Great spot for lessons or just to free skate to good music. Ice skating 101- make sure you have all your winter gear on (hats,jacket, gloves, double socks) even though it's indoors.. This was my first time, I came so unprepared and my feet and hands were cramping of the cold by the end of it all. Nonetheless, we had a great time. Few hours every Sunday afternoon are scheduled for public skating (look up calendar)... was quite reasonably priced @ $10 (including skate rentals) for 1.5hrs. A good winter activity for kids to burn all that energy. They have milk crates to lean on for beginners which I relied on heavily else I'm quite certain I'd break a hip. Gladly it wasn't too crowded. What fun! we'll be back next week and I'll surely sign up for lessons next year. read more

The rink is under new ownership, so I have no idea what it is like now. I do know that the ice was one of the best. The rink itself need some serious help, but the ice was most important. The pro shop was top drawer. I never had any trouble get the proper help buying equipment. read more

I drive 2+ hours to visit this place. This review is for the shop as I do not have experience with the rink, ice or skate sharpening. I just buy stuff here. So do several of my teammates. They just have a phenomenal selection of stuff - more than any other hockey equipment store in my area. Prices are great and the assistance is solid. Recently I was in the market for a new pair of skates and a Bauer Re-AKT helmet. The helmet you can find pretty much anywhere at the same price of $250 including cage... the Bauer Nexus 1N skates however are hard to find locally, and since I'm changing from a Supreme skate EE width and could only find the 1N online, I wanted to try and get fitted in store so I know I'm ordering the correct size. When I called the South Windsor store to ask if they could fit me for that skate, I was told, "we don't open the store so people can come in and use our time and resources to order online." I've been playing hockey for 30 years, and the reason I support local hockey shops instead of big stores or online retailers is because the staff is knowledgeable and helpful with equipment and not there just to ring up your purchase, they're there to help....apparently that no longer is the case at this store. Obviously, I decided to purchase my helmet elsewhere, and will not be shopping at the South Windsor Rink anymore. read more

I have to take them down a peg. My first review touched on the problem briefly. I've been playing hockey for 15 years. I know what a 7/16" edge feels like on my skates. I also know that I need my skates sharpened about once a month to keep that edge performing well. That said, it will be a snowy day in hell before the orangutans that sharpen skates here touch my goddamn skates ever again. They screwed up TWICE. First time in, I politely ask the clerk to tell the sharpener I want a 7/16". With utter despondency, the guy replies, "the stone is set to 7/16", so there's no need." First of all, why the contentious nonsense? Second of all, MAYBE YOU SHOULD HAVE TOLD HIM. First time out, I was swimming like a dying fish out there. After visually inspecting the blades, even my naked eye could tell that the blades were too flat. So I take them back, politely requesting they be redone. "You can't just tell by looking at them, it's impossible," the same surly employee needlessly argued. They redid them. They were somewhat better. But after five skates, they needed to be sharpened again. If they dull that quick, they're clearly still not at 7/16". Continue to buy your equipment and play here. Get your blades honed elsewhere. read more

This is regarding the pro shop as I was only shopping for equipment and I'm from out of town. This store is amazing for a private owned skate rink. It rivals pure hockey stores with the volume of merchandise. The staff was super friendly and I got exactly what I needed. Would travel to this place anytime I'm in town! read more

They have a good pro shop, I'll give them that. The ice itself also is decent to skate on. But the rest of the place is dumpy, covered in dust from head to toe. In the locker rooms, you hear rats crawling in the ceiling. A gross rink, gives you a bit of the creeps. read more
