All the people from Matrix were great to work with. They're flexible and eager to satisfy the customer in every way they know how. Basements is all they do, and they do a good job. Compared to other contractors that I know, Matrix deserves 5 stars. I gave only 4 because nobody is perfect, but they come pretty close in the world of contracting. 4.5 would be more precise. What got our attention mostly is the material they use. The walls are made with foam insulation sandwiched between two sheets of magnesium board. A basement flood won't destroy your basement, and the material is stronger than regular drywall. The drop ceiling sits straight and the floor looks great too. At first we wanted to know how much just the material would cost us, because we wanted to save money the dyi way. During the estimation process we had them price out the complete contract as well. Then we decided to save ourselves a lot of headaches by letting them do almost the whole job. I like doing the finishing work myself, such as trim and doors. That saved us a few bucks and gives me a few weekend projects. read more

I called for a estimate to see how much it would cost. The two guys who showed up seemed really competent to get measurements and a game plan going forward . I informed them the earliest I'd make a decision would be in a year. I've now received two calls from them this week alone. If they can't understand "I'll be making a decision in a year" i can only guess what the experience would've been. They wanted to charge 60K to demo and re drywall a room. No design work, my kitchen cost $70. They also made a comment about a gallon of paint costing $160. read more

What a horrible experience I've had with this company so far. I knew they were one of the most expensive options, and I was willing to pay a premium for quality service, but instead, I ended up with a higher price and lower‑level service. From the very beginning, things went wrong. They didn't get one of the room sizes correct, it was literally the size of a closet -- and then tried to blame the blueprints, even though their own measurements were wrong. Despite that, they still charged me to fix their mistake. Then, after agreeing to a $107,000 price to finish my basement (yes, they are that expensive), they had the audacity to bill me separately for the permits. Imagine agreeing to a six‑figure renovation and then being told the permits aren't included. They claimed it was "in the fine print," even though the fine print only says the home owner is responsible for the permits, however it doesn't say that the cost is separate from the total. To make matters worse, they still haven't picked up their trash (pictures below have been in my basement for the last month and a half). It's been sitting in my basement and garage, and the project has been at a standstill for four weeks with zero communication or progress. Stay far away from this company. They'll give you an incomplete project plan, then attempt to bilk you for thousands upon thousands of dollars more. I'm out over $60,000.00 and I have a less than half completed basement, which is only 400 sqaure feet. Addressed concerns with Matrix and they show zero concern, they could care less and are laughing all the way to the bank. Shameful business practice, not to be trusted. WILL NEVER USE AGAIN Writing because I've tried to reach out to Steve several times over the last few years who never responded. Hired Matrix to install a basement bathroom a few years ago - several issues to note and they never responded when I tried contacting them to come back to fix the issues. Issue #1: Failed inspection for shower pan in basement and didn't seal up the shower itself: underneath the "finished" shower we had "flooding" due to their work. They came back and "leveled" the shower pan but still had a lot of flooding coming out from under the shower afterwards. They sealed up the shower, but likely there's mold underneath due to their work. Issue #2: They "completed" the work after sealing up the shower, but then left the permit opened. I started getting notices from the city to have the permit closed and attempted to contact my project manager who never got back to me. I had to deal with the city myself and get the permit closed by stating that Matrix was no longer involved since they basically "ghosted" me. Not only did they not close the permit but they never actually cared to figure out if the work was completed or not - they basically got their money and ran. Issue #3: Started to see mold in the ceiling they installed. Again attempted to reach out to Steve with no response. I had to hire someone else to come out and remove the ceiling to get rid of the mold. Turns out the water lines they installed weren't sealed up - had different plumber (that I had to pay for) seal everything up