Mantra has a fascination with entomology, The study of insects. This fascination reflects in his work that is frequently of insects such as this one. You will find this mural on display in the heart of Downtown Little Rock, right at the entrance of the River Market and side od David's Burgers. This piece is not only detailed, but scientifically accurate as well. Some of Native Arkansas butterflies depicted in the mural include the Parhassius, Cupido, Celastrina, and Lycaena. Also, the shading Mantra uses in the mural is amazing. In addition to the reflecting Mantra's love of insects, the mural gives a nod to the famous Little Rock Nine, a group of nine courageous black students who instrumental in integrating a local high school in 1957, drawing national attention to the civil rights movement. There is metered street parking available within a reasonable walking distance from the mural. The meters run from about 8AM to 6PM, Monday thru Friday. This is a nice mural and I enjoyed the very loose tribute to the Little Rock Nine. If you are near the Market, you cannot miss it. This mural was a community effort, which I am always a fan of. Everybody from the neighborhood had the opportunity to paint the Everyone's Neighborhood mural (I know....cheesy). The mural was based off a sticker that local graphic designer Josh Coker made. The mural depicts the Little Rock Skyline in a blue frame with the words "Downtown Little Rock" above it and "Everyone's Neighborhood to the left of it. It is all set against a lite blue background and colorful rays coming from the skyline. It has a "Greetings From ...." kind of vibe to it. It is a nice welcome to the city. This mural is definitely worth a peek and is very instagrammable (if that is your thing). The mural overlooks a private parking lot, so briefly parking here to get a closer look should not be an issue. There is also street parking available nearby. We found the Eagle of the Rock tucked away near the edge of the river, perched like it's been…read morestanding guard over Little Rock for centuries--even though it's only been there since the '90s. Still, it feels older. Like it belongs there. Like the rock underneath it has been waiting for the eagle all this time. The statue itself isn't huge, but it's striking--wings spread, gaze sharp, frozen mid-screech over the Arkansas River. It's symbolic, sure, but it also just looks cool, especially with the skyline in one direction and the water rolling out in the other. There's something quiet and proud about it. If statues could talk, this one wouldn't say much. It would just watch. It's not the easiest place to find unless you're walking or biking the river trail, but that's kind of what makes it special. You don't stumble on it by accident--you arrive there. And when you do, it feels like a small moment that matters. You look out from that spot and think, Yeah, I get why this place was worth naming a city after. A great little stop for reflection, a photo, or just a pause. Definitely worth the short detour.

This is one of the city's signature sculptures and one of the original six sculptures placed in the River Market in 2004. This is a simple mural that depicts a large eagle with its wings spread above it head, as if it was getting ready to take off. The sculpture is in relatively good shape and is very detailed. It is the work of Michael…read moreWarrick and Aaron Hussey and signifies the first survey of the American West, most notably Prospect Robbins and Joseph Brown, the surveyors who began the survey of the Louisiana Purchase in 1815, in Arkansas. It was commissioned by the Committee for Louisiana Purchase Survey Bicentennial Monument It was dedicated in 2017 in conjunction with the 200th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase Survey. The sculpture is made of stainless steel, cast bronze, tempered glass, and concrete. It measures 18-foot-high, 12-foot-wide, and 13-foot-deep. This is a nice piece. The multi-facet sculpture has a compass face of tempered glass with the Louisiana Purchase territory and an Arkansas outline etched in it. Behind the compass you will find a dome on the ground with patterns representing latitude and longitude lines and the base representing the Earth. The third part of the sculpture is a 5-foot bronze plumb bob. Off to the side, you will find a survey tripod. You will find bronze placards around the sculpture that provides details about it and its financers. This is the type of sculpture that you need the background story to completely understand and appreciate. It is in great shape and well maintained. It is worth a quick peek if you are in the area. Unfortunately the market it's only open from 10 to 2 Monday through Saturday. We walked past Thai, Korean, Lebanese, Greek, Mexican, Italian ... food vendors. There were tables in the middle.
