On Saturday August 10th, 2024 I went into the downtown SLC location to get a burned out headlight replaced. Juan was the man I dealt with and he was great. They did not have the part, but he sent me to a nearby auto parts store to get it and said he would put it in if I brought it back. I came back and he put it in right away. I am very appreciative because I have to take care of this kind of business on Saturdays as it's nearly impossible during the week with my work schedule and more and more auto repair shops are open M-F only. The staff was responsive. They inspected the car and came up with a long list of items that needed work. But the overall cost was not justified based on the value of the car so they separated out and performed work on only the safety items. I appreciated that they applied no pressure and isolated the work to the minimum that needed to be done. Then they did the work quickly and it appears they did it well. read more

I'm satisfied with their service and reasonable price. Went there at the time they open the business. I needed them to make a quick diagnosis of my car within 10 mins so that I can make a decision either to wait for it to be fixed and drive to my destination or catch a bus that leaves in7ish mins and pick up my car later. They had very limited time, but the staff came back to me and said they can have it done in 45 mins. Hurray. Brought in my vehicle for an alternator replacement. They took several days to do this, and claimed it was working great and that they had driven it for somewhere around an hour to make sure it was good to go. This was a complete lie, as when I picked up my vehicle, I noticed that the odometer was exactly the same as when I had brought it in - this was even substantiated in their own paperwork I received from them, which included the odometer reading at the time of drop-off. I did find it extremely unusual that they claimed to have driven it for so long (45-60 minutes is what I was quoted on two different occasions), as I've never had any repair shop claim to drive a vehicle to test repairs for more than maybe 10-15 minutes max. So I paid for the repairs and began driving the vehicle home, at which point my vehicle loses pretty much all power while on the road, and thankfully I was still driving in town on this point, as this could have been a very dangerous situation. So I called them back to report the issue, and they agreed to have a look at it. I had to pay for a tow truck to haul it back, and they concluded that the transmission was failing and I would have to spend an additional $3000 for repairs. After the $2000 I'd already spent with them, I was done. I wish I had listened to my gut about how odd it was that they said TWICE how they drove it around for 45-60 minutes, what a load of crap. I only thought to check the odometer to verify this once I had towed my vehicle away for repairs elsewhere. I hope this review can save someone else the grief of having to deal with these horrible liars - who the hell claims to drive a customer's vehicle around for nearly an hour to test something as simple as an alternator? Stay away, and take your business elsewhere. I'm certain I could have taken my vehicle to a dealer for repairs and probably ended up paying less. Please learn from my mistake and find an honest, reputable shop to take your vehicle to, because it is definitely NOT Master AutoTech on State Street. read more

If could leave a negative star I would. These guys d what they want to your vehicle. Funny I brought my truck in for a transfer case leak. Upon doing so. I get a call. My exhaust manifolds where both warped. Bad break caliper. And the list goes on. So long story short. I get the truck back. 2 das later I smell dif fluid. I crawl under for a look. Now this thing hasn't been touched. Still dirty, no signs of a repair. I take it back, they tell me I did not ask them to fix the out put seal. I in fact did, 2600 dollars later. Truck is in the driveway bad front dif seel. They charge for a full front end inspection. You would think they would have caught that stinky dif fluid. read more

Sam greeted me upon arrival just as he opened the doors on Friday. Sam mentioned they couldn't take a look at the car for a few hours. Unfortunately my schedule didn't align at that time and he offered to take a look later in the day. I came back mid afternoon and true to his word the team got a chance to examine the car and found the issue. Sam quoted me a fair price and said they could finish the 3 different issues with the exhaust. We were able to come back after hours and pick up the car. I was referred to Master Muffler by multiple people and I was not disappointed! Customer service is key and in correlation, so is communication. I was assisted by John who kept me informed every step of the way in terms of estimates, what they'll be doing and when my car was available for pickup. Everyone there is highly professional and even the simplest greeting when walking in is something I notice. I don't give 5 stars often but what won me over was their honesty. On their website they have a few specials and coupons which one of them is for half off brake pad replacements; exactly what I needed. Before I could mention the special, John informed me that he going to apply the special to my tab which shows honesty! As most of us are aware, these types of establishments also charge up the ass for maintenance and they won't acknowledge a special unless notified but John was so helpful and was one step ahead. This may seem underrated, but it's not to go unnoticed when you are a paying customer so the fact that he brought this to my attention had me pleasantly surprised. When my car was ready for pick up John called and left a message and stated store hours which shows he paid attention to my concerns of being stuck in the office and needed a reminder call in case I lose track of time. The service I experienced was superb and I recommend anyone to Master Muffler. If I need any services provided by MM, I will definitely consider these guys over their competitors :) read more

