Take your car somewhere else. You should absolutely not let anyone at Mavis touch your vehicle. At this location or any other. Short version: Didn't even try to address the reason I brought my car in, charged for a bunch of unrelated work, damaged my car in the process. I brought my car in for an oil change and to have a specific problem looked at, which I described to the woman behind the desk when I dropped my car off. I later learned from the receipt that the only note she bothered to take down was "car don't accelerate." She called me later and detailed a list of things that needed to be fixed, which I, as a not car-person, had naively assumed would address the specific issue I was seeing, so I said go ahead and fix it. After taking the entire day from 8am to close to finish, I get my car back only to find that despite the massive bill, the issue I came in for in the first place has not been addressed at all. It was closing time and I needed my car the next day, so I just took it home and figured I'd bring it somewhere else. On my way home every bump and uneven surface I drove over produced a horrible screeching/grinding/slipping noise from the front wheels. This continued for a few days so I brought it back in to Mavis under warranty, but they did absolutely nothing and adamantly claimed that the issue couldn't have possibly been caused by the work that they did, despite the fact that it didn't exist prior to the service and started one second after I drove it off their lot. It seems like the business model of Mavis is to lie to and scam their customers because they aren't capable enough to provide service worth your dollars. Go literally anywhere else. read more

I honestly don't understand how this place has good reviews. My family has been coming to THIS MAVIS AND THE Manville Mavis for years and has spent a lot of money here -- and nearly every single time, the experience has been terrible. Most recently, they sold me a faulty battery. AAA couldn't get my car started, and when I brought it to a different mechanic, they confirmed it was defective. I went back to Mavis and spoke with someone at the counter who was polite, but failed to mention their "no refund" policy -- which, by the way, is nowhere on the receipt. He asked me to wait for the manager, who was at lunch. About 15 minutes later, she called me already prepared for an argument. I hadn't even explained the situation before she cut me off and told me flat-out: no returns. I told her I had just spent $500 on two batteries in two days, and she didn't want to hear it. I wasn't even asking for a full refund -- I would've settled for half of the $260 I paid. But now I'm stuck with an extra battery that I don't even know works. The location was at your 612 US-206, Raritan, NJ 08869 address. I went for a wheel alignment on the 20th of last month before a road trip with my family. We were lucky to be alive when I arrived and looked at the tires. There was a slight shake at speed after the alignment was done but I did not have time to return to the shop. The fairly new tires were worn down to the cables. I went to a tire shop in Florida that showed me pictures of the bolts and a computer printout of the wheel alignment proving it was never performed. I was kept at Mavis for about three hours for the wheel alignment. As I did not have time for the oil change on that day I did it myself this past Sunday 4/28/2024. Your technicians did the previous oil change and had not replaced the washer, only put the bolt into the pan and about 60% of the screws keeping the protective shield in place under the engine were missing. I would not have discovered this if I had not done the oil change myself. I doubt the oil filter was even changed, but I can't prove that. The average customer would not have discovered or known about these things. Mavis is refusing to reimburse me for the new tires I had to purchase as a result of their not performing a wheel alignment, they are offering a credit for the wheel alignment they charged me for and never performed. I am asking for a check in the amount of the wheel alignment I paid for and did not receive and full reimbursement for the tires I had to purchase to return home. 1. I was in there all of 4 minutes and felt so belittled. I say I had an appointment and before even getting my name or anything he says it's going to be a long wait. Felt so rushed to get out. The guy wouldn't help with any information. After I say I might be at the wrong one, he says I know and that's the end of it. I had my car towed there with a flat tire. After thinking it needed to be replaced, they informed me they could patch it up. They were friendly, courteous, quick and professional. I was surprised to have my car back so quickly. After explaining to them that the tire pressure has been going low for quite some time, they told me if it goes low again after their repair, that I could bring it back and they would take care of it at no additional cost. I was in Flemington for a baseball tournament and the battery in my van died. I got a jump and came here on the recommendation of roadside service. Huge mistake. They charged me $300 for a new battery and then told me that I needed a new alternator. I told them that I would take my chances. Bottom line is my alternator is fine. The receipt they gave me was not even itemized so they can maintain plausible deniability. Avoid this place like the plague. I went in to get front and rear brake pads replaced. Five hours later the car was done and as I drove two blocks away the driver side wheel started smoking. I returned and was told that the caliper was incorrectly installed on that tire. God knows why they had to remove the caliper to replace the pads but that's a different story. Naturally, they didn't have any parts so 36 hours later I got my car back with supposedly different calipers and different rear pads. 4000 miles later the passenger side rear was grinding. I brought the car to the dealership and they said that that rotor was completely Destroyed, and they showed me the large indentation surrounding the rotor. Keep in mind my car had 65,000 miles on it when I brought it to Mavis with no noise whatsoever. I figured the pads had to be replaced at some point. I would really think twice about bringing your car there even if they have deals that appear to be good. read more

