I have been known to be pretty finicky about my nails and feet, down to the way they are trimmed and ensuring the polish is fresh. After having an experience in Aurora that left my thumb infected and visiting urgent care twice for antibiotics, I am not so much a stickler for the colors and all that, but for the hygiene and cleanliness of the salon. I do prefer tools to be autoclaved and my foot spa sanitized so when I was told that was standard practice at Matte, I was excited to try them out. My expectations were definitely lower than reality as the shop is well appointed and clean, with modern touches and decorations. It is very sterile, and in a nail salon, that's exactly what I like to see. The salon offers YSL, Louboutin, Chanel and Tom Ford polishes for an up charge. They also offer to trim your nails down. For an up charge. They also will slough your feet, massage your toes and work on getting your feet summertime fly for...you guessed it...an up charge!!! So a fill in on my gel overlays with a pedicure, two designs that were just okay not really what I wanted, the use of Chanel polish and trimming my nails was over $70. A bit more than my normal places, and unlike them, Matte is small. They have six pedicure stations and eight nail stations, and were understaffed when I went, with an appointment. I made one during the week and still had to wait 20 minutes. I'd recommend having one to ensure you don't have to wait like the people who walked in, unattended and just staring at the nail techs working on their current client. Some reviews mentioned that the staff gave them cookies or refreshments. Not moi. Though since I saw others be asked, I assume the staff just figured I was not thirsty. My appointment was at 12:00, I was not serviced until 20 mins later and didn't walk out of Matte until 2:30. And when I did my first stop was the Starbucks next door. But hey, at least my nails are cute. I don't think I'd go back. read more

Very disappointed. Got full set and a pedicure. Chunky and sloppy set, asked at least four times to file the sides more until I felt uncomfortable to ask , since the lady was not listening to me whatsoever. Nails look like shovels, been hurting for two days straight. The guy who was doing my pedicure was rushing, basically kept my feet in the water for a little bit and put some polish on my toes, I feel like a three year old would do a better job. Updated review -- I was initially very impressed with this place. I will say for a pedicure and an "okay" manicure this place will suffice. I was disappointed that they don't use full sets (i.e.: essie gel couture is not supposed to have a base coat and it's supposed to use their top coat but Matte doesn't. Same with Essie's no-chip). I'm also disappointed that there always seems to be something off about my manicure. Normally the polish isn't completely to my cuticle or they've made the cuticle edge jagged, or they over-file my nails. Again.. it's fine for the area but I've absolutely have had better. I won't be returning for manicures but will come back for pedicures. read more

Was pretty excited to try this place based on reviews. The place itself was nice and modern, cleaner than most, and had some lit music. I did not however get offered any beverage or cookies as some have reviewed. The service itself was sub par at best. The polish job on my pedicure was well below average. I picked a light color which as we all know can get jacked up real quick if you don't polish quickly, accurately, and evenly. My manicure was blah too. I usually never post a bad review - but I was appalled by the service I received at this nail salon. I got my nails done here a couple months ago for my UNDERGRAD graduation - a big deal. Such an extremely busy nail salon but that wasn't the problem. The problem was the customer service and the amount of attention to my appointment my nail tech gave me. I am a paying customer paying for your services. And at the time not only mine but also for my younger sister. My nail appointment took over 2 hours to get completed! Not because of their attention to detail but because my nail tech was more invested in taking phone calls and double booking appointments while working on my nails. If you're not able to tend to the customer infront of you...just stop booking. Consistently walking away from me during the whole appointment - every five minutes. Even my sister noticed. Taking phone call after phone call and scheduling while working on my full set. Why am I even paying you and tipping you if you're not giving the customer the attention and detail they're paying for? I came out with my thumbs at two different nail lengths. Had to go back in again because I was rushed out just to have him quickly file my nails...and I was so upset with my experience I didn't even want to waste time writing a review right away. Worst experience at a nail salon in my life. I wouldn't waste my business here. There are better businesses near by. Poor service today for my wife. My daughter made appointments for 3PM. They started my daughter's nails and kept telling my wife it would be "five more minutes". 40 minutes later, 20 minutes from closing, my daughter was done and they still hadn't started on my wife. Don't get me wrong, the salon is beautiful. But, my nails? Horrid. I live in Chicago but I work in Bolingbrook; I decided to give this salon a "go" on my lunch hour and I can't regret it enough. This has been the worst no-chip manicure I've ever received in my life. And, I've had quite a few. The technician who did my nails not only colored my cuticles but has managed to file down certain parts of my nail, creating a dent/wave in it. Cuticles weren't taken care of and his "painting" skills were awful - to the point I complained to the manager. The manager offered to fix it but I already spent $37 and an hour of my life. This place makes your nails look good for only a few days and then your $60 goes down the toilet. I've gotten acrylics here twice now. The first time one nail fell off after about a week, I though no biggie it's just one nail. Then the day before I go on vacation to Italy with my family I get them done again. FIVE DAYS into the vacation 4 of my nails have fallen off. I returned back to America the other day and just came in with my sister, who also got acrylics and they were falling off and her white polish was turning brown, asking for a refund. The manger says there's nothing he can do because we didn't come in within a week after getting them. Even AFTER explaining we were literally in another country.... no refund and would have had to pay for a whole new set to fix them???? Um no thanks. Moral of the story the quality of your nails here may look good in the beginning but will turn to crap after a week. Don't wast your money or time. read more

