This place is the real deal. Fantastic Sambusa/sambosa--I prefer the veggie and this location's recipe is slightly better than my prior favorite middle eastern place--Mawadda on Graham in Seattle. I keep wanting to order new things, but I'm really stuck on their chicken and lamb shawarma sandwiches. Thank you for existing. Edit: I should also emphasize that this is the ONLY place in far southwest Seattle that's relatively quick to get to from white center, Georgetown or environs. I must've driven by this place more than my fair share of times as it is easily passable. However when you want a break from fast food rut, Teriyaki, pizza, burgers etc. this is a very good stop to go to. This is my first time here and I had the chicken Shawarma sandwich and it did not disappoint. It was just the right size & just the right price point and was super flavorful. Looking at their other menu items I'm sure will probably be just as good. The staff is friendly it's a quiet café ,they are currently allowing The opportunity to dine in. So my next time around I will absolutely try other menu items as it looked just as good as advertised. read more

Why on earth people go to the nearby Jack-In-The-Box, when this place is literally a stone's throw away, is totally beyond me. I guess it is yet more evidence of the relative lack of culinary and cultural sophistication of the average suburbanite. I was waiting for tire to be put on my car, so I had my choice of JITB, or this place. Since I have a fondness for Mediterranean food, I thought I'd give them a try. I'm sure glad I did. The fellow behind the counter was friendly, and made me feel like my business was appreciated. The menu is a real treat, featuring many dishes that you don't normally see in Greek/Lebanese restaurants (including 'foul [pronounced 'full'] medmmas', a delightful Egyptian dish of cooked and mashed fava beans served with olive oil, chopped parsley, onion, garlic, and lemon juice). My Gyro was quite good, with delightfully crisp and fresh vegetables, and a sauce that didn't overpower. I thought the meat was a touch dry, though; but to be fair, the one time I tried making gyro meat using the best ingredients I could find, it came out a bit dry, too. Save room for dessert! They have many things you've never heard of, including Burma (also known as 'twisted baklava', or 'sultan's turban'), and they make lemonade and chai tea from scratch. This is chai like you've never had before! So anyway, it's your body. Don't you deserve a real dining experience with fresh, healthy foods, or do just want to sleepwalk through life stuffing your hole with Jumbo Jacks and greasy fries? Your call. read more

Let me start by saying I have eaten falafel and hummus all over Israel, Jordan, and even Egypt. I've had kofte in all those places, plus many in Turkey. I love these foods and seek them out. With the good reviews I thought I'd give this place a try when I went to SeaTac. I was a bit disappointed. The falafels were blagh. I believe they were made from a dry mix, not freshly made. Taste was bland. Texture too dense. Undercooked on the inside. No one would dare serve these in Israel or Jordan. I also had the chicken shawarma. It was good, a little spicy. Real shawarma is sliced off a rotating spit. This was just spiced and fried in a pan. Not bad, but not real shawarma. I will say that their pita bread was fresh and soft, something (amazingly) many Seattle Middle East eateries can't seem to serve. The staff was attentive and polite. Price was OK. I may try some of their other offerings next time I go to the airport and possible adjust my review. read more

I was wildly disappointed with Mawadda. Went in with reasonable expectations based on the reviews. Waited a little too long for someone to take my order, but OK, it's a small business. Ordered a lamb shawarma sandwich to go. Ended up with some very tough beef - a completely different meat than what I ordered - and nothing like any other shawarma sandwich I've ever had. Nothing like tzatzki or anything of note. Bread not toasted, just right out of the bag it would seem. Staff not masked while required to be. I'm going to be generous and say that's two strikes. I should also mention that for the same money at a nearby business, one can get a plate of six tacos for the same $$ amount and that would double or triple what was in this pitiful sandwich. read more

Our first place to eat in Seattle upon arrival yesterday and we will never forget it. Billed as Greek on the door, it is certainly Middle Eastern. The manager had us feel as though we were welcome guests in his home. We had gyros, sambosas (aMAZing!), rice, and the garlic sauce? We didn't know what it was until we asked, but we could not get enough! FANTASTIC! I told them they need to bottle and sell the stuff in stores. We dipped EVERYthing in it! lol The tzatziki sauce was pretty darn good, too. I'm fussy about that because you can tell a lot about the heart of a chef by his tzatziki sauce, in my opinion. Part of a strip mall, this was a real treasure. We hope to come back before heading home again. Amazing, amazing food! Fresh, authentic, and....did I mention amazing? I just found this greek café in the Fred Meyer parking lot (North end) and had a taste for a greek salad. For $6.59 I got the best greek salad I've had in a long time complete with a slice of pita bread. Very good size, nice colorful greens, generous amounts of cucumbers, tomatoes and sliced red onions and a side of dressing. Plus, the man working there was very pleasant. Will be back. read more

