I had new brake pads installed about 1 1/2 years ago at the Mavis that shall not be named. The pads are covered for life, I noticed a squeaking sound when driving on Friday. I pull into the Smithtown Mavis Discount Tire and spoke with Steve. He was cool, he had one of the mechanics immediately look at my car. They call me over and said, whoever installed the pads didn't grease them which scored the front rotors. Son of a beeswax! Not to worry, we'll get it straight. Now, I grab the manager. I tell him, you're charging me for labor for something that wasn't my fault. This is where the five yelp stars comes in. He was a true professional and simply said, I understand. From the start with not having your paperwork in the system to the ruined rotors, its been a bad Mavis experience. I know you have 6 cars, I want to be your Mavis shop for all your cars. I will take off the labor for the part that wasn't your fault. To me, that seems fair. I can't spell the guys name but from the mechanic who worked on my car to Steve behind the desk, this shop may be where I'll come more often. 5 stars from me today. Get ready for the hard sell. Every time I have went to this Mavis i always get the hard upsell. I just went to have a slow leak plugged and he tried to sell me new tires then explained who ever fixed it last didn't do a good job. i told him he was the one who repaired it. I explained its a lease and its going back in a few months and he gave me an attitude. Then told me the plug can't be fixed. I had made an apt with another mavis in Smithtown (next to wine guy) early in the day and told do bring the car in for a flat after work! When I got there 3:50pm they said I was too late they are not taking any more people! I didn't even get a chance to tell them I had an apt (they knew I would be in at around 4pm) and I was literally shooed out of the parking lot and told to get air from a gas station next door!!!! Now I'm just moved into the area and was desperate. I only had 10lbs of pressure left in my tire! I drove a little and found a mavis (at this point I didn't even think I wanted to try) at 393 middle country road Smithtown and walked in distressed! Been coming here for years. The best part about this place is the Customer service. Great management and workers. The work is always done either quickly and or in a fair amount of time. Everyone is polite and seem honest. Never felt taken advantage of here. One cool thing I witnessed today was a lady had had a "molly plug" installed on her oil pan here in the past to prevent oil leakage. She came in in a panic saying that she has her car at Toyota, brought it to them for inspection and oil change but they refuse to fix molly plug and wanted to charge her exorbitant amount of money to fix whole oil pan can they help her . They said sure bring it over when she's done. I overheard them speaking when she left saying that they would drain her oil for free and replace the molly plug for free when she comes back even though she had taken the car elsewhere, Because it's the right thing to do. That just cements my view. I only wish they had nicer waiting room ;) But great place for your car read more

Finally had a great experience at a repair center thanks to Steve. Had a problem with rattle noise coming from the front end and he figured out what it was and went the extra mile to not throw parts at it and determine what the actual problem was. That's a miracle these days. To make things better when I had the alignment it didn't need to be aligned so he only charged me 20 to check it where others would have charged the full price. Ever since they changed owners, it's all new people - tattoos, smoking. It seems I always have to come right back because I hear a noise - they didn't tighten up a screw, valve, etc. They are too much in a hurry. There is one guy left from the old crew - Chris. If you are lucky enough to get him - he's the only one who's the best. Even though the hours list as 8am, don't go at 8am - just the manager is there, the rest of the crew come at 9am. read more

They carelessly rushed through my inspection and break pad replacement. I soon noticed a creaking / grinding noise and took it to the dealership. They let me know that the break pads were put on improperly, they were not greased, etc. I had the dealership put them on the right way and it fixed the problem. I wasted time and money with Mavis. They have an unfriendly staff and negative vibe there but that has never bothered me as long the job was done right. This experience confirmed that those gut feelings were something I should have acted on. read more

I would give no stars if I could. Do not go to mavis discount tires. Went to mavis discount tire at 393 middle country road in Smithtown today to have tires replaced that we were still way with in the warranty coverage. When we called we were told they'd be covered. After my husband sat there for over 2 hours and they finished he was told he was going to have to pay because they didn't think the tires had been aligned and we needed proof that they were. First of all no one tells you when you purchase your tires that you have to get the tires aligned every 9 months for the warranty to be valid. Second, how can they prove that it's not a default on their end. Our mechanic said he wouldn't let his worst enemy drive on those tires when he saw them. Our car is inspected regularly and suddenly our tires are in horrible shape? We will never use mavis again and recommend the same for others!! read more

Horrible service. Called before I came into the store so I get a good price and make sure the job could be done before they close. I talked to a guy before that apparently from their headquarters and I got 4 tires(255/55/18 Pirelli Scorpio Verde) for $720 installed with road hazard and tax. Went to the store, gave a price of $850. Well I said I want this price but Bob was very rude and had my old tires back on and had me out of the workshop in less then 10 mins. Bob was extremely, had me shut up about 3 times. Horrible service, workers were very mean and rude as well. Never coming back to Mavis again. Don't go to this Mavis or the islandia one either because these stores are worthless. Very rude people. Had me waste my time, cancel appointments and my gas. Better off going to tire rack read more
