I thought I had done my research before choosing LA Fitness, but I was completely wrong. Unfortunately, this has been one of the most disappointing experiences I have had with a gym. I only went four times after joining -- yes, it was that bad. The gym is constantly overcrowded. You wait for machines not just during peak hours, but all the time. Members are often more interested in socializing than actually working out. They sit on machines chatting for long periods, and when you politely ask to jump in, you are met with glares or treated like you are interrupting something sacred. It is incredibly uncomfortable and discouraging for someone genuinely trying to work out. Some areas, especially in the cardio section, smell unpleasant, and several machines are often broken or poorly maintained. I eventually gave up on trying to get a proper workout and decided to use the sauna instead -- but that was no better. Every time I went in, there were women talking loudly on their phones, shaving, or even using the hot stones to dry their clothes. I honestly could not believe it. It was completely inappropriate and unsanitary. The showers were equally disappointing -- clogged drains full of hair, empty shampoo bottles left behind, used razors on the floor. I know the gym cannot control every member's behavior, but there are clearly no enforced standards or accountability. When you overfill a gym with no structure or cleanliness standards, this is what you get. To top it all off, I noticed that several members smoke right outside the entrance. Walking through a cloud of smoke on your way into a fitness facility is something I truly did not expect. And when you try to cancel? You are billed for an additional month, even if you do not plan on returning. No flexibility, no consideration. All in all, if you are looking for a serious, clean, and respectful environment to work out in -- and perhaps unwind in the sauna or shower -- this is not the place. The variety of equipment caters to all fitness levels, and everything is kept in excellent condition. The environment is friendly and welcoming, making every workout session enjoyable. The new old white lady that started working here is a complete RACIST…read more She specifically tells the minorities in the weightlifting room to fully put on our masks (BARELY below our nose) but completely ignored the other two white individuals who WEREN'T EVEN WEARING MASKS. Her reasoning when I called her out was that they were "working out" but that is still against Fit4Less rules. 1. As of the recent change, it is now required to fully wear a mask even when you're performing an exercise. Under no circumstances you take off your mask. These individuals didn't even have them on. 2. EVERYONE was working out, me and the other minorities weren't even moving yet she specifically targets us. (I was literally seated) This happened today as of 2021-02-26 during the 11AM timeslot. If management ever sees this and doubts it happened, feel free to check your cameras in that room. Newmarket in general has a higher population of Caucasians but I didn't believe that kind of racism has made its way into their local businesses...

Easier to change locations, which we have done, except we pay to use all GoodLife gyms so will seriously think about whether renewing memberships at the end of the year. We were part of dozens of people that moved there when another popular gym closed, therefore still have many friends there. What a difference good management makes.

Whenever I enter and exit the facility, the staff by the door would always ensure to greet me which sometimes could really raise a persons mood. The staff are usually very helpful if I had any questions or needed help. Another plus would be that there are plenty of parking spaces around the plaza, so no matter how busy it is, you can still find a decent spot The facility overall is very clean and the machines are not completely old and worn out compared to other locations I've visited. On the weekdays, there is usually a cleaner every morning that comes to sweep and mop the gym. Cleanliness is an important factor in not only gyms but for everything, and this gym does a good job with it. I find that most of the machines don't have much problems because of how attentive the staff is. TIP: Mornings and evenings on weekdays are generally busier, so if you could, come during the afternoon. Saturday's overall is usually less busy compared to Sunday's as well.

As soon as I confirmed that I was indeed Ukrainian she stressed that the first class is free since I'm new to the gym, but I have to pay next time I come in. Frankly, I wasn't even aware of that the first class was free - I was happy to pay. She then proceeded telling me how "all these Ukrainians" take advantage and "think they can just sneak into free classes without paying". I was extremely offended by such blatant generalizations. Needless to say, I walked out immediately as I feared that a person of my nationality would be unwelcome there. And based on a quick look around the place, it felt like a dungeon and the equipment was dated. I wouldn't recommend it.

Great selection of quality cardio equipment. The gym is a little small but in my one month of membership I have not had to wait for any equipment (although I typically work out past 8PM - rush hour might be different.) Seems to have a good selection of class offerings although I haven't attended any. Facility is very clean and extremely pleasing aesthetically. There is always somebody walking around cleaning. Age group 18 and up and members have solid gym etiquette; practically all weights are always in the right place. The weekend hours could be better. It's open till 11pm on Friday, 7pm on Saturday /Sunday, and midnight on weekdays. Overall 4.5/5, very solid gym, extended hours would make it 5/5 for me.
