I'm sure Dr Hizon was a good medical professional, but not in my opinion and his "evaluation" of me was non-existent and completely inaccurate. Will not be coming back. Being new to the Temecula area after several decades in Chicago, I was in need of a new Dr to oversee my regular health and physical wellbeing. Was referred to Dr Hizon, and with his background in sports medicine, I felt it would be a good fit. I had been experiencing sever back and leg pain for several months making walking and exercising very difficult and painful. I have had several spinal surgeries, resulting in spinal fusion from L1-S1, but had been generally well for over 10 years, no major health issues, and other than the back and occasional knee pain (63 yo with back and arthritis issues, but still very active and mobile, until recently), was in decent shape, according to my Dr in Chicago. At my appointment with Dr Hizon, cannot call it a evaluation or consultation, as he did neither, I was told in general terms that I was going to die if I did not take care of myself, and "would be bad for his reviews". Was told that I was running out of body parts, and needed to change my lifestyle and begin a severe keto diet, with absolutely no carbs, needed to walk at least 10k steps/day (which I was doing until the recent back and leg pain and the reason for needing to see Dr Hizon) and start Pilates, and follow his videos and diet plans and apps. Was ordered extensive blood work and lab test to give him a baseline of my health. Never examined me, never asked me questions, just saw a 63 year old man in pain and decided I was in declining health. Scheduled a video call for a follow up a few weeks out, and I had to travel for a friend's medical emergency, and was the day of my friends procedure, so I had limited time before heading to the hospital. I logged on at 9:45am for a 10am call, at 10:15 I called and explained that I had to leave with my friend for the hospital at 11:00. They explained that once Dr Hizon arrived, he would call me back, no more than 10 minutes. About 30 minutes later, in the hospital and unable to use my cell, I was told that I was reschedule with his nurse practitioner at 1, even though I specifically told them I would not be available the rest of the day. At 1:15 I again received a message and was told I was rescheduled for 4:20. It has been 2 weeks since this all happened and I have yet to hear back from Dr Hizon or his office, neither through the patient portal or a call or an email, nothing. Turns out my results were all good, even better than last year. Have since sent my doctor the results and had a video call with him to discuss the results. I cannot recommend a Dr that asks not a single question of his patients and evaluates you without any examinations. A doctor that uses fear to intimidate and scare his patients into doing as he wants. I saw another Dr in Temecula with my in-laws, prior to my initial "meeting" with Dr Hizon, her first words were " he hasn't retired yet?", that should have been a warning to do my proper due diligence on him, as we all should. read more

I had Dr Hizon as my doctor for a couple of years and he was hands down the best doctor I've ever had. I wish I still lived locally so he could still be my doctor. If I had to give a grade, the staff would get a C, and the doctor a B-. The staff answering the phone is a bit rude and I hate to say the Dr was just OK. I had much higher hopes for this doctor based off of reviews and his background but when I went in for my appointment he asked the basic questions and told me to maintain a healthy lifestyle and preached his healthy program. The whole time I was thinking "no $#!t Sherlock". I appreciate that he and the staff wore masks and kept a distance but he kept looking at the door during my appt and I'm pretty sure I heard the staff cheer when I walked out of the office since I was the last patient of the day. dr hizon did not even devote 1 minute of his time to evaluate properly!!! he just carelessly told me to eat something to get better and did not even stay for more than 20 seconds during the whole visit!!!! besides this office is the only office i have to pay even after the office tells me i am up to date on payments but send me a bill!!! this place should be shut down or reported to the board!!!!! he was in rush, didn't want to listen, interrupted, and just ignored most of my symptoms. office staff is nice and helpful though. read more

