Here's the longer-ish story of what happened in between the amazing trip and my nightmare one star review. Friends of ours contacted Vicky with intentions to meet us out in Maui. Upon checking our reservation, Vicky told our friends that our condo was no longer reserved for our dates because the owner had changed. We had no notification of this or when it happened. If our friends hadn't inquired, we would have never known until the check in instructions the week before leaving or perhaps not at all. That is when she finally gave us the option for a full refund, but this was after we had rebooked our flights/cars/PTO after being told we couldn't get a refund back in May 2020 when we rescheduled to May 2021. Anyhow, Jake at Aloha Vacation Villas made everything right and totally worth our while. The villa we were relocated to was nothing short of amazing. Although we had a 5-star experience in the end, I have to dock a star for the long, tedious initial experience and poor organization/communication by Vicky in the beginning of all this.

From our 30 plus years of experience, they are the most flexible on date changes and they make sure that everything is working before we arrive. Occasionally something breaks, usually our kids or ourselves. When I call for maintenance assistance, the Aloha owner, Jake, answers the phone himself. They immediately dispatch a repair person to fix the problem that same days. I would always recommend Aloha is you are looking to rent a condo in the beautiful Kapalua condo and villas

We stayed in Koa Lagoon #406 from April 18-25, 2026. Upon arrival, we discovered a leak in the…read morebathroom ceiling and reported it on April 19 by phone and text, including photos of the leak. Maui Life Realty said they would expedite a fix, but nothing was done. We followed up on April 22 with no response. On April 23, we asked for a manager's contact and were told to keep texting, with no escalation and no manager's contact information. On April 24, we requested a refund--again, no response. The leak continued the entire stay, dripping water of unknown origin (likely from the bathroom of the unit above) while we used the toilet. It was unsanitary and extremely unpleasant, but the only bathroom available. It appears the issue existed before our arrival. Maui Life failed to fix it, move us, or offer compensation before we left. We have photos and texts documenting the leak and communications. I would not recommend this unit or management company.

This was one of those times. It was an unusually cold Maui night so I used the blanket under the sheets. We left early in the morning and had lots to pack, so I didn't see the blanket under the sheets. We went from the room to the car to the airport and I don't carry my blanket outside of luggage. Hence as soon as I realized it was missing, I knew it was in the room. I felt comforted by the fact I left it at the hotel, bc it meant I just had to contact them to ask for it back. WRONG. Todd/Ian claimed their cleaners did not find anything. They would not let me reach out to the cleaners and even began to gaslight me and say "hope you find your blanket". And telling me that it's FACT that the blanket was not left there, when they are not even present when the cleaners clean the room. It was a vintage handmade blanket so there's a possibility it was taken by their staff. I can't be sure though, it's possible it was carelessly tossed. Either way, I am not able to get it back, and while it was my bad for leaving it in the room, you never expect this to happen from a business. I wouldn't have taken as much time or effort to get this back from them if I wasn't 100% positive it was left in the room. I'm extremely disappointed and want to make people aware that if you leave an item in the room, there's a chance you'll never see it again.

We didn't have any issues with the booking or customer service, the room was nicely decorated, and we were happy staying there. The only thing I'd mention is that the walls are pretty thin between the rooms. As long as you're not expecting a fancy hotel, it's a great place to stay for a night or two when visiting Hana. Additionally, their little farm stand has some killer mango bread. The fresh fruit juices and smoothies are good as well. I'd probably drop a star for the thin walls if it weren't for that mango bread...

Home at the Mouth…read more Private community located along the coast and not too far from downtown Lahaina. We stayed at an AirBnB here for eight days during spring break, and the place was fine for the most part, but the community it's in definitely run by people who most likely relocated from Argentina via Germany. The Good: *The community is well-kept and clean. *No matter where you stay here, you're only a few minutes walk away from ocean views. *And speaking of the ocean, there's also several beach access points. We never accessed them, but my parents did, and they said it was nice. *Pickleball/Tennis courts and three pools--including one by the ocean. *About a one-mile walk to Downtown Lahaina *Easy access to and from the Honoapi'ilani Hwy The Meh: *Staff at the Clubhouse weren't the friendliest people I've dealt with. *$10/day parking fee for a 2nd vehicle. Also, be sure to register your vehicles ASAP because I have a feeling they're on top of that. No evidence but call it a hunch. The Ugly: *$30/day to use the gym. No, that's not a misprint. *Lots of rules that only a grouchy old fuck would think of, like no using your car fob to lock your doors because of the chirps. *The pools are basically "No Fun" zones for kids. No laughing, no screaming, no running, and--for God's sake--"NO MARCO POLO," as one sign had to remind us. TLDR: Nice, albeit pricey, place to stay while visiting Maui. Fortunately, we don't stay at our base camp for long as we'd rather be out-and-about so their no fun police didn't really affect our vacation.

