I work a few miles away, right off of 22, and I had a tire that was not keeping air. I came in at 7:45 am, they open at 8 am, but they took me early and they discovered a nail in my back right tire. My father is a senior citizen who visited Mavis in North Plainfield (as he does for most of his car maintenance needs for the last 20 years). He asked for a tune up for which he typically receives an estimate but he left without one mistakenly and when we returned to pick up the vehicle the cost was 5Xs the amount he's ever been charged!!! Needless to say, we were shocked & appalled. The manager was ringing us up as the associate, Tyshawn was standing next to him nervous, fidgeting and saying my father left before he could quote him - which is BS. He had his phone number and should have made an attempt to provide him with the expected service amount as, from what the manager said, this is the policy. More so because he is elderly and may not understand well. In my opinion, they were trying to scam my father and egregiously overcharge him. The manager, Haris, recognizing that they were wrong, made an effort to correct by discounting the service (to less than half the original price and threw in 3 free oil changes!) While I appreciate that he was willing to help and understood that they were wrong, it really feels like they can charge WHATEVER they want and it's truly disheartening. We will never come back. It's a shame as it seems they've gone through many management/ ownership changes in the several years my father has been a customer. read more

I've been a customer at this shop for twenty years, but that was when it was STS (Somerset Tire Service). Now, some of the workers here are incompetent and unprofessional, including the managers. I came here to have the battery in my car replaced, something they had previously done for me, but, this time it became a three hour ordeal. They got the new battery, and put it in my car. But, they were unable to tighten one of the cable terminals. Said the screw was stripped. After two technicians futzed with it, then gave up, they expected me to just pay the bill and drive off with a loose battery cable. Their indifference to my safety was appalling. I told them to replace the connector on the battery wire. The shop manager claimed that they didn't have the tools or the expertise to do that, and got his back up when I insisted. It's two minutes with a pair of wire-strippers and a screwdriver. Instead, the customer service manager said I should drive to the Infiniti dealership in my now-unsafe car, and have them do it. I protested until a different, obviously more experienced, technician took a look at my car, got the $3 part, and installed it in two minutes. They wasted hours of my time, and stressed me out unnecessarily. And, I still had to go to the Infiniti dealer and pay them $100 to reset my car's computer, because Mavis also failed to do that after reconnecting the battery. I will never return here for any sort of car repair, and will go elsewhere to buy tires. read more

I was a Mavis customer at the N Plainfield shop for 20 years because I trusted their integrity. They replaced my good tire with a new tire claiming my tire had a screw in side wall and needed to be repaired. They replaced wrong tire. Chris The managers response was we don't check we go by what you say. Ummm Chris MAVIS told ME there was a screw in sidewall. Clearly their mission is to sell you tires regardless. Beware!!! I would not recommend this Mavis!!!! I came here recently for a tire check since it had appeared that I might have had a flat tire. The service here is beyond slow and the people take advantage of you if you're a woman. The mechanics told me that they would recommend me put in a plug in the tire or to buy all 4 tires... I knew I needed new front tires but they kept insisting me to purchase all new tires which I had no money for and was not called for on their end for being so pushing. On top of that I asked them to make sure the other tires seemed ok and instead I was billed for a car estimate of $50+. My total bill was around $80. I will never be coming back here or to another Mavis in the future. Ok been here to this location serval times the mangers change so often you don't know how they will try to rip you off ! Today I went in to replace a tire under warranty I paid 114 for the tire two months ago plus 5 dollars a tire to balance them and 7 dollars for the road hazard warranty. They didn't want to honor the original paid price BIG WALT who seems to be the new manger of the month want to charge me full retail price of the tire 199.00 then later on he changed it to the 179.99 price when Corp started to get involved . At this point the discount amount prorated was more then the original price ! since this wasn't my 1 st time at this location and knowing their deceiving practices to RiP customer off , I