Here's the good part about this place: We loved the view and access to the beach. The people who work here are very friendly and helpful. The unit was nice. We really liked it. Now the bad: There are a group of people (we found out later that they own units here) who are not nice. They hang out at the pool daily, sit on the steps and talk very loudly. Then they complain to the workers if you play music near them. Our music was not loud at all and even the worker told us so and he felt bad. The workers say they play music by the pool too and it's only this group of owners who complain a lot. Oh and they give you dirty looks too. I usually love hanging out with older people but some of these people/ owners are just crabby & unhappy people. Hope that helps. Good luck if you decide to stay. read more

We booked our stay at The Whaler through Costco. The units they offer are managed by Aston. We booked a Premium Ocean View Studio and receive unit 915 in Tower 1. The unit was pretty well appointed but the owners must be quite tall. The toilet is really high and my feet dangled several inches off the floor while using it. The jetted tub was hard to get into and the bed was rather high too. If you are petite like me and get this unit, you will have to contact Aston to get a change, the front desk can't help you. Maybe we should have done that, but we arrived after Aston was closed for they day and once unpacked we didn't want to move the next day. Our unit did not have many electrical outlets and no USB ports. Luckily we brought along an extension cord and USB power adapters. The unit was equipped with standard plates, glasses, utensils, blender, toaster, coffee maker, stove, microwave, refrigerator with ice dispenser, and dishwasher. Kleenex, paper towels, dish soap, dishwasher soap, one package of laundry soap and plenty of bathroom towels. The grounds are well maintained, gardeners were trimming and sweeping most of the day. The lobby has hot coffee urns in the morning and delicious pineapple iced tea in the afternoons. The location is fantastic, steps away from the beach, next door to Whalers Village for shopping, right along the beach walk. We didn't use the pool but sat by it once chairs became available in the late afternoon (there were lots of chairs but even more chair hogs.) My husband did use the hot tub and reported it was quite hot. The pool area has coffee in the mornings and iced tea in the afternoons. I used the fitness center a couple of times. There were dumbbells of many weights and other great strength training equipment. There were also treadmills, ellipticals, and exercise bicycles. Water and towels were provided. First time visiting The Whaler and everyone was so incredibly kind and helpful. The front desk staff were very nice! We were given shell necklaces on our check in. Cheri at the concierge was very kind and helpful. She answered a ton of my questions and gave great insight as a local too. She was awesome! Vhee at the entrance gate was a super sweetheart with such a fun chill vibe. She made our entry and exit enjoyable-- thank you Vhee!! Our room was very spacious. We had a partial ocean view room. I loved that there were two bathrooms and a full kitchenette. It gets expensive to eat in Maui so being able to make at least 1 or 2 meals a day saves a lot of cost and allowed us to try a nice restaurant for any of the meals we didn't cook at our room. The bed is also SUPER comfy. I slept like a baby the first night and that rarely happens. Everything is very clean. I appreciated that they gave us extra toilet paper and paper towels. The room was well stocked with towels and amenities you might need. The only negative I can give is the fitness center. Several machines out of service -- I wished this was better taken care of. Healthier people mean happier people and a better environment for everyone!! That said, the fitness center was at least clean. One tip on the sauna-- give it at least 10-15 minutes to heat up. Beautiful waterfront resort with condo style living steps away from Kanapali beach and a hop, skip, jump away from Whalers Village. The grounds are breath taking with fish ponds, beautiful gardens, pool, hot tub, tennis course and underground parking. It was our first time visiting this resort. My parents visit every year, but decided to try out a new resort. We were very fortunate to have a upgraded room with a ocean view on the top floor. Our wrap around balcony provided us views of Black Rock, the hillsides, Whalers Village and of course the beautiful water. The 1 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo was perfect. We had a fully stocked kitchen with every appliance and gadget needed to maximize our stay. Our room had books, puzzles and games to entertain us. There was also beach toys, body boards, sand toys to play with. Now, these condos are individually owned so each unit is stocked with their own style. Ours had a washer and dryer which I took advantage of before heading home There are no restaurants on site but you are walking distance from many of them. They do offer free coffee in the mornings and iced tea in the evenings. Daily towel service is available with a towel card. Staff is extremely friendly. read more