tight. So essentially, they had negligently caused more damage and I could've avoided having spent more money on fixing their issues. They still have not responded about reimbursement or fixing the ceiling. Posting pictures to show how negligent their work was. Had to undo most of their work and to this day none of it's fixed. The quality of workmanship was quite poor for the price. I complained to the company and they sent someone to look at the work. He agreed that it was not up to their standards. I let them know I didn't want it redone and have my only bathroom out of comission for several days. What I would like was a refund. Nothing happened. I was not followed up with despite multiple calls to Lindsey. I've felt too dumb for paying $11,000 for this shoddy job to post this review. I hope this is helpful to others who are making decisions. Here are my complaints. 1) They broke my toilet during installation. I asked the man if he needed to take it out, he said that no, he was a professional and they could work in small spaces. My toilet was broken during the process of breaking up my cast iron tub for removal. 2) Some drywall and some trim came loose during installation. They filled the trim with liquid nails and left it. They did not repair the drywall that came loose, I did this myself. 3) The bathub they installed was smaller than my original tub, not a big deal. However, they filled the gap between the tile and the tub with acrylic and CAULK. It's embarassing and it's going to be so much work to get the caulk out of there. I'm just disheartened at all the extra work I need to do to undo their poor choices. 4) The tub itself is NOT LEVEL. Water pools in the corner. 5) The tub surround was ordered with a beveled edge. The man installing it asked me during installation if I wanted it to go all the way to the celing or line up with a partial wall that was aready installed. I had no idea that the answr to this question would mean that he would cut the wall pieces on site - leaving jagged edges that are not lined up. They did such a bad job. 6) They used the existing pipes which were not installed correctly in the first place. The pipes are on an angle. I expected that the pipes would be replaced and would have a 90 degree angle rather than like, 92. It just bugs me. Not awful... but annoying. 7) The drain plug was cheap and broke soon after installation. I have to use a rubber stopper. 8) The caulk overall is done poorly with lots of gaps where stuff can get stuck. 9) The walls aren't even joined properly. 10) There is a heating pipe that goes behind the bathtub. This was not noticed by the sales person. The contractor complained about this and ended up cutting the bathtub in a really unattractive way in order to make it work. This was not worth the money. I don't have a lot of money to spend on home improvements and ended up making a choice I thought was a good one based on previous reviews. The man who visited my home said that the contractor, Donny, normally does better work than this. I'm depressed about it every time I shower. I feel taken advantage of. I believe it's crucial to share these concerns publicly. Our project, a relatively small 350 sq. feet basement, was expected to be straightforward for Matrix. However, we encountered numerous problems due to poor material ordering and subpar workmanship. The project, which started on April 22nd, was delayed and completed on July 24th. Here are the key issues: 1. **Clean-Up and Debris:** I spent three hours cleaning sawdust and debris with my own equipment, including a shop-vac, broom, and Zep sweeping compound. I also had to move all wood, metal studs, and moldings from the basement to the garage for the next crew. 2. **Trash Disposal:** I personally disposed of 13 trash bags, along with drywall, insulation, and paint buckets. Matrix did not provide clean-up services, as their crew was reportedly focused on larger projects. 3. **Delays in Ordering:** There were significant delays due to Matrix's failure to order cabinets and a door on time. 4. **Carpentry Issues:** The carpenters, who were eventually replaced, caused several problems: - AC2 treated lumber was not used on concrete floors where required. I had to point this out to the field manager, who then made the necessary replacements to meet inspection standards. - The carpenters tripped circuits with their power saws, causing a power outage that affected the basement, internet, and first floor for an entire day. They did not inform me due to a language barrier (Ukrainian), and I only discovered the issue after they left. - The baseboards and crown molding were poorly installed. The carpenters used over 100 brad nails, many of which were not fully punched in, and installed cracked and chipped molding. I'm not writing this review to be rude, or to necessarily