Gino does it again!. I had a plumbing job that wasn't completed correctly. The promise was that it was a temporary fix, however upon seeing what was done, my wife announced that "THAT MAN" (my plumber) was never to come into our house again. When the little woman calls you "THAT MAN (or that woman)" you are out. So, I had to replace my go-to plumber. Luckily, Gino was able to come to the rescue. We had Gene and his guys come in for some misc repairs, including retiling and regrouting in our master bath. We were also going to have them install a new shower door for us but we found a good deal around the holidays somewhere else and Gene kindly refunded us the amount he quoted us in the contract. They definitely do not try to swindle extra $$ out of you like other contractors might. We were very pleased with the work they did (not to mention they showed up on time)...and the amount charged was reasonable. I serve on the condo board of a 35 unit Chicago building. We recently had a City of Chicago Building Inspector tour our building and subsequently were written up for several minor code violations. We needed carpentry work, painting, staining and welding work done. I found Master Handymen on Yelp and setup my estimate with Gene through their professional website (quick and easy). Gene sent Radu to my building to scope out the project(s) and provide an accurate estimate. Radu was prompt, professional, friendly, good listener and took detailed notes / pictures. Master Handymen saved us a lot of headaches when we had to deal with an electrical issue during a washing machine problem. The "name-brand place" that did the original installation decided they wouldn't do the uninstall of a hard-wired dryer connection needed to remove it to fix our washer. Master Handymen turned around a quick and very fair quote to put in an outlet and plug set up. Also, they were very patient answering my questions about voltages and breakers--something which I knew very little about and know more now. Finally, the guys showed up, were very friendly and did the work much faster and efficiently than I thought would be needed. I give 5 stars for a professional and reasonably priced job. I have provided details of the various projects they have done for me below. On a high level, these guys are: Reasonably priced Do quality work Show professionalism and honesty Are hard-working. Plumbing--These guys know what they are doing. They installed hot and cold risers through 4 stories, covering 3 condominium units. This was no small job, they were efficient and used quality parts. Drywall--They repaired drywall where they had to cut into the wall in order to install the risers (see above). When finished, it is unoticeable that a approximately 20 square feet of drywall was removed and replaced in each of the 4 stories. Paint--They painted the walls that were removed as well as other walls/ceilings. They were fast and the painting was very reasonably priced. Self-leveling contrete--They poured self-leveling concrete in my basement to flatten out some of the larger dips. Once again they were fast and reasonably priced. As an aside, I have been through multiple plumbers looking for one that will show up on time and not charge me an arm and a leg. Thank god I finally found one. I am hesitant to leave a review for fear they will be too busy in the future for other projects I have in mind. But people should know that there are honest, hardworking contractors out there, and Gene and his crew are one of them. just had these guys come out to do some minor work in my kitchen/ bathroom. Omar + assistant were very friendly and more or less professional. the cost wasn't too bad (they actually charged me less than the estimate, which is awesome), but then again, the work wasn't terribly complex, either. i'm going 4 stars because this is not a very formal business - i didn't get very swift responses either by email or phone. the responses were not very informative, which made me feel like i was really going out on a limb (but for the solid reviews here, i never would have used them). for instance, when i described the work and asked for an estimate, Gino responded back with "what's your address." he just wanted to send the guys w/o giving me an idea of cost. and, they were supposed to call me on their way over, but they just showed up instead - lucky i was home. still, as everyone else notes, they are prompt and seem to do good work at an honest price. the lack of formality probably has a lot to do with that. downside i guess is that you're not going to get a lot of details upfront, but i don't think they'll screw you. i'd say for small stuff definitely use them. bigger projects....not sure yet. read more

Gino responded quickly and unlike other places I also inquired to, he told me it'd be much cheaper to take my screen to a local shop. my wife and i bought our first home in april of 2010. we had stars in our eyes and big aspirations on renovating it to fit our vision, but just as we were closing on it my wife lost her job and we found out we were expecting our first child. losing half of our income kind of put a damper on how much work we could have done on the house. after going into full on handyman mode (i'm really not much of a handyman, thank goodness for my father and father in law and their help) we managed to get most of the work done on our own. after several DIY projects, including removing the carpet and carpet tacks from the 1st floor and installing a hardwood floor on the 2nd floor, we were exhausted and just wanted to move in already. much to our surprise, the red oak floor under the carpet wasn't in as good of shape as we hoped and we didn't feel we could finish it ourselves without it looking terrible. enter gino and master handymen. we were on a shoestring budget and really didn't think we could get a good deal on the hardwood floor finish and moulding installation. a call to gino and one surprisingly affordable estimate later, and we were set. his crew came in right on time and a day later, we had gorgeous finished hardwood floors and totally flush moulding. for the amount of work completed at the price we were given, i would go with them again in a heartbeat. Gino and his team were great to work with. We started the process with an estimate that was handled in a timely and professional manner. The price was fair. They were able to work around our schedules and get the work started right away. While working to remove an old medicine cabinet/light fixture, our sink basin was broken. Without discussion, they went out and purchased and installed a new one. After the work was supposedly complete, we noticed that the touch up work in one of the bathrooms was messy and incomplete. I needed some work at my condo in the South Loop and wanted to have this done today or tomorrow. Gino, the owner, called me within 10 min of my posting and luckily he had a cancellation and sent Omar over with his helper, Rodrigo within an hour! I had them install a kitchen faucet, install a 30 x 36" over the toilet area, adjust a loose shower handle and repair a toe kick on the bathroom vanity. I did have all of the items already here for him that saved a lot of time. They did the work in 2 hours and did a great job to boot !! Everything went smoothly and they kept the area very clean and checked for any leaks. They also did applied some silicone around some leaky grout areas on the kitchen counter for me as well. They charge $250 for the first 2 hours and $45 per 30 min after that. They were efficient, friendly and honest. I would definitely use them again !! read more

From quote to sign-off, these guys were awesome. I had them do a complete remodel of my bathroom and upstairs. In all, they gutted my bathroom, fixed subflooring, took out 2 walls, installed and stained a stairway bannister and many other tasks I added on as we moved throughout the process. I recently used Master Handyman for several home imp. projects (paint/caulk, repair dry wall) that I have put off for years. I was very satisfied and their price was reasonable. I had them come out to quote, and they were ready to fit me in the next week. Gino sent Santiago to do the work and he was very honest and made sure I was 100% happy before leaving. In fact, in one of the areas that were painted, they did exactly what they had been asked, but when the light hit it I wasn't happy...so they did extra to make it match correctly, without charging me a thing!! The bathroom included taking out the bathtub and replacing it with a stall shower--the kitchen involved new cabinets and granite counter tops, & wood floors. The crew was very professional and they tried very hard to please. They even did extras that weren't contracted for. When a pipe broke in our basement on a Saturday evening he was the first person we called. Two hours later our pipes were completely fixed with a new shutoff to prevent future freezing, all for a reasonable price considering the circumstances.
