I had a Hiatal Hernia Repair with Dr.Francis Essien and I can tell you I am very happy with my surgery and Dr Essien. I have no acid reflux or burning anymore and this is after years of suffering and doctors telling me that my acid reflux wasn't being caused by my Hiatal Hernia. My husband had to have surgery on his neck and we couldn't be happier with this office and their staff. They were very thorough in the pre-op appointments and from the time we checked in until we checked out, everyone had a great attitude and demeanor. Beware of Dr.Craig Owen's !! Due to my insurance, I was sent to Craig Owen's. He appeared confidant to remove a Lipoma from my shoulder. It wasn't causing pain, but restriction of movement. No testing was done prior to scheduling the same day surgery. But very soon afterwards my right arm began to weaken, and dull aches began, still he decided no tests or physical therapy was needed. After 4 months of me continuing to complain that something isn't right, pain is increasing . He said "maybe you do need physical therapy ? My PCP referred me for a CT, that shows more lipoma in my arm that was never removed. And that's the nerve and ache of pain I've felt for 5 months! Hoping for a resolve with an Actual Surgeon that knows what he's doing, before any cutting is done!! read more

18 days ago I had an outpatient surgery with Dr. Atchinson. In 2 weeks I completed removing the stitches .. very painful. Later that day while at Costco I experienced a flood of serous fluid running down my leg. I phoned a left a vm and eventually Cindy phoned. Very poor aftercare and very poor instructions. I had breast cancer surgery with Dr. Johnsen and I can't say enough good things!! She was very professional and thorough when I had my consultation with her and then the surgery went right according to plan as she mentioned in our prior meeting. I had very little pain afterward and did not even need the pain medicine. My follow-up appointment with her was just as professional and thorough. During the surgery she took out 3 lymph nodes to test which all came back negative for cancer. I'll be following up with my oncologist but would not hesitate to see Dr. Johnsen again for any needed surgery! She's the best and I'm so grateful for her! read more

Dr Owen's did my laparoscopic cholecystectomy and he did a great job. The team was incredible too, specifically my pre-op and post-op nurse. I can't remember what her name was unfortunately but she was the sweetest woman ever and took such good care of me. I'm a little embarrassed because I was so out of it with the anesthesia that I could barely move my jaw and I think I was arguing with her about getting up and leaving so I really hope she reads this because I am so sorry and you are genuinely the nicest nurse ever! Literally made for the job! And thank you for helping me get my necklace back when it fell off. I knew better than to wear it in but I was nervous and I'm so grateful to you for getting it back to me. The front desk lady was also so sweet to me. With dr Owens, I saw some negative reviews about him and got a little nervous to be honest but I kind of think he's just misunderstood. He's got a very dry sense of humor but he's a nice man and a very good surgeon (in my very minor surgical experience. If you're having something more serious done, I can't speak on that). He told me that even though I've only had a severe gallstone attack once (when I discovered I have stones) that I should get it removed anyway because it will happen again and it can be risky. Plus, I have insurance right now. He chatted with me a bit about my school as I'm an MRI student and came in wearing my scrubs. When I got to the surgery center, everyone that would be working on me came to talk to me before the surgery and let me ask questions. I also went from waiting room to operating room in about 45 minutes I believe. Very quick and I'm very grateful I wasn't left nervous for a long time. Also, they let me get a photo of my gallbladder when it was out. Not important but I was thrilled. I don't think I should post it here because I mean, it is still an organ. For anyone getting a laparoscopic cholecystectomy since there are no specific reviews on it: I was glued shut and my 4 incisions, healed up very well. I have my follow up in a couple days to check in but the pain was minimal and the cuts now look like gnarly cat scratches that are healing. The glue is hanging on for dear life though. They use CO2 gas to inflate your abdomen so they do warn you of gas pain that can't really be resolved by the pain killers and that's pretty unpleasant. My shoulder hurt for a few days post-op but a rotation of heating pads and ice packs helped a lot. My incisions didn't really hurt much. They itch a little now that they're healing and the top one over my stomach would hurt a bit here and there. Also, the anesthesia is rough! I woke up and could barely move. I thought I've experienced anesthesia but this was definitely the deeper sleep the anesthesiologist mentioned. Anyway, overall I was sore for a few days and I slept a lot but I felt almost perfect within a week. read more

