I've used Matthew Licata Painting two times now, and each time, Matt did an amazing job repairing the drywall and then painting it afterwards with matching paint such that I can't tell that there used to be a hole there. I was first recommended to Matt's company by Morrison Electric, who had to cut a large piece of drywall out to install an updated electrical panel in my condo. I hired Matt to: 1) repair/paint the drywall around the electric panel, and 2) repair/paint drywall in the shower area that had visibly suffered water damage over the years. At short notice, Matt was able to fit me in on a Saturday to repair both areas at a flat rate, and I was completely satisfied with the results. The second time I used Matt's services was after upgrading my shower. The plumber had to cut a hole in the wall of the guest room behind the shower to get to the shower pipes, and this left a large 13" x 18" hole in the wall. With guests coming the next week, I needed to get the hole patched and painted. With my busy work schedule, I left Matt the keys to my place so that he could let himself him and do the work. By the time I got home, the hole was patched and painted, and the area was clean. I couldn't have been more pleased with the results! I'm pretty compulsive about things, so I had six people come out to my residence for estimates on painting the exterior. Some had fancy handouts. Some measured the house. Some did not. Some gave me boilerplate answers on how they would paint the house. Others just kept asking me what I wanted instead of giving me a professional opinion. They all felt more like salespeople than painters. Matt was the first person to show up to my house dressed like a painter. He also spent close to an hour walking around the house pointing out things to consider. He had good suggestions on ways to clean up the window trim and other areas I hadn't considered to make sure everything looked clean when I was done--pointing out anything not detailed would look crappy after a new paint job. He also had smart ideas nobody else did like painting the wood siding eggshell instead of flat both for aesthetics and to protect from grubby children's hands. His estimate was not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. He promised me he provided a level of prep work and detail other painters do not. After hiring him and his crew for the job, I am definitely inclined to agree. Matt and his team showed up early and waited on the sidewalk to ring the bell at exactly 8AM. Two, three, or four people worked long days for five days to complete the job--as promised--by the end of the day Friday. While other painters were going to provide two people for three or four days, Matt provided far more man hours for the money--and it shows in the results. The level of prep they did to the house makes the final product really sparkle. Our door is now painted a bright yellow, and I can assure you the door was sanded and smoothed over for hours before getting its paint. The entire wood siding of our house was sanded, caulked, and smoothed before being painted. And, then Matt gave his team more notes, and they went back and caulked and sanded again. They also made some cool adjustments as they went. We were going to paint the flashing (the border between the roof and the trim) the same color as the trim, but when they started, they thought making it black to blend in the roof was better. It was a fantastic idea, and it really looks great. It's also worth notice Matt and his entire crew are friendly, personable, and clean up after themselves nicely at the end of each day. They were super nice to my barky dog, and they let my six year old shoot the wall with the spray gun. My wife and I were home most of the time they were working, and they were all great guys. They even helped us move all the junk away from the house that we were supposed to before they got there without complaining. And even helped move it back at the end. After all was said and done, we noticed a couple small oversprayed areas and asked Matt to come back and fix them. I came home to Matt painting and touching up the entire front of my house. And, he then repainted all of the flashing on the back of the house so the touched up area wouldn't be at all noticeable. That's the level of detail he put into our entire project. As he left, he offered to come back anytime if we noticed any other issues down the road or as the siding expands/contracts and affects the paint. He was able to completely paint the whole 2-bedroom 2-bathroom condo in 2 days, including laundry closet doors, 4 interior doors, the back of front door, stair risers, and the stair handrail! Matt and his crew did an excellent job repainting our kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinets, and fireplace. At the initial inspection and estimate, Matt asked a lot of questions about what we would want done and how he would do it, which I liked. There were no surprises at the end, everything was done exactly how we requested. He also gave some great advice about how things could be done to get the best result. The cabinets that were painted were old (~30 years), and the interiors looked pretty bad. Matt and his crew were able to make everything look new. Amazing what some paint and bondo can do, when applied by skilled professionals. We were moving in to a new place and wanted to get the painting done before our move. Matt was able to work with our schedule and get everything done in time. He also stuck to his initial estimate despite some extra items popping up along the way (like painting a couple of walls in the kitchen), and Matt made sure to run everything by me when those things did come up. We've used this company twice now and have had great results each time. They do an excellent job at protecting you stuff... covering it or even removing it from the room. They also move it all back when done. There is also a great attention to detail and consideration for the customer. For example, before painting, they asked which nails holes we wanted to keep (for hanging things back on the wall after painting). But most importantly they do a great job and Matt cares about his craftsmanship. He was not happy with the single coat and the coverage so he stayed past the agreed upon time period and gave it a second coat. Very impressive. I used Matt Licata to paint once before, when he did a few walls of my old place that I wanted to spruce up before listing it for sale. This time I hired him to paint almost my entire new place, which needed a lot more work, some of it complicated. It included painting 9 doors and door frames, which was difficult because they were painted a darker color and I wanted semi-gloss ultra white. Matt and his crew were great - they painted about 1,000 square feet of space, including ceilings, in just two days, and did multiple coats as needed to make sure the end result looked great. Well, they didn't disappoint as the open plan living/dining room ended up looking like an art gallery. The result was great, the work was neat, they cleaned up after themselves, and the quote included the cost of the paint and all materials, including expensive high ultra-high quality semi-gloss paint used on the doors and trim. I have hired Matt Licata twice this year because the quality of his work is so good. I have a 1920s wood house which I'm restoring room-by-room. Matt's team has now finished upgrading 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. Flaking ceilings were scraped, peeling wood moldings and window frames were sanded, and borders between wallpaper and moldings were caulked. Matt used oil-based paint on all wood trim because it has a rich effect and lasts for years. His team is polite, efficient, skilled, and thorough. My rooms look lovely. **No professional service was performed. Review based only on customer relations. I called Matt 15 minutes after he was supposed to show up at my house to provide an estimate. He had totally spaced on the appointment... He did offer to come right away but would have taken another 30 minutes and I was on my lunch break. He then went on to ask me if I were getting multiple bids (yes I was) and that he would likely come in much higher because of his superior quality of workmanship. He said he usually does high end projects, pays his workers $25/hr, blah blah blah. Mind you, he knew nothing of my situation, my home, the size of the job, etc. I actually felt insulted by the manner in which he seemed to presume I was looking to go with a sub-par contractor -- whoever gave me the lowest bid. I ended the call by letting him know we would not be a good match and that I would expect such a high-end contractor to meet (or at least call to re-schedule) their appointments. This guy was full of excuses and very unprofessional. Update: Matt has followed up and did do everything he could to try and remedy the situation. Perhaps my experience was a unique one, and others will have an entirely different (and positive) working relationship with this company. read more

I am a repeat customer of Matt. I have had Matt and his crew come out on several occasions now whenever we have a painting job. We had an old wall heater removed (by someone else ) and it left a large hole in the inside and outside of the house . So I needed the drywall and the outside stucco repaired and painted . We were able to set-up a time the same week for him to come give us a bid and while he wasn't the least expensive out of the three that we recieved I could tell that the quality of his team's work would be worth the extra money.
