Went in for a set of Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires for my car and I made an appointment over the phone for a Friday. I show up on a Friday and I'm told that I was never entered into the system. Ended up being a waste of a Friday morning and I'm ordering somewhere else. Their call center in Syracuse seems to not be in sync and, besides, the staff seem to not pay attention to what's going on. I had a great experience at this Mavis. I was out running errands on Sunday when I heard a hissing as I stepped out of my car. I saw a screw stuck in my tire and knew my Sunday plans were shot. I knew the rest of my Sunday or at least the first half of the day would be sitting in the waiting area of a tire shop. So, I googled the nearest tire shop and drove it a short distance to this Mavis. To my surprise they got me right in! They had my car in the garage within two minutes. They had my tire patched within 15 minutes. On a Sunday! With no appointment! Are you kidding me?! A simple plug with no attempt to get me to buy a new tire. Even better they did not even charge me for the service. By far the best experience I have ever had at a place like this! I had a great experience through Mavis. The front brake + rotor replacement was $150 less than Mr. Tire and $300 less than Maguire Subaru for the same parts and labor, and the tires (a select Firestone model) was well reviewed online at Tirerack and were installed for $250 less than Maguire Subaru. This was the worst experience I have ever had with any tire dealer I have ever been to. I was disgusted by the customer service and the smart ass attitude that was portrayed by the check in desk. Whoever this individual was working at 11:30 on Wednesday, May 5th needs to be fired. Not only was he rude and condescending, but he made it clear that he did not know what he was talking about. He attempted to justify the price of the tires by comparing them to a totally different vehicle and size. He then explained that if the call center does not send the price quote to the desk then he can not do anything about it. We asked him kindly to contact Glenn from the call center but he abruptly refused and shouted "that's not my job". Terrible! My husband took our Dodge Ram 2500 truck to Mavis Discount Tire yesterday just to have our 4 snow tires put on. This is the most basic thing you can have done so when they said it'll be done super quick, he opted to wait rather than get something to eat. 2.5 hours later!!! My husband said he was watching the guy out the window and he was not only slow, but he had no idea what he was doing. He never asked which way we wanted to the tires to face and put the "ugly" side out, and when he was done, the low tire pressure light was on. The guy said "oh you just have to drive it to reset it." My husband, a former mechanic said, the truck doesn't work that way and that he had filled the tires with 15psi less than he was supposed to. My husband asked him why he didn't just read the manufacturers recommendation on the inside of the door and the guy said he didn't even know that was there. Turns out he didn't even know the truck was diesel either. UGH! My husband stood over him while he filled the tires further. The guy had NO CLUE what he was doing. To put 4 tires on a truck and taking 2.5 hours is absolutely ridiculous. My husband went back in to tell the "manager" how upset he was at how long it took, how incompetent the guy was, and the manager did nothing to rectify the situation. And in the time my husband was there waiting he saw another guy come in who had been in the day before for an alignment, another simple procedure. He came back that day to say now his radio doesn't work and the alignment was still off. The MANAGER actually told him he had to go to the dealer to get the code to reset the radio. What?! The guy said it worked before they messed with it so they should fix it. And they didn't even fix what he came in for. The manager basically justified their failure and the guy left. Never go to this place. We should've checked the reviews before going so that's our bad. I'm glad so many people have rated them poorly because not only did the guy not know how to put on tires correctly (at a discount TIRE SHOP), but the Manager's handling of problems was a disgrace. So unprofessional! So incompetent! Pay the extra $10 and go somewhere else. read more

