Management was exceptionally communicative about minor issues as they arose - everything was handled quickly. We look forward to returning and plan to stay in the same unit - none could be better!

Kaanapali Ali'i has been our go to spot on Maui for many years now. It usually features…read morecomfortable, spacious, fully furnished, well maintained 1-2 bedroom villas with full kitchens, refrigerators, microwaves and coffee makers at a great location on Kaanapali beach. Overall the spacious lush tropical grounds are beautifully maintained with two pools, a kiddie pool and two hot spas and featuring BBQ grills under a covered deck with chairs and tables. The whole complex is directly on the beach. There are no restaurant or bars on the property which is nice as it keeps crowds to a minimum. Unfortunately this visit fell well short. We rented two ninth floor villas, each with a different but beautiful view of the beach or the mountains. Unit 495 was a mountain facing two bedroom unit. It was clean, well maintained, probably recently renovated and up to the exemplary Kaanapali Ali'i standards we are used to. Unit 496 was an ocean facing villa showing it's age. One bathroom shower curtain showed spots of black mold.The lanai doors were incredibly hard to open requiring a maintenance person to come and repair them. The refrigerator ice/water dispenser leaked and there were stains from it and possibly something else down the front. Worst of all was the sickening smell of cigarette or possibly cigar smoke throughout the unit. This is unacceptable for a non smoking facility and quite unappealing. Electric air freshener units and odor disguising gel containers were provided but could only partly contain the smell in two of the bedrooms. The whole unit needs to be cleaned, sanitized and the lingering smoke scent removed. The bed in one of the bedrooms was regrettably very hard and painful for us to try to sleep on. Water to the entire complex had to be shutoff overnight for some kind of plumbing replacement work. Small plastic jugs of water were available at the front desk, this we found out by my son casually mentioning the inconvenience of the water shutoff to a facility staff member whi indicated that water would be delivered to the room upon request. When I called th efront desk, no delivery of this water to the room was available or offered. The outside bathrooms were under construction and we were directed to two porta potties, laughingly labeled as "Rest rooms", outside the buildings requiring a long walk to access. We should have been advised of this work before arriving as it was extremely inconvenient. The two large pools were getting shut down to access for maintenance or some other kind of issues. The two outside showers that are used to rinse off were unexpectedly shut down for a day so no rinsing off of sand. we noticed some younger guests simply entering the pools or spas with sand still over their feet and legs which resulted in a greta deal of sand at the bottom of the pools/spasOne night we attempted to access our two units only to finad all of our keys deactivated. The front desk could I understand any facility needs maintenance but having all this happen in the space of out two week stays was vey discouraging. I hope to return to Kaanapali Ali'i in the future but will definitely first be monitoring reviews and contacting the facility directly to try to determine what to expect. This is a discouraging turn in Maui vacation planning.

Now the bad: There are a group of people (we found out later that they own units here) who are not nice. They hang out at the pool daily, sit on the steps and talk very loudly. Then they complain to the workers if you play music near them. Our music was not loud at all and even the worker told us so and he felt bad. The workers say they play music by the pool too and it's only this group of owners who complain a lot. Oh and they give you dirty looks too. I usually love hanging out with older people but some of these people/ owners are just crabby & unhappy people. Hope that helps. Good luck if you decide to stay.

