I had almost all of my tutoring sessions at Peninsula Academy. After moving from Shanghai to Palos…read moreVerdes about 5 years ago, I was greatly struggling with English. Then I came to Pen Academy to seek for an English tutor. JJ was the one who helped me the most with my speaking, writing, and reading skills, and he helped me to get a decent score on SAT (1500). Other tutors I have had include TJ, Joseph, and Jason who helped me with math, biology, and physics, and I had great experiences with all of them. When it comes to the time of college application, my college counselor Ji spent a lot of time with me brainstorming about the college essays. She encouraged me to be the person I want to be and express myself in my essays. Finally, all of these got me into my dream college. Learning at Peninsula Academy was a very enjoyable experience as the tutors do not only help you to achieve academic success but also care about your personal well beings.

After looking at several houses for sales, I asked my realtor to drop me off at the ice rink which is my daughter's most favorite activity. We passed by the Peninsula Academy. I told my wife this is a great place for our daughter to enrich her English. Kay Lee, the deputy director of the academy was there, she was extremely helpful and listened to me on our needs. She recommended Kathy Kerstein as my daughter's English teacher. We moved our family on July 28, 2017. It's a Friday. My daughter Yiyi started Kathy's one to one class for the whole summer and once-twice a week during the school year. Apparently, she did extremely good at her ENGLISH LEARNER'S class. She moved on with Kathy's help, she got into Stanford's summer school, UCSB Research Mentoring Program. From a Chinese speaking little girl, hardly can speak a full paragraph to a young adult commanding her English In three and half years. My daughter, applied for colleges this year, she got admitted for UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, UCSD. For private institutions, she got Harvey Mudd (finalist for President's Scholarship, she declined), Columbia University and Caltech. She accepted the offer from Caltech and will be the 2025 class of Caltech. Kathy Kerstein is a great teacher, she is always available and ready to help, I would like to thank the Academy for all the supports. Chung

My oldest (2nd grade) has been attending IvySmart PV for 3 years now (since Kindergarten), and…read morewe've been very happy with it. We've found IvySmart to be a great, reasonably-priced choice for parents who are looking for both after-school care as well as some academic instruction for their kids. Some more color for parents who are considering options: - School-pickup - an official van (w/ IvySmart logos) picks up kids every day from school and takes them to the IvySmart location. There is a modest fee for this (very reasonable), and they keep track of the numerous minimum days automatically (eg. when schools dismiss around noon) - When students first enroll, IvySmart will do some initial assessment testing to ensure the kids are placed in their optimal class. So whether your child is a bit behind and needs some additional help, or is advanced and needs additional stimulation above grade level, they can get it at IvySmart. This is also subject-specific (Eg. for Math, Language Arts, etc.) so can be quite tailored to the student - Homework: as a nice touch, IvySmart ensures the student does their homework throughout the week, and helps as needed. One less thing for parents to have to do! - Care / Teaching: We've been very happy with Miss Monet, Miss Jessica and all the teachers / leaders at the PV location. We have gotten good feedback from our 2nd-grader about the teachers and the instruction, and think they provide a good balance between caring and motivation but also enforcing good rules and discipline! Miss Monet and Miss Jessica are also very open and approachable, and we've been happy with how they've addressed the few questions / concerns we had early-on - Camps: IvySmart also runs reasonably-priced week-long camps during the school year breaks (eg. Christmas Holiday Break, Spring Break, Summer Break). This is a good backup option for families who aren't going away (and parents are still working), and otherwise aren't planning to have their child do a separate camp elsewhere (ones that last the full workday are often hard to find!) Overall, would happily recommend IvySmart to any parent who's looking for a mix of childcare / academic instruction for their child. We plan to send our youngest to IvySmart when they begin Kindergarten this coming fall.

We lasted less than 2 weeks at this place. After day 2, my youngest daughter was informing us that kids are playing tag in small confined class rooms and disrupting other kids while they are trying to learn. We advised the school and Ms. Monet of this incident and requested some feedback about this. We were advised they allow them to play tag in a confined learning center. We were a bit setback as this is not a playground and extremely unsafe for others. Moving forward a week, we get a call from Ms. Monet advising the kids were playing tag again and running in this confined space. They bumped into my youngest daughter. She fell and rolled her ankle. It was sprained severely. All we got from Ms. Monet was a sorry and we will talk to our Teachers. After the discussion, she quickly moved onto advising there is a field trip. First Field trip to Popeyes, second field trip to H-Mart. We spend about $2500.00 for this program not to go to Popeyes or H-Mart. We as parents can do this ourselves. We immediately pulled our Daughters out of this program and requested a refund. We were told they only do accounting 1 time per month. Even after all this, they were trying to sell us on the fact they can do 1 on 1 tutoring at their facility. We passed on that ridiculous offer as we do not feel their is a priority on safety and supervision from Ms. Monet and her Leadership for our Children. On top of this, waiting on the refund for 6.5 days (6.5 days because we had to pick up our injured daughter) of going this school on a 4 week program, we were only refunded $814.00. Steer clear of this place. Its unorganized and self centered on revenue.
