They tend to be super busy and getting an appointment can be a wait, and their waiting room tends to be full. But they're very personable and you get the sense that they really care for their customers. If I was still in Ithaca, I'd still be going here.

Good tires and brakes are everything for Ithaca's hills. AAA put the spare tire on. Wilcox patched the tire, put the spare back under the vehicle and put on the Bridgestone Blizzaks Snow tires. They were able to get the tires the next day and get them on the rims and balanced. Total cost was just under $1k, but these are the best tires on the market. Wilcox even gave a 1/2 off tire repair. They put the seasonal tires in the back of the car nicely wrapped in a plastic tire bag and said to come back in Spring to put them back on. Wish they had onsite tire storage, but found a small 5x5 storage locker at Bolt Storage for $20 a month in Newsfield, NY (20 minutes south of Ithaca and 1/2 the price).

I received my wheel in the exact condition in which I left it--didn't even buff out the curb rash, nothing--and the bill was $545. They did mount a $200 tire as I told them too, because the wheel does hold air just fine. I paid it and left-- I wouldn't go back. They wouldn't even mount it for me because "the compressor was shut down."

Jim was the best. But now horrible service. Lets see I took it in for an inspection and a check engine light on, and I left with what I thought might be good service repair....nope! I was charged for a battery I didn't ask for ( $300), and they weren't even respectful enough to put the terminal cover back on it the shroud that covers my motor was just thrown in the back of my vehicle along with the skid cover that goes on the under carriage. then I looked under the hood and also noticed my nice air filter cover was nowhere to be found. And the check engine light was never even fixed, so now I have to pay someone else to fix that. And last of the bigger idiotic crap was they took a half a full tank of gas. So all of this BS cost me 2000 dollars to boot. I would NOT recommend this place to a room full of criminals!! They suck. Worst service ever in my entire life. They should be ashamed of themselves. I later called again and explained that I took it elsewhere where they told me that the valve stem had been damaged. He asked "why did you take it somewhere else?" then "have a good day sir" and hung up on me. This issue required me to walk one mile to my home late at night in February, another mile up hill the following day, cost for tow, and the cost for an extra repair. Bruce's Pit Stop told me that topping fluids is not included in an oil change, which is unheard of. Terrible shop.

My grad school kid has used Hunt's twice now. Once when he brought his out of state car to school…read moreand again when he needed a new transmission (big thanks for Ithaca Auto for recommending Hunts for this work). They did great on the car inspection (NY bans dark window tinting unless it came factory installed). Commented on how the vehicle had no rust (Ithaca ices their roads) and suggested we get undercoating done (Daggett's Garage in Dresden was the closest place that will undercoat your car with FluidFilm each October). We did the oil change and minor service. A few months later the transmission gave out (we knew it would happen sooner or later). AAA towed the car to the garage. Hunt's ordered a rebuilt transmission with a 3 year warranty. It was close to $7k but they did a great job. They did the major service and let us know the timing belt was starting to rattle and should be the next major repair and to do it before it breaks. Cars aren't cheap, but I'm grateful Hunts Auto is there to keep the car in good shape. Everyone needs a good mechanic (also Wilcox Tire is a couple buildings down and is the place to go for snow tires).

These guys have been in business for decades. they seem to know how to run a business and put tires together. I'm not sure if they do any other work besides tires. I was recommended Taber Street Auto Repair by a neighbor and I am very glad I took his advice. I…read morewas told by a major auto dealer repair shop that my rack and pinion needed to replaced after they had just replaced the steering column. I was already in $600 for the steering column, which did not fix the clunking noise coming from the front end. They told me for another $1300 I needed to replace the rack and pinion. They were supposedly discounting the $600 I already put into the steering column. Basically a $2,000 job. Well, wrong diagnosis! The team at Taber said I just needed to replace the sway bar bushings. I told them to go ahead and replace the stabilizer arms while they were in there. My RAV 4 has 152K+ miles, so might as well for an extra $100 bucks. The cost of the repair was $330--compare that to $2,000 for a misdiagnosed repair. I am also getting the $600 refunded after contacting the repair shop on the original work. Thank you Taber Team and Steve. Fair, honest and reasonable. They have a new customer and I recommend this shop for your repairs or especially second opinions--it could save you big money!

Staff is pleasant and helpful and, once you're a regular customer and they know you, go above and beyond. Even better they'll give you good advice that will ultimately save you money.
