What a nice place to shop for plants, shrubs and flowers. These folks were very helpful and David was extremely knowledgable. I know you can shop cheaper at box stores but there is something about people that sell plants that KNOW plants and that weren't just hired to greet you and run a cash register. Bought two palm trees and two plants and was pleased with the price being as good if not better than other small nurseries in the area. I personally prefer a little more service and expertise than cheap when I am making decisions and that's what they offer here. BUYER BE WARE On 12/7/21 Chris Walker from DK Farm & Nursery came out and we reviewed the job together I had multiple things needed to be done. moving, relaying installing new pavers in my back yard, build up side yard with top soil and relaying pavers, trim a hedge, remove 2 over grown Muhly grasses and replace with new 2 Muhly grasses, install a 60' Rubbermaid boarder along beds, remove some yard waste and cut a palm frond that was hitting the roof. I already had the boarder so he instructed me to purchase 6 additional pavers, which l didn't need, and he would supply the grasses and top soil. He was a very personal young man, who assured me that he would personally make sure that the job went right. He sent me an estimate of, $565.64 with only the total for labor without the jobs line itemed out, beyond the pavers. I assumed it was because it was done on his phone it limited him for characters. I realize now that was my mistake, that is give Chris the benefit of the doubt, as we had a long conversation about the project, and how much problems that I was having finding reliable and competent service people/companies. The next day Chris arrived with another young man, who he introduced as Corey and together we went over what the plan was for the boarder and pavers. Right off the bat I knew something was amiss as Chris brought no tools to do the job and used my shovel, sledge hammer, yard clippers, etc., He continually asked me to look at the work and each time I had to come up with suggestions as to what would be better. We came to a stand still as Chris told me he would not remove the dirt that was needed in order to allow the pavers to be recessed into the ground by the board of the patio. Also, he was unable to cut any pavers as he had no tools to do so, to allow for any type of professional finish to the install, see image. Five of the pavers on the pathway along the back yard are not filled in and or not level, so they rock. After 3 or 4 attempts at the side yard install the layout of pavers was finally OK, though the ground was left uneven with multiple small rocks left all over the area. The removal and reinstall of the new grasses were fine. In general, my property was left in a muddy, dis-shoveled mess. During the 2 hours Chris and Corey were here, Corey had continually made glib comments around me. Which I found highly unprofessional for someone on a job site. One of his comments was directed at me personally about my age. I 'm a single older female, and didn't feel comfortable being around the two young men any longer. I was rather confused as to why a service person would be so unprofessional on a job, only to find out that he didn't work for DK but was Chris's personal friend, who is here visiting from Kissimmee. The hedges and fronds were never cut and I didn't bring it up as by this point, I had had enough of Chris and Corey and just wanted them to leave by home. I gave them a check and they left. Beyond the inappropriate comments I was worried that I would be liable for Corey not being a paid employee of DK's if anything were to happen. After they left, I called Chris and told him that I was very unhappy with his work and that he needed to come back and fix it. He wanted to come right back, but I didn't want to have to deal with Corey again so I told him that I would get back to him with other time to come back. I also mentioned about the him not taking care of the hedge or palm frond, he argued with me that that wasn't part of the job as it wasn't listed on the estimate. I pointed out neither was the boarder, or grass install, so how was he able to use the estimate as the point of truth. He became irritated and told me that he did that as a favor, and not part of the job. He did do one thing as gratis, he cut down a small 3 branched planted and placed a couple of pavers for a place for outside trash can. I when back out found even more issues with job, called him back and he wouldn't pick up. I then realized that I was pretty much screwed so I left a message that I canceled the payment and want an adjustment to my bill. The next day I spoke with David Koning the owner the next day, who basically told me that he didn't believe me but Chris that all other labor was a favor i.e., boarder install and install of grasses. I told him that I didn't want Chris back out as he doesn't know what he is doing and I didn't want to have to deal with him and his either lack of knowledge or work ethic again, I would be happy to settled the bill at a reduced payment of $250.00, as I will have to hire someone else to fix the pavers. But he said that I was bound to the signed estimate, also that anyone who showed up to a job was covered under DK and not the home owner and that he was doubtful that I felt intimidated and was just using as an excuse. This is a confusing place. Let's start with the signage- the sign doesn't match the name