Triple bonus points because they have a super cute dog named Teddy that I asked to play with at the end of my meal :) All of the breakfast entrees come with Mexican coffee, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and a fresh fruit yogurt/cereal parfait. I don't think I've ever had so many freebies (that actually tasted good) come with my entree before. Based on some pictures we found online, we ordered the Cazuela Chiapas with Short Ribs (10/10 recommend- it had eggs, tasty sauce, great quality meat, tons of mushrooms, and cheese). I think it was a wife/husband duo running this place and if I ever come back to CDMX, 100% will be coming here to grab brunch again. Anyway, I got the recommended ayotl tamale (pumpkin and dried shrimp) and it was so incredibly amazing. It came wrapped in banana leaf and piping hot and when you open it, you can smell the warmth and deliciousness. I was already half way into this heaven when the server brought a tray of salsa. Tamales this good don't need any salsa but I decided to give it a try. Wow!!! I was once again blown away by the tastiness. The salsas were full of flavor, spice and they have a little kick to it. I love them. I wish I could eat more but I'm stuffed to the max. The hot chocolate is thick, grainy and definitely chocolate-y. I appreciate that they have a set of menu that's all in English. They even called to give us some instructions cause of a protest across the street at the Venezuelan embassy for easier access. Our courses were absolutely delicious. My wife and mother-in-law got the 6-course tasting menu and I went with the 9. If you like a tasting menu or want to introduce someone to the experience, Raiz does not disappoint. The amuse bouche is one of my favorites, cause I love looking at people's faces when they get such a small appetizer. I am not going to post all of the dishes here, cause part of the experience is the sensory look of the plates, but I will say the pork belly and escamole were two of my favorites. The service and explanations of each dish were spot on and the som, the lady who puts the wine pairings together was incredible with bringing out the flavors of each dish and having the wine playing off of each one. She did such a great job. The ambience is perfect. Not to loud or quite. Small spot withe high ceilings and very airy. Definitely a spot where you need a reservation in advance.