We had the chicken shawarma, the ful mudammas (boiled whole fava bean with parsley and lemon) and a couple sambosas (sp?), and were not disappointed. I am including photos of the two entrees. I've ordered Mawadda a handful of times for pickup. The meat has really good flavor, a lot of spices. It's also very juicy. The salad seems generic though - nothing special and same with the pita. The meat and rice though, together, really good. It has lots of flavor and is a low-key good spot next to Fred Meyer. Outside of that, the service is okay. When I went in to order food / pick up food the person went into the back, prepared/got the food and didn't come back until it was done. It wasn't bad service, no one was rude, but there was minimal interaction between the two of us. read more

Had dinner here with a friend and the place was a regular strip mall restaurant with kind of mediocre overpriced food. There were no prices on the menu so it was a guessing game, we asked what prices were and it seems like the girl was making them up as we asked. I ordered the lamb shish kabab but was given chicken, it seemed like they expected me to just take it and I sent it back for the correct entree. After 20min, I finally got my dinner and it didn't really have a lot of spices so it was just didn't have a lot of flavor. My friend's chicken shwarma was the chicken version and just as plain. We spent $48 for two dinners, a strawberry fanta and bottle of water. I did tip even though the service wasn't great, it appeared to be a family owned business, and well I think their kids were running it that day, the host was a teenager on her phone and the server looked just like her but looked like (maybe her sister) in middle school lol. Kind of pricey for a strip mall restaurant so I don't know that I'll be returning. read more

We visited on a Friday night. This place is made for orders to go. We dined in. I would order from here but never plan to eat here in person. Service was non existent and there was a lot of handcart and breaking down boxes in the dinning area. The kofta and baba ganoush were good. The number 2 kofta was large enough for two people. Their menu did not have prices and the prices on the screen at the checkout were about less then what was charged. They did match the prices ordering on line. Don't order the chi tea. read more

This was my first time ordering from Mawadda, and I'm entirely pleased! The restauranteurs were quite busy, and they had forgotten one of my items (always make sure to check ;3) But they went over and saw that it wasn't in the bag, so they made it for me right away. They were very kind and understanding! The food looks delicious; just like all the pictures! Tastes just as expected! I'm from Cleveland, Ohio, and back there, many people eat at a chain restaurant called Aladdin's(also delicious). I'm excited to have found a place here in south seattle with the same cuisine! I have been here numerous times, I like gyros and it's an OK lunch spot. Until today. I went to open the (old style with screw metal cap) ketchup and it literally exploded. On the wall, my shirt, my pants, my jacket - everywhere. I cleaned the coat water towel as best I could. It is clearly stained. I don't now how many years that ketchup sat there for it to do that, but I'm not happy. I told him the jacket would need dry cleaned, he was clearly done with it. Not your typical plaza mall/center food joint. Limited seatings with a great menu, I think you'll find yourself coming here more frequently than you would think. Every day they have about 20 plates of lamb shanks to serve, so if you're around, please try it! Braised until it's falling off the bone, it's just so mouth watering. The sauce however, could use a touchup as it taste a little like just tomato sauce. But that's okay, the tenderness makes up for the lack in that department. Sambosas(Chicken please!) which are out of this world! Like little pockets of delishousness in your mouhh and only $1.50 per! Portions are worth every penny because it comes with flavors! Each main dish comes with a side salad which is refreshing on it's own. Had their kebabs as well as chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich was more like a gyro but it was packed with flavors! I don't care what to call it, just get in my belly. Owner is also one of the sole reason for coming back. He's so outgoing and is friendly. Hella bomb. The service is VERY friendly. The space is cute and clean, but given how delicious the food is, I'd eat here even if it wasn't. The gyros are yummy and not too salty, which is a problem I have found with many other places. They also put cucumbers in them - win!!! What else? The sambosas are amazing. I should have ordered more last time I got a carry-out order because I straight up finished them all before we even made it home. No shame in my game. The spices are definitely there without being overpowering and the dipping sauce you get for them just puts it over the top - incredible. The dough is perfectly warm, flaky, with just the right amount of chewiness. Nomsss. I want more, asap. I freaking love dolmas (stuffed grape leaves). Ahhhh. Just the right amount of tartness. I'm in food heaven just thinking about it. I've found that most places in Seattle that sell gyros do not have dolmas or sambosas, so I'm ecstatic that I can get all of that so close to home! Also, my dad is a vegetarian, but I am a carnivore to the MAX so it was nice that we could come here together and both be really satisfied with our orders. I was really happy to find this place in Burien. It is a good change from the teriyaki, pho, and Mexican that seems to dominate the food landscape of SW King Co. Calling this place Greek would be wrong. This is a wonderful Mediterranean/Persian food. They have a great mix of meat and vegetarian dishes. They do great combos and you are guaranteed to get what you want. The spanakopita is not what you would normally expect. It is a little more like a casserole and it is wonderful. The samosas are very good. I would ask for extra pita, the one you get is not enough. Try the Chai tea. It is house made with a wonderful spice to it. read more

