I took my truck in to this shop with a check engine light on and they diagnosed it found the problem and called and explained everything to me. My catalytic converter needed to be replaced. I called before coming to get an oil change estimate and they ended up being understanding when I walked in. They hopped to it letting me hangout for no more than an hour even though they were busy. Dave was extremely accommodating. I took my car to another shop where they told me I needed a front inner tie rod and a front lower ball joint. Dave ordered the parts before my appointment and then called and said the ball joint just needed to be tightened and the tie rod was in good condition and didn't need to be replaced. Avoid at all costs. They changed the lower front control arm on my car and broke the ball joint. Without telling me, they fixed it temporarily. A month later problems and arose and they said it is the tensioner belt. I replaced it and problem persisted. Then, thankfully a mechanic from yourmechanic.com found what the real issue was and fixed it. In short, just compare their prices and quotes against yourmechanic.com, it is 40-50% cheaper for all services. Very highly priced (more expensive than the dealer) and do a poor job! read more

I recently visited Hometown Auto on a whim, as I was in desperate need of help with my wheel from slamming into a curb from a recent snowstorm. I visited the day after the storm and while expecting to be turned away (like two other nearby places) Dave took the time to come outside to at least look at my car. He quickly confirmed it was unsafe to drive and promised to take a look at it within the next day. I left my car over the weekend and by Monday morning I received a call with the diagnosis. I needed a new control arm which he was able to order immediately. I had my car back by Tuesday morning. I was extremely impressed with the fast turnaround especially given it was the week of Thanksgiving. I thought they were fair on the price and they did a great job. I am from New Hampshire, and was driving home (over 8 hours) from my sister's wedding when my car's engine seized up. I had it towed to Hometown Auto after looking at reviews for local shops. They told me the engine needed to be replaced and showed and explained exactly why and what happened. I was 6 hours from home and 2 hours from my Mom's house, in a town I wasn't familiar with and suddenly had this major game changing issue to figure out. Hometown Auto very graciously helped me weigh my options and let me hang out there for the two hours it took for my dad to come and pick me up. They were able to find an engine for my car, and agreed to hold my vehicle for about three weeks so they could do the repairs and give me time to find a way back down to PA from NH. The car is back in my possession and it runs beautifully. They replaced the engine and did a few other things to make sure it was road/inspection ready. Went above and beyond. I've had a dirt cheap oil change before (which I felt was good quality wise) BUT I came back for another oil change and the guy tried to confuse me by asking what oil is usually used for my car, told me some high grade oil is usually used and I paid 3 times the price. This garage is out to get your $. They know if you are not a grease monkey and pile on unnecessary repairs. If you decide to go here, be sure to always get a quote and then call other garages/mechanics before you let them touch your car. I have been using them for nearly 2 yrs (for convenience sake, and that's ending today), and I have had to haggle with them over pricing and the need of the repairs at all. They wanted to replace a rim for over $200, even though bead sealing it ultimately fixed the problem for less than $20. They replaced a perfectly good muffler today under the guise of "not passing inspection". The new one has made NO DIFFERENCE whatsoever. What a waste of my time and $. read more