disparage someone despite more than likely being sold something fraudulently, I'm hoping that instead they change a few contractors and their practices, and I'm warning potential buyers about their possible experience. Here's a tl;dr: PROS- they do the scheduling and apply for permits. It's expensive but competitive when compared to rates for similar companies. There are decent incentives to sign up (though more on that in a bit, you might get lies depending on your salesman). The work gets done quickly and workers show up on days when scheduled, just not always clear ahead of time when they will arrive. The contractors who did flawless work were the painters, the plumbers, and the carpenter who did the doors, cabinets, and handles. CONS- Homeowner pays for permits and provides bathroom tile, fixtures, tub, toilet, etc. Field managers seem very busy managing multiple projects. Communication of specific project plans to contractors is inefficient and things get missed and messed up despite discussing said plans with the field manager on day one, so the homeowner has to make it a point to check up on the work AS they're doing it and point out issues, leading the homeowner to act as a field manager. Leads to awkward interactions between homeowners and contractors. You will also need to hound them for minor fixes. They also do not fully clean the massive amount of drywall dust they produce. Now for the full review: They rush a lot of things, like the salesman Hunter was rushing to leave after we had been approved for financing and didn't put our steam shower unit in writing (which they did end up agreeing to provide), and he lied (most likely, we were leaning toward no and he knew that), or didn't know (benefit of the doubt) and said our payments would start six months after completion. Turns out that was not the case and not something they even offer. He doesn't work there anymore and I have to wonder why. Also just as an aside he started talking about politics, his salary, and antivax rhetoric, and made racist comments about Indians so that was also wonderful (sarcasm). That's who Matrix hires. In terms of the actual construction, the contractors forget the little details (still waiting on some things to be fixed, but they think they're done with everything despite my fairly constant reminders). Matrix will tell you to get your own materials for the bathrooms, then the contractors will complain about the materials you buy, but won't tell you what exactly you should have bought. Their tile contractor Danny is especially f*cking awful. Rushed everything because he wanted to go on vacation, blamed every other contractor (drywall, framing, et cetera) and the family member HE brought to help him for the issues, and also the materials (not keeping in mind the mantra that only poor craftsman blame their tools), then when pointing out the flaws in his rush job he had the audacity to say "some people man they can't eat, other people have bigger problems man." The field manager even said "yeah I've said before Danny has to learn to keep his mouth shut." Like why are you still contracting him out then? Furthermore Danny's manager Charlie then said "I saw the picture of the tile I think it's fine," like he owns the house, didn't come out and inspect it either just saw a picture. After some back and forth which resulted in Danny coming back out to fix his mistakes, there are still more issues that need to be fixed now. Dude can't make a straight line of grout or tile to save his life. Not to mention he blew way past the typical 10% extra for waste (I actually had 15% extra purchased) and I had to buy more. If you're doing tile with them plan on 60% extra for waste. They also were supposed to cover the cost of the tile they were replacing but they didn't, they used what I had left over (the extra that I had to buy because he wasted so much), and didn't reimburse me. Don't get tile in your bathroom with Matrix. Or just don't do a bathroom. It will not be a good experience. For the price you're paying the tile work is completely unacceptable. A contractor unplugged my sump pump during a rainy two weeks and my basement flooded, ruining some pretty hard to replace items. Not one offer to compensate, just an "oh shit" from the field manager and that's it. Rico is a good field manager when he's around, but there's a constant need to hound him for little details his contractors didn't finish because he shows up for five minutes and dips out. Zero follow through. Everything not finished will stay unfinished for the open house and I will be pointing them out to potential buyers. I don't give a damn about the 1% commission. The only contractors who did flawless work were the painters, the plumbers, and the one carpenter who did the doors, cabinets, and handles. Pay them more. read more

