Working in the area and stopped for breakfast. This is my third breakfast order and let's just say it's a nice place to order food. Today, I opted for the pancake breakfast. Three pancakes (nothing smaller but okay. I can eat off this all day), smoked sausage and eggs. Grand total came to $6.65. Not bad. The drive through service was professional, alert and helpful. There was a little wait only because of the larger order ahead of me. The ambiance is pleasant and clean both in the drive through-outside and inside of the building. Back to the order, the smoked sausage was cook perfectly and the eggs were well seasoned, you don't need to add anything. For the pancakes, I'm unsure if it's fresh batter made or frozen but it doesn't give you the other "drive through" taste pancakes but I was kinda looking for a more homey fuller pancake but these are still okay. Since I'm working in the area, I know I'll work my way through the menu choices. read more

Service is great, and the ambiance is wonderful. But I would be pressed to get a $15 8" roast beef so SLOPPY. It was more like manda slices from a crock pot falling apart. In Louisiana when it's so sloppy you can't even eat the ham without losing 1/2 the sandwich (ham & roast beef) we always called it "open face" roast beef. Unfortunately my previous review of this place no longer stands correct. They still have horrible hours but all the good things have gone. The staff is no longer friendly, but rather act as if it's a chore to interact with you. The onion rings, once my favorite item here, are now cut so thin that all you can taste is batter and grease. Is there even onion in them any more? Burgers are awful premade patties. The poboys once had proper airy poboy bread but now it's a terrible dense sub loaf.The meatball poboy used to be a favorite but now it's disgusting premade meatballs. This place completely sold out and went cheap on everything. I hate to say it but what used to be my favorite place to eat in Amite is now trash and I can't recommend anybody eating here. You can not beat the customer service that you receive at Mater Chef. You get that personal attention with the friendly smiling face. The food is not too bad either. Love their lunch specials and salad bar. If you are ever going through the town of Amite, stop and grab some breakfast or lunch. It's not a 5-star restaurant but the service you will receive will make up for that. read more

In a nut shell: Go for breakfast but find an alternate for dinner. We were in town for work during the flood. I am an avid YELPer so I trusted it to get me places. The first visit was for dinner. I got the catfish and my roomy got the fried chicken. (There is a Popeye's up the street). Our fist problem was our fault. We had gotten it to go, and that is never good for catfish, live and learn. I didn't downgrade for the sogginess. The service was fast and friendly. We got back with our order and here is the outcome. Fried pickles were A-OK and the ranch was homemade you can tell. Both the chicken and the catfish were not seasoned at all really. It is a rookie mistake to not season the dredge. Maybe that's how they do it there, but we were expecting more. We returned for Breakfast on two separate occasions because the meal was cheap and good. My Roomy got the combo of grits, hash browns, eggs, biscuit and bacon and it was enough to choke a horse for $3.99. Not sure how they do it, but they do. The bacon was actually tasty and not the nasty cheap kind you may find at other inexpensive meal places. I got the breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg and cheese. It was good as well. read more

I ordered a honey butter chicken biscuit, the breakfast burrito, and a hash brown. They didn't give me my hash brown even though I paid for it. The burrito was basically open not rolled up stuffed in the aluminum foil. It was a big mess of very cheap pre-cooked bacon and tasteless fake eggs. The honey butter chicken biscuit and a honey butter and would have choked anyone it was so dry. The only "negative" I can say about Master Chef is that I wish they had longer hours!! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all great. I like master chef the food is always good when I go . They always have a line and breakfast is a good price, I only ever go in the drive thru though. They don't have great hours being that they close at 2:00 everyday except Friday I think. Lunch prices are a bit higher and sweet tea is wayyyyyy to sweet! But again lunch food is good, I get the tenders mostly they are well seasoned and not dry at all. Staff is friendly but sometime you get a bitter person but 90% time I have had friendly encounters but like I said I just do their drive through. I definitely recommend this restaurant. We stopped by this little place on our way home to Baton Rouge from visiting family in Mississippi. It was right off the interstate and easy to find. We weren't sure they'd be open as today is MLK Day but to our surprise they were. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. The grits were buttery and the biscuits tasted homemade. The coffee was hot and fresh and fountain drinks were ice cold. Best breakfast we've had and only spent $13.00. My mother and I decided to eat here since we were in Amite. Bad decision! We ordered 2 catfish poboys, onion rings, and drinks. The bread was hard as a rock. The catfish tasted old and was very hard. Couldn't even taste the catfish. The meal cost $28 for complete garbage. I caught them at 1:30 for this to-go order. I'm learning a lesson really fast with fast food. Eat there so when something is wrong, you can get your money back. The restaurant was already closed by the time I realized I got this garbage. Harsh?
