Someone came out and tried to sell me a brake fluid flush based only on miles, Moments ago. Told them no and I needed my car back as I have a job to get to. Every time I go to them I encounter an issue - I continue to try to give them the benefit of the doubt considering I had been an avid user of Mavis in other cities. But I've finally had it with this particular site. They overcharge and just aren't honest. Always seem to be out for more and never do a good job - in fact, I'm not even sure if they work on your car at all at times. Especially if its something as simple as a tire balance and alignment. Most places this is a package deal and here they charge separate and if you ask for one service and another usually accompanies it - they wont probe any further. Just useless. Ive only gone to them for quick services but even those end up costing me. I'll continue to wait for an opening at my main mechanic for now on - STOFAS. The complete opposite of these guys! I guess their long list of clientele is proof and people don't leave them. They are just so backed up but well worth it and never ever do they just take your money just because. Found the tires I wanted at the Mavis website - it said they were in stock. I then made an appointment to have them installed the next day. Someone from Mavis called my house at 9 AM that day and said the tires were there and verified my appointment. I showed up at 1 PM only to be told that they only had 3 tires! This is a sign of a business that is out of control if they can't even keep their inventory straight. The guy behind the counter said they could probably get another one by the next day but I pointed out that I was there now. I won't be doing business with them again and will warn others. I went home and ordered the same tires from Tire Rack. With mounting, balancing and an alignment at a local shop, I saved more than $50 over Mavis's price. read more

Long time customer of the store that became disenchanted after a brake job gone bad. Old manager Fred took good care of me for years. Prior to the brake job I asked if Mavis did BMW brakes I was told absolutely! After the brake job they told me I needed to have the brake light reset by BMW. Called and spoke to manager next day ... why are you telling me you can do BMW brakes if BMW needs to reset the light???? He told me to bring it in an he would reset it. After an 90 mins in the parking lot trying to reset the light he said I'll have to bring it back. I brought it back two more times they inspect the brakes both times and claim nothing is wrong. I'm told they'll check with Mavis Corporate on the brake light reset procedure and get back to me. Never hear from them. Managers change twice. Numerous phone calls and lots of promises. Finally they told me it might be the fluid level have someone top off the brake fluid if that's it they'll reimburse me for the charge. Of course I'm asking the obvious why am I bringing my car to someone else to top off brake fluid if you did my brake job???? It wasn't the brake fluid level called back again was told to have BMW check it out and they would reimburse me. BMW says they didn't complete the brake job because they failed to replace the brake pad sensors and charges me almost $150. I drop the receipt into Mavis, manager tells me he's busy but he'll square up with me. Nothing happens. After 4 visits, 10 phone calls and no follow up EVER from Mavis situation ends up in small claims court and rather than being apologetic Mavis sends this guy that is combative. Furthermore he's receiving instructions from the President of the company telling him not to only cover the BMW charges. With rotten customer service apparently all the way to the top before using these guys ask yourself the question is saving a few bucks worth the hassle! My conclusion was it isn't. read more

DO NOT bring your car here! These guys lie about the cost of the repair, then do additional repairs without permission and then expect you to pay a price they jack way up! They are nice on the phone but NASTY in person, yelling, cursing, trying to guilt you into paying for things you didn't agree to and threatening to rip the parts of your car. The employee I'm referring to is Dan, he runs the garage. Here's the story - bought a used car for $700 and a week into driving it the tire flew off and I crashed. Got towed to Mavis cause the Yelp reviews were good and they told me they could fix it quick. I called then every day they had the car 2 times a day because they kept telling me it would be done by the end of the day, and then I'd call back to make sure and they'd say tomorrow. This went on for a week. They told me the parts and labor would be $400 which included a new tire. I was amazed, sounded like a good deal. Again, called every single day and they never told me the price went up, I even asked and they said no, don't worry about it. The guy I was talking to was Louie, he seemed like a great dude but he was either lying through his teeth or his boss was lying, cause he wasn't there when I picked the thing up. Dan calls me after a week of telling me it's ready and it not being ready, says it's done and on the road. I get there and the car is sitting on my spare tire. I ask what's happening and they proceed to get super defensive and tell at me about how they couldn't find a rim for my shitty car. I ask why no one ever told me, since I've spoken to them about 12 times. He gets a major attitude and tells me I needed all this extra stuff that again NO ONE mentioned. He asks me for $700 bucks, and is not gonna give me a tire or rim (which were initially promised as part of the $400 job). I tell him no, that's not what we agreed to and he is completely nasty with me. Ultimately I left without a new tire, paying more than I agreed to, but only after standing up for myself and insisting on the deal we agreed to for 45 minutes while Dan yells at me. Save yourself a major headache and a lot of money. Never go to Mavis Tire, especially not this branch. read more

Made an appointment for 4 new tires and a wheel alignment. Was told it would take an hour and a half to complete. Work took over 4 hours to do! Also was told that when you get new tires you need to get new air valves for each tire at $6.99 a piece. I never was told this when I had tires put in before. Quoted me just under $400 for 2 tires including balancing and alignment 5 days ago then today tried to charge me just under $550. 2 months ago I bought the exact same tires from my mechanic and the whole service was $385 which included balancing and alignment. But here's the magical thing, after I bulked at the price, it miraculously was lowered by the manager, Dan, to $405. This is a kit for tpms sensor type valve TOTAL BS new schrader valve O-ring and collar and a valve cap. Well 9 months later after continuously needing to inflate 2 of my tires i returned to have slow leaks inspected and repaired ... got a bill for a valve stem kit and the service. Paid over $1300 for 4 tires and other services. Three tires lost significant air overnight. Brought car back and they stated they resealed the tires and sent me home. Two tires went almost completely flat within days. Took it back a 2nd time. Mgr stated rims were old and sometimes tires don't adhere well. Stated they fixed the problem this time. Tires, for the 3rd time went flat again. Took vehicle to Norms on Hooker Avenue who found rims had not been cleaned. Norm sanded rims in 5 minutes, tires were put back on and I havent had a problem since. It's almost inconceivable that a 'tire business' can provide this level of incompetence and disregard for customers. read more

