Both wheel bearings were bad. The company was familiar with your work. We also paid for brakes ( that you guys changed as well ) an alignment ( that you guys had me pay for twice in less than a year. Once for new tires and once again when the wheel bearings were replaced , this amongst other things. Never did you once mention a warranty until this yelp post. Thanks but no thanks. I've had no issues getting my oil regularly changed here, but when I tried to have them fix an issue with my car's exhaust system, the experience wasn't as good. They gave me a really high quote and said I needed to replace many of the components. My recent experience with Jack, the owner of this establishment led me to form the opinion that this shop sometimes provides unreliable information possibly to boost business and the owner cannot be trusted to keep his word. We had known for some time that that we needed to replace both primary catalytic converters (cats in short) in our Honda. Cats are among the most expensive auto parts as they have Platinum in them. I had ordered the original Honda cats online but they were out of stock. In the meantime, I was looking for estimates to have them installed. When I called Freedman Auto Service, Jack answered the call. He asked to see the vehicle so I drove it over. He showed me a label on the underside of the hood that according to him, stated that my vehicle had to meet California's (more stringent than other states) emission standards even though I had bought the it in NJ. Then, without me asking for it, he gave me a written estimate for putting in two after-market cats: Magnaflow part numbers 51893 and 51898. He said that these cats met California's Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV II) standard. Later, I checked these cats out on Magnaflow website and found that they could not even be legally sold in California. The equivalent Magnaflow cats that met California ULEV II standard were far more expensive than even the original Honda cats that I had ordered. The information from Jack was clearly wrong. I am glad I checked. I called Jack and told him the situation. He advised me to wait for the original Honda cats and call him when they arrived so I did. He told me on the phone that the labor charge would be the same as in the previous written estimate for after-market cats. He further added that he did not see any reason why it would not be. I made the appointment and took the car over. When I arrived, he passed me on to one of his employees to check me in. The employee tried to get more money from me than Jack had agreed to. Along the way, I gave them a printed list of the original Honda part numbers and their descriptions that I had brought along. I asked that someone should come over to the vehicle with me to verify that all of these parts were in the trunk. That made Jack totally flip out. He said he could not verify that these parts would fit. I explained to him that I was not asking for fitness verification; just that I was handing over these parts. He said, that was already too much pressure and he had decided to back out of the deal. I asked him, "So, you are not going to keep your word?" He just stood there without saying anything and I walked out. I cannot help but wonder if this was just an excuse to get out of the deal or he was concerned that someone in his shop would steal a cat or two (each worth about $1,000) and he won't be able to say that I never gave the part(s) to them. Either way, I formed the opinion that Freedman Auto Service and his owner Jack cannot be trusted. I had the work done at a different auto shop. As a precaution, I also bought all four original Honda oxygen sensors online and had them installed along with the cats. It cost me a little over what Jack had agreed to charge me to install just the converters. The car runs great now with no Check Engine light. read more

I've only begun to use Freedman's services, but I'm feeling very encouraged. I got my first German car, a Volkswagen, in late 2018. Used to Japanese cars, I've found that my Golf has a bit more nuance with some maintenance tasks. So I've been worried about where to get it serviced. I needed a DSG fluid change. I called several shops around town and most don't do it. Freedman does! After speaking to Jake about the process, I was relieved. I had studied the process a bit, and Jake was confirming everything I had learned. The price was very fair, and they performed it in a few hours. The results are good. Another issue was my mileage. I think it's taken a hit recently. Jake offered to have a discussion about it. I came in and we talked for 15-20 minutes! The information he shared was valuable, offering several reasons for the problem, and ideas for solutions. I did a bit more research on a solution, and discovered that people were running a product directly into their fuel lines. I didn't see anyone doing it on my version of the Golf, so I got worried and gave Jake a call. On the call, he told me that it wasn't a good idea, and explained why. It made perfect sense. So he saved me a fair bit of trouble. I've only had a few experiences with Freedman so far, but I feel like I'm in good hands. On my way to work this morning, I heard a "click click click" noise coming from my rear driver side tire area. With the help of my boss, we confirmed that there was a nail in my tire. I called Freedman Auto Service and was advised to bring in my car before a certain time to avoid having to leave it overnight. I brought it in and added on an oil change and air filter replacement since I needed both done very soon, and I was told that because it was so busy I might need to leave it overnight. BUT THEY COMPLETED IT WITHIN AN HOUR!!! I go to these guys whenever I need a second opinion, or when something randomly happens to my car (like a nail in the tire), and they are always so helpful. I found Freedman through Yelp and sent my dad the first time he had car trouble. My dad has taken his rinky-dink 2004 Ford Focus to Freedman several times for repairs in the past two years or so (alternator, hose repair, etc.) and he always raves about how great the customer service is and how reasonable the prices are. The car is old and has one foot in the grave, and he's trying to make it last as long as he can. Freedman always does a great job and are speedy. For example, we took the car in Saturday around 12:30 pm (they close at 1pm and are closed on Sundays). They called my dad at 10:00 am Monday morning- the car was ready. They have never tried to upsell or BS about any nonexistent issues like many other repair places do. They are also very honest about the condition of the car and whether repairs are worth doing. They have more than earned my business and I will take my cars there for as long as I live in the Edison area, and I also highly recommend them. read more