Last fall we contracted with Matrix Home Solutions to rehab a bathroom for us. We are not satisfied customers and do not recommend them. Materials used were substandard and Matrix has been wholly unresponsive to our attempts to address these issues. I say the materials were substandard because the sink/countertop and the shower pan are prone to staining and it appears to be easy to scratch the sink/countertop. Caulking used is not paintable. A door on the vanity warped and does not close properly. I have called, sent messages and tried to reach them on line. Despite promises to call me, we have heard nothing. read more

We just replaced our old fiberglass bathtub/shower surround with a new system from Matrix. We had a wide variety of materials and components to choose from so got the items we needed and some we just wanted. Matrix kept us informed as to install dates and arrived in a timely manner. The install team was efficient, friendly, and compehensive. They consulted us along the way on items such as grab bars, etc. They put down materials to protect our floors and upon completion checked to make sure we were satisfied and cleaned up all materials and waste. We are thrilled with the results and would recommend Matrix highly. read more

Scam business. Unresponsive. We ended up putting a stop order on our down payment check. And never heard from them again.

I want to say that I'm a bit late with the review (work began in October 2022 and ended just shy of the beginning of April in 2023, though there are still issues), and I will also caveat that maybe there was a lot of things at play (and I'll give context), that may sway your opinion that I'm just disgruntled, but I hope this at least informs you a bit more before doing business with matrix. I will say the final product looks good, but I think a large part is that we had to get more involved to ensure it worked out for us. 1. Pricing. Matrix came in over 20% higher than other quotes. However, we went with them when they said they'd get (what many described as a simple basement finishing with bathroom) done in 8 weeks (what others had quoted as 12). With a pregnant wife due in 16 weeks, this was ideal. It ended up being 24 weeks however. 2. Payments. Matrix contract asks for 90% of the payment before less than 20% of the work is completed. We did not fully pay attention to this, so if you go with Matrix, I highly suggest you negotiate this point or walk away. After they have your money, there is little holding them to a standard. 3. Job Schedule. They refused till the very end to provide a complete job schedule and stick to it. Even after they provided one, they did not effectively stick to the plan and made excuses about why. Their common answer was the schedule couldn't be adhered to cause if scheduling issues with subs. That is not what I've wants to hear (that their project isn't as important as others) and really, is not our problem. They ended up taking twice as long than they agreed to (with no reimbursement to us) and the primary excuse we received from the site foreman is they had a lot of other, larger projects starting than ours. 4. Site Foreman. Our foreman was very nonchalant with keeping us informed about the work that was going on and never let us know status. We had to ask the subcontractors ourselves and find it out. We brought this up many times, but he never changed. We brought this up to his boss, but there was no change. We later found out he was going through stuff, but (not to sound heartless), I'm a military reservist who had a wife with a high rusk pregnancy, and we didn't want to be in this position a few weeks out from having our first child. In addition, he had a couple of emergency, but there was no backup plan for his absence, and they ended up forgetting to schedule work for a week while he was out. 5. Unauthorized changes. Despite an agreed to plan and explicit guidance in both the contract and verbally, changes we did not agree to we're taken (and not communicated) until it was too late. As we were against a deadline of the pregnancy, we went along with it, but we currently regret not fighting back harder and earlier. 6. Messy JobSite. In addition to working in a way that ended up getting drywall everywhere in the house, they rarely cleaned up their site. In addition, when it was known we had carpet folks (not theirs) coming in, and we reminded them they agreed to clean up the area tgat was to be worked in, they left a mess (which we cleaned up). 7. Poor hvac. I would not trust their HVAC person. Our basement HCSC worked really well and better before they made changes (which we're not part of the agreed to plan). In addition, 4 months later, one hvac area rattles. 8. Acknowledged Deficiencies. We brought up all these issues and we actually received acknowledgment that these issues were accurate and existed. However, they said the contract was binding and they had no obligation to fix these issues. In the end, if you go with matrix, I'm sure the product (if you are active) will be fine in the end, but buyer beware and I hope this helps you with your decision or your way of working with matrix. Unprofessional from start to finish. I called to get an ETA for the installers... no answer (8:00am) the rep finally called me back. She told me it was her personal phone number. But she also told me I can call that number with any questions. 2 hours later, the installers come. As soon as they come in, the older one has an attitude with me, I guess for calling asking where they were. The older one was going off on the younger the whole time. They broke my garage door knob, I cant lock it anymore. My bath is nice but I have to install my own splash guards.... read more

