He took our family pictures throughout the day to help save the memories. He drove us to our 3 hour train ride, captured pictures of us on the train, and then took us to the hot springs. The train ride is beautiful and relaxing. He then drive us to Vail for the evening to enjoy dinner and shopping before taking us back to our hotel. He made a special gift for everyone in our group and was delightful to visit with. You can tell how much he loves what he does and wants to make sure that you have a special trip.

It was the most breathtaking and adventurous rock crawling we've ever done. Jon was incredibly knowledgeable about the terrain and surroundings, teaching us a lot about the land and its history. Leadville vied against Denver for the capital of Colorado. But the historical events, strategies, travel and the shuffling for rights of control and ownership started right here at Matchless Mine. We did a guided tour and our tour guide was a bit different in his approach to the stories behind the mine and Leadville. Very intriguing the similarity of the women back than and the women of today. They were very prominent in the development of this vast area. Very interesting and grabbing how the lives of these people all entwined to deliver a booming town and it's people. I'd love to spend a little more time but the day was over.

It is about 1 1/2 miles outside downtown Leadville and I think it's over-rated. There are 2 admission prices -- $6 per person ($5 for kids) for the self-guided tour or $10 per person for a guided tour. We were too late for the last guided tour of the day and opted for the $6 self-guided tour. There are 3 or 4 buildings (2 that you can actually walk into) and about 8-10 placards with descriptions of the mining operation and about Baby Doe. One building was the cabin where Baby Doe spent the final years of her life and included some pictures and a copy of her death certificate. You really didn't learn too much about Baby Doe from the displays in the cabin - her story was better told on one of the placards. The other building you could get inside had some displays of old mining equipment and tools but - again - not a whole lot of useful information. You learned more from the signs. Other buildings included a power magazine that you could look into and a couple of non-descript and otherwise unidentified shacks. Maybe the guided tour would have provided more information but by the end of my self-guided tour, I was glad I hadn't paid the extra $4 for the guided tour.

There were 8 of us on the hour and a half ride stopping about halfway to take pictures. I appreciate that they picked horses to match the riders and their different riding levels. My wife and I visited Snow Caps Sled Dogs in the deepest part of Colorado's summer. I was…read moreimpressed that the musher new the name and personality train hats of the more than 150 dogs working here. Our tour group was pointed towards dogs who loved human attention and cautioned to be aware that some loved jumping and face kisses. The tour guide did an awesome job answering a wealth of Q's from all ages of visitors. He did a special job working with a boy, whom I suspect may be on the autism spectrum, warm to the dogs. He was initially put off by the loud barks. My overall impression is that the staff here knows and cares about the dogs here, and that the dogs love human visitors and the physical demands required of being on a sled team. A word of caution - 150 dogs produce a lot of poop and pee. Expect their waste to be smelly.