Best auto service in central jersey. My car had been sitting for a year. I took my car to multiple places. Some said I need to do a full tune which is replacing coil packs and spark plugs. Some told me I need brake pads and rotors replaced and tires changed. I went to freedman after getting oil, oil filter and air filter changed. They looked at my car and told me brakes are good but rusted and they'll be fine after driving for sometime. They said tires were good for this season. The only problem in my car causing extra noise and loss of power was a faulty flex pipe. They pulled out the the spark plugs to ensure they're good. Now other mechanics would just tell me they have to replace the whole exhaust system because Audi doesn't make the flex pipe separately. They showed me the problem and explained very well how they're going to weld out this flex pipe and weld in a new one. After they changed the flex pipe my car has been perfect, they charged the best price possible. I did not feel like there is even any room for price negotiation. They're the most friendly auto service. I can guarantee they would never cheat you to earn extra money. I went in telling them I might need a brake change. They could have easily told me the brakes need to be changed and charged me $500+. Best auto shop I've gotten my work done from. read more

I took my Volvo here for an oil change and to get my brakes inspected as my vehicle was starting to vibrate at high speeds when I applied them. The staff were very helpful and accommodating, Jake himself test drove and worked on my car. They even gave me a ride to and from my apartment to drop off and pick up the car. I'm taking off a star because there was a little bit of over-promising and under-delivery for the time frames. After dropping off my car in the morning, I was told I would be getting a call at 5 to review the repairs and cost involved, but I ended up calling them back myself at 5:30. I was told my car would be ready to go by 2 pm the following day, but I was picked up at 2:30, and out the door a little after 3 pm. Of course, being one of the best repair shops in the area, I can understand how busy they are and the difficulty in coordinating times. It would have been fine with me if they had told me the car would be ready at 3, as I could've planned accordingly and not have been late for my 3 pm appointment. In my humble opinion, it's always better to underpromise and over-deliver when it comes to customer service. At any rate, I'm satisfied with the service I received. I liked how Jake called me a week later to check on how my car was doing. It was a nice touch and I will come again in the future. read more

What an exceptional auto shop! Jake and his team are thorough, honest and reasonably priced. Their 'drive' is in the challenge to troubleshoot auto problems. I have a 2000 Infinity I30 that had constant malfunctioning dashboard warning lights plus a complete loss of sudden engine power while driving. This caused me to recharge the battery which would only last about two weeks and I would then repeat the recharge. My own mechanic failed to locate the problem(s) even after he ran it through a diagnostic test, replaced the alternator, a coil and plug. I searched the net for a mechanic shop that dealt with a car's electrical system and found Freedman Auto Service. What attracted me to this service shop was the many satisfied customer comments. Jake and his team not only corrected the problems listed but went a step further and for a very reasonable price he had the car detailed inside and out...beautiful work, I'm very satisfied! They sell Exide batteries which last a little longer than the 18 month warranty.My battery died after the warranty.If you feel paying 125$ for a battery that lasts 18 months Is ok with you continue buying their inferior batteries.I went to another mechanic and he told me he has a lot of customers who had bad experiences with a Exide batteries.I had an Interstate battery put in and am very satisfied.Why would they carry junk batteries is beyond me.It must be the profit margin. read more

