Very nice 6 acre private Botanical Garden about a mile from the coast. Very well kept up with great labels and plant exhibitions. There are restrooms and water is available. If you a free hour, it's definitely worth a visit.

This is just my opinion, but I feel like there isn't much at this garden. We paid $20 for two for a quick stroll around which took about 20 minutes. There really isn't much and at least during my time there were literally no pretty plants. This kind of reminded me of someone's backyard more than a garden. Realistically feel like this should be free or $5 but I get donating for nature isn't too bad either just don't expect much. Parking - Street parking next to the garden.

I've only been here for Ho'omau but took my little one while we were walking at Keopuolani Park. It was empty with lots of plants to see. The pavement is all busted. I know it used to be a zoo back in the day. It is nice for a family stroll because it is super peaceful and there are a lot of trees with lots of shade. They offer classes and they have plant sales here from time to time. Check it out.

Great botanical garden with all the different Hawaiian plants. It was small but it was interesting to walk around and look at all the plants. Plenty of side street parking. My favorite are the fruit trees and the chickens!

Lovely experience! This botanical garden focuses primarily on education on native species and their uses. This is NOT a garden focused on showy blooms, so be aware of this when you go. If you're interested in botany and historic uses, this is the place to go.

Maui Nui Botanical Gardens is an unexpected beautiful hidden garden off of Kanaloa Ave that is an easy miss, with only parking along the road. My husband and I came by here on a Tuesday afternoon. I had thought this park was free, based on the Yelp reviews (but from the website, free admission occurs on Saturdays. And when we came through the main entrance, there was a laminated sign that said admission was based on suggested donation. However, we also saw another sign that showed admission to be $5 per person (well worth the price). However, when we checked in at the office, the employee behind the desk just asked for $5 total for the both of us. Then this employee told us to pick up an audio wand for the audio tour (which is included in our admission). The audio tour was very easy to use and very informative. You can learn about a particular plant/ tree and also how to care for that plant/ tree as well (this additional information is optional). It was nice to learn about the national state tree of Maui, which plants and seeds were used to make leis, bowls, etc. My husband and I ended up staying here for a little over an hour walking through the garden and listening to the audio tour. One thing I do want to mention that the garden is not covered and is rather sunny. So be sure to bring a hat or umbrella to shade your face and wear some sunblock. I also want to mention that according to one of the signs at this garden that leashed dogs are welcomed to this garden. There are also restrooms at the front of the garden (across from the office to check in and pay for the admission), which were clean upon this visit.

I attended the Lā 'Ulu 2019 Breadfruit Festival at the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens today. This is truly a local event intended to enable residents and visits alike to (re)gain a sense of traditional Hawaiian culture and customs. This free community event included food booths, breadfruit cooking demonstrations, Pacific 'ulu varieties for sale, Hawaiian plant sale, free cultural activities, Hawaiian music and hula! Visitors had the opportunity to attend cooking demonstrations, taste a wide variety of 'Ulu recipes (including hummus, curry, chips and desserts. A wide variety of not-for-profit cultural and environmental and educational organizations took advantage of the opportunity to share their respective purpose, accomplishments and vision. I found the festival to be enlightening, relaxing and fulfilling.

Hard to find but so worth it - and free. Grab a volunteer or join a tour to show you round and explain all the fascinating native Hawaiian plants and what they mean to the people. Cut down some sugar cane, and turn a crank to squeeze some cane juice for yourself - delicious. We learned so much, and it was free. You leave this place with a sense that people really care about the natural plants of Hawaii, that these volunteers want to pass on what's important about their culture and land, and that appropriate landscaping can save a lot of precious water.

I really wanted to like this place, but the place can be better described as a "work in progress". The gardens felt very empty and there was no one around to collect entrance fees (though they accept donations). Perhaps I am just not well versed in the plant language, but the place seemed a little sad. I'd be happy to visit again once this place is maintained more frequently, otherwise I wouldn't make the drive here again and especially not for $10.

Its beautiful, but so is the rest of the island.

Meh. It was interesting if you're looking to figure out what the names of some of the plants you've seen around the island, but as a destination, we were underwhelmed. Certainly not worth the money for admission. Even if this place was free, I'd probably still consider it time wasted. You can zip in and out in 30 mins. I would have equally enjoyed some time at a nursery, or in the plant section of the local Home Depot.

More like a retail nursery than a Botanical Garden. Small and not much to see. Nice place for a picnic maybe but if you are driving any distance to see, not really worth the time.

Yay! Park across the street (in the stadium parking lot) and walk over for a few hours of experiencing indigenous Hawaiian plant life. We met the groundskeeper who taught us how they make those kukui bead necklaces and what they do with kukui nut oil (which smelled amazing - like a lighter version of coconut). He was super friendly and helpful. There are bathrooms, which are convenient, and you can pick up a tour guide map for $4.00, which isn't bad considering there is no entry fee to visit the park.

Very limited tiny garden. Not worth the $10 entry fee. You get better views of the native Hawaii plants driving on the road.

Honestlt those sweet potatoes took me by surprise! really lovely flavor there. Even the bacon and sausage were yummy. Fresh juice that they served was really delicious. It was a blend of three different juices (I don't remember which exactly they were) but quite nice. They also had a nice store there with local coffee and food and produce and what not. Husband and I got some fresh pineapple and also a salad for later in the day which came in handy! Overall also a beautiful place to walk around! So peaceful and scenic with birds around too.

The positives: the grounds have a lot to offer, between ziplining, shopping, and food! We ate at the restaurant and the food was clean and tasty, plus the views are lovely! The issues: upon being seated, a server accidentally dropped the water tray all over us, shattering glassware and drenching us. This in itself is not the issue, as clearly it was an accident. Our issue came with how the management handled it. The server was apologetic and then was not seen again; we were worried he got fired! Other than the initial apology, no concessions were offered, even after we discovered my husband had a bit of glass in his arm. Management never came out to address what had happened and when we asked to speak to manager, he mentioned he had heard water was spilled on a customer. You'd think he would check in on us or maybe comp something small, like the dessert we ordered. Ultimately the customer service is the reason I would not eat here again.

When we met him, he immediately committed our names to memory, and treated us like old friends all day. Kea did an amazing job of connecting with our 6-year-old son and kept him involved throughout the tour. I've done the Road to Hana twice before, but this was easily the best. Kea showed us things we hadn't seen, gave us interesting history lessons, and taught us a lot about the Hawaiian language and culture. He continually went above and beyond to make our tour unforgettable. I would encourage everyone to experience the Road to Hana, but it's so much better when you don't have to do the driving.
