The letter stated due to "clinical circumstance" they think we would be best served somewhere else. Clinical=treatment so I called to ask what treatment they were incapable of doing so I could let the future dentist know. Of course, the reply was "there isn't anything we are unable to do". So ...do I have any no call-no shows on appointments or have an outstanding bill? (because that's understandable). Nope I had two appointments that I showed up to on time and I had no money owed. This was all over me not communicating with them over a service they were going to do in the future. My autistic son needs anesthesia for treatment which hundreds of dollars that is due up front. The treatment he needed was not urgent or hurting him, so I told the dentist and hygienist this was unfortunately not something I could do immediately. So the dismissal reason was not updating them about a procedure that I told them I would have to contact them about it at a later date. Do they have a right to be frustrated/annoyed? Sure. But no one is required to keep you updated on their life circumstances in relation to a dental procedure. The amount of entitlement and self-importance it takes to create a policy around it is astounding. SUGGESTION. If they had said since its been 90days, we have to schedule another checkup because we don't want to do a treatment unless we are fully knowledgeable of the current condition, I could totally understand that, and that would sound like caring service. I have never had a medical/dental professional throw a fit over me not following up. I have, however, had them explain additional services were required because the information isn't as current as they would like, but never straight refusal of service. The tactic on the letter, pretending that this is in the patient's best interest, is supposed to be a tactic used after the consumer has proven they will waste time or fight about the worth of business and its services. Ie. a couple of no-call no shows, or outstanding bill. In this case I fail to see where their damages are over three phone calls in November and one letter in January. All of these were technically not required and are usually a courtesy. I can't imagine how your business has made people feel and the guilt or shame they must feel after being dismissed. If they don't contact you, maybe it's because they are STRUGGLING. Maybe it's because they are carrying such a huge load, that many things are falling through the cracks. It's lacks so much care and empathy on your part, and you would add to that burden because they didn't get in touch with you and explain what was going on in their lives? Or have to explain to you when they could afford the service or when they could actually schedule it? Both bold and wrong of you. My son was sent to you SPECIFICALLY because of his special needs. It hurts me for him that you would make a choice like this, because I didn't respond in your timeframe. You might be inconveniencing me, but really you punished him. You didn't do this to me, you did this to my 5 year old son. Obviously we will find another provider, and I'm glad I got this early on so I didn't invest time and money in your business. I am not angry and I respect that your business has the right to run things your way. What I don't like that you present your business as kind and caring when there is no way a business who was those things would make this a policy. Three months is a flash in a parent's busy life, and people get sent to you for specialized care. Non-communication is not about you. Decentralize your business in people's life.

In order to avoid him having to take antibiotics until then, I frantically called around trying to find a dentist that could see him ASAP to get it pulled. After speaking to a few different places, I decided to take my son here since they were accommodating enough to see him the quickest. They informed me he would first need an exam by the dentist to see what work needed to be done, which was fine by me. While there he talked about a lot more extensive work that needed to be done including another tooth pulled, baby root canal, and a crown (all of which was never mentioned by his regular dentist). They said he could come in the next morning to get the infected tooth pulled for which I was so grateful to get it taken care of. Signed off on the treatment plan which again stated that the infected tooth was going to be pulled first and the rest of the dental work (extra tooth pulled, baby root canal) would be done at a later date. My husband had to work the day of my son's extraction and since I had a baby I couldn't go back there with my son. But he assured me he was fine to go back by himself. Tooth pulled and we headed home, only for my husband to mention later that day "I thought the infected tooth was on the other side?"....... Yes, yes it was..... The infected tooth was still in his mouth... After finally getting a hold of the receptionist I asked her for some clarification as to why they did not pull my sons infected tooth, the one they said they would, the one I specifically came there for in the first place, the one they had listed on the treatment plan. She spoke to the dentist and this is where the gaslighting began... she said it was not a mistake that he made a judgement call based upon his expertise, and that he decided to pull the other tooth (which just had a larger cavity mind you) because he wanted to get that root canal taken care of before it became infected. And that if it became infected he would've had to have had 3 teeth pulled.... So you're telling me that they're over here just pulling teeth willy nilly when they get infected instead of the first line of defense which would be a baby root canal, which spoiler alert is what you were going to be doing regardless? Imagine taking your child to the doctor for an infected cut on his leg, only for him to come into the waiting room with a bandage on his arm instead. The doctor tells you he noticed the infected cut on his leg but wanted to take care of the cut on his arm first because of the "potential" of it becoming infected, and to come back in a few weeks and he will take care of the infected cut on the leg. That is essentially what happened in this case, literally absurd right? So now my neurodivergent son had to take antibiotics which again isn't easy for him and I wanted to avoid. It required a doctors visit just to get the script changed to chewables because he can't take liquid form. All of this could've been avoided had this dentist just PULLED THE INFECTED TOOTH!

The coin machines at the end are great. Thank you for making a scary day much easier for our girl! Today was our first visit and consult for our 2 little ones, ages 5 and 2. I was very impressed by how calm the kids were through the process thanks to very sweet, patient staff and dentists. It was scary for the 5 year old to learn that she would need a treatment, but overall, it was a very positive experience for both of them. The fun, kid friendly atmosphere was great and I wish I had this kind of dentist as a kid!

My girls first appointment went well. filled one cavity in one child and cleaned boths girls' teeth. They told me my older daughter would need a root canal on an adult tooth. She was, I believe, 10 at the time. They do not refer out but they gave me a referral to take to an endodontist of my choice. I tried to take her to Salida Surgery but they refused to sedate for a root canal. I ended up having to call several dentists. She had to see and adult endodontist because it was ana adult tooth and NO one would see her. Finally found a place outside my area in the Easy Bay. The total for her sedation and root canal came out to nearly $5000 out of pocket. I paid it. I took my daughter back in for her 6th month check up and the dentist was now saying she needed 2 more root canals. It makes no sense that they did not catch this before or that her endodontist didnt catch it less than 6 months later. I decided to take my girls to Dr. Filbruns office, where I go. The denitst did a full Xray of my childs mouth and said she might possibly need 1 root canal but we might be able to just do a regular filling if its not too deep. If it is too deep we can refer her out immediately. 1 possible root canal. Not 2 definite root canals. She also didnt understand how they would have missed it if it was only 6 months earlier that she had been suggested the first. Its ridiculous that doctors like this one take advantage of the welfare system and the ignorance of their patience or their patient's parents. They are entrusted to be honest but this is not honesty. And absolute piracy. Any typical welfare parents would have just did what the doctor said to do and put their kids in unnecessary pain because they don't have to fork out the money or lose time at work. What is sad is all welfare dentists treat their patients like this. They add on unnecessary work because they know Medi-Cal will pay it out. They are greedy. Had I not got a second opinion, i would be looking at another $6k out if my pocket, at least. Instead, It might be as much as only $300. $150 for filling and $150 more if she needs the root canal after all. And my dentist has someone they can refer her out to, unlike Children's Choice.

They have cancelled my children's appointments multiple times in a row which is soooo frustrating. It's funny because they send text messages reminders after you schedule an appointment stating that if the patient cancels less than 24 hours in advanced they are subject to a $50 fee. One of the last times they cancelled on me I asked the receptionist if I could get my $50 since the dentist cancelled on us last minute and she just laughed (obviously I was joking, but when they cancel/ reschedule on us multiple times it's super frustrating). I guess they think that only their time is valuable and not the time of their patients. Sorry, but there are plenty of other dental offices in town that might value our time more.
