It's adjacent to Burger King x Pu'unene Ave. Over the years it's has become a regular local stroll featuring a Maui Big Band orchestra playing 5pm-7pm with great singers and songs peppered with a nice representation of food trucks and vendors. There is a wide variety of vendors selling cheap to moderate eats, mostly local dishes. Nice vibe with plenty of young adults and families strolling around. Late Sunday afternoon and evening make Kahului, Maui a sleeper town, as businesses shut down for the weekend. The Maui Sunday Market in Kahului takes its place, with some 40 food trucks parked in one area from 4p to 8p in providing food and entertainment for those seeking a meal when everything else in the town is closed. Sponsored by the Maui Food Technology Center, this non-profit organization educates and creates opportunities for entrepreneurs seeking to earn a living via value-added products and/or cultural practices and environmental sustainability. As such, the Sunday Market was started in July 2018 to help stimulate and revitalize the Kahului community by allowing local residents and tourists to gather each week to share stories and experiences. Being that this was its 4th anniversary, we looked forward to eating from the food trucks, listening to local music entertainment of Leo Kani and Inside Out, and playing bingo. We decided to go early at 4p to find close parking and avoid the crowds, which I'm glad we did; however, the hot afternoon sun made it uncomfortable to stick around, despite having picnic tables under shaded tents. As we walked around the perimeter of the food trucks to decide what we would get, we decided on the following and took them home to eat: * Grilled chicken on garlic noodles (Al's BBQ Pit). Great garlicky noodles with tasty grilled chicken. * Hot dog with mango and spicy onion sauce (Sumo Dogs Maui). A good-sized 10-inch hot dog in a soft, sweet brioche bun pushed in from the top. The sauce was a little too sweet for the hot dog, as we would have preferred the normal mustard, ketchup, onions, and relish. * Poke (Mau Mau'z Kau Kau). Spicy poke over salad greens with sliced cucumbers, avocado, green onions, round onions, fried onions, and sesame seeds, drizzled with a spicy sauce. There was no way we could have tried all the food trucks, as it would require numerous visits to try each one. There was a good variety of food trucks and booths selling various items that included: * Shaka Tacos * Bring Um Out Grindz (pineapple boats, hula plates, shrimp, fries, desserts) * Pastele House * Sweet Cravings * Yellow Belly (hot dogs, nachos, lemonade) * Gianna's Baked Goods (granola, energy bars, cookies, mochi, party mix) * Cactus vendor * Maui Mui Grindz (local plates lunches) * Jewelry vendor * Flippin Out Maui (Filipino foods) * Take It Icy (ice cream, shave ice) * Li hing snack vendor * Holo Holo Garlic Noodles * Hawaiian souvenirs * Saszdcreations (handbags) * Taste of Aloha * Yumtastic (iced treats, stuffed strawberries, beverages, cotton candy, apples, funnel cakes, truffles) * HI Freeze Treats (freeze dried candies) * Dish scrubbies and head bands vendor Note that not all vendors are permanent, as some come and go, with new vendors also starting their businesses. We found the owners and staff of these food trucks and vendors to be very friendly, attentive, and eager to please. Now located on Hana Hwy (starting from 7/10/22) in a large private parking lot that formerly housed 24 Hour Fitness in Kahului, there is free admission and free parking. What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon in seeing what these food trucks and vendors have to offer. This is a good way to support local businesses, as well as to get some needed grub and shopping items on a Sunday evening when most other businesses are closed. Wow, a year makes a huge difference... Quality/Quantity - This place was hopping last year, so we went out of our way to come back this year. We really came here for the mochi by Honey and Me, but they were not here. :( Probably less than half the vendors from last year. Food trucks. Local vendors. My daughter bought a bunch of gifts from "ShopDaAbilays"; not sure if he raised the prices after we left because his items are ridiculously affordable! Support the locals. Atmosphere - Plenty of free parking, last year it was really hard to get a parking space; so I guess it depends on how thriving this place is when you come. DJ was blasting his music, am I getting old? It was way too loud for me. Service - 6 stars, everyone is so friendly, and probably sadly hurting for customers. Price - Affordable. Hawai`i is all about community and you can feel it at the Maui Sunday Market this evening as it truly is the place "Where Our Community Gathers Each Sunday". Locals supporting other local businesses and welcoming of all. We made sure to do our part making a dinner and more starting with Garlic Noodles with Chicken at Holoholo Garlic Noodles , Pastele Panadeja Combo at Pastele House, poi mochi dessert from Dee's Poi Mochi and Molokai Hot Bread for tomorrow's breakfast at Molokai Hot Bread where Kalani Pe`a also stopped by that day. Only in Hawai`i would you be buying bread with a two time Grammy Winner. Make sure the next time you are on island, get away from the resorts and beaches and get to know the people, as that is what truly makes Maui special. I come here every so often. We try to visit different vendors and support a lot of food trucks. It's on Sundays we usually are there by 4 and everyone is set and ready to go. This place can get packed fast and certain vendors run out of certain things if you don't get there fast. Everyone is usually friendly. Please don't forget your mask and practice social distancing. Take