A couple things: the service here was professional, certainly compared to Wal-mart's Tire and Lube Center, where one of the guys at the desk seems to take special pleasure in trying to make Cornell students feel dumb because we may not know a lot about cars (hey buddy: it's called "specialization of labor"--some people don't study cars because they're better at other things, like curing diseases etc). Yeesh. Sorry for that tangent. Anyway, the guy at the Mavis front desk was straightforward, his time-estimate was spot-on, and the price for the work was, while a little more expensive, worth it. We got in and out in an hour. I knock this place down one star because they either forgot to or just simply didn't put our spare back underneath the car, and instead left it sitting in the trunk. They towed my car out of their lot when I asked if I could get it out of there within next two hours with my tow service. They agreed it was no problem. 2 hours later, car is GONE. In the tow yard behind their shop. They are scum liars, I couldn't get a tow quick enough over there, once they found out I couldn't afford the quote they gave me, they gave me disgusting vibes and looks. Don't trust these guys. I was traveling from out of town and had a burning smell in my tires. These guys recommend over $800 in repairs, including new brakes, even though I got new brakes a couple weeks ago. I couldn't get the service done because it was late Saturday afternoon, so I went to another shop in Baltimore a couple days later. They showed me that nothing needed repairs and even commented on how the brakes were in great shape. Question everything before you let Mavis over charge! read more

This place was absolutely ridiculous. My tires weren't able to handle the weather in late December, and one of the employees recommended I get snow tires only on the front of the car and set me up for an appointment, which I find out after looking it up is actually dangerous and can cause the car to fishtail. Regardless, I wanted to be able to drive safely, so I called up to ask if I could add 2 more snow tires to the order, and the employee on the phone assured me the tires had been put in as an order and would be there when I came in for my appointment soon after. However, when I went in for that appointment, they informed me that the tire hadn't come in yet, and should be in by 9 the next morning. After I'd driven half an hour from Lansing. Specifically for that. So, the next day, I called again and was told the tires wouldn't be there until 12:30. I went to my appointment which was a bit later, and took an absurd amount of time because they were looking around for the tire key (and making a mess of my car in the process, without even asking me to come back to look for it or describing it at all), and while I was told it wouldn't take long, I was waiting there for literally an hour and a half waiting to have my tires changed. The employees were rarely wearing masks, and were going into my car without masks on, and even allowing patrons to not wear their masks in the waiting room, and even discussing that they "shouldn't have to". The whole experience was so abysmal that I waited several weeks to get my bolts tightened because I couldn't stand the thought of going back to that place. I brought my car in for an oil change and NYS inspection. They do the oil change, then tell me that my car will need new brake pads and rotors on the rear... THEY installed new brake pads and rotors on the rear less than a year and less than 10,000 miles ago! Completely inappropriate and rude. Aside from the fact that Mavis is well known for overcharging through deceptive tactics, they also manage to provide terrible customer service. A close friend of mine went in for a simple oil change. Someone behind the counter (unclear if this person even works at the establishment) had the nerve to comment on her appearance, try to guess her age, and claim she barely looked 14. This was clearly unsolicited. A grown, respected, well-educated woman with a laundry list of accomplishments should not have to be subjected to this kind of behavior. Forget offensive, it's annoying and in poor taste. I will be taking my business elsewhere and you can bet I'll be telling others to do so as well. Instead of commenting about e-mailing the "customer service department," please save your time and schedule a proper customer service briefing with your company. Another trip there for service that I am happy with. Took a friend's car in Saturday for basic maintenanceb and left it for them... Got the call it was ready sooner than expected. Part of service was alignment and it was perfect. I can't say that for other places I've been. And.....that's why I go there. I'm a do it yourself person for the most part but I don't have a tire machine or alignment rack and can't do a state inspect my own car obviously. So...I'm picky as a reasonable customer can be and this is one of the ONLY two shops in town I trust. Had tires replaced today. While car was in shop, they attempted to sell me on rear shocks, claimed existing ones were "no good" and would contribute to tires wearing out faster. Declined on their offer. After leaving, checked rear end myself - shocks are fine. Also, checked records from recent service from dealer (per checks from dealer - shocks are fine). I can't even explain how terrible the service was with this business and the damage they did to the paint on my almost new 2015 Fusion front fender. I went in on a Friday afternoon to make an appointment for the following Monday and waited at the counter 20 mins well the assistant manager talked on the phone ordering tires and the other employee working the front desk fumbled around with keys and talked with staff in the service area . It then took another 25 mins to give me a estimate and make an appointment.Even better, the estimate that was given to me was short by 126.00. When i picked up my car it was parked behind a different business building a lot down. I noticed the car had paint missing on the drives side fender and immediately went back inside to report it. I was accompanied outside by two gentle men one claiming to be the General store manager. Both acting as if this never could have happened at their shop, small talk was made between the two men about the GM being the one that parked the car and after they took a picture of the damage I was informed they'd have to review a surveillance tape and could I stick around. To make a long story short, no I didn't stick around I needed to pickup my child from school. I called the day after to find out what was seen on the surveillance and was told the Gm was not in and had not looked at the tape but he would give me a call around 3:00 pm after he did. I still have not heard back from him and I supper pissed....please don't trust these people with your vehicles. read more