was prepared to want him to get the regional manger in the phone since when this incident want on Shane the regional manger took care of it last time when they try to rip me off ! But what luck Shane is no longer the regional manger of this area and now I had to deal with a bigger liar and manipulator name Matt O'Brien who was also trying to back up his local manger and lie to over the phone he was making up lies after lies about the issues of my tires saying it was not cover when asking him were on the paperwork it states that , he said read and find it yourself and he refused to honor my original price as stated in the contract! I ask to speak to his supervisor he said he reports to no one ! Basically told me off and said I was beat! He disconnected the phone call! Now after several attempts calling their Corp offices and being either sent back to Matt who made jokes and fun of this incident and made personal attacks towards my credibility, I finally talk to a director name alexy ext 5000 at the Corp office after going back and further with her she claims that she would honor the original price of 114 and 5 for installation and 7 for the new warranty after battling back and forth over this issue . She sweared up and down that I would pay 75 dollars thAt was based on the 115 which after I left and got home to review all the paperwork since after 3 to closing in the phone with this customer Service reps who hung up on me over and over ! In the end I just want to leave so I paid what I was asked and left ! Please stay away from this company ! They got me for 25.05 more than should paid after I got home and did the math I will fellow up with alexy tomorrow since I was taken for that amount which she claimed was correct! learned my lesson with this company , think of take to small claims court ! I trust Mavis No Plainfield across from Cadillac. I asked for brakes and they were honest enough to say the squeak was from condensation and you do not need brakes. I bought tires here last time and they rotate for free. Daniel and Sean were very professional and polite. Nice to see hard working young men. Chris was honest about my brakes. Please family I need you to be aware of the bad service I received from Mavis Tires on Rt22 North Plainfield. I went to get my tires rotated and an alignment. They suggested new tire which I knew I needed. But the issue was that they failed to do my alignment. I went back twice because the pull and shaking in the steering was still happening and they said oh it was probably the tire being new and to give it time. Not so. The pulling and shaking got worst so I took it to Nissan and they said the alignment could not have been done do to the fact that control arm was bad and should have been replaced. The alignment could not have been done because of that. Their lack of knowledge and the amount of money they charged is not right. The management Chris is HORRIBLE!! I went to the 588 Rt 22E& Mountain Ave N.Plainfield location back in January to replace a tire. After leaving the tire I had replaced was making a funny sound so I assumed it was because the tread didn't match any of my other tires so I went back on 3/22 to have the other 3 tires mounted. But my car was still making the same noise so I bought it back on 3/27. After they gave me a possible diagnosis and gave me back my car I noticed several lights on my dashboard on....light that were not on when I handed them my car keys. They tinkered with them and all but 1 lught went off. So again let them know. The manager Chris was rude and dismissive and told me that the light is supposed to be on. Took my car here for tires pads and rotors. Next day one of the brakes starts grinding. Brought it back and was told nothing was wrong. Grinding continued and I even took a video and was told "videos don't mean anything." Took the tire off myself to see what was going on and can clearly see the rotor wearing unevenly from pad rubbing. Took a picture and brought it back AGAIN and was told that he couldn't go based on a picture because how does he know it's my car...also this place didn't have a mechanic at the shop for any of the times i brought my car back in. BEWARE - THEY WILL TRY TO RIP YOU OFF! So took my car in because the light came on, indicating that my air filter needed to be changed. Pretty straightforward task. Even though I'd prefer NOT to go to a chain shop, I'm new to the area and got my oil changed here, and thought it would be no big deal. Dropped it off, and at 8:30 AM, the manager, Jason, told me it would take a couple hours to replace the filter. Great! At 11:15, Jason calls back and tells me they've stripped the treads on the filter while taking it off, and therefore THEY NEED TO REPLACE MY INTAKE MANIFOLD?!!!! Seriously - you've got to be kidding me! To confirm, there WAS NOTHING WRONG with the very expensive to replace intake manifold. AND THEY