First of all I cancelled the home visit and they continue to harass me with texts. What really bothers me is that all their messages are directed at myself and my wife. Keep my wife out of your appointments! I cancelled because this business has these poor tactics when they call you on the phone. The remodel went from $100 off to $1000 off. MY EXPERIENCE WITH MATRIX WAS A NIGHTMARE. I highly recommend reading Brian Hagerman's review because his experience was very similar to mine and he outlines the issues in detail. Despite this project being a disaster from the beginning to the end, I wanted to give Matrix the benefit of the doubt that I am writing this review two months AFTER service ended. I wanted to give them a chance to make things right before posting this review and after experiencing the project and their "lifetime warranty," I can truly say that I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE. STAY FAR AWAY. Sales: The sales team lies. There is no nicer way to put it. They lie about the timeline. I was told my project would take six weeks and it took six months. I was told that things would be done that when my actual project manager got there I was told would be impossible. The employees openly speak disrespectfully of each other and it is clear that sales and the people who actually have to make the project work do not communicate. You are going to pay a SIGNIFICANT mark-up by going with Matrix and you are supposedly paying for premium service but it is anything but that. Project Management: Similar to Brian Hagerman's review my project manager was fired midway through my project. Mind you, he had a different project manager than me so this is clearly a theme. I went three weeks with no communication on my project before a new project manager was assigned. I was contacting my old project manager and not hearing back and then randomly a new one pops up. My original project manager made a series of promises that were not honored by my new project manager because I was informed the the original project manager lied about what he could accomplish. Staff: The staff I communicated with after I signed the contact were EXCEEDINGLY RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL. Mind you, my project faced numerous delays, long gaps of non-communication, broken promises, etc. About five months into the "six-week" project spray foam was installed in my walls. The person installing the spray foam asked for a check. I told him that I planned to pay online like I had made every other payment once the spray foam job was finished. All of my payments were made on time so there was no reason to assume that I didn't intend to pay. I received a call on my cellphone thirty minutes later from an employee named Dawn. Dawn refused to identify herself or her role, demanded payment over the phone immediately and spoke to me extremely disrespectfully before eventually hanging up in my face. Mind you, the people working were still in my basement during this time. I paid online, on time as I always did even though nothing about the actual work was on time and received no apology for her belligerently disrespectful behavior. Contractors: Be clear you are paying a significant mark-up for Matrix to contract out 98% of the work. For the most part contractors were friendly and completed their tasks. I hope they are being compensated well for their work. The quality of work varies from contractor to contractor and Matrix doesn't seem to have a system to check behind to see if the work was done properly. Rico: Rico was my second project manager and off of the strength of him I delayed this review and tried to give Matrix the benefit of the doubt. He was professional, timely and responsive. He genuinely seems to be great at his job. He took on my job after my first PM disappeared and did his best to salvage the job. He is the only bright spot in this entire experience. Post Service: By the end of this project I was just ready to have my basement back. The smart lights I purchased didn't work in the basement and I was told the issue was with a light. Turned out it was with the wiring. They knew this before we ended the project but I have been waiting for two months for anyone to even come look at the issue. We have done several large and disruptive remodeling projects over the years (including a two-story room addition while I was pregnant) so we are familiar with the process. This was the most frustrating remodel that we have done because of poor communication. In spite of the poor communication, the final product looks good. Our main contractor, Dave, was the only person who really communicated with us. Matrix did a small basement job (about 330 sq ft) which included one open room and a half bath for us. We were told at our sales meeting that the project would take 4 weeks, but delivery of materials was on June 16 and final walk through and final payment was August 26. During that time period, someone showed up to work on 16 days. Communication was great BEFORE our initial sales meeting when we signed the contract and paid 30% down. During that meeting with Matt, we had to haggle over a price which felt like buying a car. Lots of pressure to sign TODAY! We were going to be gone a few times during the summer and Matt told us that the job would take 4 weeks and every concern we brought up was answered with "no problem." After we signed we had to pay 30 % down which prevents you from canceling when they don't respond to email and phone calls later. They were supposed to deliver materials and start on June 6 so we cleared out the basement in the middle of May even though we hadn't heard anything. They finally delivered materials on June 16 which was the same day we received a thank you note from them in the mail thanking us for using them for our recent project. Delivery also required another check for 30%. No one reminded us of this before delivery (we had signed contract in March). They also ordered way too much. For example, they delivered a 6-pack of tubes of adhesive and they only used 1 or 2 tubes. We had double the number of dry wall sheets that we needed. The first thing they do is erect the panels so after they had been working 3 days, the Field Manager Steve stopped by for another 30% check. So, they wanted 90% of their money after only 3 days. I've never dealt with a contractor before whose pay was so front loaded. In general, the plumbing and electrical subs did a good job. However, our plans didn't have cable outlets marked and every time I mentioned it somebody said "don't worry about it" and then when I Mentioned it the final time, the response was "you should have told us before." They did put in cable boxes, but the placement was determined by the easiest place to put them rather than where I wanted them. I was home every day that people were working and they could have asked, but no one did. Other communication problems: our second contact person (Justin) quit and his email wasn't forwarded or turned off and no one responded. We finally heard from a 3rd person who sent us "revised" plans that hadn't been revised. During the project, a 4th contact person, who was coordinating the sub contractors, dropped out of the picture because his wife had a baby. Obviously, this was not a complete surprise and there should have been a contingency plan for the event. read more

