I'm writing this review to warn everyone away from this office. My experience was nothing short of traumatic and highlighted a profound lack of basic human empathy. After an accident left me with three missing front teeth, my oral surgeon recommended a crucial step: having my original teeth placed into my Invisalign retainers to maintain my results and, frankly, let me look like I have teeth for the next seven months. In this incredibly vulnerable state, I contacted Dr Haws office, my dentist for the last several years. While trying to set up an appointment with Kelly (receptionist and co-owner), I was chastised about not having reached out to them earlier as Dr. Haws was set to go on vacation the next day. That said, I was told to come into the office immediately and they'd fit me in. Instead of a greeting, the receptionist Kelly immediately demanded, "Who have you been seeing?" - to which I was initially confused/caught off guard at what she was even asking....but then it became apparent it was because I hadn't been in for a cleaning in some time. I admitted that I had gone elsewhere for my last one as their office had cancelled mine last minute and I opted to try somewhere new. This accusatory tone continued, with her declaring I was "no longer under their care." and that the other office had my most recent x-rays. When I tried to explain that actually, my most recent X-rays were from the oral surgeon and showed jaw and socket fractures, the questioning shifted to "who told you to go to such and such oral surgeon?" I was forced to recount the entire harrowing ER situation to her, although it was clear she was completely devoid of compassion, as her response was that normally people don't bounce around like that with dental practices/providers. The interaction ended with her telling me to "call the new place that you got your cleaning at." I walked out shaking and in disbelief. I even felt compelled to go back in and apologize, between sobs, for supposedly "offending" her, despite being the one treated so horribly. The accusatory, frustrated, and unprofessional demeanor she displayed while I was in such a compromised state is inexcusable. This office does not deserve anyone's business. No patient, especially one who has just experienced a traumatic accident, should ever be treated with such a callous disregard. Adding insult to injury, a few days later they called and cancelled my husbands' upcoming cleaning. I'm not sure if it was intentional or due to their poor scheduling, but I'll take it as further proof that the practice is run horribly. If you have the option, do not frequent this dental office. You deserve better than a healthcare provider whose ego comes before a patients' wellbeing. read more

I have a WHINE... in my 32 years of receiving the most EXCELLENT care by Dr. Max Haws and his staff, don't you think a Lompoc office should be in your future? We NEED a great practice here!! Kidding aside, his practice can't be beat. His equipment is state-of-the-art, and he even has a 3D printer to make crowns, saving me a 2nd trip! I love that Dr. Max Haws and his wife and office manager, Kelley, always take the time to be friendly and reminisce for a moment with me. I feel I'm known and cared about, not just a name and set of X-rays in my chart, and that means a lot to a patient. I used to fear the impending pain of the hygienists, but their care, gentleness, and thoroughness have made that procedure much more pleasant. 100% thankful I Found the office of Dr. Haws! According to my friends I had the best ever experience getting a root canal. I got to watch tv and sit nice and comfy. Dr. Haws explained everything he did along the way which helped me relax a lot knowing what was going on. I had more soreness than pain the next 2 days after or so, but nothing Aleve couldn't help with. I went to work just fine the next day. The entire staff is helpful, kind and knowledgeable! Best teeth cleaning ever. No BS upselling. Hygienist did a great job and was very knowledgeable and helpful with info. on future care of teeth and gums. I found Max Haws DDS on my in network group of providers. After getting about four different names, I went on Yelp and looked up reviews. Without a doubt Max Haws DDS stood out beyond the others. And I was not disappointed when I had my appointment about 2 weeks later. The receptionist who answered the phone was so sweet and genuine sounding. She verified my insurance and that it would be covered and then set up an appointment within a couple of weeks. Such I was surprised about because a lot of places book so far out! I had such a great experience with my hygienist, Maris, and small world but we actually are both from the same area where we grew up out of state! Pretty fun being able to connect to someone and see some else's experiences on what it was like there and how we got to Santa Barbara now. Honestly even the social communication is great in general because of COVID not allowing this face to face interaction as much. After some x-rays and a cleaning Dr. Haws came in and checked everything out. He notified me of some borderline cavities that we need to watch closely for the next 6 months. I really appreciate his honesty for where in the stage process the borderline cavities are and the price differential if we were to do some now versus later on. My teenage boys had very thorough cleanings and then Dr Haws came in and spent time checking their teeth over and showing them how to properly care for their teeth. I chipped my front tooth on Halloween (don't ask). After spending the weekend looking like a hillbilly I'm immediately on the phone come Monday 8 am. She (lovely receptionist whose name escapes me right now) immediately said "don't worry dear, we're getting you in". Whew. They got me in at 10 am and not only fixed the chip, but Dr Haws also evened out the length of both front teeth (one has been slightly shorter since I last chipped it 10 years ago). My kids love going to the dentist. The staff here is always super friendly and helpful.