WANTED ME TO PAY FOR IT!!!! Of course, I told him absolutley not, this is ridiculous, if YOU broke/manhandled/stripped the threads doing this VERY SIMPLE air filter replacement, then YOU need to correct the problem and YOU need to eat the cost associated with correcting the problem. Immediately, Jason started backpedaling, saying that "maybe" they could fix the problem without replacing THE INTAKE MANIFOLD, and that he's "see what he could do". And wouldn't you know it? After calling their bluff, somehow they were "magically" able to SIMPLY REPLACE THE AIR FILTER after all. But did not return the car to me until after 5:00 PM and only because I called repeatedly. And obviously, I will never return. AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE LIED TO AND/OR SCAMMED. read more

I called ahead and asked for an estimate on an oil change and an aliment. A gentleman by the name of Sam was very polite and helped me. You see I never had to take care of my cars. My situation changed and this was my 1st time. I was told there was an hour wait and planned accordingly. When I got there Sam checked me in and asked me some questions. There were several mechanics on duty. I sat in the waiting room and could see my car being worked on. The waiting room had a flat screen t.v. and magazines and newspapers to read. I was impressed how polite Sam was with each and every customer. He explained throughly what was wrong with the vehicle and what should be done to fix it. I presented two different coupons that I found online. This helped to keep my cost down. I thought my blinker light bulb had to be replaced but Sam informed me that is was only a loose wire which they connected at no charge. I also liked the fact when my car was ready it was driven right up to the front door. Besides mechanical work, STS sells all different types and makes of tires. Car was vibrating really bad on the road. I had just had work done on it by another shop and was worried that shop might not have put everything back together correctly. The guys at Mavis took my car out for a test drive and put it up on the lift. The culprit, it turned out, was just stubborn ice resulting from the recent snow and cold unbalancing my tires. They let the car thaw out in their heated garage for an hour. I was expecting to pay some sort of "lift charge" but they noted they hadn't really done anything to the car and I owed nothing. Previously purchased tires there with a warranty. Went to have a nail removed and tires rotated. Sales guy was arrogant and didn't honor warranty instead try to sell me new tires. Tell me he can offer me the new tires at the same price as the old tires without even checking the current price of the old tires ( which could have been lower). Then just pulls up some random tire from the same maker that has a higher price and tells me that my tires with 28k miles are too warm because of NJ roads but the tires have a 70k rating. Then they rotate the tires on one side of the car but not the other since I wasn't going to purchase there. Terrible customer service. On a unrelated note the sales guy takes my name and address from me but when a Hispanic man with reasonable English come in he tells him he needs his license to get his name and address because it is easier. Ordered tires and scheduled an appointment two days out. Arrived 5 minutes before my appointment and they check me, while telling me they can start on my car in 25 minutes. After an hour they tell me they don't have my tires. The response is, it is the dispatchers fault. I asked why he did not confirm my tires were in when they checked me in and the response I got was most times they are in.... I call customer service and speak to the "manage", she is sympathetic and says she will get me my tires today. She promised to call back. She calls back and says the tires will be in in 1-2 hours, I asked if she could refine that and could they do anything for my inconvenience. She says yes and I get 'disconnected'. A half hour later I call back, waiting 20 minutes on hold. The new person offers me 8% off and I say that is not good enough for the hours of inconvenience. She says we have a right to make a profit! I agree in general, but when you screw up you lose that right. She refused to let me wait to talk to the manager. Terrible customer service. Never go back. I have purchased 5 sets of tires. No more. I bought two Goodyear tires for my Sienna van in December '15. One of the tire's outer walls blew out two weeks ago. A local garage told me the tire was not repairable. He then told me the tire was made in early 2012 and was 3 and 1/2 years old before it was installed on my van. The Mavis dealer told me he would not replace the other old tire and would not give me credit for the blown tire. They have demonstrated to me that they will not take ownership for an expired tire that was sold and failed. read more
