Hate to write this, but needs to be done. I've eaten here a handful of times over the years and never been impressed. For some reason I tried it again today and was once again disappointed. Placed an online order to go: Greek fries and a side of gyro meat to throw on top, since sandwiches and bowls are $13-$16! Insane. I saw the bowls, they're not large. Not a great deal by any stretch, but that's lunch hour in Seattle I guess. The fries were soggy, barely any feta on top, and the "gyro" meat is just freakin' weird. It tastes like lamb meatballs. Not at all what I expected. On top of this, my order was not ready and I ended up waiting 15 minutes. Three people in line in front of me and three behind, but just one guy behind the counter taking and prepping orders, tickets popping out of the machine left and right until he cried uncle for some help. "Wow it got busy fast, went from no orders to backed up!" Yeah dude, it's 12:15. People get off at 12, call it in, take a piss and start walking to the restaurant, just like every lunch rush every day in a busy commercial core. I also dislike having to wait in line for a pickup order. I'm in a hurry. If you can't accommodate, I can go somewhere else. Just leave my order out! We also ordered their garlic fries (extra crispy) & a mint lemonade. We selected seats facing out the window, looking out towards the busy California Ave street. Within a few minutes, our drink came out with our beef gyro pita and Falafel salad. Just looking at the beautiful colors of the salad made me happy. After taking a bite of it made my taste buds even happier! Then I looked at the beef gyro pita. At 1st glance, it looked plain bc all you can see if the meat, feta & garlic sauce oozing out of the white bread. However, once I took my 1st bite, I had to remind myself, do not judge a book by its cover. It was delicious! The pita was filled with different layers of meat, cheese, sauce, & slaw. The combination of all we're perfection! Then came the garlic fries. It looked as amazing as it tasted. Even with the garlic sauce and feta cheese drizzled on top, the fries were still crispy. Strange experience. I can't say it was negative, but... First of all, what they're serving isn't pita! It's a bun. So after a couple of minutes, it turns into a soggy bun. I approached and asked why my shawarma looks like a burger with lettuce and big pieces of chicken in a cold bun. But I was told it's pita; you can see in the picture what they called pita. It's a completely different kind of bread. I also have culinary experience, so I felt somewhat deceived. When I placed my order, I asked for "extra juicy", "extra crispy". When they took the order, they silently agreed, but then it turned out they couldn't do it. Although, it seems like putting that bun on the grill shouldn't be difficult. Anyway, the sauces are tasty, the lettuce is fresh, I even bought jars of pickles. But please, don't deceive people and don't call this strange bun - pita. It's not fair. I'd like to add that I bought 3 jars of pickles. Almost $20 worth. The employee put them in a thin paper bag, which tore after a minute. First and probably last time here. We have friends over tonight and wanted to do something we haven't tried before. We thought this would be a good choice for the group. We ordered take away and got the food back home. There was a notable disappointment after the first couple bites amongst the group. The pita is not really pita, more of a hambuger bun and not really flatbread. The hummus was very bland, the chicken wasn't terrible but the flavor of the chicken and the lamb gyro was off for Mediterranean food. The saffron rice was fine and sauces were good, but overall there is a group consensus that we will probably not be back. Fries were soggy and lacked any real amount of feta compared to photos online. We wanted to love it, but just didn't. It's unfortunate and we were all so hopeful for a great dinner. read more

Update: still kicking dolmas & taking names, Falafel Salam takes the whole cliché falafel/gyro stand concept and gives it an artisan bump, with soft, pillowy pita bread, house-made preserves, maybe the juiciest, spiciest gyro meat I've ever tasted (and I've had a few. Hundred.), and an offering of delicious beverages (tea and juice drinks, ciders and beers) that compliment their food. Don't hesitate-get "The Hesitator" ($14). That's the name of their sample platter of gyro meat, shawarma chicken, dolmas, falafel, hummus, a sampling of their house-made pickles (which they sell retail, btw), their wonderful, creamy/tangy red slaw, and a Mediterranean salad. Oh: and don't you dare miss their don't-miss, famous puffy pita bread, to mop the tahini sauce. Awesome! And unmissable. :) Feel free to yell, "Puffy Pitas!" in appreciation. We did. I highly recommend a side of the green hot sauce (more of an herbed chili paste, really) and if you're really hungry, a side of Greek fries with cardamom catsup. Ooo, and if you're drinking, wash down this colorful flavor-fest with a Turkish coffee stout. Salad: put lettuce first & top with heavy stuff on top, because it was kinda hard to get carrots & cucumbers out. Also it lacked herbs. Could use more cilantro & parsley. I took it home and made bigger salad with more herbs & lettuce & cucumber. 2. Pita bread. Texture is like cake. It need to have more chewier texture and it should be toasted to brown. This was more like cake like & too soft! I have never had this soft pita bread. Maybe it's Jordanian bread? I don't know. 3. Their infamous green sauce was too spicy and lacked cilantro taste. 