Dr. Hizon goes above and beyond to facilitate and make sure his patients needs are met. He stayed in constant communication after working hours on a Friday to ensure the pharmacy had what the need to dispense my needed drug. He is not only PCP but an expert in weight loss and understands the the whole process. If I could give him 7 starts, I would have hesitate. And if I had wish that he is something else, I would wish that he is a lawyer because I know he will be there with me arguing with the Jude for what I need and for what I'm entitled to even after his working hours to ensure my safe and comfort recovery. Dr. Hizon being a past Dr for a major football team had his work cut out with my husband and I. My husband had an elbow injury and Dr did for him what he does for players using his equipment and knowledge he kept him out of surgery for a year. (Out of pain for most of the time without pills). I came here recently for consultation and was very disappointed with the overall experience. The first problem is their phone system which you cannot reach anyone ever. I tried all the extensions and called several times and no one ever answered at the receptionist as well as the nurses station, which came as a surprise because when I arrived for my appointment there was a receptionist at the counter and several people around the nurses station. I find the office to be a little cold and unwelcoming especially the receptionist that I encountered when I arrived, She didn't say one word to me or greet me she only handed me a sign in sheet. Even as I was leaving she looked at me with a very unfriendly face and still no interaction or conversation. When I approached the main door to leave the doctor and I opened the door the same time and he pushed past me without even an acknowledgment or excuse me. I think it's very important when you're visiting a doctors office to feel relaxed, welcomed, and in a professional environment that consists of friendliness and respect. I went in for an Exam because he was recommended. after waiting an Hour and a Half I had to reschedule and deal with my sour stomach on my own. 2nd Visit -- The nurse took my Blood Pressure and tells me it's High. I don't have any History Of High Blood Pressure but this Doctor didn't hesitate to say he wants to put me on Blood Pressure pills. That's how they get you to depend on them. With their Artificial Drugs!!! Which create more health problems! And their weight scale is about 10 pounds on the plus. He'll tell you about his Book you can buy. Who knows if the Blood Lab Results are accurate with the rhetoric that this guy has to say. Worse doctor ever. Never listens to you to find out what you came in for. Even has you fill out a form beforehand about what you came in for, and then obviously doesn't bother to read it as you never get asked any questions pertaining to anything. you put down. All he wants to do is lecture you on diabetes, Whether you have it, or not. He seems to want to get you to buy some book he has out there. He also tries to get you on a keto diet. After a couple of visits where I never got to discuss what I cane in for, I gave up. Time to find a new doctor. My husband had the same result. We both dumped him. Dr Hizon is the worst doctor my family and I have ever had. He's been our Primary for a couple of years. We never go to the doctor, so it wasn't until I had a major issue that I realized his incompetence. I was dealing what seems like a ready to retire doctor who's simply showing up and going through the motions. He couldn't care less about me. I was in excruciating pain, pain I've never felt before with a herniated disc in my back and sciatic that flared up to a 1000%. Being a "Sports Medicine" doctor, he should know how to handle this. I was literally stuck on the floor for 5 straight days. I had to scoot across my floor to go to the bathroom. I was not sleeping more than 2 hours a night! After the 6th day on the floor I knew I had to try to walk so I had to borrow a neighbors walker. He did give me pain medication, but the low dose didn't work. To make a long story short. After trying to reach him to explain, I needed something different, he and his staff treated me as though I was an opioid junky looking for pills. No matter what I tired, he wouldn't change my medication to help me. I had to go to urgent care to get a change in my other medications to help them work with the Norco he gave me. He demanded I get blood-work done and then never even called me with the results. I had to request an MRI, which took an additional week and a half of agony to not only get an appointment but to then get the results. I, again had to call down to the imaging place to ask about my results. They were not only done but had been sent to him the day before. It wasn't until I requested that he read them and get back to me that he responded with, "You have a herniated disc. I'll refer you to Physical Therapy and then an orthopedic surgeon." THAT WAS IT! My 3mm aren't even surgery worthy. Not at any time did he try to help me, in any other way. He would only say "I'm sorry you're in pain". After speaking with friends, I heard about other non-narcotic Pain options. I asked him about these options and his response (Via message I waited all day to get back) said "That's not appropriate." Yes, that is it. Nothing else. I (AGAIN) had to request a pain management doctor. Which he provided the referral. The final straw was when I requested another refill of my pain meds. 20 pills taken every 4 hours as needed. Remember they don't really work for me, so I had to take another every 4 hours. He gladly refilled them but told me he was going to also prescribe a Nasal Spray in case I OVERDOSED!!! I was extremely angry and offended and let him know. I never called him again and planned to find a new doc. ASAP. Few days later, I get a letter in the mail from Dr. Hizon, FIRING me as a patient for "failure to cooperate with the medical care plans" Plans I was NOT aware of unless it was to leave me in massive amounts of pain without any direction. I continue to be in complete shock! It is now 5 weeks in. I am still in pain and just now stopped using the walker I borrowed. I can only walk and stand for a few minutes at time. My Pain management doctor heard me and is helping me with non-narcotic options. DO NOT USE THIS GUY. read more

First of all I've only been here twice now, second I do really like Dr.Hizon. I do have to say, the wait times are horrific. The first time I was here I waited in the waiting room for 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment time which I showed up 20 minutes early for. Then After being let into the room I waited another hour before I spoke to the doctor. As I sit writing this I am now going over an hour sitting in a room waiting for the doctor after the 32 minutes I spent in the waiting room for again my scheduled appointment. Not sure if he needs less patients or more nurses or perhaps a larger office but my lunch break is now way over and I am wasting my valuable and limited paid time off. Not to mention I need to get back to work to actually work. I think the doctor is nice and his nurses have been nice so far except the first front desk girl I met was bitchy. So I scheduled an appointment weeks(after I received new insurance for 2018) ago gave my insurance info profiled new patient info. I get to my appointment early however they wait till I get there in hopes that I would self pay knowing that the two insurances I have Kaiser and Molina they don't accept. Give that line I tried to call you I just spoke with someone yesterday to confirm my appointment so that is a lie. This office is a joke. I believe he saved my husband from going down the slippery slope of bad health by diagnosing him with hemochromatosis. Who would have thought, a hereditary condition we never heard of. I will start this review by saying I am picky about medical professionals and I took a long time identifying someone in the Temecula Valley to be my primary doctor. I discovered Dr Hizon when my daughter had a sports issue and was excited to learn that he also sees patients as a general family practitioner. So you really get all of that sports-oriented skill and expertise and years of experience coupled with a very intuitive, highly educated family doctor. This office is very well run with great, positive, friendly staff. The thing I appreciate most about Dr Hizon is his intellectual curiosity and growth mindset. He recognizes that science and medicine are constantly developing and learning and he always keeps up and wants to even stay a step ahead if possible. He doesn't just say, "I'm the doctor and in 1985 they taught it to me this way so this is how it is." Anything he does or recommends, he'll say the different research and recommendations to back it and his rationale for why, but he'll also add in his personal experience treating thousands of patients in the past and also a little bit of his own perceptiveness as well. I also appreciate that he doesn't ridicule the fact that I take supplements and have some alternative-medicine orientation. Also I will add that he does a lot within the community to support students in high school and the various colleges (community colleges as UC Riverside) and is always looking for ways to give back and contribute. read more