The price quoted was good, I removed the 2 wheels from my car, they had the tires I wanted in their warehouse which were delivered in the afternoon and installed and I had the wheels with new tires on my car by late afternoon. Price quoted for 2 tires was reasonable, however, without my glasses, I wasn't able to see the invoice pricing until I arrived home. I had paid a $25. deposit when tires ordered over the phone. I was charged for wheel balance which should have been included in the "out the door" price. They pulled this once before but I caught it and they removed it. Missed it this time. Next time I'll purchase from Mercedes dealer and get a loaner instead of waiting 2 1/2 hours even with an appointment. read more

I have a set of winter tires, mounted on rims in the trunk and asked them if they could put them on instead of the rotation.... they initially said it would cost me $60 extra. When I mentioned the MAVIS in Greenbrook does it for free, they agreed to do it for $15 "this time". When I picked up my car they mentioned that I was missing 3 wheel studs. I told them how another Mavis location broke 2 of them.. did you guys break one as well? They said no! You brought it in that way. On the counter next to the register is a jar filled with metal shards, screws and sharp objects. The jar is labeled "stuff we removed from peoples tires". On the top of that jar was my wheel stud and lug. The one they said was missing when I got there. Yesterday, When I priced out a replacement of my studs, and a brake job... they quoted me $250. The Mavis in GreenBrook quoted me $200. read more

They had my car for 3 days. All I needed were new tires that they had on premise an oil change and front-end alignment. I spoke to several people who continually promised to get it done and call me. The first day, no call, and they didn't answer the phone. After having my car for 7 hours, I got a ride to the shop only to be told they were too busy and would do it the next day. Day 2, more promises. Got a call cause they couldn't locate the wheel lock. Told them it was in trunk and was promised a return call if not found. After 6 hours, there was no call, and no one answered the phone. Got a ride to shop. Still not done. Claimed they looked and couldn't find wheel lock. I asked why they didn't call, and they said they were too busy. I found the wheel lock in the trunk, where I told them it would be. Their response? You should keep it in the glove box. read more

Called ahead and made an appointment a couple of days in advance for a simple rim swap. I provided all necessary replacement parts. Dropped off my car at said appointment. Got a call almost 3 hours later saying the work could not be completed because the tech never showed up for work. On top of the $106 price tag for an hours work tops, they do not honor call-ahead scheduling, and management doesn't seem to give a damn about the customers situation. To top it off, almost every single time I've called for a oil change or waited for tire work to be done, the receptionist Barbara is nothing but rude and seemingly disinterested in her job there. First time they did not replace the intake manifold and left it sitting on top of the engine, had to return after I heard a strange noise coming from the engine compartment. I don't know what was going on a couple of years ago with all the bad reviews but whatever was the matter, they have turned the place around. The guys here now are great. They've handled issues for my husband (battery) and now me (brakes) and in both cases Courtney and Eric were super polite and prompt and kept us informed. The battery replacement was less than we have paid elsewhere, and in my case they refused to even charge me for the brake repair - the hideous screeching noise turned out to be a piece of debris that had gotten caught; sure it was a simple fix but other places might not have been so honest. You know how sometimes when you leave the repair shop you feel like you've been ripped off but you're not sure how? Right. Not the case here at all. Recommend! I had gotten new tires put on at another Mavis location- and also needed my alignment fixed. Upon picking up our car from the other location, my husband and I noticed the alignment was even worse than when we dropped it off. I contacted that same shop and for three days they told me they only had one mechanic and that they couldn't get me in (to fix their mistake). I called Mavis in Raritan that next morning hoping they'd be able to help me out and they took me in right away. They fixed the alignment issue in just a few short hours and I was able to pick up the car. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and even called to follow up to make sure all was well. got 4 new tries from Mavis in bridgewater on the circle and they stripped one of the nuts and over torqued three out of the five so in turn when my car got a flat tire it was impossible to get the nuts off a cop even stopped and tried to help but it broke his wrench i had to call a tow truck and get it fixed which mavis did cover as they should but in turn I missed an entire day of work the Mavis in Clinton was pretty helpful but we'll see. read more

