Ok, so I don't usually go this in depth with reviews, but I HAVE to share my experience with this dental office--because Dr. Johnson is not just a dentist, he is truly an artist and a perfectionist! After visiting 3 other dentists who were either unsure or unwilling to address my alignment issue, I was left with discouraging options: one told me I'd need braces for a full year, and another insisted I'd need a few implants and remove my HEALTHY teeth. Any dentist who recommends removing healthy teeth should absolutely be avoided. Thankfully, I heard about Dr. Johnson from a friend in the dental field, and I am so incredibly grateful I made the 6 hour drive to see him! In just 3 days my teeth were fixed, something I didn't think was possible after what I'd been told for years! The entire experience was great. The whole office was so welcoming and kind. Erica and Katie at the front desk were amazing. And I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Johnson's assistant, Hannah! She was super informative and so kind, and her calm demeanor made all the difference in my experience. I shared with her my fear of the numbing process, and she immediately put my mind at ease, reassuring me Dr. Johnson was the best, and she was absolutely right, I didn't feel a thing. Hannah and Dr. Johnson work seamlessly as a team. She consistently communicated throughout the procedure, offering insight and feedback from her perspective, which I believe contributed to the outstanding final result. That level of collaboration and attention to detail was noticeable from the start! After living all over the U.S. and even in Europe and having to have extensive dental work throughout the years due to an injury, I can confidently say this is the best dentist, and office, I've been to! I almost passed them up, too, due to some Yelp reviewsI read. But, I truly don't understand them. But, I am aware, as a small business owner myself, of Yelp's sketchy practices, and it makes me wonder. I've been pressured to purchase their packages in exchange for removing negative reviews and if you refuse I've done. I've heard from other small businesses that they would have random negative reviews appear. I, honestly, suspect it's the case here! I've looked at Dr. Johnson's reviews outside of Yelp, andbhe consistently earns 5 stars across the board. So, shame on you Yelp! Bottom line, If you are deciding between dentists,  save time and just go with Dr. Johnson. I am beyond grateful I did, and thrilled with my results! I really really try not to be one of these "Karen" types but I just had to share my horrible experience with this office and beg anyone to read this before going!! First and foremost the front staff and hygienist and even the dentist Mr. Johnson felt extremely pushy and rushed the entire time. My daughter recently had an appointment a simple cleaning and left feeling horrible (I had an appointment the same week so I figured I would just keep it and see for myself since they charge some ridiculous $75 cancellation fee but after what my daughter described I decided not to. She Spoke with the front reception named Erika who seemed nice enough, but that's about the best it got. When she finally got taken in, she had a hygienist named Janea (not quite sure how it was spelt) and it was one of the worst and quite frankly most uncomfortable experiences of my girl's life. She was rude, short with her with I guess a big attitude, seemed completely distracted and not taking her job seriously at all constantly checking her phone and watch, her hands were super shaky and honestly she WREACKED of Alcohol, like vodka and seltzers so badly I wanted to throw up for both our sakes, and she was basically sweating down into her mask. I'm not sure if she just got done with a crazy weekend bender or something but it was so unprofessional and having someone like that doing delicate work and supposed to be a dental professional it was just embarrassing. If I can give anyone any tips for the future when visiting here !!!PLEASE try to request someone else and I really really hope the doctor sees this and has a serious talk with her as it was uncomfortable again to say the least. Needless to say my daughter and I will no longer be going here and will tell our friends and family and anyone else we know to steer clear as well. read more

Matt is a salesman and his patient care style is aggressive and money motivated. I left my last dentist of over 10 years to him and suddenly had 8 cavities. On a follow up exam I magically had more work he didn't notice the first time. His hygienist sets a timer on her watch for cleanings. The final straw that had me leave before a 3rd visit was cracking a joke to his staff on my way to his hygienist "get ready for a workout ha ha ha". Yes, I have coffee stained teeth but only 1 cavity prior. Don't need to be shamed on my visit to a dentist. Didn't have the cavities. read more