Terrible. Very difficult to deal with. No-show for appointments because my spouse could not be there. I'm retired and she is a school teacher. I'm available but with all that is expected of teachers in these times, she just is not available for an initial appointment. I don't know if it is because I am a retiree or because my wife is an essential worker, but this company makes us feel very uncomfortable. I am not having this problem with other companies. My advise is to steer clear of these guys. read more

After doing my due diligence shopping for the right company to install my tub and surround, I decided to use Matrix Bath Systems. Unfortunately, the install did not go smoothly and there were some issues, however, Matrix stood behind their work and came back until I was completely satisfied. I love the look of my new tub, surround and the two caddies that hold my shampoo and soap. I also like that it has their Microban antimicrobial protection which inhibits mold and mildew even in the sealant. I recommend Matrix Bath Systems and would use them again. read more

When the rep got here for the estimate on our bathroom. We found out they only do tubs and showers. Everything else was up to us. When he gave us the price we almost fainted. If your hispanic trim guys took all of the unused materials & I want it back, why is it so hard for him to return everything he stole? Why is the manager having a hard time getting him to return everything? Is it bad enough Matrix shorten my bathroom without a work order? Shorten the laundry/storage area without a work order? They are finally finishing the basement, family and friends are asking what company we used and I tell them a company I don't recommend for the terrible customer service and experience they gave us. Sad they are losing clients for the terrible experience they provided us and the lies. I'm glad I am almost done dealing with this company. Never want anything to do with them again. Please be aware of this company and there terrible lies and customer service. They don't care about the clients once the contract is signed and they got there money. We reached out to get a basement quote about a month ago, we scheduled an appointment, they called to reschedule because of a snowstorm the day of, understandable, we rescheduled. Then they called again to reschedule, the day of, because the designer's prior call was going long and after that it would be too late, so we rescheduled again. We made it clear that if we got rescheduled again we'd move on and they said they put a note on the file - the first time was understandable, not really the second, but that a third time would be absurd. So today we had an appointment at 10am, I got a call shortly after 10am letting me know that they would have to reschedule due to a "designer emergency" - whatever that is... we obviously said that we wouldn't be rescheduling, this is ridiculous and we'll be finding another company to quote our basement remodel. read more

We got our large basement finished through Matrix and couldn't be happier. Here are the reasons I give them a 5 star rating. 1) They offer 0% financing. Which is WONDERFUL! 2) Their sales process was zero pressure. The sales guy was good and developed a good plan for us which wife and I were very happy with. 3) Their project coordinator Joe DeGrave was wonderful. A very responsive, responsible and courteous guy who got the job done nicely. 4) The contractors or employees they used to work on our basement were honest and great workers. Especially Joe Amezcua and Ray were two of the best carpenters/workers we have seen. They worked on our basement like it was their own and left no stone unturned to make this a good experience. 5) The finished product is stunning. They took our dingy basement which we hated going to and converted into this luxurious looking, super useful and cozy place that we love spending time in. THINGS TO WATCH OUT FOR: - I wish communication was a bit better between the project coordinator and the contractors. Sometimes some timelines were missed but they went above and beyond to bring the project back on track - a couple of the contractors didn't have the best work ethic but again Matrix took care of that matter right away - Just keep a tab on your deadlines and timelines and encourage communicativeness with Matrix and you'll be happy. Overall we're very happy with the way our basement looks and the quality of work done by Matrix. We give them a 2 thumbs up and highly recommend their services. read more

