Maui Surf Clinics and Chad were incredible. My husband and daughter had a blast and both got up almost right away. Chad was a really great teacher and taught them a lot with pointers after each wave. My daughter has fallen in love with surfing and can't wait to do it again. Dad was exhausted and super glad he did it, but it sure helps when you're in better shape. ;) None the less, Chad made it doable for him! The lady at check in was lovely and super helpful and the pics we paid for were incredible! (Get the pics - worth it!) My daughter took a second lesson two days later with a different school on Kaanapali Beach... a sad experience and no where near as good as MSC. We'll be back for a multiple day surf clinic next time, hopefully with Chad! Highly recommend! read more

Our 3rd visit back to Maui, so of course we scheduled a private lesson with Maui surf clinic again. Reef did an amazing job with Dean again and we really loved the hour and a half private lesson. The location is so easy to get to in Lahaina. Parking was easy to find on the street. We will definitely return for another lesson when we come back again. It's a small shop but you really get a very personal experience with legit surfers. Dean was doing a few tricks by then end. He LOVED it. read more

I wanted to have my daughter get surfing lesson and wasn't sure who I can call. Found this place through ny brother since his daughters had surfing lesson from this place. I called up on a wed morning, and asked if they had space available for fri and luckily they did. Arrived a little early, checked in and my daughter got surfing shoes. At 9 am, meet the instructor named Reef. He was great at teaching my daughter and my daughter also had fun too. The lesson was for 1 1/2 hours. My daughter had help in the beginning and after few times, she was able to stand up by herself for a few times. The instructor was great and very likeable. Will go back again next year. read more

We are grateful to have Dante, Conan, Ethan, Keoni, Landen and Blake, who were recommended by our friends who live (and surf) in Maui. These instructors have been surfing in Maui most of their lives, not only are they skillful in surfing and teaching, they know the local tide, reef and wind well. They have kept my 7 and 9 yo daughters, who have never surfed before, very safe. I am impressed that they are able to make surfing so much fun and engaging for my daughters. My adult daughter and I took 3 semi-private lessons through Maui Surf Clinics last week. This was my third year going out with them for multiple lessons, my daughters first. We had a marvelous experience. Everyone you interact with at MSC are friendly and helpful, be it Madison or Kat in the office, or Chad, our instructor, on the water. Chad guided us thoughtfully and patiently. He kept us safe at all times. He adapted what he was doing to accommodate our diverse ages and we learned an incredible amount. Surfing can be a humbling experience (albeit worth it), but Chad kept our spirits up, prepared us for the challenges and ensured we had a lot of fun. I have only great things to say about Maui Surf Clinics. My sister was getting a massage next door with Mina and I found myself looking into surf lessons to surprise her. When I walked in Kat greeted me. She was not only interested in booking but teaching me the importance of surfing instruction and location. As well as ocean safety and sunscreen awareness. She was friendly, kind, and informative. My lesson was booked with Billy and snowflake his Chihuahua. No worries if your afraid of dogs snowflake does not have to come but I love dogs so he was on my board for my first wave! Billy was very encouraging and helpful. I felt comfortable in the ocean and he taught me about how to be aware of the waves, reminded me of body positioning, and was just very optimistic. I booked another session with Billy and snowflake the next day before I flew back to the mainland and I was able to catch waves on my own! My son had the BEST time learning to surf with Jedi this week. Jedi was amazing with my 6 1/2 yr old and tandem surfing made his first surf experience fun and rewarding rather than scary. He loved it so much he had three surfing lessons during our trip and his confidence and ability grew with each lesson. I cannot say enough nice things about Jedi. He is amazing with kids. Our son is shy and Jedi brought him out of his shell and had him full of smiles the entire lesson. Jedi even gave our son a coconut piggy bank so he can start saving for his own surfboard. Sooo glad we chose MSC for our surfing lessons on our recent trip to Maui! I took a 2 hour private lesson with my two boys who are 10 and 11. Jason was our instructor and he was great! We all got several waves and had a great time! I initially thought that 2 hours wouldn't be long enough, but I was gassed by the time we were done! While we were in our lesson, my 7 year old daughter had a 1 hour lesson with Jedi. This guy is a truly talented instructor and was amazing...my daughter couldn't stop talking about him! As they paddles out (Chloe kneeling on the front of the board and Jedi paddling), he pointed out a green sea turtle swimming next to them. "Look! Honu is our welcoming committee," he told her. She caught multiple waves and he even helped two of them catch a "family wave," as he called it! To top it all off, we had great pictures by Frenchie, and when our younger son didn't get into any of the pics, they let us come back the next morning and he and I surfed for another hour and we were given tons of great pics of him! But today, my kids felt like the only people in the water! "Jedi" went above and beyond to make sure my family had a great time. He was patient and sweet with my children. So nice that my son wanted to bring him home with us! More importantly, the lesson was safe. I had some concerns prior to coming. My son is eight and my daughter is only six. And, even though they are both good swimmers, I was naturally worried. I am so glad we decided to give it a shot. My son surfed on his own board and my daughter rode tandem with Jedi. Best surf school for kids in Maui!!!! Jay Dog was my 5 year old son's instructor and did a fantastic job. This was an hour long tandem lesson due to my son's age. Prices are very reasonable here. Jay Dog had my son standing and ripping waves in no time!! Donavon loved it so much, he wanted to go back and rip more waves with Jay Dog the next day. The experience is relaxed and organized from the moment you arrive. We did a semi private lesson with the 3 of us and my husband has surfed his whole life. It was a short walk to a great spot with waves for all levels. We all were able to ride many waves feeling completely safe and confident. Our instructor felt like a coach and The instructors from all the shops cheer you on and give you pointers as you ride in which makes it so much fun too! What a great first-time surfing experience for my two teenagers (13 & 15). The shop is perfectly located on a popular surf spot in downtown Lahaina. The lesson started with some beach instruction from the instructor (Jedi), followed by paddling out into the break. Amazingly, Jedi had everyone standing and surfing midway through their first lesson, and begging for more by the end. We had the perfect view as spectators too, with a convenient rock wall right next to where the waves break. The lesson and whole experience was relaxed, safe and enjoyable. We left with two surfers who can't wait to paddle out again. Highly recommend this surf school and club in Lahaina. Had a semi private lesson with Billy which was awesome! Billy is a really good teacher and gives you a lot of information and how to do everything right, chill guy and great analogies to make you understand surfing. The spot is called breakwall and it was a good beginner spot, was able to have long rides and stand up a few times, even turn a little. They have soft top boards (soft top hard bottom) and provide rash guards and booties, the boards worked out real well it wasn't too hard to paddle out and it didn't hurt to be on top of them. I had an amazing day learning to surf with Kat at Maui Surf Clinics. From the moment I walked in the door, the staff was full of smiles and aloha and it got better once the lesson began. Kat is an amazing instructor and she did an awesome job of explaining surf technique so I could understand and apply it in the water. It was my goal to catch one wave before the lesson, but thanks to Kat's guidance I stood up on my first shot and was able to ride a bunch of waves during our session. Kat was encouraging the whole time. I learned how to paddle to catch thew aves myself and even how to turn. Whats more, Kat brought her GoPro and captured some videos and photos of me riding my first waves. The surfing was so fun and I felt really successful. My husband and I took surfing lessons on our honeymoon and it was so much fun! They are extremely knowledgeable and very relaxed (of course!) Quick note: they gave us rash guards, which was great because we didn't bring out own. Our instructor was Jedi and he was so amazing. He was very clear in his directions and was very positive when giving you feedback. First, he gave us the instructions on land, and then he took us out into the water. We were supposed to have a group session, but it somehow turned into a private lesson with him, me, and my husband. At first, I was really struggling. I just couldn't pop up for the life of me but he kept encouraging me and told me it's okay if I just surf on my knees, so long as I was enjoying myself. However, I kept trying and finally was able to stand up. The best part was that Jedi was just as excited as I was. You can really tell he just loves what he does and wants to share it with others. I highly recommend Maui Surf Clinics if you are looking for surf lessons. Super important tip: Put an EXCESS amount of sunscreen on the back of your legs, or suffer the consequences! read more