This was one of the worst experiences. I felt like I went to a used car lot to buy a Volkswagen and they were trying to sell me a Mercedes. I had my teeth cleaned by the hygienist in which he said I would probably need some deep cleaning in the back but my front teeth looked good. Then Dr Johnson came in and went thru my teeth and basically wanted to replace all my crowns in which I told him they don't bother me .. he still insisted they needed replacement (ugh); was my thought. I have a bridge in my front teeth that he proceeded to say "you know you have a crack on your front tooth?" I replied yes and told him it doesn't bother me because I can't even see it... the Dr replied with " you can't see it but everyone that looks at you can .... really I was appalled not to mention I asked many friends an relatives if they could see it and they all said "NO" Upon leaving I had to make a deep cleaning appointment and told Erica the front office girl, that I believe according to the hygienist I only had an issue with the back teeth. She proceeded to tell me she had to talk to the hygienist. Came back and said "oh no you need a full moth done". I said okay made the appointment knowing I would never go back there. Thank goodness I got a second opinion by another Dentist and he found that what I was told, couldn't have been farther from the truth of what I needed done. He basically thought I was getting scammed. He reassured me if I needed any deep cleaning it would only be in the far back. I hope this will help others read more

PLEASE READ THIS. I'm not one to write a negative review unless "pushed" into it by the overwhelming feeling of necessity to do so. I'm a friendly person and very much wanted to get off on a good start w/ my new dentist. (You'll understand why I mentioned this...if I was a "crab" then, perhaps, I could understand the front office's treatment during my second trip.) So very many WAY 'off' things happened, that I will have to shorten sentences for most (NOT all) of it to fit in a rvw. 4/02: Clearly "lovebombed" on my first visit by front desk: Upcoming "cha-ching!!". I had called, beforehand, and spoke to the office mgr re my concern of having inexperienced "young" dental hyg's jabbing me w/ instruments and have no rapport w/ their clients. She said that she didn't have anyone "young" there, but set me up w/ Alyssa. Let's quickly go down the BIG (multiple)"Red Flag" list: -Alyssa came out to waitg rm: Not personable in the least nor welcoming. Cold. Sat in chair w/ lump in stomach. Heard dr say, in an elevated manner to make sure that I heard, to someone on the other side of the partition (the min that I sat down), "Yeah...like all of 'them' (assts/hyg's)are in their 20's!!", in an exasperated way. -Alyssa jabbed me, lower left jaw, during cleaning/a scaling, and I almost saw stars fm the jolt of pain...leading to subconsciously muttering "S.O.B!" under my breath as I was in an altered state for that moment from the sudden jolt. She did NOT utter a word!! Not "Oh, r u ok?", not even an exclaimed sound (gasp) fm her - NOTHING!! (Ten min later, I apologized to her for swearing and she just kept her back to me and shrugged her shoulder, w/ an indifferent, "It's ok.") -Dr: The pressure to replace my 3 crowns was something else. He stated that he could "easily do 1 when I get my filling in a couple of wks." FUNNY, my previous dentist AND my new dentist (for a THIRD opinion), X-rays taken each time, BOTH said that my crowns "Look FINE." (-Alyssa walked me out to the wt'g rm prior to seeing the dr. Not a word/smile all the way. Yet, I was polite to thank her and use her name when I got up fm my chair! She does not have the emotional IQ for this job, clearly. Only, to say "Have a seat (not a "please") and the dr will be w/ you shortly." (Gee, I'm only a new client...not a 'thanks for coming in', nor a 'hope to see you next time'...I mean NOTHING!) Yet, she came out later to say with a big smile to a client (in front of me), "Bye, Barbara!" I thought, "Well, lucky Barbara!" -Called Erica when I rtn'd home to get the Office Mgr's email address. She (deliberately, no doubt, AFTER I carefully read the address bk to her FOUR times, b/c she seemed quite reluctant to give it to me... had given me an incorrect email address. So, Thurs, so I kept getting del'vy failures Fri thru Sun. Called her Mon mrn'g, she 'apologized' for the wrong address. What?? It is an inherent part of the business' name and she left out a letter -- 4x reading it bk?? -Second trip: To get a filling. Wish that I hadn't, but needed it done asap. I was treated w/ disdain at the front desk by Erica and the blonde lady sitting on her left - whoa!! In other words, "how DARE I ask for the office mgr's email and have the nerve to call her bk about the del'vry failures and reminding her that I read it back 4X." I had the right to be annoyed, but wasn't impolite about it. It's not my nature. So, I was given the "freeze-out" for this during my 2nd appt. -Paid my bill on the way out, after 2nd appt, and walked out as fast as my feet would carry me. Just prior to it, her voice suddenly got "sweet" (after the prior upper-lip lifting), and then said, "You have other services. Do U want to schedule now?" I asked, "Can I call you?" And just about flung the hinges off the door while exiting. 5/08: Indifferent sounding lady (on my vm) called to say that they have "no record" of cleaning, but only trtmnt, exam, & X-rays - want me to come in for the cln'g. I am a new patient to Dr. Johnson just finished up my first appointment, I was very impressed ! Dr. Johnson is just a really nice guy, very easy to understand and highly skilled. Good looking too! His team was awesome, everyone I worked with with was professional, caring, kind and I was very comfortable and at ease. The office was very clean, modern, well lit, a very nice environment. Great music too! I can be a very difficult person to work with regarding dentistry work as I have developed a kind of phobia and general nervousness when visiting the dentist, Dr. Johnson and his team really put me at ease, I am very grateful. I had a dentist for a long time and thought he was doing a good job. Then I came to this office and realized that my past dentist wasn't really doing a great job. I had leaking crowns that had to be replaced, and an abscess under one of my teeth. Dr. Johnson is the most thorough dentist I have ever seen. What I like is that he has the latest and greatest technology so he can do a CT scan of your mouth right in his office which is how he found the abscess. He also makes the crowns right there so you can have the entire process done in one visit. He also made me a bleaching tray and his hygienist, Janae, is also very thorough. She got up in my gumline and really cleaned my teeth the best that they have ever been done. I highly recommend these folks. The front office staff is also good and they are thorough. read more