Two days prior to our arrival, the host emailed us to inform us that the AC unit was not working…read more They gave us the option of cancelling, but it was spring break, and likely there were no other options of finding somewhere else to stay. They told us the AC would be working by Monday. We opted to keep our reservation. The AC was not fixed until Wednesday, and we had these portable units in just the bedrooms, which were really inconvenient as the exhaust was piped through the windows and patio doors of our master bedroom so we couldn't really use the upstairs lanai - which is one of the reasons I chose this unit. Very disappointing. When the HVAC contractor came to fix he told me he didn't think these AC units had been working for "quite some time" so I felt like we were lied to and the property manager/owner had known about the issue way prior to our arrival. The unit itself is absolutely beautiful and I loved the open floor plan of the kitchen and living room. FYI there is not direct beach access as it looks. You have to walk down about a block in order to access the beach which was also disappointing. The pool was about 3 blocks from the rental. Quite the walk with all your items and a 10 month old baby and 2 kids. On Wednesday, there was some construction going on and without warning, our water was shut off at 8am. Apparently they had a planned outage but didn't notify anyone of this until about 9:30. Again, we were caught off guard and it's very difficult when you have small children with you and no water. When I called, the management company would not give me any sort of time frame on the fix and basically said sorry we don't know what to tell you. The beach was also very high surf, and not just due to the weather. The slope was very steep and not really suitable for swimming. So if you are going here with the intention of walking the beach or snorkeling, this is not the place. Tons of ants in the kitchen and even some in the bedrooms, really should get some sort of exterminator for that. This was our 4th trip to Maui, and the most I have spent on a rental, and I would say it's the most disappointed I have been. I will not rent from the Puamana rental units again. I also had called the Puamana Property management company when our water was shut off and the woman who answered the phone was extremely rude and told me she would have maintenance bring me water and they never did. She said it wasn't her problem and to contact my property owner, but Maui Vacation rentals told me to contact her. Overall just not very happy with how we were treated.

This resort is not closed, we stayed in Unit 112 from January 3-8, 2024…read more I did post a helpful review on the VRBO Website but it does not allow photos so I'm following up with Yelp. This is an extremely dated unit that is located at the side of resort and unlike the beach facing units has no view of ocean unless you crane your neck around the plywood wall on the lanai and there is an unpleasant aroma that wafts in the room through the louvered windows. There is no pool or grassy area to sit and relax. The coin operated laundry is located in an outdoor building next to some gas grills. The owner has most all available space (drawers, closet, kitchen cabinets, underneath bed, lanai) jammed with personal items leaving little room for guests. This is a very small unit and unsure how more than 2 people could accommodate (her VRBO reviews stats a family of 4 stayed there??) Our first morning we awoke to cockroaches in kitchen and a non operating coffee maker. Coffee maker was replaced on day two. The refrigerator did not seem to cool properly and ice would melt in the freezer each day. The dishwasher has a broken lower rack that falls when trying to load dishes. On day 4 the kitchen sink started leaking and once again I contacted owner. She told us to discontinue using sink and dishwasher and to do dishes in bathroom. Later that day she called my cell phone and told us to return to room to let a lady in that was going to work on drain (apparently you must always keep room key in an outdoor lock box so anyone with code can enter. And no, there is not a room safe for valuables) The garbage can from under sink was now placed in the already narrow kitchen walkway. We were unable to prepare meals for 2 1/2 days and when I asked for compensation from Linda (owner) she completely ignored me. Her retaliatory response was to give me a bad guest review on VRBO which is laughable as we swept and cleaned each day to try to keep cockroach infestation under control. As mentioned, the front facing units are lovely, some are very nicely updated. The beach itself is centrally located and perfect for relaxing.

The unit was immaculate and had everything we needed to relax including over-sized beach towels, boogie boards! and a quality hair dryer (which I never seem to be able to find at rentals). Easy Beach access, cocktail waitresses at the pools :) and having Dukes right there for sun downer cocktails was perfect! I also loved the coffee shop onsite (forget name?) and wine and convenience store was ideal for grabbing some snack and booze essentials for the full kitchen. We are already planning our next trip back!

Great location, very close/walking distance to beaches, shopping and eating. Great vacation value, and we would do it again. Full disclosure, and this is something the owners really can't control. But at night when it doesn't cool down. The bedroom is hard to cool down, because during our stay the tradewinds never kicked up enough to get the cool breeze in. So be prepared for that. Laurie and Jeff provided a lot of helpful tips and recommendations that we found very useful. They made all expectations very clear and understandable. I hate giving 5 stars because I'd like to keep this a secret so that it is available to me anytime I would like to book it. But they worked hard to make a great place to stay. ....personally I would have loved to have a cable box in the bedroom. :-)