First, the good: the tires were the same price as on tire rack, but no shipping and mounting cost. You can book online when you buy the tires so you know what you're paying without having to call around. The shadiness: they give you "free alignment check" with your tires. I get free alignments at Firestone, and I just had mine done, so I know it was fine. They came back with a printout where the toe was over 2 degrees off in the front, and the guy proceeded to tell me that I'm driving around with my wheels facing outward like duck feet and that it will ruin my tires. I thought, hmm firestone must have not done a very good job on the alignment, but no big deal, I'll take it in and have it redone. I then went to checkout and I noticed that the printout had different numbers in the "initial" column than the "final" column. I thought that was very weird since I didn't actually have an alignment done, so I asked what that was all about. He told me that the initial column was from before they actually straightened the wheel out and locked it in place, so the final column is the proper reading. SO BASICALLY THEY CRANKED MY WHEEL TO THE SIDE, TOOK ALIGNMENT MEASUREMENTS THAT LOOK WAY OFF IN ORDER TO SELL ME ALIGNMENT THAT I DIDN'T NEED. As I could see from the final column, my alignment was actually well within spec. Would I get tires here: absolutely, because a tire is a tire and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to put one on. But these guys are shady so I'd be very skeptical about any extra work they claim you need done. read more

I can't share the same customer experience as other posts. We have a dulley truck with brand new tires when we noticed a screw in one tire, when asked if Mavis could take a look the tech told my Husband he needed a new tire without so much as looking at it. Went over to Walmart, the guy popped out the screw and didn't charge us a cent. The screw was smaller than the length of a dime (see the picture). We really felt it was all about the money at Mavis. I've brought my car here three or four times now, mostly for routine stuff like oil changes and tire changes. I've run into problems being told one thing on the phone then showing up and them telling me something different. This is mostly with appointments, i.e. someone saying "sure, come in now we can take you" then me waiting 5 hours for my car to be seen. That's happened once or twice, but the work they do has been good. They're usually the cheapest place in town so if you have time, it's worth the wait. read more

It may sound silly - but I have owned a car/driven for almost 7 years and I have never had to deal with a tire issue. I had low tire pressure and I had no idea where to start or what to do! I drove to Mavis Discount Tire hoping they could sell me a gauge and tell me how to use the air pump. I pulled up, I said I needed help because I had low tire pressure and they were pretty much like - say no more, we got you! The guy (Dustin) came outside, told me I could stay in my warm car while he worked on it. I asked how much it would be, and he just shook his head and said, "Nothing - you're good!" Perhaps this is how all tire shops are but it was so nice and I can't quite say how much I appreciated his help - Dustin was very efficient and friendly and it really made my day! Just moved back to the area last year, and have used this shop several times at the suggestion of a local friend. The shop is about as professionally run and presented as I've ever seen anywhere (they have a kids toy section, for crying out loud) and the waiting room is very comfortable and well equipped. Although I've faced the same frustration as many other Northeasterners when calling to get routine service and being turned away due to the mass rush to install or remove snow times at key points in the year (can't they hold a few reservations per day for non-snow-tire maintenance?), I've had no ill feelings or complaints about this place after 5 or 6 visits. Their customer service is top notch and their mechanical service execution is always exactly as I hope for with each visit. Decent prices, too. Unless things change for the worse someday, I'll be a fan for life. read more

