From the second we met the german shepherd, this place could do no wrong in our dog loving eyes. When the pup joined our group photo, we couldn't have been happier. We got off to a bumpy start here as there was a mechanical issue the day prior that canceled our initial reservation. Thankfully, they were able to move some stuff around and make it work for us on our second day in town so we could enjoy the snow ride, which was high on our list as a bunch of Southern California girls who never see the snow. We arrived all bundled up but the blankets in the sleigh were much appreciated as well. Have you ever heard of extreme sledding? Neither have I! At least not up until our visit to Country Boy Mine. We stumbled across this activity because our group wanted to do a snow activity that wasn't as taxing on the body as snowboarding or skiing. For some people in our group this was their favorite activity we did over snowmobiling and snowtubing. In short, extreme sledding is where you lay stomach first on a sled and use your hands to steer as you're going down a slope. It requires effort from your entire body because your lower half is pressing down and in on the sled to keep it stable while your upper half is steering. If you're not careful then you can easily tumble over, but you're only a few inches off the ground so the fall is nothing serious. You start off going as many rounds as you'd like on the practice slope and then you can take the ride up to the main slope which is over 1/2 mile long and traverse that three times. The main slope is pretty steep so you're able to reach a fast velocity on the way down. My friends and I had fun racing each other. After sledding we explored the little museum building on site, watched others attempt to pan for gold in the little body of water, and played around in the fluffy snow. I hope this place gets more attention because extreme sledding is so fun! read more

So much fun! We did the snowshoe adventure and sleigh ride here. The sleigh ride is a sleigh pulled by a truck fitted with snow treads. The snowshoe adventure is like an escape room but outdoors. Both were lots of fun and my family had a blast. After the sleigh ride we were handed a stick and a bag of graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows to sit and make s'mores at the fire pit. Wow!!! This experience was really cool... Not in the sense that it blows you away.. but in the personal touches that the staff give you! Our family enjoyed our time here so much that we came here twice! On our last free day of vacation in the Breck area, we all agreed to go back up and hang with these guys... do some panning for gold, sledding, and just generally loving the view. Our guide Michael was the best!!! He made our trip and clearly loves his job! We also had the opportunity to meet the owner and take a ride in their new mountain off-road/snow climber. They're future plans for the site are increcible! You MUST make this a part of your trip to the area. We LOVED the experience!!!! The gold mining is unbelievable and very real! Swirl the dirt, grab some gold. That easy! Touring the mine is also very cool and with Michael's knowledge, even better. Bring your kiddos as they will LOVE this place! Have you done it all? All Zip-lined out? Need a change of scenery from the slopes? This was such a fun way to try something new! We skied and snow mobiled but wanted to add another adventurous element to our Breckenridge trip and thankfully found extreme sledding the week before our getaway. First and foremost - the team!!! These are a great group of guys with the warmest and most welcoming energy! They truly love what they do and are eager to make guests/tourists happy during their visit. Each team member we encountered had such enthusiasm about the mining property, the insanely cool cars transformed into snow cats, the donkeys on-site and the history of the area. Our guide offered to take some very cool photos of us up on the hill and even walked down the hill to video us mid-sledding! The extreme sledding itself was pure joy - I laughed and screamed (out of fun, not fear) each ride down. You get introduced to the sleds on their practice track before going down the bigger run. I was surprised at how easy the sleds were to maneuver! Really nice to feel so in control unlike a lot of other snow sports/activities - plus you can always use your feet to slow down! They did a good job creating the run as it's not too scary for the cautious yet still provides a great thrill for adrenaline junkies. Being towed up on a massive sled trailer was a perk in itself and the views alone are worth a visit. I especially loved the close proximity to town because it made fitting the experience into our trip easy and convenient! We had to leave promptly for dinner reservations so my only advice is to leave yourself a cushion so you can experience the property for all it has to offer! read more