of the business ( see images for details). Nothing is priced. It seems as though pricing is quite fluid. I can't imagine how difficult it is for employees who work here to know what the price is or how to sell the plants. The selection is very hit and miss. We went to the "big box" nursery that has rows and rows of everything you can imagine but not even one person who could help us choose the right flowers, shrubs and tree we were looking for. We must have spent more than a half hour walking aimlessly looking at labels. Not here. It may look like there is not much of a selection but don't be fooled by that. I give them a 0. I had them do xeriscape in my backyard. It is extremely unlevel and I have a lot of work to do to fix it. They were supposed to move sprinkler heads which they did not do so now my sprinkler heads are underneath my new deck. When he came to refund the money for not moving the sprinkler heads I gave them another chance to pull weeds and mulch in my front yard. I made it clear I wanted the weeds pulled from The Roots. That did not happen either. I can still see Vines growing through my plants. Which I can post pictures of. In the front area by the front of my house they tossed the mulch in and now there is malch all over the front of my house and on my window sills. Whatever months they had left from the job they threw into my front garden area over plants and did not even spread it out. They never finished the job. We had a great experience when we bought 3 palm trees from them. One of our palm trees immediately started having issues and I sent pictures and communicated with DK landscaping though FB massager. I did all they told me to do, but it died. I was very disappointed to learn that they do not have any guarantee on their trees. We had landscaping done for a vacation home. That said we obviously aren't there in the summer. We just were back first time since it was done, what a total disaster!!!!!! They were so unprofessional during installation but let it go because they were young. We were not warned of invasive grasses. Our sod = grass is dead even though we watered per instructions. I already had been in the big box stores a number of times to get my garden started. When I walked into David's nursery my immediate sense was "My, but these are happy plants!" Silly, I know. We purchased beautiful, healthy plants and palms from DK and had our lawn-care person install them in the front of our home a year ago. This week our next project, grading the slope of the hill in the backyard and installing sod. I didn't know that this was an area of expertise that DK had, until I pulled into his business and saw a bobcat, dump-truck and various other peices of equipment. He came over & reviewed his plan and gave us a quote. DK is an excellent communicator and is very customer oriented. He and his team were on time and did an outstanding job. This is strictly for their landscaping work. My fiancé met with David to discuss final grading and swales at our new construction house. The day they arrived they asked me about the swale depths, etc. I don't know, you're the landscaper! My fiancé came home from work to go over with him and crew. When nearly complete I ask why front yard wasn't touched and how rain would not again enter our garage as it had previously due to poor grading- which is why we hired landscapers to regrade- and David said he was only here to do swales. What? I read his contract he sent to my fiancé and it did say just swales and removing dirt. So even though they discussed all of this, the quote was for only swales. Why would a landscape company go to a house and perform only some of the necessary work for rain removal? Why wouldn't you maybe charge a little bit more and perform ALL the work necessary for proper grading? This makes absolutely no sense and clearly there was a breakdown in communication or intentional misleading and quoting on his part. After paying, David promised the swales would meet inspection and that he's done them before. Guess what, I spoke with City of St Petersburg building official the next day, and he said swales weren't necessary in my area but optional. So clearly this guy has no freaking idea about swales and the city official told me they needed to be better pitched in order for water to actually leave the property. These were literally two trenches on each side of lot dying into the sidewalk and going where? He said by the time a swale meets the sidewalk, they should be about level with sidewalk. Look, we hired them for their expertise and clearly they have none. We will be filling in the swales because they look ridiculous and are ineffective. Hopefully there's enough dirt from re-grading the yard with REAL landscapers. Buy a plant from them, that's really only what they're good for. read more

I am a gardener with years of experience but needed help due to back problems. I simply asked David to remove lawn/weeds and to prep the beds for new planting of flowers and trees. They have no idea how to do this as proven by the fact that he charged a riduclous $2,500 and still have weeds and grass growing. He had no idea how to clear a lawn, cut my cable/phone/internet wires in two places, used inferior products such as weed killer that was so watered down it did not work, gave me used weed mat and had no idea that you have to til soil and level it and rake in fertiliser before planting- he actually had to ask me how and what to do!