This is my personal OPINION. This is not the old STS with the fabulous former manager Mike. This is the new Mavis, run by twenty somethings who don't seem to know very much. Came in for a tire repair, but was told it had sidewall damage and could not be repaired. The tech goes out and told me that my battery was dead. I know it wasn't dead- I haven't had a problem in starting it in 2 years. BTW clicking is usually caused by a malfunction of the starter. I asked them to check with the exhaust pipe and solenoid connection. Instead the tech tells me my battery is dead - which it is not - I haven't had problems with that battery, nor connections, etc. The cashier gave me a new tire quote, I had to ask about the tire warranty. The repair was prorated, but I don't feel the price was as good as the old STS would have given me. After such a bad experience, I am getting my 82 year old dad to help fix my car - not the incompetent help at Mavis. I put in my alternator by myself - I can do the other repairs. ATTENTION WOMEN and men who should have but don't know about auto problems - start learning how to diagnose problems with your vehicles so you don't get taken advantage of. Google all problems with your car before going in. If my dad didn't teach me about auto repair I would have been out at least another $80. Make sure you question about the warranties on all auto parts. It is unacceptable to wait 2 hours to replace a tire with no one else in line. Advice to Mavis -hire people who have gone to tech school. Bring back Mike, the former (1980-2015) manager, even if you have to double, or triple, his old salary. Bottom line: No issues after 1 week, the shop didn't try to sell me anything extra, and John helped turn around the work the same day. ------------ Recently relocated to this area of New Jersey and was extremely underwhelmed by my first impressions of the yelp reviews of the tire service places near me. I come from a background of really only trusting my work/my friends work on anything mechanical on my car but having recently moved I am far away from all of my tools and other work areas. I was traveling for about a month and came back to 3 flat ties (all due to slow leaks - 1 that I had known about). I filled them at the house but 2 lost enough pressure over night that I didn't want to drive on them at all. Ended up choosing Mavis because they were the most cost effective in the area and seemed to be least of all evils. Man was I wrong about the second part of that, John took care of all of my concerns that day. I had my rental car for 1 last day so I was up against the clock for having to return it. I shuttled tires one by one to the shop and John ensured that it was turned around quickly. I thought maybe I might have small punctures or something but the shop didn't find any. They checked the old seal/tire bead and thats where the problem was and simply resealing that gap took care of everything. The best part of the experience was that they didn't try to sell me on anything extra. Didn't tell me I needed new tires to fix the problem or anything. read more

The Raritan location on 202 circle in NJ is horrible. The 2 tire replacement took 3 hours after saying it would be 1 hour. They were not up front with all of the additional costs. The female worker had a hissy fit and stormed out of the office raising her voice when a customer said he wanted his tire fixed and not replaced without his permission. One of the mechanics came into the lobby to get water, NO MASK, and he put his used water bottle right up to cover the spout and put water in his bottle - it was really gross, especially in this COVID time. He should have other water bottles or the company should have a water cooler for the mechanics use. I would NEVER GO TO THIS LOCATION OR RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE. read more

Came here to get my tires mounted and balanced. When I went home, I checked my wheel/tires for any damage (since most shops scuff the wheels). And 3 out of 4 wheels have scuffs on them. In addition to that, my wheels were torqued to hell. They definitely weren't torqued to spec because usually I have no problem taking my lugnuts off. I would not recommend taking your car here for tire installation. Can't comment on other things. Giving a 2 star review due to my wheels being scuffed and lugnuts over torqued. Fortunately they had friendly customer service, however I'll definitely be taking my car elsewhere next time. read more

Arrive for appointment, drop off car, and I'm told that the car will be ready in about 90 minutes. 15 minutes later, I get a call that they only have 2 of the 4 tires and they don't know what time the others will be in? Last time I checked, my vehicle had 4 tires, not 2. They couldn't have called in the morning when they realized they didn't have the tires? I was told that someone else got 2 of the tires. What? How would Mavis feel if after putting on four tires, I told them that I could only pay half because someone else got half the money before them and that I didn't know what time the other half would be available?