Very professional, very kind. I was visiting for the weekend from out of town, and my car was side-swiped. I stopped into Mavis on Sunday (thank you for being open on Sunday!) to make sure my car was still safe to drive back home. Ass't Mgr Ryan checked my car out, guaranteed me it was safe and that nothing was rubbing against tires, or making it unsteerable, or anything else. He confirmed it was all cosmetic and there was nothing underneath that I was missing. He didn't even charge me for his time! He said he was just happy that I was okay, and HE thanked ME for being safe and smart by asking a pro to look. Although busy with a full schedule, they were able to plug the hole and have me on my way in less than an hour. They also replaced all of my tire valve caps free of charge. This place is dangerously bad. Went in for an inspection. Took 3 hours. Told me I needed new brakes. Took 5 hours for front pads & rotors. Took so long they gave me a discount. Two days later, 30 miles into a 5 hour road trip, a front wheel started making terrible noise and shaking. Had to take it to a shop near there. Mavis and Cole denied any responsibility and told me they could not help and would not cover any expenses, due to some loophole printed on the receipt. Take your car ANYWHERE else. read more

Took our vehicle there for inspection and oil change. While there, we were told that rear brakes were metal on metal and needed to be changed. Price quoted $299 for rear pads and rotors. Per online and phone promotion, they offer "premium brakes for $99.99 including labor." We ask about the offer and are told it's only for pads. Nowhere on the promo does it state that. Only states "brakes." So breakdown was $85 per rotor for cost and $15 per rotor for labor, plus cost of pads. We ask them to install front pads as well since we are paying the $99.99 now to get pads. The manager says it's additional $99.99 because it's only rear or only front. Again, nowhere does it say this on the promo. We state that it doesn't specify exclusions or details anywhere, so they should fulfill the promo. The assistant manager agrees and states that it only says "brakes" and does not specify front or rear as they are on the phone with corporate. We're then told we will get the front and rear pads for the $99.99 promo. We refused the rotors when they refused to honor the promo originally. When they come back and tell us we're all set, we ask for the total and they say "nothing." So we ask what was done and they say "inspection and oil change." We ask why the pads weren't done when they told us they would do them. The manager claimed that the "higher ups" wouldn't allow the pads without paying for rotors too. That was never brought up to us. It just wasn't done. 2 hours there for an inspection and oil change. Will not return, and will deter friends, family, and public from being treated like this. read more

On 10/29/16 I went in for a simple tire replacement and when I went to leave I notice a fuel leak. My fuel line was crushed and leaking due to poor placement of the jack. Thomas at mavis told me the leak was there before I came so we checked my parking space for fuel and there was none, meaning it happened during the service. Thomas then started giving me a bunch of reasons why it wasn't their fault. I swiped my card before noticing the damage. No offer of repair or reimbursement was discussed, he then had the nerve to tell me I didn't know what I was talking about because he had been doing this for 13 years. I left with the car since they were of no help and now it is sitting because the leak is too bad. absolutely unacceptable! read more

