Thankfully, they were able to move some stuff around and make it work for us on our second day in town so we could enjoy the snow ride, which was high on our list as a bunch of Southern California girls who never see the snow. We arrived all bundled up but the blankets in the sleigh were much appreciated as well. We had the best time and spent over two hours checking everything out. It is the coolest place for all ages. If you like the Wild West then you are really going to enjoy this. So many buildings and artifacts to check out. Such a great way to learn the history of Leadville. The associates were very friendly. There was even an associate that walked around outside in case you had any questions. There are scavenger sheets for the kids. There's even a video that you can watch in one of the buildings. Make sure to climb around on the caboose and train engine. Are you tired but haven't got to see everything yet? Your ticket allows you to leave and come back during the same day. It is located in central Colorado between Red Cliff and Leadville in the Eagle River Valley at an elevation of 9,238 feet. it was named for General Irving Hale. Onslow S. Rolfe, was selected to command Camp Hale. Soldiers were trained in mountain climbing, and skiing, cold-weather. About 15,000 soldiers were trained here. This is a self-guided driving tour with 10 stops that take you in a loop around Camp Hale. Each stop has an interpretive sign with history of that area. There is a larger interpretive site just off Highway 24 marked by stone pillars at the main entrance to Camp Hale about 17 miles south of the intersection of I-70 and Hwy 24. Must stop to visit if you are near by. Note: I could not check in on Yelp but to poor cell service.

She did have an iPad with a supposed picture of a ghost that she shared, but even the kids in our group could identify it as a bad photoshop. All in all, we felt it was false advertising regarding the content of the tour and the presentation was not that entertaining.

This was my second experience and it did not disappoint. The views out the train windows are spectacular as your train winds around the mountain and you get to see a waterfall and the river rushing by! Cowboys and ladies are all dressed up to give you an experience that you'll remember for a long time! There is free parking that it can get crowded so get there at least 30 minutes early maybe more and buy your ticket ahead of time as they sometimes sell out day of.

Tickets are around $35 per person, only a few bucks off for my man under two which felt like a cash grab, but what are you gonna do? If you're visiting from a place where there aren't mountains, this will blow you away. But even for us locals here, the views are pretty stunning! Some are lackluster depending on which side you're seated on, you might be directly up against rocks, haha. But when it opens up, wow, just wow! PRO TIP: even if you have your QR code ticket, you MUST go inside to receive your physical paper tickets. They will not let you on the train otherwise! The novelty is there and as much as I appreciate it, I think maybe it's time to arrive in 2026. Worth the price of admission, in my opinion. Far from perfect and at times a little kitschy, but if you go with a positive attitude you'll see some spectacular views of our beautiful state!