I had a procedure by Dr Tito Gorski in February 2026. I have spent a total of approximately 12 minutes in consultation, pre op and post op actually SPEAKING with him. Post op, I've been having a multitude of pain issues for over a month and have been to the hospital multiple times over it. When I called their office, I was advised that it was "normal healing pain" (10/10 out of nowhere 4 weeks post op??) and to "just work through it myself". Upon my THIRD trip to the ER post op, I called their office AGAIN and was advised that he was on vacation for the entire month of March and that he left NO OTHER SURGEONS in charge of his patients who recently had surgery with him. They paged him and called him and he completely ignored the call center and me, the patient. I've had many surgeries and have NEVER experienced something like this. Still having a lot of pain but now I realize nobody there, especially Dr Gorski, is going to do anything about it, let alone even TALK to me about it. Super disappointing. Guess it's time to find another surgeon to speak with. read more

Disappointed with Incompetence - Look Elsewhere We were referred to Murrieta Valley Surgery Associates for my son's suture removal after he received stitches in the ER for a through-and-through laceration on his lower lip. First Visit: We were assured that all sutures were removed. Second Visit: As the wound healed, we noticed a small thread still attached inside his lip. When we returned to have it removed, the surgeon dismissed it as a thread from a pillow--a completely absurd claim, given the obvious difference between a pillow thread and a surgical suture. What's more concerning is that they had my son's ER records on hand but didn't bother to check whether all five stitches had actually been removed. This level of carelessness is unacceptable. If they can't handle something as simple as removing stitches properly, how can they be trusted with an actual surgical procedure? This is a business, not quality medical care. Look elsewhere. PATIENTS BEWARE! I was referred to Mirrieta Valley for a surgical consult for a PD catheter placement. I met with Dr. Nouri and she proceeded to discuss the surgery. Due to my hereditary disease of polycystic kidney disease I explained to her that several of my previous doctors explained the possibility of needing a nephrectomy in order for me to undergo PD dyalisis treatment. I explained this to Dr. Nouri and upon a physical examination of my belly she said, "You'll be fine, you don't need a nephrectomy plus your kidneys are not inside the paratenium cavaity...." at no point in time did Dr. Nouri explain why I didn't need the procedure done as she has not seen any of my CT scans or imaging. After discussing the procedure and appointment with my nephrologist and nurse at the Murrieta dyalisis clinic they were confused that I didn't need a nephrectomy after all. When I explained how the appointment went they urged me not to go through with the surgery as I couldn't be told if I could have undergo PD Dyalisis with the size of my kidneys. I reached out to the hospital and let them know to have Dr. Nouri call me so I could explain my concern regarding the surgery. When she called me I voiced my concern and asked the question," How can you place a catheter in my belly if I am going to need a nephrectomy to make room for PD treatment. She replied" I just place the catheters I don't do nephrectomys. I'm just doing what is on the order." mind you 2 weeks earlier the same Dr said I don't need it because my kidneys are not in the paratinium cavaity. Zero communication and if I didn't raise concern this Dr could have put me and my already ailing health in a really bad place. If dealing with this doctor ensure you get a second opinion before proceeding forward with any treatment. The only reason why I gave this review 2 stars vs 1 is because the staff at inland valley was very professional and listened to my concerns. read more

Dr. Essien has been more wonderful! I recently was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was very nervous. I got in right away and he listened to me and explained everything. My questions were answered completely. I was reassured I would be well taken care of and I was. I had my tests done quickly and I had surgery. He is professional and very caring. He is concerned about his patients and wants the best for everyone. Appointments are easy to get and he will call you with results and to see how you're doing. Big shout out to Diane the surgery scheduling nurse. She's a master at scheduling, getting authorizations and so much more. She's so sweet and caring! My experience was great until I met the doctor. I had a referral to MVSC for my umbilical hernia. I was supposed to meet one doctor, but he doesn't come in Mondays and my appt was Tuesday with Dr Mac. I'm 67 yrs old about 25 lbs overweight and have smoked 1/4 pk per day (like an idiot) for the better part of life. This last wknd while visiting my kids in the high desert, I had excruciating abdominal pain and went to the local ER. My CT scan showed that my umbilical hernia was evident but not urgent however, they discovered I have 2nd hernia in my diaphragm. I had no idea. They wanted to admit me, but the pain did subside and I knew I had my appt at MVSC on Tuesday, so I came home Sunday. With no pain on Monday, I just rested and went to my appt Tues. The front office staff are all great, I think their back-office staff are all great and very friendly and personal...you know, down to earth human beings which is always best when going to the doctors, right? I had emailed my ER test and scan report to MVSC, and when Dr Mac came into the room, straight off the bat, she was really rigid, ZERO personality, somewhat