Hands down the best experience. The instructor was tough on us which we appreciate as it helped us try harder. The photographer Kai gave us the best pictures from the experience and ended up being the best photos from the entire trip. My Kitesurf Instructor Martine, was knowledgeable, patient, and easy to understand. He was able to access my initial experience level, and progressed his instructions according to my abilities. At no time was I uncomfortable with the progression of my lessons, the surroundings of where the lessons took place, or the equipment selected for my instruction. I live on the island of Oahu and went to Maui for my lessons because of the better wind and learning conditions available there. Unfortunately due to poor weather I was unable to complete all my lessons before returning to Oahu. If I should return to Maui for further instruction I would definitely contact Action Sports Maui and request to have Martine as my Kitesurf instructor. -tw read more

My kids (ages 11 & 15) had an AMAZING experience with Action Sports (Surf Club Maui)!! They were able to get up on the board on the first try. It was really well organized and the surf instruction was incredible. Out instructor, Jonathan, was so patient and helpful. My kids loved every minute. He did such a great job teaching them, that they were able to get up on a surf board on their own the next day when we rented them. Highly recommend!!! read more

[this was a draft review sitting in my queue since 2012 !] We've had good experience with action sports. We took windsurfing intro class and it was great. We learned few basic techniques and had lots of fun. Our group was just three persons - me, my spouse and some random guy. We didn't have to take our gear anywhere, it was on parking lot near beach. Why not five stars? Because opening time is really off. We've been there in mid of may which is slow season. Yelp page said opens at 8 am, so we were there from 8 am waiting till 10 am for Susan to show up. She was very nice though and gave us discount. read more

I searched different kitesurfing schools in Maui and I choose Action Sports on kite Beach and I was extremely happy about my choice! Owners and Instructors are so passionate and professional!! I arrived at a 2i little bit more than beginner level and after 5 lessons I left as a 3 level fully indipendent able to ride upwind and do transitions!! Amazing!! Let it be known that neither I nor the husband have ever placed foot on a waterboard, ever. So we were looking for a company that had a little more 'education' in its 'lesson'. oh, you crazy mainlander, you. No, you haul your crap to the beach, you're shown a few (essential) techniques, and then thrown into the water. They advertise a max of 3 people per instructor -- we had 5. I was given a little more attention to start (as I was clearly the weak link in the group -- mine should have been called a swimming lesson instead of a windsurfing lesson). but then was ABANDONED to my own unbalanced activities while the 'instructor' paced the beach and chatted with onlookers. Let's just say that the 2 instructors employed by a separate outfit, in charge of the 3 novices surfing next to us, were the heroes of the morning. Since they were the ones, in the water, on their boards, shouting out instructions to me. read more

Action sports taught me well! I took a day course on Kiteboarding with them and I had a great time and learned a ton. I forget the name of the instructor, he was an older guy with long hair, but he taught me all the basics and had me out in the water practicing with the kite in an hour. I learned to tack, control my direction, control the kite and perform an emergency sail to shore. When I came into shore, I made sure to ask him lots of questions about how to improve my kiting. I have to say the winds were very strong in Maui and if I was not into much of a challenge, it would be a bit overwhelming out there. For me though when I was being jolted out of the water and catching air, it was just a big thrill! I wish I could've taken more than one day of classes though because you need at least 2 or 3 days to get on the board and really kiteboard. read more

Starting with the good- I did appreciate that they were able to accommodate us last minute. We booked the same day. However, we were not told that we would not be actually getting on a board for the kiteboarding lesson. We sat on the beach for the great majority of the lesson with the kite. I felt that if this would have been communicated to me I would not have paid $360 and spent our last hours on Maui doing this. The teacher was nice but disorganized. She was not there when we arrived and didn't have the correct pump for the kite. We waited while she ran all over the beach to try to find someone else to pump it up. Overall it was a waste of our last little bit of time on the island and money and I would not recommend it unless you fully understand what you will be doing. read more

I took a kitesurfing lesson this summer right before the storm of the decade, or not. My goal was to get me into jibing. In just about an hour David got that fixed for me. They gave the right advices and gear to make it happen (convincing me to with only one strap was key here). I got exactly what I wanted from my lesson and it has been way easier than I expected. I had tried for weeks to teach myself to jibe but a mix of not the proper gear nor the execution order was failing me. I've also took a beginner surfing classes which went super smoothly (if you forget the worn-out booties :P). I ended up doing much better than anticipated. It was a lot of fun. Took 3-day course with this outfit. Although friendly enough, the lessons lacked in expertise and professionalism. Troubleshooting and precise teaching skills lacked greatly. I was hoping for lessons from a professional coach/instructor, and this is not the outfit for you. I brought my displeasure to the owner of the company, who is there nearly every day, and it was blown off completely as if that was the way it was supposed to be. If a customer is paying $700 for lessons, I believe they deserve the absolute best, and most invested instructors. I would check elsewhere if you are serious about learning the right way to do this sport. read more

I took a kiteboarding lesson with Brian, who was very helpful and knowledgeable. They use Naish equipment. They seem to have the largest operation on Maui judging by the number of instructors. A small bonus is that they have a fresh water tank at the base truck to rinse yourself and your gear, for a less salty ride home. read more

Went from only riding twin tip, to loving directional strapless and learning a ton. Kids took first lesson with Ed and had a good experience. M 11 yr old grandson took the surfing class and loved it. He was able to stand on the first wave he tried. I highly commend his instructors. My grandson was quite nervous about going out in the ocean as he is scared of sharks. His instructors were great in calming his fears. In just a few waves he was saying "I need to get a surf board". I tried to arrange a windsurf lesson on Maui last week. I left a voice message at the office number, from the website. I left my information and asked for a return call to discuss options for the date/time/weather. They did not return my call. I then texted the phone number from the website inquiring about the lesson. They replied to the text and then I replied with my availability and inquired about the weather. I did not receive a text back. I later went to a local windsurfing shop and asked their opinion about the best place to take a lesson. They said "Action Sports is flakey". I enjoyed a great kiteboarding lesson with David. He took a friend and I through all the basics and had us out on the water with the kite on our own within a couple hours. They work through the IKO training organization and they provide you documentation on what you have learned so far. This allows you to continue your training at another IKO site and they will know what your training level is. The staff goes where the wind is so you may not reach them by phone/txt right away. It is worth the effort to make it happen though. Highly recommended. read more

I have contacted them via text, email and phone to ask for a refund (they owe me almost $300), and no response. This occurred on March 20th. It's now April 24th. I will never use this company again. And I would never recommend using this company. read more