I highly recommend this place for surfing lessons! C was able to book a last minute group lesson for us during our vacation in Maui! Although it was a group lesson, it was only us, so it was more of a private lesson with the group price. This place was super close to our hotel and close to downtown. Our instructor was Jedi and he's so chill!! He's what I always imagined a surfer dude would be- really chiil, cool, friendly, and easy-going. In addition, he was also a great instructor that taught us about water awareness and by the end of the lesson, C and I were able to ride the wave! In the lesson, they will provide you with a long sleeve surfing shirt to wear for sun protection, water shoes. and surf board. At the end of the lesson, you can rinse off in their outdoor shower and head back to the store where they present you with a certificate! You can rent boards and go out on your own as well. I highly recommend this place if you even remotely want to try out surfing! The water was shallow, so you can stand if you fall in the water. But try not to because you'll kill the corals! read more

I understand I booked last minute during a busy season but I was promised 1 instructor per two kids. I had 4 kids but only had 1 instructor. I did not get any longer time and each kid had to wait in the water in the scorching sun until one kid was finished catching a wave from afar, then the other kid would be called in to go swim to the specific area where the instructor was allowed to teach. Since it took so long, kids did not pay attention from far away waiting for the instructor to call them, so you could imagine just how much time was wasted. Waste of money. If you were short of instructors be honest about the realistic time each kid can get for the hourly pay, which is pretty steep for catching just one or two waves. They learned nothing and our whole morning was wasted. read more

Jedi is nothing short of...well...a Jedi. We have 2 boys ages 7 and 9. We did 3 days of lessons and they loved every day. Aside from teaching the boys how to surf he also taught them "about surfing". A little history, the different parts of the board. How to respect the equipment and the ocean. He also made sure have them do their own paddling, and assisted when necessary but not all the time. We appreciated this particular part of his coaching. He has a great personality, communicates well with kids and parents easily. We look forward to seeing him again on our next visit. read more