I went in as a walk in and I got Cindy, and she hooked me up!! She made my nails looks so natural; not thick and bulky. I had a full set done at another salon before I came in, and she didn't even feel comfortable doing a fill in over the mess my nails was and so she started all over, and I was extremely impressed and very satisfied with her service. She had to spend 20 minutes shortening and filing because she made me get them too long in the first place when I requested short nails WITH a photo reference. I am appalled that I payed 33$ for a full set that wasn't even filed underneath, and she refused to round out the edges because "they would dull by themselves." The place was beautiful and very clean. I went in yesterday on my birthday to get a Gel full set. Well the man who did my nails pulled out what looked like Acrylic polymer powder. I asked what it was, he said it was "Gel powder". So i shrugged it off and at the end I payed $40.00 just for the set alone.Well I should have done my research before, and I discovered that Gel sets consists of a liquid and a GEL. Not liquid and POWDER. There's no such thing as a "Gel Powder". So I pretty much got a $28 Acrylic set but was charged $40 for something that it wasn't. I'm very upset about getting ripped. If not for this experience, I would've given this establishment 4 or 5 stars. Heed my warning, know what you are getting!! Ask questions and if you still feel unsure, then just leave. read more

My first time here based on suggestion of a friend who comes here. I called Tuesday and was able to get an appointment for the next day after work with TEA. SHE IS AMAZING! She works quickly but pays attention to detail. She has been with the shop for a couple of years. She loves to create designs so if you are adventurous please let her freestyle design for you. the trouble i had to go through for these nails was unbelievable. I had an appointment at 4 and got there at 3:45, it was 4:15 okay i guess they were busy whatever and these other 2 people walk in and get seated. FINALLY comes 5 when they do me and my friends nails, highly upset surprised we didn't leave. anyways we got seated and the lady that i got was very impatient and harsh w my nails once it came the time for what i wanted i showed her not just one but 2 pictures from THEIR instagram page. and she told me they couldn't do it. at this point i was beyond upset, i wanted to cry there in that spot. my experience was horrible ! also it was $65, the third picture i showed them was also from their page and finally she attempted but failed. at this point i couldn't i was so upset, the woman grabbed a white glitter instead of a chrome and i said no it's grey and it's chrome and she said so rudely " no it's sparkly i know what i'm doing", after she came into her senses she knew it wasn't right so she grabbed what i said. and she told me i was right but when she was trying to do the ombré affect she couldn't, since she knew i didn't like them and was upset which i'm thankful she noticed. she made me change to a kevin guy which did them as the picture showed. lol still never coming here again. don't waste ur time it's horrible half the people don't even know what they are doing and have bad attitudes. read more

Decided to come here after seeing all the good reviews, unfortunately they are outdated. My nails took about 2 and a half hours, called to make an apt, ended up having to wait nearly an extra hour because they started to take people before me. My nail job was ok. No nail polish just powder which I noticed started to crack after a week. After the 2nd week my nails started to fall off, typically even after a month with full sets of artificial nails it's hard to try to get nails off and when you try to remove them yourself it can hurt. Not with these they would fall off and I would later see that I was missing a nail.. it hadn't been a month and I only had my pinky and thumb nails on.. little disappointing due to the price. Not sure if it was because of the powder polish they used maybe? Still expected them to last a little longer especially after the price!!! I got the basic pedicure and a full set there. Paid $103 which is outrages. My pedi nail polish started to chip after 3 days. Not to mention they didn't trim or push back my cuticles either. Nails looked nice for the week, but could have looked better & lasted longer! read more

Please do not waste your money here. They did a terrible job on my cousin and I. I asked for a full set and they were all slanted and bumpy. Literally the worst set I've ever gotten and he was so prideful with his work. I told him "this one is slanted," he said "don't worry about it." First timer! Decided I would look for a new nail spot near my house instead of traveling across town. Came here without having read a review and had such a great experience. Ronnie did my pedi, took his time (not rushed and not dragging but just the right time of attention) and I am so happy with my pedi! He understood my nail shape and length and gave me what I wanted. Polish job was a 10 and absolutely love the upscale decor. Plenty of TV's, tons of polishes and luxe polishes (some cost extra). And the complimentary water/tea/wine/soda doesn't hurt either.
