Very Comfortable Shopping Today I was very comfortable shopping with Tina today. She gave me lots of space to walk around, but was close enough so I could ask some questions. I bought a huge three seater power recliner about 25 years ago (that needs replacement), from this store. We love it, but it's now too big and old... but still works. We got some great ideas and lots of figures (H,W,D), so I can figure out what will work in our space. Thanks for having great furniture for a long time... Good quality and selection. Very disappointed in the service provided to my in-laws. Bad business practice, I will no longer recommend Matter. We purchased our living room furniture a few years ago and since had sent many other friends and family to Matter. The latest, our parents, in their 80's came in and purchased sofa and loveseat. When delivered, it was too much furniture for the room, within a couple days, request a rerun understanding the pickup fee would be charged. I was furious to hear there was an additional 30% stocking fee! Really...two days after deliver, that is elder abuse! The plan was to buy chair(s) vs couch, recliner chairs...it did not matter...30% fee. The chairs will likely cost more than the couch. Not the type of business I will support nor further recommend. If you like salespeople and a company where greed is the #1 objective this place is for you! After spending $2500 in the store for 3 barstools that included a $150 delivery fee that we were promised by Lisa Marie (salesperson) a morning delivery for we encountered a call on the delivery date that the delivery would be 2-6pm. We requested Am delivery as we don't live in Florida but just visit for a week or so at a time. Of course the delivery occurred at 5:50pm and we had to cancel our Valentines delivery. upon complaining we are now told they could not promise the AM delivery. Had we known that at purchase date we would not have bought the chairs! Deceiving customers to make a sale is reprehesible! After multiple calls we finally did get a call back and the Manager apologized, I guess that was supposed to make us feel better! I told her to look up the difference between an apology and an amend! At a minimum they should have refunded the delivery for their deceptive business practices and ruining our Valentines dinner!! read more

Vince the sales associate is horrible, disrespectful and fails to communicate the essential issues to ensure a satisfied customer. After living in my house for a year, I figured it was time to get busy, buy furniture, and do some serious designing. I had to address an ever growing list of closest friends that want to come visit in sunny Dunedin, FL. I started searching furniture stores and couldn't find the seaside/coastal living style I wanted. Then, at 2:00 in the morning, I saw a commercial for Matter Bros. specializing in the Florida style. I saw the Tarpon location and went for it. That was six months ago. I have my family room, guest room, living and dining room completed! I can say that my American Drew Antigua wall unit is not only fantastic but was custom ordered to my liking with a price that blew the competition out of the water. My new 55" HDTV is a perfect fit. I have a new unique palm tree based dining table with a Key West style sideboard and mirror that complements perfectly. I ordered the dining chairs in a glistening sand color to balance. I also found a coastal style cocktail table that accents perfectly in the living room. I am close but not finished yet! As I was a designer in the 80s, I knew the business and also how aggressive some sales staffs could be. When I was greeted by Tina, I was skeptical to put it mildly. I didn't realize that not only did she give me room to breathe but she knew her business and was very personable. She was extremely helpful and performance emphasized excellence. She also made me feel that customer service was primary. I was given reasonable delivery dates, called by shipping in Ft Myers for confirmation and scheduled delivery, and assured by the delivery staff that they would do anything to make me happy. They even performed standard touch up right there. (Yes, you will have an occasional mark or two on your furniture no matter what the price. Get over yourself.) Since then, I had a minor concern that was addressed by Tina immediately. She has become a good friend and is now my "go to" person for anything concerning interior design and furniture. She is also the perfect person I would want to represent my company. I've read about others at other locations! Tom Matter was also most helpful during my shopping experience at Matter Bros. We just bought a house & we need to furnish it completely. I saw a t.v console that was made by Hooker, on line, I wanted it for my living room. Matter Brothers advertised that they had it in the Tarpon store. So I drove over to Tarpon & I literally walked around for 45 minutes & not one person asked me if I needed assistance. There was one woman sitting & doing something on her iPad & another woman sitting & I'm not sure what she was doing, but it wasn't helping me or anyone else that I could see. I saw a man talking to customers, so of course he was busy. Someone walked in just as I was looking in the front of the store, again for this piece & one of the females asked him if he needed help. This not only made me angry that I was ignored, but it made me feel as if they qualify people before they decide to try to help them. Customer service is horrible, I'll just go back to Haverty's where people are willing to help with a smile! read more