We booked our stay at The Whaler through Costco. The units they offer are managed by Aston. We…read morebooked a Premium Ocean View Studio and receive unit 915 in Tower 1. The unit was pretty well appointed but the owners must be quite tall. The toilet is really high and my feet dangled several inches off the floor while using it. The jetted tub was hard to get into and the bed was rather high too. If you are petite like me and get this unit, you will have to contact Aston to get a change, the front desk can't help you. Maybe we should have done that, but we arrived after Aston was closed for they day and once unpacked we didn't want to move the next day. Our unit did not have many electrical outlets and no USB ports. Luckily we brought along an extension cord and USB power adapters. The unit was equipped with standard plates, glasses, utensils, blender, toaster, coffee maker, stove, microwave, refrigerator with ice dispenser, and dishwasher. Kleenex, paper towels, dish soap, dishwasher soap, one package of laundry soap and plenty of bathroom towels. The grounds are well maintained, gardeners were trimming and sweeping most of the day. The lobby has hot coffee urns in the morning and delicious pineapple iced tea in the afternoons. The location is fantastic, steps away from the beach, next door to Whalers Village for shopping, right along the beach walk. We didn't use the pool but sat by it once chairs became available in the late afternoon (there were lots of chairs but even more chair hogs.) My husband did use the hot tub and reported it was quite hot. The pool area has coffee in the mornings and iced tea in the afternoons. I used the fitness center a couple of times. There were dumbbells of many weights and other great strength training equipment. There were also treadmills, ellipticals, and exercise bicycles. Water and towels were provided. Overall, we feel we made a great choice in booking The Whaler.

It was beautifully decorated. It had a spare room which was a nice surprise too!! There was a large wrap around lanai with plenty of space for entertaining! It had fabulous views of the golf course & the ocean! Majestic sunset views too! There were only 4 of us but it would have been perfect for a family of 6 too. But, the hotels response was ridiculous! 3 strips of outlets run by an electric generator for a hotel with 3 towers of rooms is unsat. They ran out quickly before someone figured out they should switch to a gas generator. That morning, they told us to get coffee from Starbucks, but walking there in the dark we found Starbucks not even open. The maintenance guy called food and beverage to put out some complimentary coffee but that never arrived. So we spent the day in Kīhei while they figured stuff out here in Kaanapali. After the entire day, we made it back and only the smallest of the three pools was able to be turned on, with far too many people in it then the next message we get is that there's an issue with HVAC, so we spent the night sweating instead of sleeping since the ventilation was blowing warm air. And opening your room window just let in hotter more humid air. Needless to say the maintenance team didn't have the skills to get their ship righted and we paid for it in discomfort. The front desk staff likely took the brunt of the heat, but they didn't seem to field the complaints very well judging by the several exchanges I watched while waiting in line for 13 minutes with only 1 clerk for a line that started with 2 that grew to 9. No urgency or backup at the counter so the audience grew while we all witnessed complaining and a poor response by the staff. The views are amazing though!

I was hoping to stay in the Napili Tower, mainly because I liked the pool area better--longer, more spread out, and largely oceanfront. That said, the Lahaina Tower ended up having its own perks. The biggest one is that it's right next to the self-parking structure that's used for the whole resort, which makes coming and going incredibly easy. If you're staying in the Napili tower, self-parking is all the way on the other side and I would recommend using valet instead to save you the walk. Our room was spacious and comfortable, technically "oceanfront," though it felt more like oceanview. Still, no complaints--the view was lovely, and the room itself had a convenient kitchenette with a fridge, sink, and all the basics (plates, utensils, etc.), which made snack time quick and easy. The Lahaina Tower also has its own smaller pool area, plus a few fun extras like ping pong and foosball. It's also right by Longhi's, if you're looking for an easy meal. If you want more action, the main pool area--with the large, winding pool and additional dining options--is just a short walk away. The weather during our stay wasn't the best--it was actually pretty chilly by Maui standards following the heels of two major storms--but we still had a great time. Between the comfortable room, convenient location, and easy access to everything on property, it made for a relaxed and low-effort getaway. While the resort may not be the newest, we really like the main pool area. I'll definitely opt for the Lahaina/Napili towers again next time. This is a great resort, especially for families looking for a laid-back Maui stay with nice views and plenty to do.

When we arrived, our villa contained power tools, dirty dishes, and had clearly not been properly prepared for guests. What was even more frustrating was that it took three separate face-to-face visits with both the front desk and management before the room was finally cleaned. Communication throughout the process was poor, and we never felt that anyone took real ownership of the issue. The only compensation offered was a $50 resort credit, which did not reflect the inconvenience or the time we spent trying to resolve a problem that should never have existed. Beyond our room, both the villas and many of the common areas felt worn, dingy, and lacking the level of care we have come to expect from the Westin brand. The most disappointing aspect of our stay wasn't simply the condition of the property--it was the apparent lack of urgency and concern from management. We have always associated Westin with quality, service, and attention to detail. Unfortunately, this experience fell well below those expectations. We hope management takes these concerns seriously because loyal owners and guests deserve much better.