I wish that I could live here as a permanent resident. The views of the beach are so beautiful and the hotel is walking distance from various shops and restaurants. My hotel room itself was nice too with a spacious room, clean bathroom, and even a nice kitchen. I was in Hawaii for a friend's wedding and after a layover plus a delayed flight, all I wanted to do was just take a hot shower and sleep. I finally checked in and was given my hotel room, which was at the bottom level. I quite enjoyed my lodging experience there because it provided me with everything that I needed at the time. However, I am just taking away one star because when my flight to Hawaii was delayed, I missed my first night of stay. In result, I had to call the hotel front desk to let them know that I was arriving late and asked if I could waive off the fee for the first night. They informed me that a hotel manager would call me to resolve the issue. However, that person never called, and when I checked out on my last day, I asked again to follow up. The gentleman at the front desk informed me that I would have to call Expedia to resolve the issue since I booked my hotel stay through a third party. I was slightly frustrated because I thought that I would be able to resolve the issue on site, but I simply brushed it off. Overall, I enjoyed my stay but I think communication should be a bit more clear between hotel staff and guests. read more

I booked a few nights at the Whaler for Thanksgiving weekend last week. I booked through Airbnb and stayed in a unit on the ground floor. I didn't know what to expect as far as service goes since it was a privately owned unit I booked. However, the experience was very similar to booking at a resort. Check in was through the front desk and I had all the same access as anyone else staying there. The room was nice and we had a large lanai on the ground floor that opened up into a large grassy area that had views on Black Rock and the ocean views. The grounds were well kept and clean. The front desk staff were all very friendly and helpful. Every question I asked, they were there to help. Since we arrived early in the morning, our room was not available yet, but they preregistered us and gave us parking, as well as access cards, and towel cards. In the lobby, they had complimentary sweet tea and cold water. There is parking underground, which fills up toward the end of the day. But no worries, there is an overflow lot outside by the parking entrance if you arrive late. We were lucky enough to get parking underground each time. It's more convenient because you can walk directly into each tower from that parking lot. The location is great because it is right next to the Whalers Village Mall. We frequent that mall for the restaurants and ABC Store to stock our refrigerator. My only complaint was with the guy working the rental booth where you get towels. He just didn't seem very friendly at all each time I had to interact with him. I actually dreaded having to go to him whenever I had to get or return towels. I finally somewhat gave him a slight attitude the last day and as I walked away, he apologized. I don't know, maybe he didn't realize his attitude and I guess it's a leaning experience on my part to show my dissatisfaction more. read more

This property is beautiful! My family and I stayed in two different rooms. My cousins and I had a 2 bedroom 2 bath condo on the 11th floor. You can see by the pictures the condo was amazing and had unbelievable views. The porch wrapped around both sides (corner unit) so you had unobstructed views of the ocean and the mountains. I couldn't decide which view I liked most. The condo was clean, very spacious and stocked with just about everything you could possibly need during your stay. The room with a king bed is huge and had an ensuite bathroom. The 2nd bedroom had two queens and still ample room for your suitcases. My aunt and uncle stayed one floor down in a one bed, two bath condo. Although they weren't a corner unit, they also had similar views and an equally stocked unit. The furniture in theirs was a bit dated. We cooked a couple of meals in and had all of the supplies we needed. The check in process was quick and easy and a very nice gentleman helped us with our luggage. Parking is only steps away and coming and going was super easy. Whalers Village is right next door with ample stores and restaurants. Although maid service doesn't come in daily, we were provided a check list to give to the front desk if we needed anything during our stay. We dropped the list off in the morning requesting more towels, toulet paper and shower products. By the afternoon we had everything delivered that we asked for. I really appreciate that process since most hotels make you ask each time you need something and don't provide a simple way like this to their guests. Although our units did not have a washer or dryer, each floor had complimentary ones to use. The grounds are kept super clean and we loved looking at the fish in the pond. Even the guys working at the towel/gear rental were awesome. Being a guest at the property allowed us complimentary use of the beach chairs which was great. (Not the lounge ones, but the regular upright chairs). The lounge chairs and cabanas came at an additional price. I really have no complaints during my stay. The only thing I can note is that one out of three elevators was out of service during our stay. I believe another unit on the 5th or 6th floor was in the process of moving furniture. Sometimes waiting for an elevator took a while. Overall, I highly recommend this property and don't anticipate staying anywhere this nice again soon! read more