He is probably a good doctor, and he has lots to say about weight loss and Keto diet. So I found it amusing when I had lost 15 lbs between visits, and he made no mention of it or congratulator comments. Glad I didn't have a real medical reason for the weight loss. I later made a decision to change physician, gave a month notice to have my medical records transferred, and it was not done. I had to make a trip to his office to retrieve the records (on the same day as my appointment with new Internal Med physician. I feel this office is really a lot of smoke and mirror, as it's all about his books, movies, and diets. I never got that warm fuzzy feeling with him and now I feel that the office did a poor job in transferring my records as requested (by me & documented). I'm happier with a physician who pays attention to my well being and not in promoting books, videos, and meetings with self-help groups. read more

My son has seen Dr Hizon for several years, never again. 2 reasons.... 1. The billing people think its completely appropriate to threaten to send you to collection without first sending you a bill in a timely matter. I just received a bill for the first time from office visits from 2016 saying we owe money and that they are sending me to collection if I don't pay within 2 weeks. Now, don't get me wrong I'm happy to pay the bill, if in fact I owe it. But I have not received any previous bills. We've been to his office many times since 2016, I was never told we had a balance, or asked to pay. We always paid the co-pay to them. So, obviously I was surprised to open the bill today and also super pissed off. 2. When my son was preparing to leave for college, he needed to get a meningitis vaccine. I called Dr Hizon's office to get him a meningitis vaccine. The office told me that Dr would want to do something called a titer(?) test first to see if he really needed the vaccine. Then, apparently, you send the waiver to the school and one doesn't actually need to be vaccinated. So, knowing he's the doctor here, not me, I went along with this BS. I paid the co-pay at the office and paid for the blood work necessary for this test. When I received the results from Hizon's office, I was told to submit this to the college and it would show that he doesn't need to be vaccinated. When I sent the test to the college, the college nurse called me and said this test had nothing to do with meningitis. I don't remember what she said the test was, but it was not a titer test for meningitis. I told Dr Hizon's office this and asked if Dr Hizon would just vaccinate my son for meningitis. But guess what? Dr Hizon doesn't do meningitis vaccinations and that he could go to CVS for his vaccine. read more

I came on here to see if anyone else had the same experience I did and was relieved yet sadden that other people had. Only go to this Dr if you want to be told that the Keto diet will solve all your problems. I also was told I could have "abs by April". I saw someone else post this on here and couldn't believe she was told the same thing. It made me feel good I wasn't alone. He attacked my self esteem. I went in for some scary symptoms I was having and was told at first that he would "fight for answers for me." I felt so relieved to have found a Dr. that would help me! That all changed the second visit and so forth. Every single visit was about how I needed to lose 10lbs and the Keto diet would make all the issues go away. My last visit with him I left in tears. He made me feel fat and that I was the problem even though I worked out 5 days a week and ate healthy..but because it wasn't Keto it wasn't correct. Thank goodness I never walked back in his doors because I found out from a Dr who cares that I have a tumor on my pituitary gland which is on my brain. Sorry Jerry Hizon, the Keto diet can't fix that... If you're a woman be prepared to be belittled and if you're not into the Keto diet, he's not the guy for you. read more

We have been with Dr. Hizon as a family for many years for sports injuries, physicals, checkups, and everything else. The office is efficient and they always seem to find a way to squeeze you in to the schedule right away for last minute appointments. Dr. Hizon is thorough for the run-of-the-mill care, is great for sports injuries, and gives good guidance for longer-term overall health. Our son brought a terrible flu home from college and shared it with us and Dr. Hizon took care of my wife and then made it easy to get some of the same symptoms that we were both suffering from treated on me as well. It is rare to have nothing but good things to say about a medical provider these days, but we definitely feel that way about Dr. Hizon. read more

He focuses on the importance of preventative medicine by teaching you about nutrition, promoting daily exercise and (as rare as this is) using mainly non-medication treatments for injuries and ailments.