I have read a lot of reviews before chosing a dentist and most of the bad reviews focused on the dentist trying to push procedures on the patient that were unneccessary or they were mischarged for procedures. I don't have an issue if the dentist suggests a procedure but it is really annoying if they are trying to scare you into having a procedure done. Sometimes offices try to nickle and dime you for things like charging $15 to email you a copy of your xrays. Matt Johnson's office has modern equipment, I didn't get a hard sell, and the office people were nice. Unfortunately I changed insurance providers so I had to find another dentist but I wanted to share my thoughts with those looking for a dentist. read more

The front office staff is welcoming, sweet and helpful. They are transparent with billing and do a thorough job with insurance coverage before proceeding with any service. No billing surprises! They answered my questions with patience and care. Making an appointment is easy and they send out reminders 3 days and 2 hours in advance. Hygienist, Janae, is awesome and informative. She educated my children on how to meticulously take care of their oral health. I have never seen a dental professional explain everything as throughly as she did with visuals. She takes her time to answer questions, makes suggestions and doesn't pressure you into any services. My kids were nervous and she kindly allowed me to sit with them for their visits. They felt comfortable and said she did a better job cleaning their teeth than anyone previously. They will be seeing her again. Dr. Johnson was nice and answered any remaining questions. He showed me visual proof of one of my daughters cavities and had time to work on it, so we got it done the same day. Work done is good so far. I didn't get my checkup done by them yet, only my kids did. I am looking forward to it. It was refreshing to come to a dental office that doesn't feel like a car dealership. read more

