Worst experience at a restaurant ever. Owner can't keep personal life separate from work. He yells at costumers if they don't call him "SIR". He says he says 23 years of experience, but he obviously hasn't learned anything about dealing with customers. I just asked for water, and he got ticked off, especially if you are Somali origin, don't give a penny. This was really good. I went here with a friend and ordered a combo meal plus dessert which was the perfect amount of food to split. The owner is friendly but not overly chatty. I don't think you can go wrong when choosing an item but I highly recommend getting the baklava for dessert, it's $2 and can be wrapped and taken home if you're not hungry for it immediately. read more

I had the lamb kebob and my wife had the gyro salad. Everything was absolutely incredible! The garlic salad dressing we licked from the cup, and it was great to dip the lamb in. Do you all have dead taste buds, or is it a bunch of hungry teenage boys who will eat any & everything who are writing these reviews?!! The young man at the front counter was nice, but he never checked on us; never refilled my water- & it was HOT today!! The garlic fries cost too much for the little amount they give you, but they were good, but really- should that be the best thing going? I had a gyro: the worst I've ever had! It was dry, it wasn't garlicky, and it taste more like something else- rather than lamb. I also didn't care for the tzikki at all; I didn't eat half of it. My friend ordered a combo gyro & felafel platter, but the gyro meat was served separate w/ a couple triangles of pita bread on the side, and 2 felafel balls that were rather dry. Last but not least- the lemonade was absolutely NASTY, NO SWEETNESS at all! How can you screw up lemonade that bad?!!! The first handful of times I went to Mawadda, I was in love. The owner was kind, the food was amazing, and even though the restaurant was small, it was still kept nicely. Then, I made the mistake of starting to order To Go. This is when the quality, consistency and even taste of their food swings from amazing to "wtf did I just eat?" I typically always order chicken shawarma and it's usually the sauteed chicken pieces with onion and full of flavor. The last time it was 6 round, though slightly flat balls of orange colored chicken. What this boils down to for me is the fact I do not believe they put the quality in their food to go as much as they do if you eat in the store. The last time I ordered, my boyfriend and I both ordered extra tzatziki sauce and in my box, the hummus dip (that doesn't even come with my order) was shoved into the tzatziki sauce container (no lid) and sauce had covered my entire entree. That's annoying and could and should have been avoided with just an extra half a second of care. I probably wouldn't even be writing this review if that wouldn't have happened. This would have been a place I'd give 5 stars to, but I can't patronize a restaurant that can't put 1/10th of the effort into to-go orders as they do eat-in. read more

I must agree that the food is delicious. Be sure not to pay with a card however. The $3.00 tip got charged as $3000.00 at the end of the day. When I called they "corrected" their mistake, but when I went in I found they had credited the money to a different customer. I was made to wait for an hour while he tried to get HIS money back. Several times the owner said that if we had called him an additional time that he wouldn't have lost HIS money. Let's just say that while the food is good the owner is not. read more

I tried this place for the first time today. I got the falafel sandwich as it's Friday in lent and I cant eat meat. YUM! Superb flavor! It was reasonably priced and obviously freshly made from good ingredients and the proper combinations of spice. The man at the counter was cute and genuinely friendly. The place was nice/comfortable, and you can tell it's authentic. Unfortunately there seems to be a trend these days in supplying low-quality, overpriced Greek food. I for one wont have it! We've been forever searching for a good Greek restaurant in the southend. Mawadda is a find, serving not only Greek, but Mediterranean dishes. We have not been disappointed in anything we have ordered so far. The Chicken Kabobs are tender, tasty and charred to perfection. The creamy dressing on the salad and for dipping your meat is a fabulous mild garlic sauce - something you cannot replicate in your own kitchen. This tiny cafe is going on our top 10 list of favorites. Oh, and the prices are so reasonable. OMG! If you live in or near Burien, WA you have *got* to try this place! Now I'm not one to do reviews, but every now and then, well, you've just gotta speak out. It's too hot to cook so I wanted something light and cheap for lunch. I googled cafes in Burien and found Mawadda. Apparently they've been here for quite some time. It's at 142nd & 1st Ave, in the Freddies complex just North of Jack-in-the-Box. I got the greek salad ($5.99) and the large hummus with pita ($3.99). All of the food was reasonably priced or cheaper even though they could charge so much more given the quality. The hummus was to die for! There was a reddish spice sprinkled on top with a bitter/tart taste that reminded me of kalamata olives. It was a great touch to the hummus. It was offered with tsatziki as a dressing which totally transformed it. Meanwhile, the staff was amazingly friendly and attentive. And like many of my foodie friends they seemed especially pleased just to have people to feed. Now I know most of you on this list won't get your knickers in a twist because they are Muslim. However I have to point out that in defiance of the stereotype they were also incredibly courteous and polite to all the women that came in, whether we wore burkas or not. The food here is really great for the low price. I had a gyro and the hummus and was impressed with both. I think the hummus at many places is a bit bland, but the hummus here is creamy and zesty. The staff were really friendly and I received my food quickly. There is so much to choose from on the menu, and I am looking forward to going back and trying something different in the future. read more

We arrived 20 minutes prior to closing with the intent of placing a to go order and the man announced they were closed when we entrred. Upon questioning him, he agreed to take our order. First, this place would've received a 5th star had it not been such terrible service. I walked in at 12 noon, the place had 1 customer in there besides myself and initially there was no sign of any employee, as they were all in the kitchen. I waited at the counter for about 5 mins when finally someone came out and took my order, I was told then to take a seat it would be a few minutes. I didn't see anyone who worked there for another 10-15 mins, I could here them talking in back making food. During that time, another customer came in, waited a bit and then left. I ordered the Lamb Gyro and it was amazing, also Grape Stuffed Leaves was tasty. Definitely give them a try, oh and don't forget to order a drink, they don't have waiters/staff apparently and I was never asked for one but I wanted to. Excellent food from a little-known place. The fried tilapia is my particular favorite. Also try the grilled eggplant - as good as any you will find. This place deserves a lot of support, the food is just delicious. Their basmati rice is top-notch, well cooked. There's great attention to the service and the presentation. I used to be his number customer! But after having hair in my food 3 times I just can't stomach to go back. It was the best food I had but the service in non existent. My final time in I called in an order for 2 lamb gyros and they somehow mistakenly made 4. So the guy asked what he was supposed to do with them. When I told him I only needed 2 he said to take the 4 and he would make it right. When I looked at my receipt the next day he charged me for 4 gyros, full price. They don't do refunds even when there is hair in the food so they lost a good customer. read more

The owners are really nice & do their best to keep you happy. I always get #6 which is the falaffel & gyro salad. Very tasty, light meal but satisfying. I have eaten here 4+ times now & although there are a couple of things I dont care for the food isn't one of them and I keep coming back. I disliked that I had to ask for water but thats how it is, there are also some inconsistencies of the menu. For example there is usually only one type of desert in at a time despite 4 being on the menu. Once they were out of chai tea. Again it's a family restaurant so they don't dote on your table but are very kind and attentive when you do ask for something. Our lunch club (4 plus a big service dog) ate here this month. I am a real fan of Mediterranean food, and the gyro exceeded my expectations. As others have said, the kitchen/service is a little slow, but it is family owned with only two people working, and I don't mind waiting for good food. Only negative is that I didn't much like the baklava (normally a real favorite). Bottom was cake-like instead of lots of layers of flaky pastry and serving size was quite small. But I will be back for the excellent gyros, and it won't hurt me to skip dessert. read more