Found this store online, went to Hudson's first, on a mission to find a sleeper sofa. Greeted by Susan, who reeked of cigarette smoke (not a good first impression), waited for Jack as he was referred to me. At first I felt a little pushed into what he wanted to sell me, bc I think that's the brand he maybe liked best of knew best. He had only been there 2 days from Hudson where he last worked. I finally had to get firm and explain that I didn't want what he was pushing so I looked around and gave him some options. I kept coming back to this one sleeper sofa, so after 2 hours, I said "order it". Well, it wasn't available. He expld he'd have to check on Monday to see if they'll be making it again and get back to me. I said, "I'll be pissed if I spent 2 hrs here and finally find something only to be told, 'Oh, we don't have it and may not be getting more.'" I looked over at Tina, sitting down beside where I was standing and she mouthed to Susan "WOW!" twice. I thought, 'don't I have a right to be pissed if I wasted my Sat. here for 2 hrs and what I want isn't marked on the tag that it's NOT available?' I bent down to her and asked her, "Is there a problem?!" I think her doing that was my biggest issue, I was def pissed after that. It's not like I screamed or yelled, I just stated a fact. If a store DOES NOT have something, the tag should say so so I can eliminate it. Monday comes and goes, I hear nothing so I call Jack today, and he said he was off yesterday....guess he didn't know that on Sat. and my piece will be available in 4 months. No thanks. So, even tho I loved their furniture, I won't be back. Horrible first experience, and I hate that. :( read more

Simply the Worst customer service experience with owner Tom Matter of our lives! Research confirm that our experience is not isolated. He was manipulative and condescending to such extent we had no choice but to ask him to stop all accusations and leave our home. Problem and resolution simple:: A dual electric recliner of which one side is defective; 6 months old with a 1 yr mfg warranty in need of repair and/or replacement. However, Mr. Matter's agenda is clear: Refuse to acknowledge a mechanical problem with the chair to avoid having to repair or replace. Matter Bros holds the warranty paperwork so we cannot get it evaluation or repaired under warranty elsewhere. As the chair is under warranty (or so we believe) we are perplexed why this is an issue unless Matter Bros is in financial ruin. Mr. Matter used skillful tactics to berate us. He admitted he was backpeddling on the expertise of his own tech with 25 yrs of loyal service. Tech came to the home day prior and admitted chair s/b replaced. He placed tech in a no win situation and stated to us his pay would be docked for his opinion that the recliner should be replaced. So much for 25 yrs experience and loyalty! Mr Matter' he accused us of lying on several occasions. He asked if we work, I do (for the media) however my wife, who is a wheelchair user and 80lbs does not. It is her "side" that is broken. He then used this tactic He then used this to wife, who is a wheelchair We sit on it only to watch TV in the evening. However he flatly stated "you are lying, you sit in this chair more than 3 hours per day" We have no recourse but to contact an agency to resolve the issue. We will seek Matter Bros release copies of warranty information to us. arrange and pay for an independent evaluation of the chair's defect without his presence. Based upon the independent evaluation, repair or replace the chair. That is fair and due process. That is professional, customer service That will likely not uphold his reputation. Bought a beautiful EXPENSIVE leather sectional here 5 years ago and it is literally a mess. Only my husband and I in our home and no pets. Coming apart, shredding like someone took a razor blade to it. Called about 9 months ago to complain and they said "sorry we can recommend someone you can hire to reupholster it", No thanks Matter Brothers, think I will use this President's weekend to shop elsewhere and get something that lasts with a company that stands behind what they sell. We recently purchased a bedroom set and had it was delivered by Matter Brothers. The two drivers that delivered the bedroom set were very inexperienced and needed my help to complete the set up. They used my power screwdriver since theirs had no power . They damaged the mirror, so another one had to be ordered. (Found out later that one had not been ordered, the ticket had already been labeled as completed.) During this process, both drivers asked if they could use my bathroom. I reluctantly said "Yes"(didn't want an uncomfortable situation). After the drivers had left I checked the bathroom and noticed that a 14k gold chain was missing , I had left it on the sink. When I allowed them to use the bathroom, I didn't even think about my jewelry in the bathroom. I called Matter Brothers the next morning and the warehouse supervisor confronted the drivers. As expected, they denied taking the gold chain.. Corporate Matter Brothers told me it was my word against theirs. However , they claimed they did write them up for using a customer's bathroom. (what a joke!) The conclusion to this comment is : There is at least one criminal working for the Matter Brothers delivery team in Pinellas county. Does Matter Brothers do background checks on their employees ? I will never deal with Matter Brothers again. read more