If I could give "0" I would...I've been coming to Poughkeepsie Mavis by Price Chopper since 2013 for oil changes, tires, and anything else they could do for my car and what they couldn't do my car went to the dealer! I even had a tune up and serpentine belt changed with MAVIS, all in all I WAS happy with my neighborhood MAVIS...and I didn't mind spending the money either!!! But in September of 2018 it changed new hire Tianna was rude on my first encounter with her never have I been rushed to pick my car up "we close at 5 you gonna be here by 5?" Like yeah, but what's the rush... next encounter in December oil change and rotation oil change is done but not rotation...why? "We didn't have time?" Went for rotation somewhere else and tire wouldn't come off because of broken lugs what!!! Now I know this can happen but when MAVIS rotated my tires in May or June roughly 6,000 miles not one mention that lugs were broken or that they had to use mixed matched lugs on my tires they fixed after much hell raising and a rental car later. Between the rudeness and lack of communication I decided to go to another place to get my 3 month service oil change and said a self tapping plug had been put in and stripped the oil pan drainage spout and it would cost $700 to replace entire pan....what the fudge??? Called MAVIS they had to tow my car and replace the oil pan with an after market Honda part...here's the kicker "it sounds like he said she said" like somehow your lack of communication was my fault!!! Their poor craftsmanship and communication. MAVIS sucks and the attitude of their staff about what they do or don't do to your vehicle is what caused them to incur work that was unpaid by me the customer. Keep your receipts!!! I'll stick with high ass dealer prices cause a flunky teaching another flunky how to work on cars is all MAVIS is about! read more

Went there for a car inspection. After about 45 mins was walked out to my car to discuss problems they had found. Front sway bar ends were cracking which I was aware of and willing to have them replace with a part I already had available. No issues there. Next they walked me to the rear wheels where I was told both rear coil springs were broken. The so called mechanic pried on the springs and said "see, they move so they are broken" I have worked on many vehicles over 50+ years so I should recognize broken springs. The fact that springs move when force is applied is what springs will do, does not mean they are broken. When questioned they just repeated they are broken and won't pass inspection. When we do replace the springs we also need to replace the struts since they are over due being replaced as a maintenance procedure. Sounded fishy so I checked the maintenance procedures. In none of scheduled procedures is replacement required. I also believe they would need to do an alignment as well adding to the cost. At this point I just wanted out of there so asked to have the wheels put back on and call me when they could locate the parts. My next stop was to a trusted and very experienced mechanic that replaced the front sway bar and checked the rear coil springs. Said he found absolutely nothing wrong with either rear spring. Then took my car to a different inspection station and it was passed with out finding any problems. So, what was this particular Mavis attempting to do? Did they see a 70+ year old man as an easy target for hundreds of dollars of unneeded repairs? Sorry, I have not lost my mental abilities yet so won't be their easy target. I have bought tires there, but no more. But be very skeptical of repairs they may claim you need......you have been warned. I am required to give them at least one star. Please be careful of this particular business. They lure you in with a low ball price they whack you with a higher one. When I went to pick up my mini van they returned it to me with oily black fingerprints everywhere. The camel that broke my back was my drive seat is automatic and was working fine when I brought it in BUT when I picked it up it was broke. Will be bringing my car back in to have them fix my seat! My brakes started to sound like metal to metal on a Friday and brought it in on a Saturday and I was told that my brake calipers were frozen. I have a Extended warranty and told them so they asked me if they could call the Extended warranty company to see if the were covered under the warranty and I was told they we're not, so I called the Extended warranty company and they told me they were but found out that mavis told them that there was no pads on them and caused the calibers to freeze up so the warranty company would not reimburse me because of that. I have done brakes on my own car all of the time and didn't do it this time as it was to cold out. I also know that a brake pad does not wear that much in 13 hours and end up with no pad. So they got my last 400 dollars and I do buy all my tires from them and they lost that to. I will do my business elsewhere for now on. I don't know where the app thinks I'm Debbra I'm not. I ordered a couple of tires online and had them put on there with no problem, but after they tried to rip me off on my inspection and lie to me about the NYS rules, even after I called them back after getting the rules about the tint in writing they still argued. I used to do NYS inspections myself as a tech, plus I know plenty of cops, and got the new rules in writing, and they still tried to lie to me. So who knows what else they will try to pull. This place is terrible. I just needed two new tires because I had run over a screw. After that they convinced me that I needed an alignment too. Okay. But when I drove off, the car pulled more to the right than before! I came back to have it fixed and went down to another store to shop. They called to ask where my wheel lock key was - before I could walk back down to get it out for them, they had emptied my trunk contents onto the ground searching for it. I really don't appreciate my things being gone through and handled with greasy hands! Thanks.. My shoes and jacket smell like an engine now... Just don't go here. Do NOT trust this store. They failed my car inspection due to brakes because they wanted me to get the brake work done there - said, quote, "you basically have no brakes". I had suspicion at the time, asked them why I didn't hear any sound if the brakes were down to metal, they gave me a bs answer that "newer cars don't have the tab that warns you". Took the car to another mechanic, where they said the brakes were definitely not low enough to fail inspection. Meanwhile, my car was illegal for a few days and and it was a big inconvenience. I have never had a problem with the work done at Mavis Tire nor have I ever had any unauthorized work added to by bill and have always gotten prices better than the competition.