The Whaler Condos are the best. Whether you rent from an owner or through The Aston doesn't matter. This place is perfect with the great location and wonderful staff. We came in spite of Covid and we are happy we did. I feel safer here than at home. Everybody wears masks and they wear them properly. No exposed noses or masks hanging around necks. Only two to an elevator and hand sanitizer stations all over. Wear your mask to the beach and then socially distance and take them off. All the people here, staff and visitors alike, are careful and courteous. Many good restaurants close by as well as the Whaler Village shopping next door. read more

This hotel is amazing and met our needs for our four-day-stay. Although we were on the second floor, I was amazed at the beautiful view of the Kaanapali Beach to our left. When we first arrived, they greeted us very kindly. Concierge took our luggage and held it somewhere safe since we were going to check in and go straight to our first tour on our itinerary. Check in was very smooth. We were provided detailed instruction and information. Our room itself had a kitchen, a living room, and room. The restrooms were equipped with all restroom needs. The hotel is in walking distance to the beach. The pool has amazing water temperature lukewarm water. One of our keys had issues but they were very nice in replacing it. This hotel made our stay very nice for our first time in Maui, Hawaii. Can't imagine staying at any other resort in the future. read more

This is a great property in an awesome location and hard to beat. Very nice beach right in front with awesome snorkeling at Black Rock just a 5 minute walk. Whalers Village shops and good restaurants literally next door. Easy to drive north or south to explore. Lov ed the roomy hottub. I think the rooms can vary widely in quality though. Some are remodeled and very nice others might be dated. The location is critical some have terrific views others have barely any. We stayed on the 12th floor one unit from the ocean. The vieew awesome but the unit was old and tired. The worse part was we were right above the Hulu Grill and the noise from the fans was really obnoxious you couldn't even here the ocean above them. We had to keep the sliders shut the whole time and it really wasn't enjoyable to sit on the lanai. But knowing what we know we will be back and select a better location next time perhaps facing Black Rock. read more

This was a new location for us to stay on Maui and our first trip anywhere since COVID. We picked The Whaler because of the views and its close proximity to activities near and on the beach. Upon our arrival we were greeted by staff who appeared genuinely happy to have us there. The check in process was easy and brief and the condo we had chosen was fantastic. While their COVID compliance information was posted all over and sanitizing seemed to be taking place at all times, there were still guest and housekeeping staff not wearing masks and there didn't appear to be anyone enforcing it. One of the negatives is the pool and hot tub area. It does not seem to be large enough for the facility. Attempted to use it several times, but it was filled to capacity with obnoxious teens. The Whaler offers basic beach chairs at no charge to its guests, but you can upgrade for a fee. Overall, I would recommend The Whaler as a great location to relax and unwind. read more

My wife and I just came back from a 5-night stay at The Whaler. We rented unit 1063 in Tower 2 and were very happy with it. This studio unit was perfect for the two of us. The Whaler is a recently renovated fairly generic-looking but very well maintained condo complex. You can rent units from the owners or through the Aston like a hotel. We chose to go with a private party we found on http://www.vrbo.com/108142 since it was less expensive and we knew which unit we'd be getting. Bill, the owner of the unit we rented kept it in excellent shape. It was the nicest condo we've ever rented for vacation and was the most fully equipped and stocked. The Whaler is situated at an excellent location right on beautiful Kaanapali Beach near Black Rock in Lahina. It is walking distance to multiple restaurants and shops. You can snorkel, paddle board or sail directing from the beach. Their pool is adjacent to the beach which is great. You have to pay $12.50 a day to park if you rent a car, so be prepared for that. Also, be sure to be on an upper floor if you're in a unit facing the Whalers Village shopping complex next door since their mechanical exhausts and music can be a bit noisy. We came to this hotel because our son is getting married on the island of Maui at the Ritz. Our room is located in the very corner at the bottom floor to my wife and I surprised it was very secluded and quiet. The room itself was very roomy with a full kitchen and two full baths. The room was decorated in Raton with Berber carpet. You had access to RN Lanai through the bedroom through the front room and through the dining area. This hotel based on the other hotels we had the opportunity to visit had the shortest walk to the ocean. It is located next to Whaler's Village which has great shopping opportunities. You have the option to park Underground or in the adjacent parking lot area next to the hotel. This is a fantastic place we will be back definitely!!!! read more