condescending and during our consultation she said, umbilical should be fixed, but not urgent but the diaphragm should be repaired soon. And then added, " I DO NOT DO SURGERY ON OVERWEIGHT PEOPLE OR SMOKERS. (Ok fair enough) but to me, if my hernias were fairly urgent, she'd offer some type of action plan for me. But instead, she was extreeeeemly judgmental, arrogant as hell, and really seemed like she thought she was on all high. I asked her, is it a medical risk or is you not treating someone overweight who smokes a personal choice? And she replied, PERSONAL CHOICE. And then she added smokers tend to take long to heal. (Ok, fair enough) I asked if I could get a 2nd opinion within the office, and she said yes. But one of the surgeons on staff who does both types of repairs doesn't work on smokers and overweight folks either. (There was no offer of, stop smoking for a month, lost 5 to 10 pounds and let's schedule you for surgery). So I finally said, You're being honest with me so I will be in kind... I've had 5 surgeries in my life and I heal like that, bam! I heal very fast, period. You Dr Mac, are rude, you're arrogant, you have NO bedside manner whatsoever, you may be very good at your qualifications, but you're a horrible doctor to patient mutual respect for another human being. And as her and her intern (wonderful) and her gal that takes all the notes medical scribe walked out I told her, frankly, You have a stick up your ass that's bigger than you and your ego. I'm typically easy going and a people person, but this little conceded woman with her monster ego were THE WORST I've seen in my 67 yrs of life. Thankfully, the front desk and one gal in particular Cindy were compassionate and scheduled an appointment with Dr Owen for next week. My primary care physician referred me to MVSA to address my double hernia. I was assigned to Dr. Nouri. I'm so grateful for the outstanding care and concern I received from Dr. Nouri and her scheduler, Linda. Hernias are a routine procedure for many, but it doesn't feel routine when you're the one having it! Dr. Nouri explained what I had and the recommended procedure she would use to take care of it. She is direct and professional which I really appreciated. As I got to know her better, both at her office and then at the medical center where I had the procedure done, I also got to know her sense of humor. Her scheduler, Linda, was terrific. I knew exactly what to do, when, and why. She was very communicative. When I was being prepped for surgery the nursing staff told me how fortunate I was to have someone of Dr. Nouri's knowledge and skill performing the procedure. This review is for Dr Nouri who resides at a Murrieta Valley surgical associates. Dr Nouri is one of the kindest and most caring doctor I've come across in a long long time!! After my surgery she called and checked on me! I've never had a surgeon do that!! She was worried about my pain because I had a quite extensive surgery that caused lots of pain, and she knew I would need pain control. She had told surgical nurse to admit me to the hospital, but the nurse was in a hurry to get me out of there and home anyways, Dr. Nouri took me in and help control my pain and she did everything she could to make me comfortable. If I could give this place a zero, I would. From getting lost in their phone tree without any extension listing help to health care. I worked with Dr. Hege Johnsen's office for over a month, getting my records transferred, explaining my health needs multiple times, talking to multiple people in the office, imploring that my care needs timely attention, etc. Then on a Friday afternoon my insurance authorized visit for Tuesday morning was CANCELLED based on, their words "we don't do that." The medical assistant kept saying my mammogram was too old but I unsuccessfully tried to have her notice my recent MRI. No response. What is this? They did not want to acknowledge the medical info in front of them. I was devastated! Sobbing. Now I need to start from scratch with my PCP, insurance, new specialist, etc, Unbelievable. Shocking. I was looking into bariatric surgery and was going through the process with another office. I had an unrelated surgery scheduled with MVSA and the surgeon was great! So when I saw they did bariatric I was quick to change my Doctor to Dr. Essien. The process to transfer all my tests and information went fairly smooth, and I was able to get my surgery scheduled without much delay. Surgery went well, Sept 2019, and recovery went as well as can be expected. Dr Essien and his staff were friendly and accommodating leading up to the surgery. It was however very difficult to get a call back, so trying to follow up on test results, or class times was challenging. After surgery I had my usual follow ups, and met with his NP. She was great, but didn't know me well so the follow ups weren't very personal. In March 2020 when COVID hit I had followup via ZOOM, with Dr Essien and had to do my blood pressure and weight at home. Then in September 2020, I had my 1 year followup. At that time they were taking appointments in office. I didn't hit the high numbers for weight loss as most patients do, so I was met with lectures and judgment as to why I didn't lose more weight. I was extremely frustrated to have this be my last experience with Dr Essien. He even went as far as to judge me because I had "gained 2 pounds" from my March apt to Sept. (mind you I weighed myself at