This five stars review is for the fresh, flaky, crispy, the right amount of sugar powder, and melt-in-your-mouth Elephant Ear any day without waiting for the fair! You need to take your luck and stop by and see if they open since their hours on Yelp are not accurate or current. I did not call the phone listed on Yelp, so I may need to do it next time. My first time there was about three weeks ago during lunch without looking for anything special. Since then, I stopped by between 2-4 pm, and they closed, so I am craving it! I also ordered the beignet and was not impressed since I still tasted the uncooked thick dough. I would order this again before giving my final take on it and other things on their menu. I loved their humor decors; they all made me giggle, looking at and reading them. They are conveniently located at the Corner 14 Food Pod with other carts with limited parking on the pavement area; otherwise, it's gravel underneath a bridge/overpass structure, so drive slowly. My wife comes from Louisiana, and grew up on southern food. Sadly this did not hit the mark. The best part was the Beignets, these were delicious and we all loved them. My son chose to have the Alligator Nuggets! The redeeming factor here was that they were still tender. It seemed the oil was likely too hot, or overused and the breading was lightly burned. Either way they still had an okay taste, they were mostly missing that golden brown color that you hope for when getting breaded fried foods. The crawfish etouffee was pretty disappointing for us. The sauce/gravy to rice ratio was WAY off, essentially it was about a 2 inch tall pack of rice, and a drizzle of gravy. The gravy's seasoning was disappointingly spicy just to be spicy instead of having an even blend of flavor and space. Had the flavor punch been balanced with the spice level it would have at least tasted better, and felt better generally speaking. Lastly the crawfish were cut up into even tinier pieces, which made for a lack of protein in this dish. While the decoration outside the cart is fun and enticing, the food, and the personal experience were lacking. There was very little excitement in the truck, and seemingly a lack of passion/engagement that we've experienced at other food trucks that change the overall experience for us. We had fun trying out a food that has deep roots in our family, and may come back to see if we can get a redemption review in the future. read more

I ordered the catfish po boy, and it was just OK. Really nothing stood out as good or bad about it. Coleslaw was bland and overly sweet. I also got the hushpuppies which were too sweet for me, but they had a nice texture. Sauces were not great. The ambiance at the truck pod was really great, though. Love this place absolute favorite food cart anywhere. The Cajun catfish is perfectly cooked every time and catfish is not easy to cook. Love the etouffee poured on top, the greens are good even the red beans and rice and potato salad are good. Place is solid do not hesitate. One thing I will say, while their gator is good, gator isn't for everyone so maybe don't get the gator the first time and review the place based on your first impression of eating alligator instead eat something familiar first then branch out or buy both and separate your feelings for alligator and the food cart itself. read more

Happy to have some Cajun food in the area! Our food was ready in 10 minutes and there was only one thing we ordered that was disappointing, but everything else was delicious. The Hubs had the shrimp po' boy sammie, which he said was really tasty and a good size, too. Their coleslaw and mustard greens were also top notch, and I especially liked how they chop their mustard greens up into smaller pieces (normally it's served in bigger cuts, but the smaller chop made it much easier to eat, in my opinion). The disappointing dish was the crawfish étoufée, which other than the heat-level of spice (medium spicy), was rather bland. There was a good amount of crawfish in it, though, so that was good. The portion size on the étoufée was pretty big, too. It would be nice if they offered the rice dishes, such as the étoufée, in two sizes. read more

I really wanted to have some fried catfish, so I set out on a Sunday afternoon to get some here. After circling around for 20 minutes, I finally found a parking spot. It was further than my old legs wanted, but we can't always get what we want. I figured the whole food cart pod was really busy. I got to the food carts, and not only wasn't it busy, half of them were closed! Maw Maw's looked like it was open, but there was no one in the cart, so I just finally gave up, and left. Not wanting a repeat, the next Saturday I decided to order using GrubHub, and let their driver deal with the mess. (I was even going to slip him/her some extra cash for putting up with the mess.) I ordered my catfish, and braced myself to be blown away. But 20 minutes later, I get a message from GrubHub that my order was canceled because the cart was closed. Getting food shouldn't be this hard. I won't be trying again. read more