We've stayed at this hotel 3 times during the past few years on our vacations to Maui. It's a pretty decent place. Each room is different because they are considered "condos" and each is individually owned. We like this place because it is one of the more reasonably priced hotels on Kaanapali, and we basically need a decent place to sleep and shower at the end of the day since we're out on the beach and around town from the time we wake up til it's time to call it a day. The rooms we stayed in each had a kitchenette, which was great because a couple of mornings we stayed in and made breakfast. I can also see how it would be great for families too. Housekeeping is supposed to come make up your room daily (unless you specifically tell them not to) and we never had a problem with that til our most recent stay here, when there were 2 days they did not come by and when we called the front desk they said housekeeping had already gone home for the day, sighhhhh. We did not call the front desk til later in the afternoon cuz we were out on the beach since the morning, and happened to go back to the room to change clothes and grab some other stuff we needed and that's when we saw the room had not been made up. But overall we still like this hotel and it's very likely we would go back. read more

Great location and views. Ones looks out at the islands of Molokai, Lanai and Kahoolawe from north to south. Opposite there are mountains covered by verdant trees. There is a walk just off the beach which is good for running or walking. If you run start around 5-7 as it does get crowded. Towards the south in the beach there is the Starbucks with the best view. If you like to snorkel jump into the water opposite the building. Shallow coral with many fish. Tour catamarans stop on the beach for snorkeling lunch or sunset tours. At the north end is the famous Black Rock. Wonderful snorkeling or scuba diving. Can scuba at night in a relaxed atmosphere. You can learn to surf as well just off the beach. Too much fun. read more

MASSIVE amount of noise and we were told that we should have know. We used VRBO and got an AMAZING ocean front unit but the downside is that they could not move us. For over 30 years, I been coming to The Whaler to stay. Although it is starting to look a bit dated from the exterior, you stay here for one reason - the location. Its the best location on Kaanapali Beach bar none. It is one of the most beautiful, cleanest beach spots in the world. The two tower complex is adjacent to Whalers Village, a large shopping complex where you can run downstairs to shop, eat, and drink. Don't ignore this one convenience. There have been many nights I simply wandered downstairs to get a great meal at the Hula Grill and Leilani's, have some truly good yogurt and ice cream at Haagen Daaz, get some sunscreen and snacks at ABC shops, poke my head in and say "hi" at Monte Fitts Realty, and buy a few t-shirts at my favorite store, Crazy Shirts over the years. You get THE BEST views in Hawaii staring at glorious sunsets with Molokai and Lanai in the background. At night, the convenience of walking the beach and watching the divers jump off Black Rock, do a little fishing off the rocks in the early morning, stroll around the Kaanapali grounds to nearby hotels, play a round of golf at world reknown Kaanapali Golf Course, get in a few sets of tennis during the day. Everything is here and within walking distance. The only time you need to jump into a car is to drive down to the local grocery store to stock up on food or visit Lahaina to shop/dine/yap with the friendly locals. Oh and don't forget to stop off at Hard Rock Cafe too. Its all very simple. Convenient. Relaxing. Stress free. Just what a vacation is meant to be. read more