My family decided to do the mine tour & panning while in town recently, and we loved it. Our guide, Nicole, was great. She was friendly and knowledgeable. Our group had kids and adults and she was great at engaging everyone. It was really cool seeing the inside of the mining area and the amount of water flow coming through. Afterwards, we panned for gold, which was probably our favorite part. We planned inside, and sat by the fire to warm up our hands when needed. I would recommend buying a small vial from the front desk area before the tour, that way it's ready when you start panning. I have a little vial with fools gold, calcite, quartz, and I even found a piece of amethyst. read more

A great mix of knowledge, jokes and kid friendly fun. The kids got some hands on fun inside the mine It's pretty cold in there so maybe bring a sweater etc.. Coming from the east coast, seeing caves and mines over there. This was on our to do list, we got a mine tour with Nicole. She was very informative and friendly, broke down every detail that there could have been. Talked about the history of the mine, the minerals, the tools, down to the natural life thriving on the walls. I was very impressed and I will definitely come back for another visit in the future, make sure to say Hi to Goldie. She's a miniature Jerusalem donkey, they have plans on getting her some play mates. Joe the mine mechanic was super friendly and talked about Donkeys and Mules, the potential for this place is through the roof.. I guess there was a show that use to operate that I hope they bring back, it talked about old timey doctors and morticians. They have gold panning, axe throwing, escape room, sledding, picnic area and a very fast slide that helps with a quick trip back to the parking lot. Ever want to know a little bit about a miners work day? Book a tour at Country Boy Mine! After check-in, we were introduced to our guide, Miner John. We were first given a short intro and bio of our guide ,and fellow tourists. We proceeded into the mine (which is no longer an operating mine), where our guide gave us hardhats,rules, history on mining, some history on the mine itself and the daily ins and outs of a miner back in the days of operation. It was really cool to go into the mine. If you are claustrophobic,it won't be a tour for you. Temperature wise,it was cool in the mine ,but not cold enough to wear a jacket. Long sleeve shirt, and leggings sufficed for myself. After the tour, you are given the opportunity to pan for gold! They demonstrate how to pan, provide the pan, wader boots,a pipette, and a bag to put your finds! Yes! You get to keep any gold , gems,and minerals you find! They also have a treasure hunt on site, picnic tables (feel free to bring a cooler with drinks and lunch,we did!), free parking, an ore slide you can go down, some donkey friends, and LOTS of picture moments. There is a shop onsite to purchase souvenirs,tshirts ,vials to store your pan finds, snacks,and drinks. I really wanted to purchase a fleece jacket or hoodie with their business name on it, but they didn't have any at the time. Hopefully during the winter they do! I wasn't totally excited to visit a mine in general, but am so glad we did! The passion, knowledge, education, first-hand experience and even familial history that John had and brought to the tour made it worthwhile ten times over. I have a new appreciation for what miners have gone through and more education from him of the history and how it has evolved over time. I've been going to Breckenridge and Summit County for over 30 years and just discovered this place with my family. My 11 and 12 year olds rate this as one of the top experiences anywhere, and they've experienced a lot of neat things in their life. Friendly talkative staff, rustic beautiful surroundings, not at all touristy (please don't change that), and a unique experience that is well priced. The reservation system is easy and they are on time with activities. The people working here seem to actually enjoy working here which makes the experience enjoyable because they are responsible for guiding you. We had the most amazing time. First, we were 15 min late because I'm a terrible navigator. I called and they helped me get to the location. We did the treasure hunt, mine tour and a monster truck ride. Every single person we interacted with was so nice. We had an incredible time. My 7 year old was completely fascinated and they included him in everything. He loved it. And I loved it too. I would recommend this to anyone coming to Breck. Such a great time especially with kids. DO NOT do the "escape room" if you are over the age of 12. We did the whole escape room in 20 minutes. We solved everything very quickly and when we did struggle slightly we were given the answer by the instructor. It was mind numbingly easy. I've done many other escape rooms that were way better that were way cheaper. Definitely NOT worth the $40 per person. Very disappointing. read more
