I had a colonoscopy on Thursday morning at 6:30am, by 10am, I had a call from Dr. Schutzel's office, had appointment for the next day! Really liked Dr. Schultzel. He covered everything, answered all my questions, and left me feeling completely confident in my surgery. Had surgery on Monday, and was home by Wednesday! I did not even need any pain medication. By Friday, I was feeling back to normal. His staff, especially Emily, who coordinated everything for me, were excellent. The staff at the hospital took excellent care of me. I went into surgery for a mass removal and suspected ovarian cancer. Turned out the mass was colon cancer. Dr schultzel and his team were called in and he literally saved my life! The follow up care from he and his staff in the hospital was amazing and he continues to provide outstanding care post op. I spent the last year seeing Dr. Schultzel for my anal fistula, Seton procedure and my hemorrhoids. Really never expected I would be 100% recovered after that year. My husband went to this doctor for a consultation for a medical issue and left being told he needed "urgent surgery" no question about it. We were stunned and he was quite worried. I suggested we get a second opinion, so off to another surgeon we went (in San Diego) who said "in no world is your case surgical" and he offered another solution. He also asked when my husband had seen Dr. Schultzel, it had been four days. We are so grateful for the second opinion or else my husband would have had an unnecessary and very painful surgery. I was diagnosed with bi-lateral inguinal hernias earlier this year, and after doing some research chose Dr Schultzel to do the surgery. Reasons for this decision was that the success rate and recovery time are the best using robotic surgery, and when considering robotic surgery, Dr Schultzel is the best - he has lots of experience and nothing but positive reviews. Once we got to the surgery there was also a small 3rd hernia starting at the belly button, but since that's where they make one of their incisions it was not an issue to add it to the procedure at the last minute. Scheduling went perfect, no issues with the office visits, and no issues with billing. The repair must have been done bullet proof, as I ended up with a terrible chest cold 3 days after surgery that had me coughing non stop for 4 days - very uncomfortable after abdominal surgery, but no damage done! If you are considering Dr. Schultzel for an upcoming surgery my recommendation would be to stop considering and book a consultation. read more

Dr Schultzel and his staff (especially Addison and Rumi) are the best! I was diagnosed with cancer and as a "youngish" woman w children it was devastating. From the time of the colonoscopy to treatment was so fast (within two weeks!) I call Dr Schultzel "the quarterback". He knew exactly what I needed to do, what oncologist and radiologist to see, and his staff arranged everything. Im now through with chemo (CCare is the best!). Next is radiation therapy and surgery. It took me a long time to write this review. No words I write can share my feelings and thoughts on Dr. Schultzel, Dr. Burgess, Emily, and staff. Angels on earth- they saved my life. The care, compassion, patient importance, partnered with the surgical genius of Dr. Schultzel makes him a rare find in the medical field. I am confident that I would not be here today to write this review, had my path not crossed with Dr. Schultzel. I was hospitalized for 49 days under the care of multiple drs at Sharp Memorial in San Diego- all due to my OC based GI Dr's medical negligence. My second opinion with United Gastroenterologist in Murrieta saved me. Dr. Schultzel, Dr. Burgess, or nurse practitioner Alison visited me every single day, 7 days a week and monitored my situation closely even when surgery wasn't on my radar. They still visited me daily to monitor my progress and be there if I did need surgical intervention. Ultimately, I needed to have an emergency total colectomy to save my life. Overall, I have been operated on 4 times with Dr Schultzel and Burgess. All major surgeries and every one being done laparoscopically with minimal scarring. Had I seen any other dr I would have been cut open abdominally from top to bottom. His skill in the OR is unmatched in my opinion. Dr. Matthew Schultzel performs robotic surgeries that are easier to recover from than standard techniques. He has performed 3 surgeries on me, colorectal surgery, reversal surgery and also a gallbladder removal surgery. He will also do my hernia repair surgeries. He saved my life by removing a tennis ball sized tumor that had metastasized from ovarian cancer to my colon. 3 doctors told me I'd have to wear a colostomy bag for life, but because of his skill I didn't have to. The other surgeon who was present during my colorectal surgery told me that Dr Shultzel is nothing less than genius in the way he performs minimally invasive surgeries.