Nice place. Let's review, shall we? Pros: Great location on Ka'anapali. Close to Whaler's Village. On the beach. Pool. Hot tub. Really pretty pond and waterfall. I can only comment on room #974, but the condos were nice. Spacious, clean, well stocked, awesome balconies, full kitchen, not super outdated. Quiet. Fast elevators. Bath tubs! It's hard to bathe a baby in the shower. Lol. Rentals for the beach. Relaxing paved promenade the extent of the beach. Cons: There was early construction going on nearby that ruined being able to listen to the surf from our room. Not really the hotels fault as it was next door. This area of beach has some very rough surf at times. Again not the hotel's fault. The pool has no shallow spots other than the steps. It immediately goes to 4 ft. The pool can be very cold at times! Even though it's hot out, the trade winds make it really cold. Parking in the garage fills up quickly. All in all, I really enjoyed this hotel. Staff was pleasant and not intrusive. Great location to explore other nearby beaches. I would definitely stay here again. read more

The Whaler consists of two condo towers and is privately owned. You can usually find something to rent here via VRBO or other similar sites. The location is prime. You can't beat it. You're right next door to Hula Grill and Whaler's Village. You can walk all the way up to Dukes (over a mile) and down to where the beach ends on the south end (about another mile). The best units are interior facing, meaning in a unit that faces one of the other towers. Tower 2 south facing over looks Hula Grill and the noise does carry up. Just about every unit is ocean view, obviously some better than others. There are plenty of amenities available via the concierge desk or you can walk down to other hotels and buy the services of the vendors there (like Trilogy or SUP vendors.) There is a business center as well as laundry on each floor. Trash chutes are on each floor as well. We rented a ground unit and were literally 100 feet from the ocean. Quite nice. We had less overall view, but a much easier time getting to the water. There is underground parking that fills up around 6 PM so you'll have to park in an outlying lot and walk about 500 feet. Not bad, but not covered. It's gated access so you don't get rif raf parking in your spot. If you're the condo staying type, this is the best location in Lahina. While I can't speak to every unit, the overall complex is fantastic. The beach in front is public but there are showers just outside each building. The pool and spa are beachside. There are BBQ's on the lawns outside too. It appeared to be a bit on the geriatric side, but I'm not a partier where I sleep and eat so that didn't bother me. read more

The Whaler has an awesome location right on Kaanapali Beach, next to Whalers Village and just a short walk to Black Rock the highlight of Kaanapali Beach (my opinion ). It's privately owned condos that can be rented directly from owners via an easy Google search. We stayed in building 1 condo 112 which has a patio directly looking at Black Rock (Highly recommend first floor as its so easy in an out avoiding elevator or stairs). My aunt had booked time here which she invited us to come since her husband could not make it. The grounds are imaculate, always maintained & the service is friendly. The bellboy, whose name I did not get, was so friendly & welcoming; he even taught some Hawaiian as he showed us our unit. Everyone from the front desk staff to pool staff is wonderful, leaving nothing to chance. Daren, their maintanance man came to unclog our shower & was very thorough & friendly. The pool is wonderful, though I think they need to fix the heating as it flucuated. I love how it is a stone's throw from the beach & half a block from the Whler Village Shopping center. I love the complimentary pineapple iced tea; very refreshing on a warm day. They even have a fitness center which we looked at, but did not take advantage of since we were walking a lot. So, for a wonderful experience in Maui, Whaler Inn cannot be beat. Keep up the good work guys. read more

We loved this place! Of all the places we stayed in during our visit to Hawaii, from Airbnb's to five star resorts, this was our favorite! The unit was lovely, the people that work there are incredibly friendly and the vibe in general is laid back, fun and family friendly. The only negative experience we did have was with One Fine Stay, the booking agency we used to plan our visit. They are only intermediary agents who primarily work from home in the continental US. If you want to book a stay at Whaler, which I recommend, go directly through the Whaler management offices. Their website is Vacation-Maui and the Whalers Investment Group offices are located up the road from the property in the Fairways Shopping Center. So if anything goes awry you will have people there on the ground to respond. Forget using One Fine Stay - we had a really frustrating experience with them and they were very rude to us when we pointed out a miscommunication with one of their agents that cost us $400. It's not necessary to book with them anyway. read more