your food home and eat there. As to where they don't have the Picnic tables. You can find all kinds of food trucks selling varieties of different food. Support local. If you like to go where the locals go, MAUI SUNDAY MARKET is a must-visit! There is a large free parking lot so that part of getting here is easy. And then as soon as you get of your car, you'll get hit with the live music! Live music! Awesome right?! Food trucks galore!! you get all the local foods that travel articles and blogs say you "must try", but since it's for the locals, they are more creative. No need to please the "least common denominator". Example: Guava & Lilikoi Hotdogs from Sumo Dogs?! VERY good! This Sunday Market provides a nice showing of local eats in a sizeable parking lot. We tried the food from one of the trucks and got steak tips over rice. I was driving around the area last Sunday and saw the Maui Sunday Market on the right side as I went by. I quickly made a turn, easily parked, and wandered over at about 4 or so in the afternoon. What I found were lots of food trucks, a DJ/Live Music combo, various food-related booths, and a limited amount of crafts choices. It was a lot of fun to people watch, or as much as you can in masks and 6+ feet apart. It's also gratifying to see this kind of activity going on during COVID times (especially the music), that I can only assume is State-compliant. read more

The Maui Sunday market is located very close to the Maui Mall just across the street from the HoAloha Park. There is ample parking and porta potties with hand wash station located at the far end. They feature many food trucks and local arts and crafts. It's a great place to wander around and check out the different food options. There's also covered dining area to sit and enjoy your food and listen to Live entertainment. Maui is trying to be eco-friendly and switch from styrofoam containers to compostable paper containers. Unlike Oahu where 100% of trash is burned for energy, it is my understanding that Maui still uses landfill for their trash. Good job Maui! On this particular trip, I tried the garlic shrimp platter from Al's BBQ Pit. It was $10 and it was a decent portion of shrimp and I asked for extra garlic on the rice. Delicious! We were in town so decided to check out the Sunday market. Lots of parking on east & west sides of Market. There was a big crowd but everyone was masked & being courteous about social distancing. There were about 10-12 food booths/food trucks. And quite a few booths selling lots of interesting items. Was a fun way to spend part of a Sunday evening. Had a dj playing music also. The lovely folks of the Maui Food Technology Center, a non-profit organization that brings together local farmers, students and entrepreneurs with the food industry, has started the Maui Sunday Market. Like its name implies, it happens every Sunday from 4pm - 8pm at the Kahului Shopping Center's parking lot fronting Kaahumanu Avenue. Entry is free and parking is plentiful. ATMOSPHERE: There were four rows of food trucks, food stands and vendors of all sorts. A small, covered seating area is available though seating was at a premium. Entertainment changes weekly, I believe. Unfortunately (for me and my gang) there is no beer garden. I arrived around 6:15pm and it wasn't too crowded, though I had a good 30-minute wait at the food truck I tried. FOOD TRUCKS & STANDS: I'm not sure if the vendors rotate but I read in the paper that there's a wait list for food trucks that want in on the action. Every Sunday evening I run into the dilemma of figuring out what I want to eat for dinner. The mall closes early, most food trucks are closed, and many restaurants are closed as well. Maui Sunday Market to the rescue! An effort of the Maui Food Technology Center & their many volunteers, the market brings together a collective of food trucks, crafters, artisans, food purveyors, & entertainers breathing new life to Kahului Shopping Center's parking lot fronting Ka'ahumanu Avenue. This weekly event is free and open to the public on Sundays from 4 pm - 8 pm; a prime opportunity to support local businesses for not only Maui folks, but for visitors coming from the cruise ships that dock in the nearby harbor. They initially launched on July 22nd, but I had previous engagements at the time and was bummed I didn't make it. Unfortunately for me, comedian Jo Koy apparently made an appearance there! Since then, they've grown the amount of vendors and offerings. I finally went last week and was surprised to see SO many food trucks/tents. They have it set-up with tents in the middle where you'll find different vendors and the food trucks surround the tents. In the middle of it all are tables where you can sit, eat, & watch the entertainment. I can think of at least 12 food trucks off the top of my head that was there. I went to 5 of them that night 'cause that's how I roll... Dope BBQ, Pastele House, Only Ono BBQ, Cream B, & Shorebreak Grindz. Everything I had was exceptional and I will definitely be coming back for more. I love how I have so many choices in one spot in a centralized location just minutes from where I live. I'm sure there will be more variety in the future as different food trucks get into the rotation. There were also other vendors with crafts, drinks, food, doing massages, etc. One vendor (I can't remember the name) had different flavored chocolate spreads that were incredibly delicious. Surprisingly, it was vegan, super healthy, etc. etc. Normal stuff that isn't really my jam, but man this stuff was legit. I can't wait to check out more small businesses next time around! What a great opportunity to support local! All in all, we spent about 1 1/2 hours there. Initially it wasn't too busy when we got there, but as the sun went down the crowd grew. Near "closing time" the lines were still going strong. Some food trucks sold out of things, so get there early if you have a particular truck or dish in mind! read more