4. Just come here now and get the falafel. I've been to both the Georgetown location and the West Seattle location, and I have loved both of them equally. The food here surprised me with how amazing it was. The falafel is hands down the most amazing falafel I have ever had. It's light, fluffy, and so flavorful. I was kicking myself for not getting an additional side order of falafel. That's how good it is. I wish I had more right now. Their pita is amazing. It's fresh, hot, and fluffy. So so good. I can eat so many of them. Weve had their rice plate, the rice is buttery and just delicious. Well spiced. We tried the shakshuka at the West Seattle location, and it's amazing. It is bright, flavorful, and addicting. We wanted to try their lamb pouting from their brunch menu (only available at the West Seattle location), but they were out. Their pomegranate lemonade is super tasty and refreshing as well. I'll probably just return to their Georgetown truck next time as it's closer and more convenient. Whenever I've gone in or picked up food the service has been quick and friendly. I've been wanting to try this place for awhile since I had heard great things about it from friends. I was unsure of what to order when I got here because everything sounded good. I went with "The Hesitator", which comes with a little bit of everything. It's perfect if you want to try a lot of things. It came with chicken shawarma, lamb gyro, hummus, dolma, tahini, veggies, and pita bread. All of the food on my plate was very good. My boyfriend ordered the chicken shawarma sandwich and that was excellent as well. We also tried their house-made beer that was a lemon mint hefeweizen and it was very refreshing. I'd say overall, Falafel Salam makes the best flavored chicken shawarma and lamb gyro that I've had from a Mediterranean place. They also make their own pita bread, which isn't a typical pita bread, but it's still very tasty. This restaurant catered our son's wedding on Kitsap Island in 2022 and it was delicious! They served kebabs, falafel, salads , rice, pita, and hummus from their truck. We visited the newlyweds in September 2023 and visited the restaurant. It is small, but does have a few tables to eat there. We were there for lunch and enjoyed a lamb wrap with purple fixings, chicken schwarma bowl with purple fixings, and a falafel salad with house fixings. All were great! I'm so glad that we got to enjoy a different type of meal with the same wonderful ingredients. My friend has been raving about this place and got me to check it out recently on 2 occasions. She's a health conscious individual and knows healthy food when she finds it. This food is made from scratch and does not contain the processed foods of other similar types of places. It still tastes delicious though. I have never been a lover of falafel and find the falafel here to be much more delicious than at other places. Its nice and crisp and doesn't fall apart easily, not too dry. I am also currently obsessed with the pickled mango sauce and have never quite had anything like it. The food is still made up remarkably fast. They are also always happy to make substitutions if you ask them to. I was surprised to see they also serve brunch, and even had a vegan egg substitute. I wish I knew I could use the free junction parking prior to my first visit as finding street parking was extremely stressful. My only other complaint is that some of the online menu is a little misleading in its labeling, there seems to be some confusion between its vegan and vegetarian products. read more

I've been going to Falafel Salam for three years now since I've moved to West Seattle and the only thing that keeps bringing me back is their chicken purple style pitas (when done correctly.) That's to say meat on bottom (please god, more than three chunks) and then slaw on top. When they put the slaw in first it makes the bottom of the pita all soggy and that's a no bueno. Less slaw and more chicken is always a good way to go but I guess you have to tip more to have it made the way you want.... This place is fantastic. Everything is delicious, literally everything. The falafel is some of the best o have had. The outside is crunchy but not bittey. The pits bread is the best I have ever had in my life. Ever. It's so flavorful and tender! Our experience with this food probably really deserves 3 stars, however I REALLY want this place to improve and do well so I didn't want to do a lesser rating. First off, we were kind of in a time crunch so I tried to call ahead to place our to-go order. I am not sure if they don't do this but there was no answer- so we decided to just walk in. We figured it would be quick since they started as a food truck. It took about 10 minutes to get our food, which I guess shows they prepare it fresh- but I was hoping it would be a bit quicker than that since they have a pretty simplified menu. I ordered the purple gyro salad and my husband ordered the purple gyro. While I liked all of the contents of my salad there was WAYYYY WAYYY too much purple slaw. Like way too much. I could barely find any of the greens that make up the "salad". Next time, I would order this on the side. The gyro meat did taste very good and it was a pretty good portion. I also really did not love their version of pita. It looked SO delicious in the pictures, but did not live up to my expectation. I love pita bread, like really love it, but this did not taste anything like pita to me, nor did it seem to have much of a taste at all. It also was not grilled or warm, which would have made it taste much better I think.
