Just had Max here and got the job done. He replaced our garbage disposal and cleared the line. He came only half an hour after I called him, having waited for another plumber, Frank T. Lyons, for three day. Lyons gave me a sob story about his phone not working. Lyons spazzed out after I told him I hired Max, yelling for 20 mins at me regarding the grade I gave him 25 years ago when he was my student, a junior, at Ventura High School. Lyons crowed that he had been a Gate kid, was super intelligent, that he even had a fan club but that he only got a C from me. Max Reed, on the other hand, is confident, knows his stuff and is not a narcissistic child. Max is a professional man, a man...not a kid. But, Lyons is an angry little boy, holding a grudge for 25 years. Hire Max, not Lyons. Lyons acts like a school yard bully and displays the unprofessional behavior of a kid who is still butt-hurt and still needs a "fan club." MAX TO THE RESCUE...again! This time, me trying to do the repair on my water heater this morning and the corroded pipe and valve busted off. UH -OH! Had to get to work, needed it done this morning or the family would be without water for a day or two. First call was to Max who put me at ease right away, came over and he and his guy did the job lickity split at a very fair price. Did I heed his warnings years ago about my pipes needing to be replaced, no. But he still shows up in a pinch to save the day when there's an issue. No judgement, always good company, throws in a little sage wisdom, a classic story or two, and is a serious pro. Our line was getting a little choked up with tree roots and the guy I usually called had retired so I called Max Reed Plumbing and was able to make an appointment for the next day. Max arrived at the expected time and was pretty quickly able to clear our lines. He also gave me some information on things I should think about for longer term solutions and to preserve the pipes I have rather than have to worry about replacing things that go into the slab under our house. Max is polite and professional, brings the right tools and does good work. Also I like giving my business to local business owners and not calling someone up all the way from Ventura or Oxnard. I use yelp to find good services. Have not left a review but thought it was important to leave my experience with a plumber I used. I had a tankless water heater that needed replacing. I called Max to see if he was available to do the work. He was. I did the leg work to drive down to Vic's and Ferguson to purchase the new water heater and new valves and filter. Met Max back at the house. He had a helper with him, ( he was complaining about his back) so I thought ok, 2 guys will knock this out quick. He worked for a few hours and then called me and said he had to run to another job but would be back. He said the water is on if we needed it. He called me at 4:30 and said he was exhausted, could not come back. I told him the water in fact was off at the house, so he did come back and fixed that. He came back the next day to finish the job. He worked so very slow. I think he just wanted an easy job to last all day. He just had to take the old tankless off the wall and put up the new one. All the lines and connections were right there. Just replace the hoses and make new connections. He charged me for 2 guys @ 9 hours each. That is 18 hours of labor to replace the water heater. I think that is so unfair. He also charged me for parts without listing the parts he used. Just made up an amount of $495 for parts I know he did not use. Bottom line, he was very slow and brought another guy so he could charge 2 men even on a job that could be done with one guy. PS, don't let him park his truck on your driveway if you don't want oil leaking on it. read more

I got more than I bargained for when I hired Max Reed Plumbing to come root my pipes. Besides the quick response, Max himself showed up, sent the rooter down the hole and cleared the blockage pronto! As he turned to leave, he paused and turned around and said, "Could I give you some advice?" I said, hesistating, "sure." I called Max Reed because I wanted someone local. I was having a water heater problem and Max told me he was booked up for a week. He wanted to hear in detail what was wrong and then offered advice on things I could try to fix it myself and save his charges. I told him I would wait until he could make it and that I would prefer to pay him than mess with it myself. He called back a few minutes later and said he would come right away. He was here in about 10 minutes, researched and diagnosed the problem, and had it all fixed and working perfectly in about 45 minutes. And, he had all the parts he needed with him. Max is the BEST and his guys are too. I had been talking with him for months, years about the impending doom awaiting us when our 50+ year old cast-iron drain line might finally give out (under the slab, running from laundry/kitchen to bathrooms and out to sewer) and what a dreadful job that was for those who have to face it (like everyone in our neighborhood, sooner or later). I knew I needed to hire him, but kept putting it off....until one day we had 3 inches of black sewage standing in the bathtub. That's when I called Max and pulled the trigger to get this monster job done. While it was necessary for a total demo of our main/hall bathroom (where the tub was), Max and his guys went to extraordinary lengths to avoid having to completely demo our other (master) bath also. This meant they had to excavate (by hand) a hole in the main bathroom floor nearly 5 feet deep, and they also dug out under the adjacent bathroom to have access to all the connections between the old drain line, the bathrooms and the new sewer line (that we had replaced a few years ago). They also used the "trenchless" method, and in so doing avoided having to demolish all of our patio as well. As Diane (who is my neighbor) mentioned in another post, Max's right-hand, Pancho, did all this interior dirty work, and he was neat as could be. He dug that hole by hand and carried it out of our house one wheel barrow at a time, through the living and dining rooms, on runner rugs that he laid out and picked up every day. For as horribly dirty as this project was, the interior chaos, as well as that outside, was kept to a minimum, thanks to Pancho. AND he was always cheerful and smiling and just a wonderful person to have around. This project lasted a long time, for a lot of reasons, and I just really enjoyed having Max and his guys around. They felt like family, were super easy going, and always willing to stretch to solve a problem, or to respond to anything new that came up. Max brought his own equipment to help set us up with an outdoor shower while we had none indoors.