The fish was crispy and well-seasoned, the beans and rice were tender and flavorful, and the coleslaw was sweet and crisp. Visited today, their first full day open at this new food pod. This Food Cart Pod, (I think it's called 14th Street Pod?) is well designed and laid out with beefy wooden benches and tables. Large covered area and most of the uncovered tables had retractable umbrellas. Menu had a great selection of my favs; Po Boys, Catfish, etc. I had the Catfish platter with 2 sides; slaw and hush puppies. Food came out hot and super yummy. Perfect portion for me, not too big, not too small. For $11, a good value. Hush Puppies were some of the best I've had, the catfish was lightly breaded and perfectly cooked, very moist and not greasy at all. Slaw is homemade, very fresh and tasty with a lemon squeeze. They have hot sauce packets to heat things up, but I would recommend they offer a "shake" over your dish of some kind of Cajun spices for people who like a bit more zing. I will be back to try the other options on their menu. OH, and there is a full bar you can order from your phone for tasty beverages at your table. I have been to corner 14 many times and had trouble branching out from Adelina's (great Mexican food truck). Today I went for it and got the catfish po boy. The gals in the truck were super friendly and told me the catfish is the best around. I assume most business owners believe in their product and would say something like that, I decided I'd decide for myself. It was the best catfish I've ever had. Now, I'm not from the south but I have worked in the seafood industry for quite some time. So fresh, balanced sandwich flavor wise, just so so freaking good. The sweet tea was also excellent. Do not try the gumbo. This was the worst gumbo I have ever tasted,I spent $12 on it and it had an overload of salt (like they emptied a whole canister in it.) Also they over change. SUCH A DISSAPPOINTMENT! BURNED TWICE! Was it on purpose? We certainly think so. This place lacks integrity and won't be getting our money ever again. Their true colors certainly were showing; not the way I'd do business, but you do you Michelle. It was late. We needed some comfort food. Chose this place randomly because my partner grew up on southern cooking and deserved a treat after dealing with life the last few months. So! Maw Maw's looked good. We ordered alligator bites, hush puppies, greens, and beans. As soon as we opened the container of alligator, we saw that it was burnt. Dark brown dark. Disappointed, my partner called in to ask about it. Yes, Michelle (owner) offered to make it up to us somehow, either a refund or..? Giving them the benefit of the doubt, we chose to re-order it for mid-week, early evening, but it wasn't an easy conversation to come to this conclusion. First, Michelle denied our concern. She believed since the oil was changed that morning, then it was impossible to burn the alligator. She denied, denied, denied. I can say, I have never had alligator and didn't know what to expect, but my partner has and we both saw how dark those crispy inedible nuggets were. No Michelle, Cajun is not burned. That darkness was not the seasoning making it look darker. It tasted burnt. We took a photo and sent it in. She still continued to deny and refused any accountability. They tasted burned and we had to toss them. If she really wanted to keep her customers happy and continuing to eat there, she'd apologize and tell her chef to do better. Yesterday, we went to pick up our replacement order of the same thing. I told the guy at the at the counter we had called ahead and Michelle was replacing our order. He didn't ask what the order was. He didn't even ask our name; he KNEW we were the ones who complained about the food being burned last week. She had promised it would be ready when we got there, so we called 20 min ahead. The chef didn't say a word to us. Instead, he turned around and started making food. He didn't wash hands or put on gloves. We waited a good 15 minutes for the food to be ready at this point. Standing there ready to eat, I was getting concerned it was taking so long. I asked if it was almost ready and sure enough it was. Still not speaking, he handed me the bag. What? Catfish got your tongue Mr. Chef? Your character is certainly spiny like a croc, have any of that for sale? Is it burned too? This time, ALL of it was dark brown and inedible (minus the greens they didn't include). This time the oil wasn't burned which deduces us to realize that they burned it on purpose. The hush puppies were nearly black. The alligator just as dark. Honestly, the original order was late. I'm sure they wanted to close the shop down and so they rushed, maybe even turned up the heat so it didn't take long? I don't know. I still trusted the product would be delicious for the replacement order. My mouth was watering for those nuggets, couldn't eat any of it. I wouldn't even give it to a homeless person on the side of the road, they would have been offended to get garbage. read more

We have been to Maw Maws 14 times in the last few months, I have recommended it multiple times to close friends. The Gumbo is as good as I have had in Oregon. It is full of flavor and fills the tummy. The Jambalaya is awesome, lots of flavor and the portions are perfect. The Po Boys are really good and super filling. Gator bites are great. Now the for the best, the Mustard Greens are freaking fantastic, they remind me of my Grandmother's. Get them!! read more

But I ordered a catfish PO boy for $13 it takes a while to make (which is fine I understand) I get my food and when I get it it's the smallest piece of catfish on my jumbo hotdog bun wit lettuce and tomato. I was like ok maybe it'll taste really goo. I take my first bite and this shit fills my mouth with bread n veggies and a little bit of catfish every bite. I stopped eating a quarter way through the sandwich ad just threw it away. Not even seasoned or not enough just STRAIGHT BLAND!! Very disappointing. Catfish on the poboy was good but there was SO much bun and little fish. Coleslaw was bland and runny. But the worst was the beignets. They weren't drained after being removed from the fryer, just tossed in powdered sugar. Wish I had taken a photo before I threw out (took to go so was not able to take them back) There was a thick gloppy layer of brown goo (sugar and fryer grease) around each one. Poo Boys sandwich was awful and I got 2 of them. 80% bread and so dry. Alligator and chicken had zero seasoning. Bits of lettuce. Literally biting into a loaf of bread. Fries were cold. Hush puppies were ok but again no sauce for dipping them. I got 2 sticks of butter with them that were frozen. If you're doing Cajun you need that seasoning.
