I wanted to find a close park that was actually on the lake. Lo and behold, google maps showed me Maumee Bay state park. It's nice drive a bit out of the city and get on some open roads on the way to the park. The park itself isn't big, but the boardwalks through the wetland type area is relaxing, and leads to a lookout point. Unfortunately the lookout point has a plaque naming the different smokestacks on Lake Erie that you can see (I didn't really think that should be a bragging point). It's nice to have a beach along there too. Good change of scenery considering how insanely flat toledo/northwestern Ohio is. All that being said, I don't think it measures up to Oak Openings, but still a good park. read more

I didn't get to explore this place as much as I would have liked, but the parts I saw were beautiful. I was here for a wedding, and I was able to see it on a warm, sunny day. The park has an amphitheater, which is HUGE compared to other park amphitheaters I have seen. It contained lots of seating and an extremely wide stage. However, It seemed to be a little dark and unkept in the stage area. At the top of the hill/amphitheater, you can see a lot of the park. I could see another wedding in the distance, so obviously I could see this was the ideal location in Toledo for weddings. It is right up on Lake Eerie, with a little beach area sectioned off from the grassy park. The view of the lake is extremely pretty. There was ample parking available which can be a problem for most parks. You did not have to pay to enter which was nice (a lot of parks where I am from sometimes require this if you are not a local). My only complaint of this park is that it seemed to be a little too landscaped--it was definitely more rural than the surrounding city, but trees were spread out and everything was trimmed to provide an unnaturally perfect scene. (This could be due to it being a huge wedding spot?) Definitely a nice and available park to sit near Lake Eerie. read more

I really do love Maumee bay I used to be a lifeguard at the inland lake and the entire park is so beautiful and there are so many opportunities to interact with nature, and for those who live in the city and don't get those kind of opportunities often it can be truly magical. I am going to lay some wisdom down on yall real quick though, don't bring inflatables to the inland lake because the lifeguatds have to tell you that you cant have them. The reasoning behind this rule is that the water is dark and there can be hidden hazards and the park doesnt want kids to go past where they can touch and have their floaties pop. At the park it's a one for all and all for one kind of thing so if little kids cant have them adults cant either. The rule applies to water wings,inner tubes, and noodles. When you go be sure to check out the lodge even if you are staying in the campground it is such a cool building and they have an amazing lounge with great food! There is also the boardwalk right by the lodge which takes you through the woods and it is so quiet and pretty to take a nice walk on after dinner. And when you go you should climb up the big hill you can almost see the whole park from up there and theres a bench for people to sit on, it's a great place for a picnic. read more

This review is for their lodge restaurant, which overlooks the water. You MUST stop by here for their Sunday brunch! It is spectacular. About $20 per person. I took my hubbie here for a birthday brunch instead of trying out a diner in downtown Toledo, and we were not disappointed. The ham is delicious. The waffles with warm peach topping were great. Plus a bit of prime rib. Plus a various array of desserts! We were stuffed and wanted to keep eating. read more

Stunning. The water always looks pretty and it looks like a great place to camp. Will be going again to walk and to camp.

I know right now everyone is at home and feeling isolated , but if you can get here and put your feet in the sand or ride your bike or just take a walk to clear your mind. The place is clean well maintained the staff is professional and very helpful and accommodating. We stayed there for two nights and when I tell you our batteries were recharged it was a much needed break everyone respected our personal space, it couldn't have been a better weekend. If you can get here get here you can bring a tent and sleeping bags you can bring your RV and have friends meet you there for a cookout or go to the restaurant for take out but just pack a lunch.... just get here. YOU NEED THIS!!!! read more

this place has really gone down hill, bartenders with absolutely zero experience or manners... inability to figure out touch tunes... inability to locate liquors or wherewithal to advise guests they are out... inability to ask if guests would like to see a menu upon seating or anytime thereafter. There are literally ten people in the lounge and two of them are in the weeds. It's a shame because this this resort used to be a mainstay for locals and visitors alike... even the management at front desk shrugged off their ineptitude... come for the views but be advised on the lackluster service and beyond dirty/sticky bar read more

Nice hotel but with all the lakes their exceeding state standards of bacterial levels defeats the purpose of going to this place when I came here I was looking forward to swimming in the lake and enjoying the beach but with Lake Erie and all their inland lakes again EXCEEDING STATE BACTERIAL STANDARDS I couldn't enjoy the beach PLUS half of this place is a ghost town. But also rooms were kept up in nice conditions. read more