This place recently opened up in the strip mall by Fred Meyer, and I've been meaning to try it for awhile now. For dinner, I got the gyro & rice combo which also came with a salad and pita bread for $9.99. Such a deal! The food is very flavorful, and I loved the shaved feta on the meat. Also, the spiced rice is delicious! If you are looking for tasty Middle Eastern cuisine, Mawadda Cafe is the place to go. It was really empty, though. This place was an awesome find. We were a little early for our flight of SeaTac so we searched for a place to grab a quick bite before we took off. We found this place on Yelp it sounded good, so we decided to check it out. You would never give it a second look in the strip mall and It wasn't very busy but we sat down and decided to get some of the basics; chicken shawarma, a combo plate and some samosas. The owner was AWESOME and super friendly, polite and accommodating. The food was INCREDIBLE and very flavorful- Way exceeded our expectations. I would totally go out of my way to stop by here again. The feeling of the place is that you should eat and go, not much for hanging out. There are newspapers you can read and the service was fast. Everything was mind-bogglingly good. My friend and I shared the "veggie combo" and the sambosa plate (like Indian samosas), so we had a chance to try a bunch of things. Her favorite was the spinach filled filo pastry. I was torn between the stuffed grape leaves and the sambosas. But everything was good! The falafel were fluffy, almost cake-like, with a crisp outer crust. The hummus had a toasted flavor. Both plates came with salads with very fresh greens, peppers, and grated mizithra (or a mizithra-like hard, white cheese, anyway) with the dressing on the side. I am definitely coming back. We were originally going to take some food to go, but when we walked in and saw that it was a nice sit down venue instead of the gyro counter that I had been imagining, we decided to stay. I think we were served by the owner. He was very pleasant. My only warning would maybe be to allow adequate time. It's not a food counter. Our food came to us quickly once we were seated, though when we walked in there was no one to greet us. We were starting to think that we should ding the bell on the counter, but then our host appeared. I really appreciated that he let us order just the two plates without pressuring us to have drinks or acting put out, as can sometimes happen even at nice places. We were well satisfied, though if we were not off to other adventures, we probably would have gotten some of the tasty looking baklava and some chai. Next time! I was excited to get a gyros salad today because I haven't had Greek food in a while and for some reason was craving tatziki. Boy am I sad I chose to go to Burien Mawadda! My first red flag should have been when I walked in and there was hardly anyone in there - only one table of two at 12:30 - when the place should be packed with lunch goers. I ordered my gyros salad with a "side of tatziki" - thinking it would come with a vinaigrette, but I also wanted the tatziki to dip my gyro meat in. The guy was about to charge me, but gave me a sideways glance and asked "how many do you want?" When I told him only one, he decided not to charge extra. My salad was to-go, so when I got back to work I was super disappointed to see a sad looking "salad" if that's what you could call it. The gyro meat was dry and spongey and seemed old. AND the salad came with no dressing! There was only one tiny little tatziki sauce!! I don't know if that's usually all it comes with (if so, that's crazy) or if the guy thought that by me saying I wanted a side of tatziki that I didn't want dressing!? Either way he should have either a) given me dressing or b) told me it only comes with one small sauce, so that I could have asked for two! Not only that, the tatziki sauce was nothing like the creamy, lemony, cucumber-dill sauce I expected, but a watery, curdled mess that tasted a little "off." I ate it because I was starving! And of course, about 30 mins to an hour later, I had a terrible stomach - the salad got me sick! :-( I don't know how this place has so many good reviews. The food is whack! read more
