I have toyed with the thought of replacing my roof for some time, consequently, I had spoken to many roofers and received a number of bids. For the most part, the bids were within range of each other, however, I never felt that I found a vendor that overwhelmed me. One day I happened to drive by a neighbors house and saw a sign for Matute Roofing and decided to call to discuss a bid. At the same time, a friend gave me the name of a well-known local roofer and also called them too. Jeff from Matute Roofing called back immediately and scheduled an appointment for the next day. The other roofing company scheduled an appointment for 8 days later. Jeff came to the appointment with a full presentation, showing me the materials that would be used, how they are installed, and a thorough explanation of Matute's process. Unlike other people I had met, Jeff was straightforward, no BS, and clear and concise in the presentation. He didn't try to sell me, as much as he tried to educate me and ensure I understood the total process. He went above and beyond anyone I had spoken to before. Later, I met with the local roofer representative. He spent most of the time explaining how difficult my project was. Quite frankly, he freaked me out wondering whether he was right and should even be speaking to other vendors. When I received their bid a few days later, the write-up was a recapitulation of what he told me personally, and the actual cost of the project was 45% higher than any other bid I ever received. The scary thing is that I was actually leaning to the higher bid because of the fear factor and assumed the old adage "you get what you pay for". Just as a follow-up and for my own mental health, I asked Jeff to come back to review some issues. He did so immediately and I casually asked him questions about the difficulties of the project, steep roof issues, water and ice barriers, and all the other "issues" that were brought up in the other bid. Jeff addressed each one easily. Essentially his overall answer was this is the roof project and why you select a vendor like Matute to do it. Not that it was so difficult, but just what needs to be done to do it right. That's all I needed to hear. I chose Matute that moment, shook Jeff's hands, and gave him a small deposit check....which he said he would not cash until after the project was completed. Which is exactly what he did. Jeff gave an approximate date to start the project (based on weather) and followed up with me up to the day when it started....literally to the day he told me. On the day the project started, a team led by Freddy and 8 other people showed up in Matute trucks and started the project. They operated like a fine-tuned, well-oiled machine. It was clear that this was a group that has worked together regularly and was fully trained on the art of roofing, safety, and productivity.....contrary to what I was told by other roofer vendors that roofers often outsource their projects. Clearly, as Jeff told me, this was a Matute roofing team. Though it was clear that Freddy and his team were expertly on the project, Jeff was at the project throughout the 4 days checking in to ensure everything was absolutely perfect....as he had told me he would. The team started the project on a Thursday and 4 days later, despite the "difficulty" was done and cleaned up. In fact, because it was going to rain on Monday, they even came on Sunday to finish the project to avoid the rain. I was already so impressed with their work ethic, and the fact they wanted to come on a Sunday to avoid the rain just solidified that Matute Roofing is not your normal roofing company and that I truly selected the right company for my project. My suggestion is to don't waste time, call Jeff and Matute Roofing. Jeff was truly the most honest, straightforward project manager I have ever dealt with and Freddy and his team were more than impressive. The absolutely right guys to go with. I was lucky to find them! read more