We just got back from walking through the marsh. It was awesome. The boardwalk was a little squishy in a few places but it kept your feet dry. We saw tons of birds, frogs, and a few deer. We got great videos. Keep quiet and you'll see tons of nature. The marsh is alive. read more

On a whim, decided to drive the extra 30 min to avoid a stay at a cheap hotel. Loved it! Clean showErs, nice beaches, easy (flat) paved running trails, 2 mkles of boardwalk trails,...what's not to love? Sites are spacious, and yes, some lack privacy, but this is OHIO with flat , prarie lands. Go to Northern Mn, or further east to Poconos for privacy. read more

was in Toledo for business and need some rays. Instead of being that strange guy who lays outside your hotel window, I looked for a park. Bam lakeside, which I love being from Milwaukee and free. Cool place not too huge not too small. The "beach" that I was at was not on the lake but was the public swimming area. Sand was wet so not great. Has a resort, private pond/swimming hole feel going with a dash of the caddy shack pool scene. Worth the drive. read more

We went here for a friends wedding. The resort is right on the lake with a nice lawn and a set of stair that go straight down to the water. The main building is beautiful. Great big open areas with lots of chairs and big picture windows. The ballroom was setup for the reception with all the tables and around a large dance floor. The service staff was great. I will have to go back again to explore the main park. read more

Sites are nicely spaced with some landscape between each. Trees are immature and there is little shade at each campsite. Great to have a bike or other transport to get around the entire park or to the beach. Bath house can be a considerable distance from some sites and are basic but clean. read more

We rented a two bed cabin (#4) and it left much to be desired. We pulled up the couch cushions to see if it was a foldaway bed only to find misc. food, toys, crud, etc. Also, a dead fly on the bathroom floor next to toilet. There were still food remnants on the floor from previous tenants. the sweeper, mop/bucket and broom were just left around the main living area instead of being tucked away in a closet or porch. The bathroom door was pretty beat up as well as the screen door. A bird nest had exploded all over the entrance on the porch that we had to sweep so we didn't track it inside. The kitchen fridge was clean and stove looked brand new. The bedding was decent. The TV was strange -took forever getting a signal. Overall, the place was a bit beat up and needs some updating, but we had a good time. We had to wash all the personal bedding, etc. when we got home. Nothing felt very clean. It was Easter and we still had a good time. Next year, we will preview cabin prior to renting. Wish they had pictures on line to see the cabin layout and condition ahead of rental. Staff was very friendly and helpful, so we are willing to try again. read more

I always love going out to Maumee Bay State Park and have enjoyed it since I was young. It is large enough that even when there are crowds there is still plenty of room and you don't feel crowded. There are tons of hiking trails, area on the beach to play in the water or to lay out , fishing, a big hill to climb with an excellent View. I highly recommend going here and bringing kids. read more

Fun police at the lake beach! Amazing that no one is allowed to have anything that floats or even a pool noodle. PC police have gone too far. Maybe that is why the place is almost empty compared to what was a few years ago. read more

I highly recommend staying away from this place regarding a wedding site! Beautiful setting, however they have no problem screwing you over. When we first met with the wedding coordinator, Kendra, 13 months out from our requested day, she told us that we were the FIRST ones to inquire about a wedding on this day. However, they could no officially book us until exactly one year out - which was fine. We did every possible thing to help our chances, including her best recommendation which was to just to call and leave a voicemail that morning on that date on year prior, to request it. We booked our dj, photographer, videographer, etc., so that we did not miss an opportunity to have the ones we wanted, in hopes that Maumee Bay would have good faith and accept our requesr for that date. 2 weeks prior to the one year out date, the wedding coordinator asked us if we had a second date in mind, as someone else was now also interested in that date. We explained how this was absolutely not an option and explained our situation. We thought that was weird but they offered no other explaination. At exactly midnight on the date one year out from our wedding on 6/9/17, we called and emailed them our request. A few days later, I got an email saying that they had given the date to someone else. For any girl who has started planning her wedding, this was a nightmare and devistating. When my fiancé called, she said she had not told the other people yet that they had it, and simply told my fiancé, "It is what it is." Left no further explaination as was basically the respond from her boss and her bosses boss. No good faith whatsoever. read more

We just returned from a family reunion with 3 adults and 6 children (from 9-14) at Maumee Bay State Park. We stayed in the cottages and couldn't have asked for a better experience! The cottage had everything we needed as well as a tv and free wifi, which we never used because we kept too busy with hiking, animal watching, swimming, visiting the nature center and having a picnic in the park. The park, pool, cottage, and boardwalk were clean, accessible, and fun for everyone in our group. read more