He even gave my young son a little toy turtle stuffy as a souvenir. They had coloring pages about Maui and crayons in the lobby for the kids which was so convenient for when we were waiting to meet with family. The location is just divine with the koi pond and bridge, the beach is super clean, the pool staff is also so kind and informative ready to provide fresh towels whenever needed. It was a joy to see them each day. The beds are super comfortable with soft cozy blankets and nothing beats the soft sound of the waves as you go to sleep after a fun filled day. The location was so perfect, right on the beach in the middle of Blackrock on one side and Whaler's Village on the other. We found the ABC store to be a bit pricey so we went a couple blocks down in the car to Foodland Market and bought some poke and staples to keep in the room for when we were dining out and it was perfect! We also really appreciated the coffee they provided in the mornings in the lobby. It was so convenient to have there and then at 11:00am they switch it out to the most delicious pineapple ice tea you've ever had in your life! Such a refreshing treat that we enjoyed each day! We didn't have not one single complaint during our stay! It was like living in paradise! We booked through Costco and had no issues! This time, I did my research & called in advance requesting to have a view facing the north (either side - tower 1 or 2). I was told they cannot guarantee a specific room. Which I understand, it was just a request to have a different view. They gave us room 1164 (Studio room in tower 2). The views from the balcony is beautiful. You CAN hear the ocean from your balcony. There is a small table to eat meals in your balcony & a lounger chair. We did not pick a Premium studio so that is why the furniture, kitchen and bathroom is dated. But we were only there to eat and sleep. The bed was too low but was comfy and soft. There is a small sized tv facing the bed. Hawaiian tropical decor all around. The bathroom was ok. The kitchen is fully stocked. Dishwasher and stove works. There is a shared washing machine & dryer in each floor by the elevators. They provide just enough dishwasher pods, soap, and laundry detergent. Again this hotel is a nice gem. Steps away from the Whalers Village: Restaurants & ABC store is walking distance. Hotel grounds are immaculate. Every morning, you can see the workers cleaning or pruning the trees/flowers. You get what you pay for, if you want updated/newer furniture, pick the Premium.

Love the golf cart transportation. The property is airy, modern and causal. I loved the communication via text of how to prepare for the upcoming storm. The power went out due to the storm and communication pretty much stopped after that. Though the reception and main tower still had power. All in all, a Beautiful stay. The pros far outweighs the cons. Def would stay again if I was staying in Lahaina.

Unfortunately upon checkin, my requested two queen bed accommodations were unable to be provided. At the recommendation of the front desk clerk Caroline and the MOD (Manager on Duty) Keith We decided to opt for the king bed and roll in "Heavenly" twin. Keith was very apologetic for the lack of requested accomodations but provided us with an upgraded ocean view room and The LĀNAI . This resort is 5 stars in all respects. The staff experience was exceptional. The food & beverage experience was outstanding. The resort is spotless clean and meticulously maintained. The pools and surrounding decks were large enough that we never felt crowded or had an issue finding chairs. The resort has a huge game area "Valley Alley" with a full bar and kitchen. Well appointed with the latest games including VR, air hickey and even bowling. The resort is conveniently located right next to Whalers Village. A short 3 minute walk. Our room was well appointed with all the ammenities that you would expect from the Westin brand. From thick bath towels and The Heavenly bedding to ice cold A/C. This resort has it all. Our experience was made even better by the exceptional and most sincere service provided by Miss. Giadee Kaiwi Hōkūpa'a Experience Coordinator. She made our visit that much better with her warm smile and pleasant attitude. A true ambassador to the Westin name.

Would definitely choose this location again. Everything in this condo was brand new. Snorkeling on the other side of Black Rock was amazing and just a short walk next door at the Sheraton.