The receptionist's were nice and accommodating. I had a terrific tooth ache and after an initial evaluation it was determined I needed a cap. The cap didn't work the first time. I had to go back to reset the cap and it didn't work the second time. I then got this enormous bill, I asked them if they submitted the bill to my insurance. They said they did and that was all they would pay. I called the insurance co and they said they told the office that there were areas they did not cover and would not cover for another 6 month's. The staff did not relay that information to me. They went ahead and scheduled the treatments and expected me to pay for them. The dentist (Max Haws) was a poor dentist and the office staff was deceiving and underhanded. It was a terrible experience. read more

Dr. Haws and his staff are great! The work I have gotten done is quality and everyone there is friendly and helpful. Dr. Haws even filed and buffed down a small chip in my front tooth for free and evened out the other front tooth to match. I am not a fan of having to go to the dentist. Since dentistry is necessary for a healthy mouth, teeth and gums, going to the dentist is not optional for me. If it is necessary for you to go to a dentist, you won't find a better dentist than Max Haws. The dental assistants, hygienists and front office staff are also amazing. It feels like family when I am at the office. I will continue going to visit Dr. Haws for all of my dental needs. P.S. Dr. Haws purchased a 3D Printer which means getting a crown only requires one visit. There is no temporary that you have to live with and return 3 weeks later! You get a perfectly fitted crown and leave the office after one hour of the crown being printed!!! read more

Dr. Haws is a great dentist, but, his staff is so CRAZY!! Carla is the only nice together person in the office so, if you have to deal with anyone try to deal with her. Some people should never be in customer service. Run if anyone with the letter K. as their first initial pretends to help you because she will hang up on you if she doesnt like what she is hearing or if things don't go her way or if your not lucky enough for her to hang up on you then you will be verbally abused until you are forced to do it only her way. :(. I have been going to Dr. Haws since I finished graduate school and started working (and hence can afford taking care of my teeth). My teeth were a painful mess! Dr. Haws helped me fix multiple cavities, put in a bridge and some cosmetic fixes over a few years, quite strategically so that I wouldn't max out my insurance coverage in any given year. Now my teeth both are healthy and look good. I wish I had them fixed ten years ago. But better late than never, right? The staff are very nice and helpful as well, from dental hygienists to nurses, receptionists and accountants. My husband goes to Dr. Haws as well. But his teeth have always been healthy, so not quite a comeback story as mine. LOL read more

Absolutely love Dr. Haws! He's a fantastic dentist who is patient and does excellent work. Never had a problem the 15+ years I've been going to him. Easy to talk to and makes his patients totally comfortable during long procedures. His accounting office/staff however has been a nightmare in the last year. They say you owe more than twice the amount of a procedure WITH insurance and make you pay upfont before they do any work then skirt around a refund when the real amount comes through. We ended up paying almost $500 for what should have been $200 and we're still waiting for "the check in the mail" read more

After having a terrible experience at a different dentist in town I had a hard time choosing a new dentist. Dr. Haws was in my network and had some good reviews, so I took a chance and I could not be happier that I did. Everybody in the office from Karen and Carla at the front desk to my hygienist Alma was kind, professional and friendly. I never once felt like anybody was trying to sell me anything (one of the main issues I had with my previous dentist) and Dr. Haws assured me that I would see HIM every time I was in the office, not some random other doctor. Even though I knew his appointments were running just slightly behind that day (NOT a big deal for me, especially since they let me know right away) he didn't seem rushed at all, and took the time not to just explain to me the dental work I need but to chat with me and get to know me on a personal level. This meant a LOT to me. I definitely recommend Dr. Haws to anybody who is looking for professional, personal dental care. Great job, team! read more
