This place was so good! Hot, fast and delicious. Way better than their next door neighbor. Cash only.

Decided to try this place out. I heard it's better than middendorfs and it's right next door. My boyfriend got the swamp burger which is a burger with roast, gravy, and cheese on it. It was perfectly seasoned, not too juicy and messy. Very tasty. The fries were just okay. I got the shrimp and catfish combo. There was a lot of food for my buck. The seafood was fresh but I wish there was more seasoning in the batter. A little Tony's would have definitely taken this up several levels. The catfish was thin and airy. They also were cash only which is always a little disappointing in this day and age.

I love the location over the water! Once I got in there was no waiter present, so I seated myself. There were only 3 active tables with guest with ONE waiter. After 15 mins she came and got my order and brought me some water. Well once I got my food 30 mins later, my appetizer was cold, complete cold! I only have maybe an half hour before I get back to work so I just kept the dish. The batter on the tomatoes were very bland! Like it didn't taste like anything. The shrimp were very dry as well. Once I got my grilled shrimp plate, I thought I was in for a treat but .... I was wrong! The plate was extremely hot so I'm preeeeettttyy sure they nuked the dish before bringing it to me because my food was like warm. The BEST thing I had out of my 2 dishes were the Hushpuppies, if they would season their batter like the hushpuppies this place would be jumping!!!! As always let's take the time and apply some more love in the kitten crew. Happy Yelping.

We went on a Friday night, and's it was a nice crowd but not too busy. We got sat immediately and ordered a bowl of gumbo, shrimp remoulade and crawfish bread - all which were great. My partner was ALL into the crawfish bread and devoured all but one piece. The one piece I did have was very good. For an entree we're shared the fried seafood platter with fries and it was really good. We got four nice fish fillets and shrimp- we opted out of the fried oysters. Everything was prepared nicely and seasoned well. Our server was very friendly and attentive. If ever we are in the area again, we would return.

3 Stars - Disappointing Experience with a Few Bright Spots…read more Three of us dined at Spahr's Seafood in early October 2025, and overall, we were not very impressed. First of all, the server may have been new, but she should have known not to offer items that obviously come at an additional cost without telling the patrons. We ordered crab cakes ($13), and she asked if we'd like the crawfish sauce to go with it. We said yes, not realizing it was a $6 extra charge. That kind of surprise fee doesn't sit well. The oyster po' boy ($24) was another letdown. It came served with tartar sauce, which is not traditional in Louisiana, and it really distracted from the authentic New Orleans flavor we were expecting. The bowl of gumbo ($10) and fried green tomatoes were decent but nothing memorable. The potato salad with entrée ($10) was just okay. With tax, the bill came to $75.65 for the three of us, which didn't feel like a great value given the quality. The one highlight of the meal was the bottomless sweet tea ($3), which was brewed perfectly and genuinely refreshing. Unfortunately, that was the high point of the evening. In short, this place has potential, but between the unexpected charges, the lack of authenticity in some dishes, and the overall food quality, I can only give it 3 stars.

But no dance floor and no outdoor seating. Well, anyway, we looked over the menu and decided to try the buffet. There was some good stuff there, and some mediocre. Apparently, the locals love it. They were coming in pretty thick by the time we left. Lots of fried seafood options (including alligator, soft shell crab, and frog legs), boiled shrimp, baked catfish, flounder, and a lot of other meat options. You don't see sauce piquant very often, so I had to try the deer sauce piquant from the buffet. It had good flavor, but not much "piquant." Had to add a little Crystal hot sauce. And the meat was tough and chewy. Needed a few more hours in the pot. The flounder was very good. Best thing I tried. The "Cajun style pork" was good, too - chunks of pork and smoky andouille with pineapple and oranges. Very good. The frog legs, fried shrimp, boiled shrimp, and alligator were all good, too. The fried catfish was muddy and dirty tasting (hate when that happens). If you're hungry, this is a nice place to get your fill of south Louisiana specialties - I could make an entire meal of the frog legs and Cajun style pork.

The catfish po-boys are the real deal -- actual catfish, perfectly seasoned, fried right, and served on real New Orleans French bread, not that grocery-store knockoff so many places try to pass off. Every bite tastes like someone in the kitchen actually cares. The boiled seafood is consistently spot-on, which tells you everything you need to know about the kitchen. Anyone who's ever peeled an over-soaked shrimp knows how unforgiving boiling seafood is -- timing matters. And they nail it every time. Shrimp peel clean, seasoning penetrates without overpowering, and nothing is waterlogged or mushy. This is a place that understands: Ingredients matter Technique matters Consistency matters No shortcuts. No gimmicks. Just well-executed Louisiana food done the right way.
