Math was pretty much a breeze during my entire childhood and adolescent years. I was able to focus on other subjects in school, because math wasn't something I had to worry about. As an adult, I don't need a calculator for every single math problem (unlike most people these days). A huge bonus is that I can compute discounts in my head when shopping and no one can rip me off! Kumon in a nutshell: Each student works through the program at their OWN pace. Children will develop a strong foundation as they repeat the worksheets, which explain and instruct students whenever a new topic is introduced, and therefore they can work independently. "Independently" is the key here. The basic premise of Kumon is very logical. Throw age and grade out the window. Kids will progress to the next level once they have good mastery of the material, which is based on accuracy and time. Some parents initially starting their kid on Kumon may find the level that they start at too low and an insult to their child's intelligence. But do not worry! Reviewing is beneficial and will give your child a very strong foundation. Remember, students only become weak in math when they haven't mastered the fundamental material. The review phase goes quickly. The amount of time spent is insignificant in the grand scheme of things. The staff at Kumon of Flower Mound are wonderful and will help your child(ren) become successful at school and beyond. They may initially complain, but once they start mastering the material, they will want to keep coming back! Trust me!