I heard about this Sunday Market from my Yelp friends as well as locals in the area we were staying. We were able to walk across the street to this lot from the Maui Seaside Hotel. There was music going and a good amount of crafts/products and food vendors. If you need to use the restroom, there are only portables available. There's a hand washing station available as well. Lines were pretty long and wait times took a while too so if you're going for multiple items, best to split up. For the most part it was a decent experience. A few things were off putting about our visit here... people waiting around us in the lines were way too close, tourists I suspect. Multiple vendors I looked forward to purchasing from did not show. The worst case was the Aunty at Bang Em Out Grinds with the worst attitude. I thought at first she didn't care for me maybe because I was outted as an Oahu local... but after yelling at me and telling ME to CHILL OUT, I saw her going at it with 4 other customers after me who were definitely Maui locals. Thank goodness that was the only confrontation in our entire stay on the island, but it was still enough to put a bad taste in my mouth and leave a lasting impression with my children. We were able to make it to the Maui Sunday Market before heading to the airport! We walked around for a bit to see what everyone had to offer. Then stopped by the holo holo garlic noodle truck, Patsy's lunch wagon, and Hawaiian homemade lemonade stand. The garlic noodles and Terri chicken was basically delicious chow mien garlic noodles and small cut pieces of saucey Terri chicken. From Patsys, we ordered the mochiko pork. It was pretty good. The oily goodness. Super flavorful and paired well with the noodles too. At the lemonade stand, I couldn't decide on strawberry or lilikoi lemonade. They were able to mix it both and it was nice and sour. Such a great spot to stop for dinner and other goods. read more

Before COVID there used to be a small seating area. I usually buy everything I went there for and eat at the parking lot or at home. There are many stalls available for parking. This is a nice market that really is all about the food! Yes, there are some booths with crafts and wares, but if you're coming here, be prepared to eat! There are many booths selling all kind of foods (though mostly Hawaiian/Asian fare). We snagged some corn from The Corn Project (recommend you get on the cob, not loose) and from Dee's Poi Mochi. This event is always FREE and open to the public from 4 pm - 8 pm, which is GREAT because hardly any restaurants are open on Sunday here in Kahului, Maui. This is the perfect time for locals and visitors alike (especially those from the cruise ship nearby) to gather and support local businesses and grab a really great dinner. There's also fantastic live entertainment, which makes this event a ton of fun to just sit and enjoy while you eat. The local food trucks, who keep their prices super affordable, tend to be fairly regular and show up on a weekly basis (weather and schedule permitting). We had a ton of fun, most of my favorite food trucks were here (Sparky's, Pastele House), plus ones I wanted to try (Dope BBQ, Nani Pirates), plus ones I have never seen before. This is going to happen every Sunday, so I will be back again! Lots of vendors helping Lahaina Strong with proceed donations, and donation collections. Definitely felt good. Everyone looked very happy, and people will spend a little more to support local. Today we got baked manapua, venison jerky for our doggy, lilikoi curd, and fresh fruit sorbet. They had good music, warm ocean breezes, and enticing smells of barbeque. Parking is a little rough, we had to park by Asian Cuisine and walk. Located in a giant parking lot only on Sundays (4-8 pm), this is a large area filled with various food trucks, local craft vendors, and live music. Had no idea that existed until I learned about it on Yelp. A buddy of mine, who lives on Maui said it is a popular place for the locals to go. Ended up getting some marinated beef BBQ and garlic shrimp plates. These were delicious and had very generous portions. Of course there are plenty of dessert options. The kids got cotton candy and rolled ice cream. You can eat your food while listening to some live music from a local musician. I like how the emcee/host was going out to each craft booth vendor to talk to them so the audience can learn more about the vendor and what they are selling. BUT literally there were only like 5 food trucks and a few vendors. This is a great market that is on Sunday evenings only, and is largely locals only. My favorite venders are 2 Cheesy Guys, Dope BBQ, and one of the jewelry makers (she makes stylish pearl jewelry at better prices than most others). I also love the lemonade and Molokai hot bread. It was SUPER windy the day we went. So much so, that sand blew into the food I was trying to eat. Actually the sand couldn't have made my food any worse. I got the garlic noodles and they were the worst meal of my vacation. They were luke warm at best and the chicken was tough and lacking in flavor. To top it off, I got up from where I was sitting and left behind a pineapple I'd just bought. I ran back as soon as I realized it, no more than a minute later, and of course someone had taken it. There were at least 50 people standing right there waiting in food lines, and nobody saw a thing? Not very Aloha! My recommendation is that you skip this market.