Thankfully Matter Brothers has now hired a Customer Service Manager (Rachel) who came to the rescue and we finally got the issue resolved. The cabinet was fixed and looks new (cannot even tell where the damaged area was). They picked up the cabinet, repaired it and returned it promptly all within a week! She even agreed to waive the initial delivery fee when the damaged merchandise was delivered. Wish she was employed with them in 2018 too,but better late than never. read more

My husband and I have been customers of Matter Brothers for years and I have always had positive experiences. Last week my husband had a tramatic accident requiring him to have an extensive surgery and be non weight bearing status for 2-3 months. I was in search of a recliner that could help him tolerate this time. I found a chair that was no only functional beautiful an a lift chair as well. They assured me it could be delivered the day he was coming home. The delivery man Rafael went above and beyond for me so much as to thank me for taking such good care of my husband and for purchasing such a nice chair to make him comfortable. We spoke a long while and I became teary because the stress of the situation had been over whelming. I can't say enough about this man who didn't know me yet took the time to actually care about how I was feeling and even followed up via text today to check on me. In a world we we are quick to criticize and look the other way this man Rafael was a real life angel on earth. He went above and beyond customer service. Sectional is taking took longer than quoted, poor ineffective communication...and honestly I am not even looking forward to getting my sectional from this vendor. We recently replaced our 15 year old Natuzzi sofa, love seat and recliner with $12,000 worth of Hooker sofa, love seat, chair and ottoman from Matter Bros. In Tarpon Springs. Since Matter Bros. Didn't have the furniture in stock it had to be order from the factory. The Salesperson, Susan, did give us the literature for the furniture which clearly stated there was bonded fiber padding on the sides and back. After waiting several weeks for the furniture to be delivered it did not have the padding. We immediately called our salesperson who agreed that it wasn't right and would check on it. 2 days later we had to call back as Susan had failed to get back with us. Susan then told us we would have to go through 'Service' which is actually an oxymoron. Service sent out a gentleman who's full intent was to convince us nothing was wrong. He 'inspected' the furniture and proclaimed it was manufactured correctly. In his 'inspection' he also failed to find, what appears to be, a 4" rectangle patch on the sofa and four 1" circular patches on the chair. We then talked to the manager who asked "Well, what do you want us to do about it?" We asked for it to be returned so we could deselect. We were then informed that this was a special order and we signed the paper for it. I'm not sure how ordering a stock item is 'Special Order' but that's what we were told. We asked to speak to the service manager's supervisor and were directed to Tom Matter. Tom listened to our complaint and assured us he would get back with us. That was over 4 weeks ago and we've not heard a word. We still have $12,000 worth if furniture in our living room, with the tags still on the pieces, that has never been sat on. We are using $20 lawn chairs instead. Thanks Matter Bros.! If you need furniture you might want to find a company that has good, or any, Customer Service. Beautiful selection of Coastal Florida furniture and decor! Prices are high, but quality is good and I think worth the money. We had been there three times and had the same rude and impatient salesperson named Tina. Terrible customer service and personality, she acted as if she didn't have time for us if we weren't going to buy anything. Needed to go back a few times because we needed measurements and she became more calloused each time. Finally when we were about to buy, we noticed a crack on one of the tables - which I wasn't going to buy in that condition- and she acted like it was no big deal, saying it was "natural" - yeah right- we all want cracks in the wood of a table top!!-NOT. She pulled attitude with us saying NOW she would have to order it!! I got ticked off and walked out! We moved here a few months ago into a 3600+ sq foot home and need a lot of furniture for it, but we won't get getting any of it at this location! - not with a rude and disrespectful employee like that- I'll spend my money where I am treated like a customer and not like a inconvenience ! We have purchased multiple pieces from Matter Brothers in Tarpon Springs where we had good experiences for the most part, but when we transferred our business to the Pinellas Park store after a move to St. Petersburg we found that the quality of the furniture had deteriorated and, never having needed customer service previously, learned that their customer service is abysmal. We have had 2 of our last 3 purchases that needed to be repaired within days and months of purchase. One was a reclining chair that was delivered with a bent frame. It took almost 2 months for them to accept it as a return with store credit. The second was a battery-operated reclining sofa where the motor on one side burned out within 6 months of purchase. It takes 4-6 days for someone from their service department to call you to schedule an appointment, then another period of time to decide how the problem will be repaired. Store personnel don't like to follow up on problems post-sale and, with the exception of the store manager, are surly when contacted. The service technicians are very friendly, but the amount of time it takes to arrive at a decision can be tiresome and irritating. I suggest taking your business elsewhere. read more