home in March, and in Sept on their scale in office... it's going to be different!) Considering Dr Essien's patients are all struggling with weight issues I'd have hoped he'd have a little more compassion and grace. Besides lowering the number on the scale, I've gained so much confidence! This surgery has been the best decision I made for myself, and all in all, I feel like the weight I lost was substantial. I just did a portion of it before I even met Dr. Essien. I hope for future patients he can show a little more encouragement. The attitude I was met with could be very defeating to a weaker minded person. I would suggest the bariatrics team start to include measurements in their intake interviews, or before and after photos? There is more to weight loss than the number on the scale. I had read some unfavorable comments about Dr Essien and was concerned. After speaking with my family and my referring insurance provider, I decided I would at least meet him and make my own decision. I am sure glad I did. I loved his direct approach and his willingness to listen to me. I had my gastric bypass on 10/10 and it went great, spent the night and got released the next day. I had very little pain, took me awhile to adjust to the liquid duet, but I couldn't have asked for a better experience. His office answered my questions immediately andfollowed up to see how I was doing. The communication was wonderful. If you're thinking about weight loss surgery. This review is on behalf of my mother and her deeply disappointed and dissatisfied recent experience at this surgical office. After receiving the devastating news of her breast cancer diagnosis, I hoped for compassion and support and honestly expected better. Instead, throughout the brief experience she encountered a staff that was cold and indifferent. There was a clear lack of empathy and understanding for her situation, making an already difficult time even more stressful. It's disheartening to see such a lack of compassion in a place where patients are going through some of the toughest moments of their lives. We expected better care and consideration, and feel completely let down by this office. I would not bring any loved ones to this place. My mother was referred to this sad excuse for a health establishment by her primary care provider after a crucial emergency room visit that identified rapid and aggressive breast cancer. Her primary care provider advised surgery right away along with oncology. She had obtained a STAT MRI and brought the report to this office to review and attempt to get a sooner appointment for consultation, sooner than what they scheduled her for which was about a month away. When she brought the report to the office she was confronted with condescending attitude and snicker from the front office. They didn't even give her the respect or decency to take her into at least a private office to discuss the matter, she discussed the whole thing in a full waiting room, whatever happened to HIPAA. Now we knew the report was written wrong by the radiologist, we are very literate and can read English perfectly fine. We were advised by imaging facility that only a provider can identify and request addendum for the report. No providers at this office would do such thing as that's too much extra work, instead she was met with rudeness and they insisted she obtain a mammogram. Now if you're familiar with the procedure it can be quite uncomfortable for someone not going through breast cancer. Imagine what my mother would experience in her current nature where her right breast is constantly oozing yellowish fluids and nipple nearly eaten away by the cancer. After 2 weeks of this ordeal we are going back to square 1 with primary care to obtain a referral elsewhere, hopefully with more considerate and empathy from the office and providers. I have been a nurse for a decade and this is by far the more horrible treatment of a prospective patient I have ever experienced. read more

First of all Dr. Owens was GREAT. The office follow up was horrible. I had three surgeries for a hernia. The first didn't hold and popped inside me making a second surgery necessary. The third surgery was for sepsis and seems to be doing ok. In each of these surgeries I requested a follow-up appointment by phone and each time I was transferred to a voice mail which stated I would get a call back within 24 hours. They NEVER called back. I was referred by my primary doctor for surgery. After calling for three weeks to schedule an appointment with no answer and nobody responding to my messages, I drove to the facility to walk in to make an appointment. I filled out all my forms online ahead of time but was asked to fill out the same forms on paper when I arrived for my appointment. At the appointment, I was told I needed to wait for approval from my insurance for an MRI, which would take 6-7 days. 16 days later, again with several unanswered phone calls and unreturned messages, I received a call that the MRI was approved and that I needed to make the appointment. After having to look up the imaging place online because I was given no contact information, the imaging place would not schedule my appointment because the surgery center got a referral for the wrong body part. I was told I needed a new referral. Of course - I called the surgery center with no answer and have received no response to the message I left. I, in no way, trust these people to cut into my body.
