This place is great! I had my second haircut with Kelsey today and once again I look fabulous. I also had my hair washed by Kylie and she nearly put me to sleep! I've noticed both times now that a lot of other girls in there are getting extensions (that look amazing, btw) and full dye jobs, and everyone seems to be happy and looking great. I'm not a hair girlie but I've had enough basement bleach jobs to know that it's better to pay and leave it to the professionals. Went in to get my roots done and a cut and ended up being told I needed to leave because I was ill. When I arrived I was offered a water and sat in the chair. I was asked what I wanted done. After explaining the stylist cut one side of my bangs and put 2ish foils in my hair at this point I asked to use the restroom because I felt unwell all of a sudden. I was only in there for about 5 minutes. Enough time to allow the unwell feeling to pass. When coming out of the restroom all the hair stylists were gathered at the front desk talking until they saw me and got very quiet. I felt intimidated and that it was very rude. Quite unprofessional if you ask me. At this point my hair stylist came up to me and said she wasn't going to be continuing with my appointment and that I still have to pay for the all services I scheduled for. Not even asking if I was okay or felt well enough to continue. No concern or compassion for how I was feeling. It felt very cold and money hungry. I was fine and able to continue the appointment, but she already made her mind up about me and that she was going to cancel the appointment.She then rinsed my hair out and cut the rest of my bangs to make it even but my hair was still wet when I was directed to the front desk to pay for the services I ordered but, again, did not receive. She then said when I was feeling well I can come back and reschedule another appointment (which would mean paying AGAIN) Leaving with wet hair was humiliating. I have never been treated so poorly. Here's their policy (copied from their website) Cancellations - A minimum of 48 hours is required to reschedule or cancel an appointment. There is a rebooking fee if the cancellation is done within the 48 hour window. Deposits - Some services require a non refundable deposit prior to booking. Pricing - Prices are based on stylists experience and are subject to changes. Damaged or misplaced belongings - We are not responsible for items left behind or for damaged clothing/jewelry due to a salon service. A robe will be provided at your request to protect clothing. Refunds - Due to the nature of the business, we do not offer refunds on services rendered. It wasn't a cancellation. I didn't pay a deposit. What they charged me was not a "change due to the stylist's experience" I'm not asking for a refund on services rendered. The stylist chose to cancel the appointment. The stylist charged me for what I initially scheduled the appointment for and left me with wet hair. To top it off I wasn't feeling well. I then called to express my dissatisfaction with my experience in hopes that it would somehow be made right. I was told that just this once they would offer me an appointment of their choosing and that I could not be late. No grace, just this is what you get. Take it or leave it. I accepted this "oh so gracious offer" simply because I didn't want to just waste 356 dollars. Of course as I was on my way to the appointment I was held because of a car accident. I then called Max and Ro to explain the situation but because they were overbooked there wasn't room for being late. I was FIVE minutes away. Their reply? Okay we will cancel your appointment. I asked if they could get me in at another time. I was told no. That was it. That was my chance. They didn't have to help me. What hurts the most is how dismissive the experience felt. I expected to be treated with care and respect, but instead I walked out feeling unseen and taken advantage of. I hope the salon takes this feedback seriously and remembers that clients deserve to feel heard and appreciated, not dismissed and disrespected. read more

REVISED: After my unfortunate experience (shared below). I was contacted by Alisha, who promptly offered an apology, a refund, as well as complimentary services to return as a customer. I had concerns that I would be met with awkward annoyance if I returned, but instead, sincere understanding and kindness. Alisha stepped in and rectified a poor customer service situation and made it more than right. I respected the way they handled an uncomfortable situation with complete professionalism. I will return because of how Alisha handles business and takes care of her customers. The new stylist they put me with, Kelsey, was wonderful and gave me a great cut. ________________________________________________________________________ I had an appointment with (I won't name the stylist). I arrived exactly 15 minutes late because I wrote the wrong time in my calendar. So totally my own fault there. However, once arriving the receptionist told me that their policy states no shows and late arrivals after 15 minutes will be charged the full amount. Understandable to some degree, but I was there exactly 15 minutes late. This was not my first appointment at M&R, and all other appointments I was on time for (even though they will beg you and send you multiple messages to come at other times and dates like people. don't have jobs). I asked if she could just not style my hair or blow dry it and just do the cut. Without hesitation, "no, she doesn't have time." They proceeded to charge me $105! That is absurd for someone standing there with at least 45 minutes left of a time slot. The stylist didn't even come out of the back to tell me. I felt like I had just been robbed and my finances violated. Had I walked faster from my car I would have been only 14 minutes late and it would not have been within policy. I would not expect being late to not impact my service or to not pay. 15 minutes late is significant and annoying. However $105 for a returning customer who was exactly 15 minutes late on the dot with no service at all is insane. The business practice is poor if they want loyal customers. But this is Salem, there is no competition, so mediocrity can thrive without consequence. read more

I started following the salon when I moved to Salem from California and I loved the vibe and knew I had to check it out when I decided to color my hair again. Then I found Alexa's Instagram and loved her work! After trying some salons in the area I decided to book a session with Alexa. Other salons were average at best. She nailed it! She was so sweet and easy to talk to and she got my hair on the path of where I want it to go (to go blonder). I highly recommend Alexa and this salon and already have a follow up booked with her to go lighter! read more

But when I texted her for my next cut, she waited a week. Then she texted me back that she was "too busy" and gave me another hairdressers number. I just can't give a positive rating. The booking process here is kind of a nightmare. You message via the website, they ask a bunch of questions regarding what you're looking for in a stylist and then have a stylist text you. The stylist then asks you the same questions. It definitely comes off frustrating and has me wishing they used a booking program similar to vagaro. Unfortunately, the hassle wasn't worth it to me after going back and forth via emails and texts. read more

Kendra at Max & Ro Hair Co. is the best hair stylist I have ever had by far! I came to her with fried, breaking, severely damaged bleach blonde hair and she has worked for the last year to make it healthy, soft, and even still managed to give me a beautiful bleach blonde look without all the damage! She knows so much about keeping hair healthy and still manages to give you the look you want. Not to mention she's super sweet and easy to talk to during my visits in her chair! I always look forward to appointments with her because it's always a fun couple hours, and I always leave completely in love and amazed with what she does to my hair :) whether you're blonde or brunette, she will make your hair look so amazing and so healthy!