I am here to exercise my consumer rights in a democratic country.I start by saying that I have referred several people to Dr. Johnson;3 of them became his patients.I was happy with his work with some reservations as I had to monitor and remind him what had been agreed and planned.When I started as his patient, he took time to understand my needs and explain the type of work that he did under his specialties; things changed and I was feeling that he was doing me a favor by keeping same standard as in the beginning. An accident happened that shook my trust on his judgment and care for my safety and health.While applying desensitizer he dropped it on my eye...I got up and reached for my eye drop. Accidents can happen,but it could have been prevented had I been offered a goggle, same type that he,his assistants wear on a daily basis.Why wouldn't it apply to his patients?This safety and carefor his patients wasn't his priority, neither important to him.His attitudes following accident showed his values,his judgment and perhaps lack of knowledge. After applying few drops to my eye he was very much in a hurry to keep working on me asking quickly if I was feeling my eye stinging instead of addressing properly my affected eye by taking the time to use the flush station that he had in his office to make sure my eye would be as safe as possible under these circumstances.He demonstrated not caring at all about my health and safety rather worried about keep his working schedule on track. Hard to believe what was going on...He never called me to ask how I was doing, but after couple days my eye felt very uncomfortable which led me to go to Hoag emergency care for examination, so I called his office to ask for the data sheet of the chemical involved on his accident,the desensitizer that he dropped on my eye. I was waiting for his email with the information, but headed to Hoag. He called and told that it was unnecessary to look for medical attention, he said that he was "surprised" that I was going to get medical attention...Later on, he told me that he did not flush my eye neither advised me that medical attention because he believed that the eye drops that I had applied on my eye on the spot and my own tears would have been enough care according to his believes. My visit to Hoag E.R proved otherwise, showed cornea abrasion,I had to have extensive flushing and I was prescribed two eye drops, one to increase the eye pressure to speed up healing and other to prevent infection. Just wondering what would have happened had I followed his careless advice...As a matter of fairness I disputed the hospital charge which I felt was abusive and got substantial reduction even though I intended to present him thebill. He did not change a thing about prevention and educating himself about how chemicals could affect his patients.He had the believe that it would not cause any harm,that my own tears and few eye drops was enough to counteract the chemical he dropped and again my visit to Hoag ER proved otherwise. He was never volunteer to assure me that he had reviewed his safetyprocedures and had changed his priorities in the event of another accident.I had to bring my own safety goggle to wear when I needed dental work.I got to a point where the event and his reaction to it were bothering me, so I contacted him to ask if he would take the time to gather safety data sheet about all his chemicals and equipment on his office to educate himself to act accordingly if another event should happen. Asked if it was worthy of his time.Later on he said that he had done the education and had a training with his personnel to react accordingly if it happened again.I asked for a refund of a repair done on a crown done while back.This tooth was considerable reduced and sensitive.I had mentioned that I was concerned about it need a root canal treatment before cementing the new crown, but he said that the sensitiveness would go away,it would be ok. It ended up requiring a root canal after the new crown was set.I asked what went wrong 'cause he said the tooth did not need a root canal. He argued that he would need an exam that he was not equipped to do, that would be better done by an endodontist, but he did not take the time to request it, did not care enough;As a consequence of it I had to pay for this repair. He offered no discount on it.I have mentioned it recently and requested a refund 'cause it was in line with the same lack of care andjudgement following my eye accident.He was sensitive about my recent request saying it did not sit well with him &had hurt feelings,said he may not be my "guy"; and so be it.I got to know another side of this doctor that superseded some technical knowledge that brought me to him initially.I did not cause the accident to happen, just reacted to it as it was uncovering this doctor values.Never cared about hurting my feelings neglecting my safety and wellbeing and how it affected me emotionally and financially. read more

I have searched high and low for a good dentist and Dr.Johnsons office is by far the best in Orange County. My last experience, I went to MV Dental and they put in a very expensive crown that cracked inside of a week and I've been suffering since. I came to Dr.Johnsons office and it has been the best experience ever. I met Dr.Johnson with my own plan to have all my teeth removed and to get those all on 4 super expensive implants done, and he explained to me that he could repair all of the issues I had without needing to spend a fortune on the implants. I'm very impressed with Dr.Johnson and his super professional staff. His office is really high tech and modern (very warm and nice). I'll admit, I was hesitant because I had other dentists tell me they could not work on my super long roots but all said and done, Dr.Johnson was gentle and got me through this with no discomfort or pain .. and I needed serious work done. I had several abscesses, and broken teeth. Now I have confidence and I was able to afford the costs. Dr.Johnson is probably average priced, but for the best high end work available. I will never see another dentist again, I am a loyal customer forever! Thank you Dr.Johnson and staff, you guys are truly the best! I feel so much better. And hey, you cured my fear of the dentist! My hometown is Washington state and I love my dentist there, but I knew I needed to get one here since we are spending more and more time in California. Can you say used car salesman? Upgrade. Upgrade. This doctor gave me a "comprehensive" exam which was not covered by my insurance (I did not know this) and also an extensive set of x-rays above and beyond what is normally done (I did not know this either)...also not covered by my insurance. I went there for a broken bridge and walked out after paying a couple hundred dollars for NOTHING!!! Also there are Mormon religion materials in the waiting room. Bizarre. read more

Dr Johnson is a great dentist. He easily has the best "bed side manner" of any dentist I've been to. He was incredibly friendly and personable. When I went in, my xrays showed that I had a small spot on a tooth that didn't look like much. Dr Johnson took the time to look into it further instead of just telling me to come back in 6 months. It was a good thing too because once he drilled into the tooth it was full of "gunk". If I had waited to get it looked at, I would have for sure needed a root canal!
