Went in for two tires -- left with a $3,000 repair quote. A few weeks ago my car had a major mechanical issue that required several days of work from my long-time, trusted mechanic and about $3,000 in repairs. During that process he had an extensive look at the vehicle. At the end of the work he told me that when my upcoming state inspection came due, I would likely need two new front tires but everything else looked good. Today, March 13, 2026, I went to Midas Discount Tire & Auto Service on Kimberton Road in Phoenixville, PA simply to purchase those two front tires for my Buick Enclave. For convenience, I agreed to have them perform the Pennsylvania inspection at the same time. After the inspection, I was told the car needed approximately $3,000 in additional repairs in order to pass. When I mentioned that my mechanic had just worked extensively on the vehicle and had not identified those issues, the employee told me that my mechanic was "committing fraud." I told them I would just take the failed inspection and have my regular mechanic review their findings. At that point I was told that they would report the required repairs to the state inspection system so that another shop would not be able to pass the car without completing those repairs. I was also told they would not sell or install the tires unless I agreed to the additional work. Regarding the first claim, it is materially false. State inspection records from a first, failed attempt do not mandate repairs if a subsequent, independent inspection shows the vehicle passes. I came in expecting a routine tire purchase and inspection. Instead, I left feeling pressured into approving thousands of dollars in repairs I had not anticipated. I'll be taking the vehicle back to my regular mechanic for a second opinion before authorizing anything further. Based on my experience, I would proceed cautiously and consider getting a second opinion before approving significant repairs. read more

Misdiagnosed an issue with my son's car. $771 to replace a thermostat that did nothing to address his problem. Called to get it sorted and discuss a refund, was told that my 19 year old walked in there and asked for a new thermostat and that they didn't actually diagnose anything. My 19 year old, who knows nothing about cars, walked in there with a self-diagnosed thermostat issue? Right. And then manager Mike hung up on me when I called him out on this BS. A BIG SHOUTOUT to Mike and his team at the Phoenixville Mavis Discount Tire Store. I have used them over the years and they always are most helpful. Today they really shined. It's Saturday afternoon around 1:30 PM and I am up in Lehigh Valley, PA visiting my son. I went to leave and had the low tire pressure warning on. I filled it and saw I had run over a nail. I had to get home to Phoenixville, PA as I was leaving in the morning to the airport. I went to several tire stores in the Lehigh Valley and no one would fix my tire. They all said it was too close to closing time (one closed in 3 hours and another in 4 hours.) I called MY Mavis in Phoenixville, and explained were I was and what I needed. The nice girl on the phone told me to just bring it in and they will fix it for me. BTW...they close at 5 PM too...and I was still an hour away. No problem. Luckily my tire made it to Phoenixville and they fixed it in no time at all. I was home well before "closing time." My wife came back from a trip to find her battery was dead at the train station parking lot. She was planning a second trip in two days to go to the shore. I managed to jump her car but was very nervous regarding the second trip. I I set up an appointment the next morning after I jumped her car and wow!!! I arrived at Mavis in Norristown at 08:00 and the doors opened on time. I was met by two associates who assured me they would make sure my wife's car would be in tip top shape. They checked the charging system and the battery, which turned out to be in need of replacing. In less than 1 hour, they replaced the battery with a new one and I was on my way. I came to this place on Sunday to get my brakes checked because I heard a scraping sound. The "mechanic" told me it was metal on metal and when did I want to get it fixed. He said it's the brakes and the rotors and gave me a quote of $420. I left because I didn't have that amount. I went to an HONEST mechanic the brake pads had a centimeter left and the rotors were not affected at all. The sound I heard was the sensor. This guys are crooks stay away. read more

We used Mavis and the prior company for years. My husband bought tires in Nov 2021 and waited for install. It took many more hours than what the quote was. With the pandemic, we'd understand getting backed up, just tell us so he's not waiting 4-5 hours. Salesman sold me on Pirelli tires in July of 2020. Said they were best in class. He also sold me on the warranty Mavis offers. I bought both and felt like I'd be good for a few years. It is now May of 2022 and I have driven 20,000 miles on the tires. The front tires are at 2/32 and the back tires are at 3/32, so they need to be replaced. Tires should last longer than 20,000 miles!!! I thought to myself, "good thing I bought that warranty". When I went into Mavis to follow up on the warranty, they asked me what kind of tires I have on my car now. I said Pirelli's. The girl said, "Eww, I have been hearing they are a terrible tire". She then had someone measure the tire thread. He told her the measurements, she looked at her computer and said, "at this point the warranty will provide a 12% discount on a new set of tires". It was almost like she was reenacting a training video. I paid more for the "warranty" than the "discount" they are going to provide. Complete and total rip off. I called last Friday (4 days ago) to make an appt for today for an inspection which I didn't realize was out in June and I went to drop it off this morning and the girl at the desk said they tried to call me to reschedule but did not have my work extension. They also have my cell # because I always give them that and my email because they sent a confirmation. She asks if I can reschedule for next week and I tell her no because it is out of inspection and she says the guy had 4 cars lined up and she would have to check with him. She comes back and says they don't have anyone with an inspection license. I will never go there again. read more