For those who only read the top couple lines, I'll start out simple - WOW! My experience with Matrix was terrific and the results amazing. I could not be happier. My issue was maybe an unusual one, I had a "friend of the family" who said he could do bathroom remodels create a tiled shower for me. However, I immediately started noticing major issues. Within 2 months, I realized that my attempt to save money was actually going to cost me more. At that point, I contacted Matrix. I met with a sales person, but because of my unique situation I was also able to meet with Greg, who worked with me to get things set up perfectly. He understood my frustration and heartache about having to have my new tile shower demoed and replaced. (I'll stop here real quick for a caveat - this is not a cheap plastic insert, if you are looking for cheap (and cheap looking) you should look elsewhere. These are high quality showers and as such are priced that way.) The day of my much anticipated install arrived, and that's when I met Martin and Kevin, my technicians. They were wonderful! (Thanks guys!) I can't say enough good things about them. The work they did was impeccable, the results gorgeous, the room clean after, in addition to their outside work area when they left. They were super nice and loved my dog Monkey (always a plus in my book). The guys also were able to show me all the damage from the original tile shower, and explained to me how they would fix it. They knew how upset I was about it and took steps to reassure me along the way that everything would be perfect when complete. Again, thanks Martin and Kevin... you're awesome! Had Matrix re-finish my basement. A few hiccups along the way but that's expected with any major reno work and issues were resolved appropriately. In the end the final product looks great. No major complaints except end of job clean up left a bit to be desired. read more

Very disappointing. Their tactic is to try to be as nice as possible, apologize, and try to relate to you in one way or another to convince you there is nothing to worry about. In my opinion, trust and respect are gained through actions, not words. Matrix has proven to be mostly all words and little to no action. They have repeatedly broken my trust through poor workmanship and offer disingenuous empathy in return. I would highly recommend to anyone that you CHOOSE A DIFFERENT COMPANY. The following is just a few issues we had with them. The salesman who initially came out to give us a quote was your typical salesman with aggressive tactics such as "if you don't decide today, the price will go up". In addition, despite us communicating to him multiple times that we did not want to have to do anything ourselves with our basement, I believe he purposely left off painting on our contract to keep the price where we needed it to be. It was definitely our fault for not fully reviewing the contract to ensure it was put on there, however when we did catch it and asked how much it would be to paint our small basement, we were informed it would be $3,777.00. In addition, the salesman informed us our basement would take 4-6 weeks to complete. It took over 5 MONTHS. The workers Matrix was initially sending to our house were also below standard. The man who installed our studs brought 2 very young men with him who appeared to be around the age 14. As they worked in my basement, I was able to hear the man explain to the kids in detail on what to do and how to do it while he worked in another area. I expressed this concern, was told Matrix would contact the worker, yet they continued to work on my basement. Later, when installing the doors in our basement, I was informed that all of the studs for the door jams had to be re-done because they were the wrong size. When it came to install the drywall, the men cut into the lid of our clean out pipe which goes to our septic tank. They decided to not tell me, I was home at the time, and the following day when I went down there to check on the basement, I noticed the cut and water coming out of the pipe. Matrix was out the following day to fix it. On top of the pipe lid having a large cut in it, the drywall workers then mudded over the pipe which later had to be re-cut to have access to it. I requested that the whole drywall sheet be replaced since water had been dripping from the pipe onto the drywall. It was not replaced. The problem which bothers me the most is Matrix violating their contract with us and taking all of our money before the project was even half way complete. I have asked them multiple times what went on with this and why Matrix violated the contract and have been given no answer. We were told we would have a project manager to schedule workers at our house and ensure the work was getting done correctly. All Matrix project managers do is schedule workers to be at your house, listen to your complaints, and schedule more workers to be at your house to fix the issue. We were responsible for consistently checking our basement plans to make sure all work was getting done. Matrix CONSISTENTLY FORGOT to complete things, almost as if they never even referred to the agreed upon basement plans. They basically had to be micro-managed by us in order to ensure everything got completed. The one good thing is that every time we brought it to their attention that things were being forgotten or not done correctly, such as the electrical outlet holes being too large, they fixed it. The customer service is awful!!!! Financing was not explained correctly and wanted payment prior to work being done. Gift cards promised but never given. Never return phone calls, if you get a hold of anyone to begin with. Discounts advertised but not offered. BUT with this being said, the contractor that did the work was great and the project completed in 2 days. Very satisfied with the workmanship. read more