Today 8/27, I went after reading Freedman Auto Services reviews, for my Hyundai Sonata - Wheel Alignment. One of the employee did the while alignment work, he took almost 1 hour for the job. After the Wheel Alignment work had finished, I requested JACK to drive my car in order to test the Wheel Alignment. He said he couldn't test them on local roads, thus, he entered U.S. 1 South Hwy at different speeds and suddenly let go of the driving wheel and placed his hands behind his side. For a few minutes, I was shocked but realized that my car went perfectly in a straight line. Through this incident, Jack was able to certify the performance of WHEEL ALIGNMENT IS VERY PERFECT. Front Office guys are very pleasing and smiling, Mechanic - Fixed the issue - and wanted to thank him and I could find him later, & at last about the boss, JACK - is not sitting inside the AC (closed office) room, he is with customers & employees all the time. Unless you're a local to the area or know these guys, going here is not worth your time or money. As I had recently moved to the area I had hoped to find my new go-to mechanic shop, but after dealing with Freedmans I decided to go right to the dealership, which treated me far better than the treatment I received at Freedmans. Freedmans was pushy and just tries to get you to buy more than just the service you went there for. My husband and I needed to simply get our lube, oil and filters worked on for each of our vehicles and based on the reviews, I got a quote from Freedman and decided to go to Freedmans, but I will never visit again. While some of the gentleman behind the counter seem friendly, their actions and the actions of their colleagues indicate they're easily willing to rip you off until you start to do more research and make some phone calls questioning the advice they give. Some examples: These guys push for synthetic oil, which they indicate is amazing, but after speaking to the dealership, I found out it really wasn't necessary and I paid double or triple the amount I should've for the lube, oil or filter because I took it to Freedmans. It's true I could've said no, but I was trusting that these guys knew what they were talking about and know cars better than I do. Also, they tried getting me to buy a battery from them when the car is barely 2-3 years old. Even if I needed a new battery, which the dealership later told me I didn't for at least another year or two, these guys should not have simply pushed for me to a buy a battery, but if they're as nice and helpful as everyone in most of the other reviews say they are, they should have mentioned that being it's a newish car, it may still be under warranty, but that if I wanted I could buy a battery from them I could. That would have been the proper way to handle the situation. But no, they made it sound as though my battery would die any minute and I really needed another one immediately. Thankfully, when I later decided to go the dealership, I found out that I was still under warranty and while my battery was fine, it would be covered under warranty if it goes bad. They managed to convince my husband and I that my husband's car needed a new battery, so they managed to get some money out of us for that, when it's possible he didn't need it either, but oh well. I guess that's what we get for being gullible out-of-towners. Do yourself a favor and unless your a friend of someone who works there or know these guys well, don't bother and go right to someone who won't rip you off. read more

Originally I turned to Yelp to help me find a trustworthy mechanic near me. Yelp has yet to fail me!! Dropped my car off at Freedman Auto on a Saturday-I knew it needed a crap ton of work, but it started with me asking for an oil change and a vehicle check over. It didn't surprise me when we found out what was actually wrong with the car, what surprised me was how quick and efficiently they fixed it!! (My dad is a mechanic and so we already had an idea of what was wrong, he just didn't have what he needed to fix it). My car is a 2004 and it's running like I bought the 2016 version of it. They've fixed all the problems in a matter of 2 days and the entire experience will keep me a loyal customer for any car needs I may have. I wanted to get the tires changed on my car. With a scheduled appointment and a hope that all goes well, I went in, only to be greeted by the owner in the most enthusiastic way! He wasn't just gracious but so understanding as well. Here's how, I wanted to change the tires that I had with something new and good, yet inexpensive, so I'd narrowed down on NEXXUS tires for a grand total of $483 for my car's specs. However, I had the specs wrong, and technically required tires with a bigger dimensions. I also had thought of splitting the costs of changing the tires to two payments, so in my head, I'd get two front tires changed now, and then come back a month later to get the next set changed. Mr. Freedman had such a keen sense of customer satisfaction that he was able to figure this whole deal out without having spoken to me before. So, ultimately, he not only worked out a financial plan for me to pay for two tires a little later, but also gave me better tires that would fit, and glide on the road, but also work well within my budget!