I dont have personal experience here because I perform my own maintanence. But if you're looking for a quick oil change without the upsale bull$h1t, stay away. Here's why! My brother has come here a few times a year for oil changes. Last week he called me for my opinion while he was there because they're recommending a full front brake rebuild for $590! Includes new pads, rotors, and rebuilt calipers + labor. I asked him if his brakes worked properly, he said yes. I told him to decline the service and bring his truck over so I can check his brakes out (ex-dealership technician, now a knowledgeable enthusiast) I lifted up his front end, removed the tires, and sure enough, there was NOTHING wrong with his brakes. Pads have more than 50% life, rotors weren't warped and the calipers weren't seized or leaking, SO WHY REPLACE? As an ex-technician myself, I know you have to push sales to make money in this business to get paid, but that is just outrageous. For sh1ts and giggles, I then jumped on rockauto and got a price for HIGH QUALITY Raybestos pads, rotors and calipers, total came out to a hair over $100! $490 labor?? LMAO Always get a second opinion! read more

The manager, Brent, is an honest mechanic with over 28 years of experience under his belt. Wow, oh wow in all the very best ways! I went in yesterday pretty anxious about the state of my rattling muffler. I thought I could be a prime target for getting scammed - out of state plates, a woman who doesn't know much about cars etc. I was greeted promptly and politely in a nice waiting/front desk area. They took my car in quickly and it wasn't long before it was out in the parking area. I jumped to the conclusion that it meant dreadful news with a big estimate for a part that needed to be ordered, but no, my car was all done! The man told me, (I think I have this right) they "tap" welded the heat shield on my muffler. The rattle was gone! AND HE SAID THAT THERE WAS NO CHARGE!!! He said that they do more than muffler service such as oil changes and other repairs. I don't live in the state but I come here multiple times a year to visit adult children. If I need something while here this is where I'll go and my kids said their families will go there too! I recommend them so highly and happily! read more

Brent, John and their staff here are incredible. They have replaced my brakes and completely replaced my A/C hoses & fan. Each time, they have always completed the repairs faster than they estimated and a few hundred dollars cheaper than I was quoted other places. My A/C broke again about a month after they replaced it. They got me in on a Saturday (right before they were closing) to see what went wrong, special ordered and overnighted a part they needed, and fixed it Monday morning free of charge. I was driving a rental car in which the "Maintenance Required" light had gone on, and the mileage listed on the sticker from the previous oil change (not done here) indicated that the car was (apparently) very overdue for an oil change. As I was driving from California and still needed to get to Denver from SLC, I couldn't exactly go back to the rental agency and demand an oil change, so I stopped here based on the reviews I found on Yelp. Anyway, long story short--the guy who inspected the car said the oil looked pretty clean and I didn't actually need a change. He also reset the "maintenance required" light for me and assured me that I would be fine for the rest of my trip. Never go to this location ever! I've had great experience with this location in the past most employees were not there the last time I came in so I took a chance and had some work done on my Tundra WAS I WRONG! First off I had my "3 " cat back exhaust done had to bring that back because the tech that did that went from the resonator back with a lot of down size sleeves to make it work. Then I should have learned had them put in a rack and pinnon and some new shocks on 9 hours later they were installed but the shocks were put in upside down and on the wrong setting so three trips later I thought they were right!? Not so much now I'm having a different shop fix what they can't do the first or three times the charm my new shock mount plates and springs are broken! So trying to contact them this DAVE tells me I have to have it towed down to them to have the item's looked at and they will tell if it's a install or product issue! Not only is all this a waste of my time but these guys claim to be pro's but if this I what you get that is very sad for anyone who goes here! I wish I had all these specialty tools to myself which I could. All of that plus the fact every time I have to clean the inside of the Tundra because they just seem to cover the whole interior with grease and just the lack of care all around for the customer! If I do have any issues stay away for the south salt lake store as well as the murray locations that's were DAVE'S from! A good smoke and mirrors business! read more
