I had a sudden grinding sound going on my underneath my Jeep Commander. I thought it might be a…read moreloose break caliper or worse from hitting potholes. I took it right up to a well known local tire and auto chain because they were close and I figured they could at least diagnose the problem. I left it with them and they called back the next day and said they'd have to send it to their "transmission specialist". I later found out their transmission specialist was another well know local transmission chain that they took it to. The next day I called and they told me it was a bad transfer case that went bad because the tread on my tires from from to back was not matching so I'd need new tires in addition to new struts etc. all totaling over $6000. There was so much I wanted to say but unfortunately didn't. I should have asked them if they felt it was ethical to try and get $6000 in repairs on a 2007 Jeep with over 150,000 miles on it. Its worth less than half that. Instead I said, "none of that is going to happen. I'm coming to get my car." I gave them $100 diagnostic fee and left and took it straight to EM Transmission because I had read good reviews and they were fairly close. This was a Friday night and Eric told me he wouldn't be able to do anything till Monday which I said was fine. I also told him what had happened and what the other repair shop told me. I said, "look, I know I could probably use a new struts and the tires aren't brand new but I have replaced them not that long ago and so basically I would like to fix the grinding that's happening if it's reasonable because at this point I'd like to get maybe another year out of it before I sold it because it's paid off and it's nice to not have a payment." Eric said he'd let me know what he found. Later that night, remember this is a Friday night Eric called me and said he did have a chance to drive it and check it out and that he saw that there was a brake ABS warning light on the dash among other service lights that were on as well. He said he had a thought and would let me know Monday what he found out. He call me back Monday as promised and informed me that I had a bad sensor on one of my brakes that was causing the transfer case the problem that was causing the grinding. He fixed the sensor which costed me $150 and I was out the door. Out the door after thanked him and promised him an amazing review. There are some honest, real mechanics still around like Eric if you do some digging. This was over a week ago and it's been running perfect. THANKS AGAIN!

No matter how good you think they are, there is always that feeling in the back of your mind that the mechanic is going to overcharge you, not do the work right or break something else. This is NOT the case with AAMCO on 72nd. I originally took my truck to them because a "friend" referred me to a "friend" who basically took my money and my transmission was worse than it was from the start. I took it to AAMCO because I could walk there and they are a transmission shop. They repaired my truck as promised and because I did not have enough, they held my car without charging me storage until I could pay fo the repair, it was $1,600. That was a few months ago. Fast forward to last week my truck started missing and later in the day when I went to start it, it cranked but didn't turn over. I know a thing or two about cars and I figured it had to be the fuel pump. So I had it towed to AAMCO, I spoke with Doug and told him what it was doing and what I thought it could be, he said he'd take a look at it. Doug called me Tuesday and said it was the fuel pump and the modulator and because the job requires that the gas tank be taken off, with parts and labor the repair would cost about $1,000. I was soo incredibly bummed, I just spent $1,600 a couple of months ago and now this. I told Doug it might take me a couple of paydays to pay it off, he said that was fine and he would go ahead and fix it and I can just pay him as I can. Now today, Doug calls and tells me that while taking the truck apart, he did some more tests and looked a few things and asked me if I'd recently been in an accident. I said no, but I did notice last week that my rear bumper seemed to be angled lower that it usually is. Anyway, apparently, there is some switch that triggers when you get hit from behind that kills the fuel flow, and the switch had been triggered. As a result, the repair would cost about $360 instead of the $1,000 he originally quoted. AAMCO has to be THE MOST honest repair on the entire planet. So many other shops would have done 1 of 2 things, gone on and replaced the fuel pump and modulator even though I didn't need it, or say they replaced it and still charged me the original amount I agreed to. Tell your cousin an 'nem and mama an 'nem that the next time they need fixin on their car, see Doug at AAMCO, he will completely do you right and Patty who answers the phone is really nice too.

I'd already been to a couple other places including dealerships - with each telling me my transmission was the problem and needed it rebuilt at the very least (costing between $4-6,000!!) I initially went to Car Tech but each time, the lights were not flashing where the diagnostic machine would be able to detect it. In the meantime, my car began having issues with starting. Took it to Car Tech, and it was the starter. While Shannon was fixing that, he also discovered the solenoid was also going bad. He fixed that at a fraction of the cost other shops quoted. Then I had a few other issues pop up and once again, Shannon fixed those quickly and didn't rake me over the coals with charges on doing it. Within a few weeks of having the Starter done, my car began not wanting to start again. Shannon stands behind his work. He told me to bring it back in. It wasn't the Starter. He spent the day, running all the electrical lines and discovered my wiring harness had been tampered with (maybe one of the other shops I had taken it to?? It clearly wasn't done by any animal). A new one was gonna run over $1000. Didn't make sense to do for me car and to be honest I just didn't have that kind of money. Shannon had Brandi (the other mechanic) find that part used and it was installed on my 2013 Impala. Ended up being what was actually causing the initial issue with my car to begin with -- the one that everyone else was wanting to charge me over $4k to put in a rebuilt transmission!! Obviously not needed!! Shannon saved me a crap ton of money that I just didn't have and fixed what was truly wrong with my car and didn't over charge me for it!! My car has been running like it did 8yr ago when I bought it!! Shannon does amazing work, turned his love for working on cars into a successful business that actually HELPS people while doing it!!! I bought a car at a buy Pay here about two weeks ago. It needed an oil change so I went to Jiffy…read moreLube against my cousin's advice. She said she goes to grease monkey, but I went to Jiffy Lube because they were closer to my home. I really really really wish I would've went to grease monkey. Half of the things I needed I didn't get at Jiffy Lube because the price was already 125 just for the oil change alone. But I needed an air filter and one of my headlights was out. It would've been an additional 70+ dollars for the air filter and the headlight in addition to the 125 I paid for the oil change. Had I gone to grease monkey not only would I have saved on the oil change, but I would've gotten my headlight done for free. That's what happened today. The headlight itself cost five dollars at Walmart and when I got to grease monkey since I had the part myself, they literally changed my headlight for free. I haven't been able to drive after dark for two weeks, but they have taken a huge relief off my shoulders. Not only that they topped off my fluids and zip tied my bumper which was falling down in one area. Again, all for free. I really really really wish I would've went to them sooner because Alex, who is amazing for an 18-year-old, and Cadence were super friendly and very informative. Actually, everyone was but I wouldn't have been able to remember all of their names lol but I specifically wanted to shout out Alex and Cadence.