SCAMMERS - I purchased 4 tires and the passenger front continued to go flat. I brought the car in 3 times and each time was told nothing was wrong with the tire. This place is awful. Shopped around and called yesterday to set up an appointment. I made it for a specific time because it was on my way to work. Upon getting there they told me they do not take appointments, they only take 'reservations'. TWO places on their website there is something that says 'make an appointment' to click on. So now I will be late to work thanks to them. On top of this, they LIE about their quotes. They quoted for a new tire and everything included at $89. Came in today and now they say it will be $120. Was finally able to get him down to $102. Funny how negotiable it can really be. Wonder how much further we could have gotten him. This place is slow, dishonest, and rude. Not a good place to do business. They were a day late because their truck broke down. When I arrived the salesman told me that my 9:00 am appointment meant 10:30, while complaining that only one tech showed up. Then the hustle started: tried to up sell TPMS sensors, wheel alignment. I declined, he printed out the sales agreement. After reading that I was supposed to return in 25 miles for lug nut re-torquing, I declined and walked out with the slip. He followed my outside and demanded I return the document he just handed me. I refused and he threatened to "call the cops. If I could give negative stars I would give a negative -5. This shop and corporation is shady and does not do quality work. DON'T TAKE YOUR CAR THERE!!!! you will completely regret it. To explain I took my 2015 Camaro SS in for 2 rear tires. First when I got the the car back the rims where filthy greasy hand prints and bead sealer glue from them mounting the new tires. Took the car home to clean off the rims is when I discovered the the rim damage inside the rims. I immediately called the store and spoke to Lee the manager and this is what he said on the phone prior to me returning back to the store is that's what happens when you use screw driver to get the wheel weights off.  The rims where dug into several times by a screw driver. The one side is covered up by the new wheel weights but you can still see the damage under the weight. The passenger side is even worse. There is a long scratch as if the screw driver slipped off and about 4 to 5 deep scratches. This is down right ridiculous. This is the first time the tires have ever been replaced. This damage makes me absolutely sick. The price per new rim from the dealer is $898.37 after tax. In addition to the rims being damaged. The tire sensor on the rear tire is throwing a code on my dashboard and the passenger rear tire is not showing any PSI. This is a completely unacceptable work perform by the technicians at Mavis. There was never any issues with the tire sensors prior to taking it to your company. Now I have two rims that are damaged and a tire sensor issue all caused by Mavis Tire. Calling the corporate phone number get you known where. The regional training Manager Kevin Kirkpatrick refuses to have the rims replaced. Asked for his bosses phone number and he refused and said he doesn't talk to customers. Kevin has been no help and offered to have my rims refurbished and I would have the car for two days. The rims where flawless going to shop. Refurbished rims are not what I have or want on the car. To try and get anyone higher in the company is impossible. Place is like smoke and mirrors. I have filled a claim with Better Business Burial and there will be more to come read more

DON'T GO FOR ANYTHING MAJOR. Took my car in because it was overheating, guy told me the radiator was cracked. Quoted me $1k to replace it and every part within 6 inches of it, about $600 to just do the radiator. My dad's a mechanic so I'm pretty comfortable with cars, I'm glad I smelled bullsh*t and didn't get any work done there because the radiator is fine, I had a clog in one of my hoses. Easy fix, did it myself in one afternoon. If there was an issue with the radiator, it's a $150 part, they quoted $310 for the radiator alone. I trusted these guys because for the first couple years they treated me right but recently they've gone to the dogs. I read another comment on Google about Mavis insisting their car needed pads and rotors to pass inspection, guess what they put on my car during my last inspection? Crooks. STAY AWAY read more

Dishonest. I went in for a simple oil change and they tried to scam me saying that I needed a new battery. Little did they know I'd just bought a new battery last month. They even printed up a fake battery test slip that said it was only putting out a little over 200 A. I took it back to the original shop where I bought the battery to have it tested. here is a recount of our experience at STS TIRES in Phoenxville (written by my wife) PLEASE save yourself the aggravation and do not go to STS, especially if you're FEMALE. I needed my car inspected and they call me telling me there is slight crack in one of my fog lights. It'll be a $500 repair to fix. I say, "No, I don't need them just remove the fog lights." The mechanic lies and tells me he can't do that since it is part of the vehicle, it has to be fixed. Suddenly, when ...my husband calls back it's not a problem. OUTRAGEOUS!!!!! I pick up my car and the minor crack is many huge cracks and there's big chunks of plastic missing. NO WAY that I didn't see that kind of damage right in the front of my car.
