We decided to have Maui's Private Guide take us on the Road to Hana for the day. It was only 3 of us and Fi was our driver and guide. There had been a lot of rain the previous day and although very beautiful, we were not able to swim or get very close to the waterfalls. They are spectacular site nonetheless. The trip started at the infamous Safeway at about 8 AM and we headed towards Hana. The trip is really about just that...the trip...the adventure rather than one or two single waterfalls. Fi was a wonderful guide and host and knew a lot about the area and local culture. Our many stops took us through the lush bamboo forest, Aunty Sandy's Famous Banana Bread, a recent lava flow (1500 yrs old), an awesome trek inside a lava tube, delicious lunch at one of many local food trucks, the infamous black sand beach and much more. It is definitely worth it not to drive yourself. This will allow more time to look at all the beauty the island has to offer without worrying about keeping your eyes on the road. Mauis Private guide was the perfect Road to Hana tour for our group of nine. Prior to the trip, communication from Bryan (the owner) was frequent and excellent. our group had a diverse mix of "adventure-seekers" and Bryan did good job of reading our group and recommending appropriate activities. We chose Mauis Private Guide because the website indicated the guides are not only drivers but actually get out and join in whatever activity you want to do. For example, one of the activities we told Bryan we wanted to do was swim in a waterfall. Bryan avoided the "tourist trap" waterfall and took us to another waterfall where he put on his bathing suit, led us the best spot to enter, and joined in our fun. This was a great tour. Fiorella was a great guide. She has a deep love for Maui and is a very spiritual soul. She was an excellent driver and knew all the best spots and places to eat. Banana bread was excellent- we got 3! We also had fresh coconut drinks with some lemon squeezed in from Kai. He made us straws from local bamboo. It was a unique keepsake. Poke and fish dishes at Da Fish Shack were excellent. So was the pizza next door. We enjoyed the beauty of Hana as Fi gave us cultural history and facts. She was extremely knowledgable. My favorite was the black sand beach. It was magical for me. My father in law also fulfilled his wish of swimming in a water fall. All the kids had a great time. I love that all tours are private. Maui Wowie! It was my first time visiting Hawaii in general & Maui so I had a phenomenal experience with this Road to Hana tour! My friends and I booked this tour as a big group of 10 and our tour guide Keenan was absolutely amazing! He made sure we had a good time and I enjoyed every second of it (most importantly, he valued our safety and made sure that we felt comfortable throughout the whole tour)! The Road to Hāna tour was among the best, most interesting, most beautiful, and most pleasant trips we've ever taken. Brian, our guide, was more than amazing. He was so very helpful. I am disabled, and I need a bit of extra attention. Brian was more than up to the task, and everything he did was efficient, totally competent, and so, so friendly. I learned a lot on this tour, Brian shared so much Maui history with us! He is also very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna, as well as volcanic island formation and many other things. We are so lucky that we chose this tour. Amazing memories. About the tour: We took the "whole circle" around the entire lower part of Maui. Very worthwhile. The roads were very rough on occasion, but Brian navigated the bumpy spots expertly. We saw Hāna, of course, and learned a lot about its history and culture. The waterfalls were spectacular, and there are many. Coconut Glen's vegan ice cream was amazing, and Auntie Sandy's banana bread was fresh out of the oven and so, so, tasty! My husband and I did Road to Hana on our own back in 2009 when we came to Maui for our honeymoon. This time around, we were bringing my mom and my two sisters and I wanted to make sure it was gonna be a fantastic tour. I searched and search and found this small private tour company, booked through Bryan, and had the tour on 9/11/15 with Laura. I have to say it was the the best thing we did on Maui this year! We toured in Brutus, a dodge caravan stocked with ice cold water bottles, beach towels, sunscreen, bugspray, etc. We didn't need to bring anything except ourselves, and some change of clothes for later. Very comfy. Laura was a great driver! Let me tell you, it is NOT easy to drive those windy roads to Hana. Laura was also very knowledgeable about the Hawaiian history and the significance of different landmarks and the whole ride was like a big story time. Fascinating and very engaging. The tour was customized to what we wanted to do. My sisters wanted to do more adventurous things so we focused more of our time swimming and playing. We loved stopping by Ching's pond and jumping off rocks. We also put some shampoo flower nectar in our hair (never would've known about these flowers if it wasn't for Laura!). We drank out of coconuts we picked up on the way that Laura opened up for us. We also went CAVE diving. That was probably the most exciting thing we all ever did. We still talk about it and it's been 2 weeks since we did this! We jumped into a freshwater cave and swam in pitch dark cave tunnels! It was scary, cold, but so much fun. Laura brought a flashlight and showed us the way. We ate at Braddah huts BBQ (so good!) and we had TWO stops at Coconut Glen's for ice cream (on the way in and on the way out). YUM. There are many beautiful beautiful stops on the way to Hana and many of them are hard to find on your own. I highly recommend Bryan or Laura who are experts that will make sure you see all the beautiful things on the Road to Hana! read more

I booked a Road to Hana tour with Bryan for myself and my husband the first week of May. The reservation process was easy and Bryan is very quick to respond to all emails. I highly recommend taking this road with a private guide. It is a day geared exactly to what you want to do and they know a lot of places to go swimming and jumping off rocks into pools filled by waterfalls that you would never find on your own. It was worth every penny of the price we paid. We were picked up at 8 am from the hotel and dropped off around 6 pm happy, relaxed and ready for a great evening. We actually had Laura show us the road as Bryan was called away for an emergency. Laura did all the adventurous stuff we were looking to do. She even took my husband through an underwater cave to a hidden cavern- she brought an underwater flashlight so he could swim towards the light after she went through first. Laura is a wonderful person and I really enjoyed spending the day with her. She always made sure we were safe....making sure we didn't bonk our heads while we were watching our feet on steep pathways up or down... jumping in the water first and showing where the rocks were and where the deep water was.... Laura is also really quick to spontaneously take advantage of some new thing that happens along. We passed a guy on the other side of the road with a half dozen huge Macaws and she asked if we were interested. She turned around and it was a great experience! She had never seen this on the road side before. Apparently Bud Clifton takes his birds out here in the morning sometimes and for a $20 donation he poses the you with the birds...all highly trained birds who have been in hundreds of TV shows and movies.