If i could do no stars i would. Do not go to this establishment! I dropped my car off for a brake service with no other issues. I Come back and go to drive the car and my car will no longer accelerate and my check engine light is suddenly on!!! I had to have the car towed back to the shop it was now un driveable!!The techs tried to convince me the car just magically does that and i need an additional 500$ tune up and would not reimburse me for the tow back to their shop even after they discovered they had cause the issies by unplugging my main air intake!!!! Had prompt and excellent service at Mavis Tire after we set out this morning only to find a flat tire with a nail in it. Mavis Tire fixed the tire and put it back on the car (we called AAA first and they put the spare on). Service was courteous and very quick. It is as dishonest a repair shop as one could get. I pulled my son's Jag into their parking lot and simply asked for a quote on 4 equivalent tires as the existing tires were in need of replacement and since it is AWD the tires need to be similar in wear. The next morning prior to a quote they had pulled all 4 wheels, removed tires from the rims and then called me with a verbal quote totaling $2700+ for tires, struts and tie rods.. I promptly instructed them to slap the tires back on the rims and picked the car up ASAP. We ordered tires from The Tire Rack, had them drop shipped to Kost Tire just down the road and they inspected the suspension and front end. The entire job totaled $400. No slimy up selling tactics and the work was done properly. $2300 in additional bull crap? Sure if that's your cup of tea then try Mavis.. If $2300 means anything then just use the Tire Rack and send the tires to an authorized installer like Kost. Bottom line? I would not step in a Mavis store ever again. Worst possible customer service. Called on a Thursday and was told they had tires I needed. Called following day (Friday) to arrange to have them installed, put on hold for 10 min while they looked for tires, finally someone picked up, put on hold another 10 min while they again looked for tires. When tires not found was told they would order tires and I could have them the following Tuesday morning. Called Tuesday afternoon to confirm tires were in, put on hold agin for 10 min, no record of the tires or order, told they would call me back. No call back. Called again Wed am, no record of tires ordered, no tires in stock, I would need to reorder tires. At this point I gave up. Would never use them again. read more

This place was a mess from the start. I called the day before about getting 4 new tires, got quoted $69 per tire. When I dropped the car off the next day, they had no idea who I was and now the price is $74 per tire. I left thinking that in a few hours I could pick the car up...waited 4 hours and finally called. Well, now it needs back brakes too. Guy quotes me $100 more than I got from my regular mechanic. Fine. He also tells me it will be done well before 5pm. I get there a few minutes before 5, see my car still on the lift. I wait another 20 minutes while not a single person gets anywhere NEAR my car to finish it. I finally had to call my husband to come get me and come back the next day. I will NEVER use this shop again. read more

I have never been treated so poorly by ANY business I have had the misfortune to deal with: I made an appointment to have my snow tires installed over the phone for 4:30 on Thursday. When I got here at 4:25, the Manager told me " I don't know why someone made an appointment at this time, we don't have enough time to do the job before we close" I made another appointment for 10:00 the following day and when I got here, I asked when I should return to pick up my car. The SAME manager said " an hour, maybe an hour an a half". I did some errands, and returned in about two hours. The SAME manager asked what I wanted when I got to the counter. I told him my name, and that I was here to pick up my car. He went into the garage for 10-15 minutes. He returned, holding the door ajar and I could hear him talking about "garlic sauce, I want garlic sauce" When he finally returned to the counter he said they would be getting to my car in half an hour, maybe an hour. I spent almost five hours waiting for these people to work on my car. I will never, ever, under any conditions, return to Mavis. They treat customers like dirt. read more

Mavis is great for tires and oil changes. For routine repairs I would shop around - their labor rate, just like all of the "big box" garages is pretty steep. There are a lot of independent mechanics in the area that have more experience and cost less. However, if you have money to burn, have at it! read more

I ordered tires that were on-sale online. They were a good deal and in my price point. The next day I called to confirm the appointment and was told the tires I ordered were discontinued, but since they were still listed as in stock on the website they would give me the new model for the price I was originally quoted. I agreed to this. After picking up my car I realized I was charged $130 more than originally quoted. (Not the deal that we had discussed.) I called the shop a few times and kept getting bounced to different people, each person saying there was nothing they could do, nor owning up to the fact that they made a mistake. Finally they sent me to customer service. I gave the same story to the woman on the phone. I sent her the e-mailed quote and she listened to a recording of the conversation. She agreed that that was the price that was agreed on, but again there was nothing she could do about it? She ended up sending a $25 Mavis gift card. If I had known I was going to be charged that much for the tires I would have gotten a better tire and a better shop. Not worth it. read more
